#My thoughts on the rank update

For anybody that doesn't want to read a long text, the tl:dr of this post is F for all FFA players.

I understand why they convert the current leaderboard to FFA instead of 1v1, because the majority of players obtained their current skill points in FFA. It's not clear to me if your skill points will be moved to FFA or just your current class. This updated reddit post https://www.reddit.com/r/Risk/comments/tiz7a4/next_round_of_changes_narrowing_down/ says that each season there will be a soft reset, but the wording that your current skill points will be converted make it sound as if that only applies to future seasons.

Most things that cause problems in the current system are not addressed. In their post from march they already had some solutions. Here is the link to look it up again.https://www.reddit.com/r/Risk/comments/t430wd/ranking_system_changes_official/
I know that there was a update to that one that did not include the automatch, but what I would like to focus on is the "Simplified ELO" Point System, that will not be part of this update. And also the Escalating punishment for quitters, seems to be missing.

The problems with ffa will not change at all. You are still punished for playing on higher ranks. Speaking of seasons we don't even know how long they are. Will it be a weekly/daily/monthly/annual thing.

The implementation of neutral territory's will not fix botting out. It would be proper etiquette to first kill bots in ranked and then players, but a bot that doesn't bother me is not worth my troops before I kill all human players. So their placement will still be higher than it should be. I see no mention in the Q&A if the bot position will still matter like right now or if those players count as eliminated the moment they dc.

Sorry about this long rant, I changed some of it due to a long talk in general, but what do you guys think.

I forgot to mention that they did not chose the soft reset option and instead convert the current broken system into the new one.

1v1 leaderboard will be separated fron ffa, so all the ones who love 1v1 will be able to play it and the others who lobe ffa will be able to get to the top. Where did you see no soft reset? Its coming, same for quitter punishment

He didn't say the rank decay is only for people who didn't play, which makes it seem like the decay is for everyone

The new article references that:
• active players are dropped to the base of the rank they are in (so GM to base GM, Intermediate to base Intermediate etc.)
• inactive players (so if you don't play within the season for FFA / 1v1) will drop 1 rank below their current rank (GM to M, Intermediate to Beginner etc.)

I'm not 100% sure on whether bot placement is updated with introduction of neutral territories, but we'd be aiming for when a player surrenders for them to be placed in the last not claimed position - and if a player goes afk/disconnects - the time they disconnect will be used to do the same - unless they rejoin within the (reasonable) timeframe

The benefit of neutral territories is it should be much better for taking than a bot that is just gaining troops etc. as well - so shouldn't be any issues with eliminating.

This is step one - separating FFA & 1v1 - anything after relating to ranked would likely be on adjusting to more suiting point system(s) for each of these.

On seasons, they are usually 8-12 weeks - it means we can keep our game data in healthy chunks and don't need to pull up all data as frequently.

Just answering what I can there from the post (at super late, so apologies for any typos 😄)

The new leaderboard (1v1) - everyone would be novice as it doesn't have any stats currently - but that should fairly quickly change in first season - and the addition of it being a separate rank encourages players to participate in 1v1 alongside FFA so they can say they're a GM on both 🥳

I am not a fan of the decision to drop active players down to the bottom of the tier. Now the leaderboard will be dominated by people who spend the most time playing. Skill will still be a major factor but it will be eclipsed by time played. If anyone agrees with me, can you make it a suggestion on risk ideas for people to vote on?

So there was no option for decay for innactive players only?

All games that have seasons that I know of do resets. It helps to motivate players to compete.

Depends.

On StarCraft 2, after a season ends, you just need to complete one battle and you'll get your MMR (Matchmaking rank) exactly where you left it last season +/- some pts for the battle you just did. And you go in the league corresponding to your MMR.

The only decay is if you don't play at all for the season (I think it's a really hard decay that just reset you for the next season (but when reset, you don't start at the bottom, but need to do 5 march so the game can guess your MMR skills and give you a fitting MMR)

So what Koreef ask exist also in other game, like SC2 where the decay is only for inactive.
