This has happened to me several times and I've seen it happen to others many times. There are times I'll win my first game of the day, and lose skill points. Clearly this isn't caused by a loss only removing skill points because my previous loss game would've had to have lasted 12+ hours and ended RIGHT as I was in a game. I've lost upwards of 10k skillpoints this way and it is beyond frustrating, winning is fun in it's own right, but when you're trying to climb to GM in a game where luck is a very large part of it, I shouldn't also be hoping that I get lucky with the ranking system itself not kicking me in the ass, sorry for my language but I'm getting fed up with losing skillpoints at no fault of my own. I have vented about ranked being a flawed system before, sometimes because I'm salty and probably wrong, other times when I'm salty but I'm 100% without a doubt correct, and this is one of those times I'm sure.
#Yet Another Ranked Problem

Your rank can go down even when you are not playing, as people below you may win and pass you up. That said, I believe that the loss penalty is far too severe for a game with several luck elements. As an example, today I beat an expert and saw my rating increase by two. I lost to an expert and my rating dropped by 23. The severe loss penalty encourages smurf accounts (where high skilled players compete using alternate accounts – often at a lower class). I have started keeping track of suspect accounts/players. In my last 30 games, I flagged a third of my opponents as likely smurfs. Another six were advanced players using one of the free avatars (likely in an effort to entice new players). I think if the loss penalty were eliminated/less severe, users would be much more likely to play similarly skilled opponents using their primary account.
I know that people can pass you up, but 8k in the span of 20 minutes at master league? I don't think that was the reason
I’d be interested to see what is the explanation. If it’s just some sort of server lag/error, it’s surprising we only see players report it reducing their rank, but almost never reports of it increasing their rank falsely
