If SMG decided to allow one, and we gave it half of 1v1’s calendar slots, would a 2v2 Tournament here be popular? And are there any particular rules, maps or prizes you’d like to see in the event?

No 1v1 is better

Fair, and it’s definitely easier to run 1v1, since we already have the rules and spreadsheets. Just wondering whether we’re maximizing signups, or if introducing something new could help to sell more free tickets

Yes 2v2

Is there any audience for 2v2v2 events?

I would love a 2v2 that doesn't require so many games at once. Unfortunately I struggled with the 5 a side because it was tough to practice and then schedule that many maps at once.

2v2 would be a mess in the official server. We have a hard time as is trying to schedule small 2v2's imagine 500? Goodness such madness

Possible but don't think it'd be one SMG would want to go for until we have casual games available (imagine how many newer players will see "2v2 Tourney" and decide to practice in-game 💀)

unranked is still subject to fair play (not playing with anyone you know in global domination)

Love the idea! But scheduling might turn out to be a nightmare… might be an idea to form teams within continents: Europe, usa + canada, Africa,… for easier scheduling? They each continent has its own tournament. kinda like classic map 😅 which would be a cool reference I think…

those tourney winners from each continent could then do a battle of continents for the wold champ title as it would be easier to schedule across the world with limited teams

Yes I would love one that doesn't require 5 games per week. 2v2 is fun but I can't fit the 5asides into my schedule!

If SMG ever gives permission to one, making it time-manageable, with fast matches would be essential.

Also giving some availability slack by having 3-4 members per team but 2 playing each week would be ideal.

E.g. round 1 FFA invites 6 players, but often 4 turn up, so the games work anyway. Could follow a similar model to that for 2v2.

Would also need to build in some leeway for no-shows and waitlist players to fill in for missing players, so games could go ahead

I think it would be good to have 3 members with a slight rotation bonus

Yeah I think 4 player teams would be the best for scheduling.

I think its a great idea. Needs to be more defined to become a Risk Discord Tournament. Scheduling for instance will be the hardest. '

I'm 100% on board with 2v2 tournaments

#

I think they would be a very good addition to the discord. It would almost be a more casual & community oriented tournament where it's less about every man (or woman) for themselves and more about just having fun and seeing how the best teams fair.

#

Plus I know if I was brand new to the community signing up with some buddies of mine for the first time would be really interesting. If let's say a friendgroup had been playing risk for awhile and now get's to see how they perform as a team in an event

#

5aS already somewhat has this but it's also not official and requires you to ask around (and know that there's something to be asking for) just to get a link to the discord for it

A 2v2 tourney would be interesting

Sure, formed teams?

Predetermined I would assume yea

#

You enter with a team & team name

#

And what your team's availability is

#

Maybe we'd need different "region divisions" so that teams can be more easily paired against each other

Sounds like we won’t get permission this season for a 2v2 tourney, because SMG don’t want players practicing 2v2 in unranked global.

If/when they replace unranked with a casual mode that allows play friends games to be shared publicly, the idea of a 2v2 tourney could be re-opened to discuss permission.

Until then, we can put organizing one on the backburner, but gradually gather ideas for the future

2v2 is good to do here as tourney in the risk server. People can practise with each other with making play with friends lobby's like what a lot of is going on already with FFA and 1v1 practise games in the looking for a game section. For making 2v2 teams are a couple of options we can do. 1. Choose self your partner, 2. Randomized teams from people that have signed up for it, 3. Having teams of 2 or 3 players, with 3 players you have more flexibility to organize games with.
