Need help from a mod to give a time out to someone on chat

This guy called WatchingPaintdry is having really toxic behaviour on chat he bullies new players, spreads misinformation when someone asks a question, is rude to basically 90% of people and is always on chat.. hes been giving headaches and annoying a lot of old players and a lot of them can testify

Hes also been constantly talking about fornication and adultery and children gettin r and gross stuff like that....

I have never done this but this is disgusting and not pleasant to look at all day long if a mod can look into thai caht behaviour and take soem action or give him a time out will really appreciate it! @fiery drum @fast hill

And hard to chat about anything without him getting in the way.
He also did a three-day offensive role play as a Native American. Still pulls that one out occasionally.

that can be weaponised by bad faith actors. we've already proposed a system with reporting and blocking as two separate things instead, as the best/fairest way to handle things

we just have to hope that it, or something like it, can be implemented.

I feel sometimes he creates other acc to post bad stuff then defends it with his main acc 😂 coz the single thing he catches on that was said was from freshly created accounts but i got no proof 😂😂

I've been spending less time in chat (and therefore less time helping other players) because he's there all the time. And I've seen at least one other high level player say they stopped using chat because of this person.

Or make some good active trusted people like Velo, Booger X Sson etc chat mods that can mute ppl...this feature was there in Mutiny pirate survival so they might have that code base for that chat 😂 i dont play that anymore but last i checked i still had those powers there and was still a chat mod

I’m cool with Velo being a mod in game chat, but we’d need to ask bro first and see if bro is down for it. Not sure about the others, definitely not Booger 😂.
If the devs stop by to ask about chat improvements or new features, we can pass along your suggestions then.

Yeah definitely not booger. He's someone that a few of us would mute if we had the option.
I don't want the job of chat mod either, though. And I don't know that it's the best option because some things are subjective. For example, I would mute anyone who talks about religion or politics in chat, but that's not against TOS so what could a mod do about it?

Haha i mentioned those names as those are some of the few ones very active in chat and all of those help new players quite a bit

Or the mods here on dc who play the game can have that power too as long as theres no abuse of power im sure they wont misuse

if a specific guideline could be worked out for what type of behaviours specifically aren't allowed, and that can be accessed in chat (so we can say everyone read this, behave OR ELSE), i would be happy to enforce it.

I would want political and religious discussions to be heavily discouraged tho.

mute players option will be good , if you don't want to see someones chat just mute him and then you will not see his messages . It's simple

it needs to be a total block i think - you don't see them and they don't see you. this would be optimal for cutting off stalkers and weirdos.

However it probably needs to be done via account + IP address so anyone offensive can't just create a new chat account to watch people with.

Total block or maybe block for 24-48 hours muting that player chat .

Total block forever between individual players. If you are well sick of seeing someone to the point you want a block button, you don't want to have to keep seeing them every day or two and redoing it.

Whereas a mod could do a temporary "think about what you've done and don't do it again" mute, or a "this is a spammer who just puts 10 screens of obscenity into chat, they should be permanently silenced" mute

One of the challenges we will face in chat is that some people (some Americans) think their "right to free speech" means that they can say anything, anywhere they want, even on private servers owned by companies in countries not in the USA. they don't seem to realise that it specifically prohibits the US Govt from infringing on their right to say whatever. It doesn't mean a game company in Cyprus can't tell them to not talk about (religion/politics/etc) on that company's server

For this reason I still think the "everyone gets a 2-way block button and can report bad behaviour separate to that block button if needed" approach would be a winner.

Then it's still the faceless monolith "Support" making mute/ban decisions, not us mods personally.

Mute button is pointless if there is no moderation.

Since one can simply mute troll(s), but this doesn’t really solve the problem as the they can just continue their behavior with someone else. Im talking about newer players, that aren’t used to the interface yet. Ofcourse, there can be button visible from space, but you can still have users that will not see it.

You would need a fleet of chat moderators unfortunately. Ideally you should have several rooms for people to have off topic discussion. I don't know that it would be possible to prevent discussion about religion or politics or any other hot button topic.

But people can get bent out of shape over anything. The number of people who go off on another because they speak another language in the "English" channel who are unaware or don't care that there are very very few language channels available.

You would need many more moderators than just velo.

Currently its just way too easy for someone to take over chat and be annoying and obnoxious. Too easy for people to generate throwaway accounts and come back and keep spamming. Too long of a delay to be able to mute them.

The censor is a joke and way too easy to falsely trigger and even easier to circumvent.

And then you have our forementioned friend who knows exactly how far to push the envelope. They aren't soliciting minors for csam but they are constantly talking about people that do. Then picking random usually newer people and accusing then of csam. Making up all sorts of claims they saw the person do. They are always careful not to say mutable things themselves

If they just come in be annoying then you never see them again no one would care. But this person is just constantly in the chat for hours at a time. They insert comments about their favorite subject of child predators in roblox, acusing some poor noob of being a child predator, or just making random remarks that have no bearing on anything.

Then they will at most probably get a 2 week mute and be back at it again. In the meanwhile they are free to be annoying all weekend. Its really frustrating.

Like what can you report? He likes to talk about how theres child predators on roblox. He doesn't engage in that sort of behavior. He just goes on endlessly about it or accuses new players of it and pretends to have proof. And he does it all the time. For literal hours. Every. Single. Day. He has single handedly made the chat unwelcoming and toxic. He makes it impossible to ignore him and his obcession.

But he's just obnoxiously and persistently annoying on the subject. Im just not sure whatever inadequate system is currently being used will give him a mute.

That's a bad idea as Mr.Marshals has indicted. To give any one person (reputable or not) the ability to silence any they feel are being " offensive" is definitely not the answer. Even Velo or my buddy SSoN can have a bad day and decide they don't wanna hear this person today because they simply disagree on X subject. I'm definitely not condoning the behavior of this very loud person in chat, but power to any single personality is not the way to go. Even the vote kick has been abused alot in other games I've played. Mute button sounds simple but most effective imo. Why? Because even new players will eventually be hunting for that button too and before long, they'll be talking to themselves with no audience.

The mute button would be for just the player clicking it. As in, I click mute on you and until I unclick it, I don't see what you're saying in chat. There doesn't have to be a week or day timer. If we decide we're ready to listen, we can feel free to click whenever we want. It wouldn't change conversation dynamics for anyone else unless they too click mute on that person. This i have seen to be very effective in mmo games.

in my experience it's just better if they don't see you at all or know when you're online. if you're going with a one size fits all solution, you want it to work for everything, whether that's just someone who annoys you because they called you a butthead once, or if they like to talk crap behind your back based on what you've said so everyone else but you sees it, or if they're an actual stalker and they're six sandwiches short of a picnic.
A two-way block works for all of those situations.

If they can't see you at all they're more likely to calm down and let things go. For example there's a player in chat who loves to make snide remarks about me helping people, me playing the game, me existing in general. I mostly ignore her, occasionally I'll tell her to leave me alone on the rare occasions she tries to talk to me, but I think it would be ideal if we never saw each other again. 😂

He's back after a two week mute. He clearly hasn't learned his lesson and is full of threats to get back at everyone that reported him he claims he is "recording" chat in order to collect information to report on others. He proved this by mentioning details from chats over the weekend when he would likely have still been muted.

Im going to create a collage of screenshots I have from last night with all his threats to send to support.

I don't like that people I consider friends have decided not to use the chat because of this person.

Once I put in a ticket I'll come back with the number. Maybe others can do the same.
