#Walrus meat 🄩

I’m opening this thread simply to gather opinions about walrus meat and see how people feel about it right now.

When killing a walrus, you get tough meat (T1), which is currently the lowest-value meat in the game, while still consuming materials and resources. With the current state of inventory space and the food economy, I’m curious how others see it.

I’m mainly interested in:

  • Whether you’re fine with walruses dropping T1 meat as they do now
  • If it would make more sense to drop higher-tier meat or larger quantities
  • Whether walruses feel worth farming compared to other animals

This isn’t a suggestion or a request — just collecting player opinions.
Curious to hear your thoughts šŸ‘€šŸ¾

t4 or t6 meat would make sense even in less quantity

Breeding walruses, which means creating a huge pond in the pasture, wow, that sounds great.

either if it drops maybe t4 meats which is useful for pet crackers, or if the t1 meats were able to stack to 100 instead of 20.

I never understud that walrus, why they make it like that. If u take that meat u cant take nothing else.
Make it drop like 20-30 red meat file it so much better than hundreads t1 meet.
Who ever made it drop that much uselles meet dont understand the game. If u take it u must leave location.
Never understod why they made it like that.
Waste of time and dura killing it.
U can get him stuck somwhere, bug usual otside spon mob will apier if u dont kill fast, but no point killing it. Caribo will give u more worth meat for far less storage.
So its animal wih no purpse.
But if thay make it drop like 30 red file meet, and pigs give u 4-6 thats close to 40 red meat for crackers, tham he woud become usefull source for files for crackers.

#

If Bison gives red file, why walrus those not???
It makes no sense.
I was very suprised,
disapointed,first time I killed it.

Walrus tusks are a great idea!

#

At least that would give a purpose to hunting them!

Not only the walrus, but all animals should drop higher-level meat in T5+ grade areas. It makes no sense to kill a T7 bear and get 4 T1 meat drops.

Yeah most deffinetly. Make t5+ animals drop one or none,t4 meat, but if thay do it is more usefull they drop 1 t4 meat, than any t1 meat.
Doesnt meather is it t5,t6,t7 animals. T7 players wont go to t5 areas just for that.
At least make it for alphas, pumas, and bears.

Not satisfied at all. It does drop a huge amount of t1 meat, but is of little to no value. I think its between 400-500 pieces. And that is hardly enough to even heal back injured pet. No point in wasting weapon dura for killing the animal.

If it had higher tier meat - why not t6 if its t6 animal - that would be better.

Amount doesn’t need to be that of t1, but it would be normal to give huge amount, since walrus is only found in Glacier lake(if lucky) and killing it is not 100% certain, since he is ā€œbuiltā€ to run away.

I don't understand why devs added walrus into the game. What was the point? Except for the events where you had to hunt a couple of them, they're completely useless.

How was the design meeting?

"Hey guys, let's program walruses into the game."

"Yeah, that would be awesome."

"And when you kill them, they drop a ton of meat."

"Yeah, nice."

"So much meat that players have to throw everything else away to collect it, and so useless that it's pointless to even try."

"Yeah, players will definitely love that."

I never kill a walrus unless I absolutely have to for a task. Waste of dura to hit it a bunch of times.

Then you get a backpack full of meat that won't even fill the feeder. So most of the time I take whatever stacks I have space for in my pack after clearing the map. Then feed the rest to the pet and its not enough to even heal it usually plus it takes like 10 mins to raise the HP.

If its a t6 animal it should drop t6 hides and t6 meat.

Personally id rather have a walrus pen at home that can drop the meat haha. Or pick up the whole walrus and carry it home to put in the meat smoking shed that velo wants.

#

I mean... you can put that whole winter bed in your pack. And the holiday tree. We can suspend the laws of physics and carry the entire walrus carcass home in one slot.

i want a freezer/meat locker not a smoker šŸ˜‚ I was thinking an underground cold house for t6 and up that runs on electricity (we only interact with the 1 square "door" hatch in the floor to get to what it stores, not something that we actually go into)

but i want it to drop t4 meat, as that's required for a lot of recipes T4 and up for both humans and pets. I can get plenty of t6 meat from the million caribou running around in the north.

I see and understand the point, i only had satiety in mind (22 vs 32).

Regarding T4 or 6 meat, i think that devs consider fillets are well balanced/distributed in many areas, being find in t3 areas (even lower tiers have buffalos if one is lucky enough to catch them), then t4 locations offer boars/buffalos and peccary in t7. On top of what cowshed produces.

In the end, I don’t really care with which meat devs decide to replace as long as they do. (Would be natural to revise all other meats from hunted animals)

Worst that can happen is that nothing will change.

peccary have t1 + t7 meat, no fillets from them. Only the t4 boars will have them, out of pig family.

I would be happy with either the amounts of fillets we get increasing, or the number we need for recipes reducing, or a combination thereof. šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

I think for straight up pet feeding/satiety, the addition of fish will start to make up a lot more of their diet since we're trying to get that elusive buffalo fish.
