I still don't have the south open yet, but I can start building the wagon, some guys been telling me it's just useless and takes up more energy, others tell me it's very useful, should I bother building it?

It’s useful when the south is open, I leave it at the dock and when grinding for rss I dump it off there when running between areas.

it can be useful but it takes A LOT to make (20 horseshoes, 5 saddles, 5 bridles, 5 stirrups, plus wheels and axles, plus regular resources), and then you have to upgrade it a bunch to make it worthwhile. level 1 wagon only has 5 slots, level 2 has 10, etc. making it won't be fast.

it's worth it for big gathering runs, can leave it at a place by the location(s) you're farming resources and go back and forth filling it up

you have to park it in area and to reset area you have to go somewhere else

It’s not useful for big runs unless you want to use more energy, the wagon does not have an eject button that launches sht to your ranch… 2 locations in game by parking wagon you would use same energy that’s bridge at south and pass at north, parking wagon anywhere else you will use more energy… and you will use a lot more energy traveling with the wagon
Let’s say your farming chromite and have wagon parked at interfluve, you fill your bags then run to wagon unload, go back fill bags again, now you have to run to ranch, then you have to run back to wagon to get the stuff… that’s more energy then just filling bags going home and doing again for same amount of resource
