I only read this because of reading classes but Red April is one the most engaging and dismal stories ive ever experienced. Its a direct critic to the really shitty times Peru was engulfed in the 80s that uses it as a perfect setting for a detective story of its own. Lots of horror, violence, suspense and more importantly, hopelessness. The peruvian experience in a nutshell

shoutout to the protagonist being an uncapable every day man that starts loosing his sanity the more he gets involved in the story

the Scythe series. it’s about a utopia where people are immortal but some people are appointed as “scythes” and they go around telling people they were chosen to die that day.

The Martian and World War Z are good fluff books. Not too much substance (especially in WWZ) but good reads. My girlfriend had me read The Book Thief and Jane Eyre and they’re quickly becoming some of my favorite books too

And Lemony Snicket’s works; they’re meant for children but they hold up well imo

I don't really read anymore but I loved The Call of the Wild by Jack London. I've reread it many times
