I don't think popcorn is healthy nor nutritious, in fact, from what I've heard, corn in general (although I love whole kernel) isn't a "normal" kind of human food.
Corn seeds deep fried in oil, and then buttered/caramelized and/or sprinkled with salt or sugar just doesn't scream healthy to me.

Just put a small rack of ribs in the slow cooker with about 20-24 ounces of Dr. Pepper (yes-- the soft drink) Light coating of olive oil then a good heavy dry rub on the ribs, then placed gently in the liquid to not knock off a lot of the rub. Then in 6 hours when it's done cooking, it goes to a pan, gets coated with BBQ sauce & then goes under the broiler for a few minutes to cook the BBQ sauce into the meat & caramelize the BBQ sauce so it's infused into the meat just like the spices & leaves that nice sticky sauce all over the ribs.
The natural flavorings & sugars of the Dr. Pepper will infuse into the meat as it cooks & with the dry rub spices & BBQ sauce will give the ribs a very good flavor.
In a few days I will try to cook beef brisket for the first time ever-- it will take about 10-12 hours to cook it so it is tender. Cook it too fast or use too hot of an oven & eating brisket will feel like you just cooked your leather shoe & trying to eat it. It has to be cooked slowly & at a low temperature for a long time (preferred way is to cook it in a smoker-- but I don't have one of those..... yet)
@kindred canopy popcorn isn't an unhealthy snack though. It is one of the best snacks to reach for instead of cookies, candy or chips. Plain popcorn I mean-- once you add a ton of butter & salt, popcorn loses a lot of it's healthy qualities. Pop it in an air popper-- no oil, so no saturated fats are added. If you can eat it plain, then you will get a snack that has 93 calories, 3.5g fiber and only 1 gram of fat.
That's not to mention the antioxidants, vitamins & minerals that come with popcorn & it helps lower cholesterol & stabilize blood sugar.
@gaunt bough Well, you're the master chef. But yeah, I don't know many people that will eat 100% plain popcorn (without anything extra added)...it'd take the joy out of eating popcorn. Either way, I want some of that tender brisket when it's done! π

With my weight issues right now, maybe I should go back to eating popcorn again.... and nothing BUT popcorn.
Honestly, I also stopped eating microwavable popcorn at home...that stuff can be very salty. So as of now, I only eat popcorn when I go to the theater on occasion. The kernels getting stuck between the teeth is annoying indeed.

What's bad is I have an air fryer & I think I've used it twice since we got it. The basket is a pain to clean & the fins on it are a bit sharp- easy to cut yourself while cleaning food out of the fins on the basket. No clue why the manufacturer made it like that for.

The ribs are done. Big piece has classic hickory smoke bbq sauce & the 2 small pieces has sweet honey bbq sauce.
Now just waiting for potatoes to cook so I can whip up some mashed potatoes
The only popcorn smell I cannot stand is people that overcook microwave popcorn & burn it. When I was working management at a local 7 Eleven, a tweaker came in, grabbed a bag of popcorn & left it in the store microwave so long it caught on fire & it took hours to get the smell out of the store. The microwave, wasn't so lucky-- that smell of burnt popcorn stayed in that machine until maintenance took it out & gave us a new one.

I'm running out of ideas for dinner...... I have some chicken, a whole chicken & some ground beef in freezer still. Takes 24-48 hours for a whole chicken to thaw, so that is out for today. Might look and see if I have any can salmon left in the cabinet. Haven't made salmon cakes for a while.

Usually it's just iceberg lettuce. It's inexpensive & since it's sold as a whole head, I can make salads & other uses for it too. If I get Romaine or another leaf type, it is usually all used up by the burgers.

have you actually tried grilled burger on actual charcoals?
You can get same effect from a gas grill if your grill has a place where you can place hardwood chips between the flames & the grill that can heat up & start smoking from the heat of the flames under it. If you do use a standard charcoal grill, then use only high quality briquettes & toss in some hardwood chips (like hickory) in the burning embers to give the food that smoky hickory flavor.
And maybe McDonald's in other countries are like that Woo, but all US restaurants I've gone too uses 100% pure beef patties & they do not crumble when being cooked. The reason they and other fast food places use thin burgers like that is for 2 reasons-- cost & speed. It takes less than a minute to fully cook a McDonald's burger- including the Quarter Pounder since they use such high heat on their grill. And on the fries-- they are no different than the real fries I have bought in grocery stores. In fact I have had Orida brand fries that taste identical to the McDonald's fries & Orida uses only Idaho potatoes & flash freezes their fries after going through other processes to remove a lot of the excess starch. (and that is why your 'real' fries look & feel different-- they still have a high starch content most likely)

@alpine summit Do you use multigrain bread all the time too? I have stopped eating white bread & going with the honey wheat since it has a good taste. Need to try rye, pumpernickel and a few others . Reuben sandwiches should be on rye (actually it should be on Russian rye-- but I can't get that here in the US)

And if it is going to be made later, I'll buy frozen dough (like this brand), take one out & let it thaw & rise, then form it into a pizza crust instead of baking it into a loaf of bread
Tonight though is going to be an experiment with seasoned ground beef, diced onion, canned tomatoes, rice and shredded cheese all mixed together. Covers most of what's required in a meal nutrition wise-- proteins, veggies, etc.

Changed it up a little-- ground beef, cooked rice, diced tomatoes, diced onion, salt, seasonings, a can of tomato soup & shredded cheese.
Ok, the taste was missing something, so I added a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce to it... Flavor pops a bit more now.
Oh
And it is mix-and-match recipe from the way I created this one-- the ground beef can be swapped out for ground turkey, shrimp, brats, polish sausage or regular pork sausage it you want that spicy breakfast taste you get from pork sausage-- or even the non-meat substitute as long as it will make crumbles like ground beef. Add sweet corn, peas, scallions (I used the sweet Vidalia onion) to make it an even more filling meal & get more of the 5 food groups in a single meal.

I use a very hot skillet when I make grilled cheese & since I have an electric stove I have to watch it doesn't get too hot & start smoking or flame up... Using a really hot skillet reduces the cook time & gets that cheese very gooey. Hopefully if I ever get to move, my next home has a gas stove.

I have 1 pound blocks of American cheese & I cut a slice off about 1/2 inch thick, maybe a bit less than that and once it starts oozing out around the sides of the bread I plate it & cut it diagonally-- since apparently that is how grilled cheese sandwiches are supposed to be cut....

@alpine summit speaking of... I've never tried this, but I've seen the recipe where you take 2 large portabella mushroom domes, grill them & use them as the buns for a veggie burger. No bread= no gluten, starch, etc. Good for people with celiac disease, that eat a Keto diet & vegans.
Here is one example of using grilled Portobello mushrooms as hamburger buns.

This might be a 1 time thing. Diets are a scam-- all of them. The only thing that gets thinner is your checking account. Eating sensibly and watching caloric intake (burn more calories than you consume) works better & is cheaper since you are using foods you buy every day.

But basically...just eat everything in moderation, that's all you really need.

@glossy carbon Actually yes. They aren't interchangeable words for the same thing. Icings are usually thinner, have a glossy appearance in light. Frosting is usually thicker & fluffy- usually made with cream cheese or whipped topping as the base. for me icing is usually hard & if I don't like it, when I go to scrape it off a piece of cake, it usually comes off as one solid piece, where frosting will have to almost be scooped off the cake.
Which is why I tend to like chocolate frosting but not chocolate icing.
People are often wrong about stuff, I find. π
There is a fusion of frosting and icing. Its mainly used on cupcakes (in England) and carrot cakes

Pasta is one thing I have never made from scratch, but have wanted to try to do. I need to remodel my kitchen first. I don't have enough room for the appliances & cooking equipment I have now. I want to build on to the house & extend the living room & dining room out another 20 feet. Then I can put an island where the existing dining room to have a food prep area & under the island storage area for lots of my small appliances.

Different foods need different condiment-- like the Quarter Pounder at McDonald's-- ketchup & mustard, but a Big Mac wouldn't be the same without the Thousand Island dressing as it's 'special sauce', nor would the Whopper be the same if they didn't use mayo on it.

Multiple ways to make French toast- Texas Toast, or any thick sliced bread dipped in a batter & deep fried, or the more simplistic way like I made it-- 4 eggs, beaten, a splash of milk & vanilla extract & placed in a very hot skillet for 2 minutes per side. Sprinkle with a little cinnamon & maple syrup, or sprinkle with powdered sugar. You can add sugar to the mixture & it will taste like a funnel cake with the powdered sugar sprinkled over it.

I just got regular hamburger buns yesterday. Stores here are still hit or miss on bread. I went in last month & there was about 20 loaves of bread in the whole store-- and it wasn't the brand or type I buy.
I would have liked to find some brioche buns or even pretzel or artisan buns.

And that little bit on top is what fell off-- the rest of it is under the melted cheese that is holding the peppers & kimchi on the burger so it can't slide off like happens when you put the cheese on the burger then pile on the veggies

The Omega acids in fish is very good for your heart. I should be eating more fish--especially since I've already had 1 heart attack back in 2012. Fish is real delicate to cook-- overcooked, it is dry & loses a lot of it's flavor. Undercooked & it can be tough & dangerous if it is too undercooked.

I had dehydrated squid in Korea while I was there. It was super salty since I think they used a brine or lots of salt in preparation to dehydrate it & it felt like I was eating a rubber band.
Other than that... it wasn't really too bad. Reminded me of jerky.

Tuna salad is good for a quick lunch on either sliced bread or on a hoagie bun. Nutritious, has the Omega 3-6-9 acids we need for a healthy heart. Only bad thing is you can't place it in your desk when you get to work at 8 & have it to eat at noon.... Needs to be kept refrigerated until time to eat. (Saw a coworker do that once-- went home with food poisoning. He never used the office refrigerator & kept his lunch in his desk)
