As of now the commando is simply a premium version of the shock troop/ ranger which gets useless fast as tanks become more common.

Considering the cost to build including the spec ops center it is pretty useless as a unit.

Suggestion -

  1. Remove the nanopod cost (or at the very least reduce it)
  2. Add Armor piercing capability (make it a cheaper variant of the Veteran)
  3. Add higher dodge rates (Makes sense for a commando to be agile)

Ideally, make him a cheaper variant of the veteran (maybe not as effective with lower damage) to give a taste of the unit. Attacks can remain the same

I think the Commando could be improved but it shows similar replacement symptoms compared to every other unit.

(See Flamethrower to Salamander.)

The Commando gets a grenade launcher ability that does some damage against vehicles. Chipping away at vehicle armor to shoot the meat is what most infantry do when no tanks support.

Tanks on the other hand bypass armor damaging the meat directly. But mostly work better against vehicles over infantry.

I think most the issues stem from the fact the Commando ks locked behind the Spec Ops Center, and relevant for maybe 10 levels.

With the Gear / Bar drought to players in his tier, you pass him by.

Considering the Ranger is basically our Advanced Trooper, and they also suck putting out less damage than the Commando maybe the solution is to buff the units wholesale. The issue is no one has a single solid solution.

We can give the Ranger a melee attack suggestion, but where's his AT? Why does a unit that costs Iron / Steel (Valuable) Do so little?

Comparing the Commando to the Shock Troop is rather underhanded. The Shock Troop works as cannon fodder at the least.

I think I wouldn't be opposed to Rangers having AT grenades, or Commando's maybe not costing nanos.

Hmmm what if there was a mechanic that converted one unit type into a more advanced and powerful version? Kind of like black nanopod infection from the olden days?

Like, take your regular old troopers, and once they reach rank 6 or something, there could be a facility where you spend resources to convert them into elite troopers with actual late game viability?
