This is very pathetic. Catan hasn't acknowledged the issue and neither isn't fixing it. The problem started after the most recent server maintenance on the 28th. Least they could have done is do another reboot.
I suspect during the maintenance the updated the version number accidentally without releasing an update.

Well, I had a really better experience yesterday (so, after their update) than for the past two weeks and suddenly today everything is broken and I'm stuck (like everyone it seems) with the "update the app" message. Did they modify something during the night I don't know but from my side, something changed in the last 24 hours...
Good game, nice graphics, absolutly desastrous servers.
