Shadow was able to reboot, but the windows 11 update has failed.
Is there any other way of updating to Windows 11 then through the standard Windows Update?

I've always done it through the official updater myself

I've always used the Windows 11 installation assistant without issue, for Shadow that is. They also recommend it rather than via windows update.

Well only issue I've had is the black screen.

Troubleshooting: black screen after installing Windows 11
If you see a black screen after installation:

  1. Wait 5 minutes
  2. Close the window
  3. Open the Shadow app and click Help
  4. Shut down the VM manually from the launcher
  5. Relaunch your Shadow

When I use that method, I get the same Shadow is Turning Off / Shadow is Starting loop again 🙁
