#Shadow struggling to run premiere

I can't even do basic trimming because shadow idles at what feels like 20-30 fps and then drops lower when playing timeline. I can't check the exact fps because the overlay no longer works on mac. I haven't used shadow for many months and it genuinely runs worse than my Dell laptop. Before anyone asks a question like "am I using too many effects or have a chunky timeline, I literally have 1 clip on there and am adding a sample text graphic over to begin to make subtitles but the playback is so choppy, rather the stream is. I refresh the stream and it helps a tiny bit but for only a few minutes. 1. Is there a reason why shadow could be running so poorly? 2. Is there a way I can get my overlay back? 3. Any tips to boost shadow performance?

For overlay you first need to delete ~/.shadow/cef folder before starting shadow
