Good day! Long term Shadow Box user here since 2018! I’m temporarily based remotely and don’t have access to the usual Ethernet option. What WiFi usb dongles are compatible with the Box?

One that is no longer manufactured, I'll try to dig you the information :)

#

but could be better to use an ethernet to wifi bridge in that case

#

(as the dongle trick hasn't been much tested recently as you may have guessed :p)

Yes it is unfortunate that it’s no longer made! I wish I had upgraded to the Ghost back in the day. I may have to move to the Raspberry Pi 4 build in time.

#

I did try looking for compatible dongles as they are alluded to but I couldn’t find info on it. As you say, it’s all very old stuff.

Any intel n100 could do the trick and better than rpi4

#

You could maybe also find second hand ghosts for cheap

Intel n100? Ok I’ll look into it

But as a quick fix I cannot go to the store down the road and buy an inexpensive WiFi dongle for my box is what we’re saying

There's a huge chance it won't work, but I'm also an optimist and often lucky :)

#

Don't buy fancy AC wifi 6, but old Gen with good support on linux

Hello, rare Ultra user 🙂

Note that connection quality depends on the wiring quality and circuit layout of your home.

yea you are right, I tested it many times and I get about 85% of the connection, so it does lose abit,

Hey Aimee! It’s been converted to Power but I like the little tag. There used to be a Shadow Pioneer tag for being with Shadow from an early year but I never really pursued the tag more than one message to a mod many moons ago.

I appreciate your little visit! Always a pleasure to meet the CM 🫡

#

So powerline options won’t work folks. This is a ‘college dorm’ arrangement that I can’t really detail other than the fact we only have WiFi available in the rooms. I know there used to be a list of WiFi dongles that worked plug and play style with Box but I can’t find it alas

#

I so wish I bought Ghost back in the day 😦

#

@lavish creek I truly appreciate your help so far. I don’t wish to say you haven’t been advising me

I've not forgotten you, can't get my hand on a list I made back in the day too (too many changes on discord over the years...), but I've access to old firmwares, so may do a quick check now :)

#

also you should think about the wifi bridge option, it could be a more viable solution too :)

#

or a cheap wifi router

Thank you so much ❤️

I just noticed this also from an old FR message but unverified : "Belkin N600, TPLink TL-WN722N and TP-Link-WDN4200"

fair crown
#

Oooo

#

It looks like the WN722N is the only adaptor still made 😂😂

#

I love technology

fair crown
#

Curses! The TP Link WN722N doesn’t work 😂

#

But I realise I selected from what was available and not what you pasted directly from the firmware

fair crown
#

Perhaps beta?

fair crown
#

Nope. Beta doesn’t recognise the 772N either. That’s ok. I’ll try one of the other ones

lavish creek
#

Check vendor and productid :)

#

If it match data extracted from firmware something is maybe broken...

#

I think my next course of action is to get a second hand Ghost unit. If I get hold of one, it'll just update itself as soon as it's connected to the internet, correct?

lavish creek
#

But if unit is brand new, it may require an ethernet connection first...

#

But once updated, it should work fine in both mode
