As the title says, my internet crashes after a little while when I use 5G internet and Shadow. It's perfectly fine if I use 2G except the lag makes that not viable. Every network becomes unavailable and I have to troubleshoot and reset the network adapter whenever the crash happens. Any idea of what I can do to change this? I don't have the money to upgrade or buy something altogether so I'm sorta crossing my fingers and hoping there's a fix I can do on my side. I used the beta version and I switched to the official version. The issue remains. My maximum bit rate is set at 15 too. I've tried adjusting it but the results are the same.
#Internet Crashes w/ Shadow When On 5G Internet

This seems to be wifi instabilities.
You need to try wired.
Unfortunately, I've tried using an ethernet cable too and that didn't seem to help either.
If it were just an issue with my wifi, wouldn't I be having an issue with 2G too? There's no issue if I use 5G on my local computer. Generally, I'll do that unless I try to play a game or something and there isn't a problem.
5 GHz wifi doesn't like walls. It's more easily disturbed by the environment.
And local use wifi isn't a good indicator of your network's stability.
When a packet is lost, it's sent again. You don't see it.
With Shadow, an unbuffered video stream, a packet lost is a frame skipped. Hence lag, stuttering.
could be router issue, try to reboot it and give details of router model, internet service provider
Rebooting it hasn't worked either and the model is RAC2V1S with Spectrum ISP
A shame because my walls are pretty thin and my laptop's on one side of the wall while the router's directly on the other side. I can try to use an ethernet cable again since the other one I used was excessively long. Really long. It was the only one I had so maybe I'll just get a shorter one
I'll ask @outer cosmos as he knows more about puma than me :)
I appreciate that
maybe it's not puma, checking specs for now
I do use an old Dell laptop. I'm not entirely sure if that could be the issue too.
Since it's an internet problem, I considered trying to update my wifi driver. Except I can't. It's been discontinued for a few years now but I was never completely sure if that was even the problem since 2G works just fine. I can understand if the wifi spikes and Shadow loses connection, but every neighboring network and mine being gone? That doesn't sound like just a connection issue. Unless I'm just wrong
best to make tests is using ethernet for now, it's most likely not puma (routers based on puma are for most a pita)
I did read a post about a situation similar to mine but I honestly can't make sense of it.
I'll give the ethernet option a shot but I'll also link the post I'm referring to if you're interested in helping me make sense of it
if you get it stable using ethernet, a recent and cheap USB wifi dongle could help
Okay, I'll check into it when I'm able to. Here's the post I'm talking about https://www.reddit.com/r/ShadowPC/comments/uuawkd/shadow_is_crashing_my_entire_internet/
test wired and report back
Is there a specific one I should go for? I think they had different types
I guess anything Cat 6 or above should be just fine. I'll look for something and let you know how it goes once I get some results.
yes, you may have a short one provided with your router if you don't have any available
I can check but it can't be right now. The box the equipment came in is in a different room and someone's sleeping there so I'll have to get back to you later on. Hopefully, if everything goes well, I'll be able to reach back out later on today with an answer
In the meantime, thank you for responding and trying to help me.
You're right. That's one of Spectrum's Broadcom units.
I went to Walmart and bought a Cat 6 25 ft cable and that seems to have helped it. I can't say it's 100% certain until a day or 2 pass but, as of the moment, it's been just fine.
A few days have passed and I want to put this here in case anyone has an issue similar to mine. The ethernet cable seems to have fixed the problem entirely.
great, thanks for feedback
