Replace Carthographer 3D

Hello together,
I have bought a used 2.4 with a Cartographer 3D V3.
The printer was without Klipper Host, so everything has to be setup from scratch.
So far the printer is now running ok, but the former owner has installed a printbed with integrated magnets.
So with this setup a good bed mesh is not possible. I basically see every magnet in the mesh, the deviations are approx. 0,6mm on every magnet.
Because of this I like to exchange the probe against a klicky.
Can I use the mounting points of the Carthographer?
Additional the printer is equipped with a EBB36 in USB-Mode.
Can the klicky connected directly to the EBB?

I don’t use klicky so I can’t help with mounting but I pretty sure it doesn’t use the same mounting as carto (which do actually use)

You will probably either need to replace the CNC mount for a printed version that can accept klicky or search for an adapter.

My reason for replying is to ask about the ebb36. If you have a first generation you really shouldn’t be using this in USB mode but it’s a CAN board and doesn’t have the protection for that use and could potentially damage other electronics.

Thanks a lot for the hint with the EBB.
That is something the documents will not tell you. I think I will look for a gen2 of the EBB. So far USB is convenient.

It might be the better option to replace the bed with one that has a magnetic sheet.
assuming that the magnets are the washer style and attached by countersunk screws, there are washers that have the exact dimensions of the magnets but are just plain steel.
Then you can add a magnetic sheet on top of that and you should be fine.

Klicky works and is accurate enough (unklicky is a little more accurate and lasts longer btw, consider that if you go with a probe swap), but it takes a lot longer for a good bed mesh and i personally find the noise it makes while meshing really annoying. Since you already have everything set up for carto, the easiest replacement would be a new bed.
Yes that would probably be more expensive, but IMO youd have a better printer with a new bed and carto than with the existing bed and klicky

At the moment it is the Meltbro one with integrated magnets.

These magnets are glued in place with silicone into holes in the bed.

Which bed would you suggest?
