#Giving up on Wifi.

I am going to have to give up on wifi, as my voron is in my classroom at a high school, which makes me dependent upon the IT department for a lot of things associated with wifi. My Voron works great on and off, but about once every week or so, I lose access to the printer wirelessly. I contact the IT department, and within a few day, I get access back, but they are not able to tell me what change they made to fix it.

In any case, I think having a hard wire connection that I can use would be beneficial. I have two ethernet cables and a powered network switch. Can someone tell me what is next?

You just plug the ethernet into the SoC (Pi or whatnot) and into your schools wired network. Or are you talking about just using a computer next to the printer? In that case, plug the ethernet into your switch, and plug your laptop in as well. If that's the case, you'll also need to either manually configure the IP addresses of both, or setup the SoC for DHCP.

I actually don't know. I have little experience here, but would be willing to try either. I am curious, however, about the intermittent accessiblilty of the printer on the network. This seems like a network issue that might only be solved by the school's IT department. Would you, or anyone else, have an opinion on if this is something an IT department should be stepping in and figuring out? It could be, that by bringing a 3D printer into the building, that it is my problem and thus would be expected to figure it out on my own.

Raspberry Pi's aren't the greatest at WiFi; their antenna is typically small and surrounded by metal. Unless it is close to an access point, spotty connectivity happens. Which can also cause high resource usage that can cause klipper issues.

Most likely they put the RPi's MAC on an temp allowed list on the school wifi and periodically purge the list for security reasons. I'm of the opinion that anything stationary should be hard wired to a network. Better overall security and performance.

Might be beneficial to befriend someone in the IT department to help you get a local network setup. It's a constant disruption to the learning environment so they should make it a priority.
