Please find enclosed rules for an alternative method of handling initiative, reminiscent of the BT2018 engine initiative mod.

The order in which units act is dependant on their fastest potential speed, going in order of slowest to fastest.
In the event two opposing units share the same top speed, the heavier of the two acts first. If both are also of equal weight, then the players will roll-off to decide the winner between them and alternate each turn.

This would be horrible in actual tabletop play, because itd make fadt movers even more miserable to deal with

Agreed. I can't see any way this is even slightly balanced.

nope as it removes the enjoyment of moving in surprise ways and also locks you into your own move order.

say for example i WANT to move my atlas last to stand were the locust is... but i cannot because i cannot choose to move my own mechs in order creating WEIRD spacing and listbuilding interaction meta play.

FURTHER what do you do if everybody has the same engine??? or even two mechs have the same engine???
