Help w steel ball run character design(mostly abt attire)

I don’t know much abt the 1800s… or even sailors in general lololol so I couldn’t really come up with anything interesting to the outfit that wouldn’t look way too off. The thing is, it still looks off because it’s so basic. I’m also just kind of out of ideas so anything cool would be… cool. (And I think the entire design could be improved, too! Maybe my colours are a bit muddy there and there or the silhouette just isn’t good.)

Abt backstory, I don’t feel as if I need to go too deep into details or add on anything—but I’m open to suggestions!

I love ur , styleee, I'd recommend u to fix up ur pose and proportions, bc ngl rn its awkard, the right leg is good, and the torso too, but it falls apart when u put them together bc of perspective, so either change the torso or the leg, hmm I tried to keep the torso and the right leg facing different directions, but bc of the right thigh it still looks off. the right arm is a lil too short hehe
