So i tried to do no color shading first and then add on color with this drawing, but it still feels dull and flat. I've tried doing color variation and various different filters but it still seems off. I also feel like i cant reach the desired colors i want, etc for the girl i wanted some parts of the dress to be light pink but it ended up as a bubblegum pink?
#Why does the shading feel dull

I think its cause of the strokes, all the colors kinda merge and look muddy, some are also the same value so they blend in too much (the guys face blends w the ground, some shadows are too dark in areas)
Having hard lines or definitive shapes will help but also for shadows ppl tend to do a blue or purple on a multiply layer w lowered opacity
For lighting do maybe a yellow on a add/glow layer w lower opacity or a linear burn??
Do ur flat colors first, then do shading on diff layers to make things easier. Honestly yeah i just recommend doing a purple to shade, use darker purples for darker shadows (like her right arm) then use a warm
Color for lights n highlights
To be fully honest, this isn't really the main topic but to also make the colors look better you need to fix the anatomy and then to base colors. I'm texting on my phone so it won't look perfect but I can make a representation of how the anatomy/sketch should look. Also, to help with colors after try and putting main colors and then adding others to shade
On my life this is the worst sketch ever but still, try to find references for it too. Do a rough draft, kinda like how I did and then make it look like actual humans. After doing that make line art and color in the line art with base colors and then render
