Hi i started drawing seriously 1 month ago i kinda start to understand proportions , anatomy but i really suck at shading i shade really random and i cant really understand shading how can i get better at shading

Shading random was the thing for me because slowly I began to think "Ah, that one looks nice". I guess it can work
But I saw some people say that for shading you should draw a global shadow and slowly define it

Another thing you could try is that you could get a feel for shadows just by observing something 3d
You can do this with an irl object or you can just find a random 3d object website that will allow you to move the object around so that you can maybe visualize it better in your mind when doing shading yourself

i think this looks really cool! using references and establishing a light source is extremely useful. deciding where the light is coming from first before actually beginning to shade is crucial because shade is where the light doesn’t hit.
