What the person above showed is super good, I would add that what helps me render is to figure out my light source and draw lines from it and designate light and shadows using a hard brush, anywhere the lines hit would be in light, behind would be shadow, then looking at the shape of the area in light I would add some reddish mid tones with an airbrush or blender to soften the shadows. Also don't be afraid to go dark with your shadows to show contrast, it will help really bring the piece off the page
