I would definitely try pushing the leg up to match the perspective lines on the bottom. This is very interesting drawing brewing right here

the issue is where you're placing the calf of the left leg in the pic
in the picture shown on the right
the calf is shown to be moving towards the back
but in your drawing
it's not doing it as much as the reference on the right
try having the leg like the guide i put
because squatting is requires your legs be within the center of mass in order to remain balanced
the drawing you did makes it seem like the fish man is sitting on an invisible stool
if you want him to squat, bring his leg towards his center of mass
that way, he's supported
I have no intentions on making this look better, but the top is what he looks like hes doing
and the bottom is what he's supposed to look
if you want help with looking at this at a certain perspective, imagine a spy crouching
like a deep crouch
imagine how his legs look trying to balance himself
