hii, i love this character :)
im not sure if its what you are searching for but changing the color of your lines is a very quick way to improve any drawing
we almost never see pure black in nature, even shadows have colors depending on the color of the light, the object, the surface it falls to etc
so it feels off to have black lineart, imo especially in digital drawings since you cant really get pure black with traditional medium that easily
here are a few options you could try from least work to most. More work doesnt mean better in art tho, so experiment and find out which you prefere more.
1 since the colors of your character are earthly tones you could do the line art in brown and tie it all together.
2 you can set the line art layer on multiply ( you can search up how to do that for your program) which will mix the lineart color with the color under so you will get some nice variance with minimum effort
3 you can chose different lineart colors for the diffrent pieces of the drawing to match better
4 you can set 3 on multiply too so it matches a bit better but honestly i dont think there is a big diffrence between 3 and 4
you can ofc mix and match methods or chnage methods depending on the piece
i reccomend playing around with it some time
hope this helps
Thank you for this advice! I kinda had a feeling the colors seemed a bit dull after finishing it, haha 😃
i think the colors you picked work really well together! its just that once you can compare them to black they all loose that coherency
ill be back online in an hour, if you have other questions feel free to ask
i will be on a two hour train journey so i have time to kill :)
So I should've chose brighter colors huh?
Sorry for late response
Do you think the arms look decent?
nope not at all. i think the colors work. It just an effect pure black and pure white have
when it comes to the arms, or any other body part, its good to keep the 3d structure of the body in mind
for this pose it woul;d be something like this
the clothing would follow the shape of the body, so for example the sleeves would bend along the cylinder
something like this
Thank you for this! I always struggle with poses and drawing the clothes around them
