I can’t say much about character design because at the end of the day it should be up to the artist to decide what components goes into the character, but what I usually do to add something interesting to my characters are textures and different colours, even if the main components and shape language are simple, good detailing and interesting minor elements can help make a character have welp, more character lol, colours and textures can very from the character’s personal story, such as where they are from (culture, financial background, personality) and as for colour it can determine if a character just particularly enjoys that colour or even naturally adorns it as a survival adaptation for their environment
