I am trying to draw in proportion , but I notice besides the lack of detail I tend to have certain facial features misaligned, is there a method that is used to orient facial features?

the most basic outline for heads is a circle and a cross. The horizontal line would be where the eyes are, and the vertical lines indiciates which direction the character is facing. If youre planning for a more realistic style then i suggest using the loomis method. Its more complex but its also gives more structure when drawing!

When starting out how to draw, its always better to get rid of any uneccessary details. Instead try your best to simplify the shape and lines of your reference. Its also best to use real images instead of art--there may be inconsistencies of the art youre using or just anatomically incorrect. Additionally, the term "figure drawing" is a timed, fast paced drawing session. Although the time varies depending on your skill level, a good place to start is 5-10 minutes, to just get used to drawing without focusing on detail. It will also help you in improving line quality and simplifying art :)))
