hey everyone, looking for some crits. the first is the art, second is my usual style and the third is my reference ^^ i just really hate how this piece is looking so far, and i’m also very conflicted on how to render her hair and ears, or sketch her tattoos (would it even be visible ?) any crit would much appreciated

redline is totally okay, pls ping to respond !

@dark fox from what i can tell here, her character proportions are slightly off? that may be what's making it look off. if possible, you should find a reference to see how bodies shift while on the ground (being pulled by gravity in that specific direction while being flat) as it would help a lot with proportions! with the hair and ears, i think you should just experiment with them in a way that may start out uncomfortable, but will be easier than just stressing about it.

I agree with the other user here- you have a lot of cool stylization but I notice that when it comes to chin placement, chest proportion, and how the shoulders attach to the torso, everything is just very minutely off

#

But nothing super duper noticeable! I would say you’re only noticing this because you’re being very nit picky (which is super good to do especially for improvement :D)

#

I would say maybe look at more references of female chest anatomy from different angles- because the skin/exposed areas look accurate, but when you get to the fabric portion of them under the shirt/where they’re supposed to be covered by a bra of some sort the anatomy goes a little skewy

Also shoulders should be one continuous thing- there’s a little drop down I notice, kind of like if you were making a 3D sculpted figure and you just stuck the arms on the side

But like I said, these are such minute details. You’re on the right track, these are just the few couple things I personally notice that might be part of your issue :)

hii!! i agree too, i made a quick draw over on this reference i found on the internet, what helps me when i need to do these tricky positions is to always think in sections. Body parts will look bigger the closer they are to the camera. It is difficult to translate the proportions while you are also figuring out the perspective, so it always helps to do a test sketch of the character completely flat facing right ahead, no perspective.

Also one last thing while I’m thinking about it- I also notice that you do use pretty much one size brush throughout all of your art, like thin lines on the realistic portrait and the same sized mono line brush on the more cartoony stylized pieces- try mixing that up some :) you’d be surprised how easily you’re able to create more or less interest in certain parts of drawings with thicker or thinner lines!

general critique is the eye kind of pops off of the face a little bit, in this angle you would want it to wrap behind the bridge of the nose! theres always going to be a little distance between the side of the face and eye

I’d say move the left eye a little inwards now (or just warp it to be a little thinner maybe? And I think you’re definitely almost there :) those minuscule changes of the body also really helped already I can definitely tell :D

Would you be okay if I did a really shitty photoshop of what I mean?

Try flipping back and forth between those for a sec and I think you’ll see what I mean

#

The face makes a little crevice right there (your eye socket) and the eye should be sitting in that crevice :) (sorry I realized if the eyes were supposed to have a little bit of a tilt to them I got rid of that in my really shitty liquify job I apologize) but the concept is the same

#

And then I also slightly shifted the head towards the other shoulder

#

But yeah it’s just following those guidelines that although everyone has different shapes to fill them up, we all have the same basic guidelines

#

I hope with the visual it makes more sense 😭👍

the eye that is furthest away on the angle has a slight bit of a turn down towards the bridge not that sharp but yeah its a little bit too high

does this look like in the right direction ? i also made it a bit more defined like @tawdry lynx said ! but i might’ve not turned it down enough, im not sure
