idk if it’s just me, but i feel like my art is kind of messy. when i see other art, it always looks so crisp and clean. i don’t know how to describe it without using someone else’s art.

i know most people usually fill their lineart with 1 solid color before fully coloring. should i do that? i’ve never known what that did. i use ibis paint btw!

how to have clean art? draw clean lines, realistic or well-designed anatomy, clear shapes/form/closure, clear shading/texture/strokes/gradients that follow the form, good/accurate perspective, using contrast to create edge instead of relying on just the line, higher contrasting delineation (e.g top right hair edges the edges and body have same contrast so dont describe the depth change so i'd have slightly darker hair lines at edges to help pop it from the black bg), good contrast for good focal priority, tuning the subtleties, not letting a single pixel leak the line edge.

the most that i see with your art is the gradients dont reflect the shading or matteness of the surface enough, it flattens it in an uncontrolled way. some of your colour usage is a bit clashy as well. when you got opposite colours you want them to strike against each other rather than clash and this is usually caused by overall desaturation / local contrast, like the bottom left which promotes a washed out effect.
