#Steam Deck Assets Missing

It did not, sadly.
I tried quite a few different fixes.
- Reinstall game
- Verify files
- Switch Proton version
Versions tried were Proton 8, 9, GE 9, GE 10, Experimental, Hotfix
- Attempted the launch option change that was actually for Crashing and not assets missing. (/DetectThreadFreezeTimeout=0)
Not sure if it helps but the portrait for Ares was the only one that was loading on runs.
Initially I thought it was related to the newer portraits until his loaded with its motion effects active.
Can you try reverting the proton version to default (unchecking the box) and removing the launch option, then verifying and launching?
Sadly still happening, even the title screen backdrop is in the assets that do not load.
Very strange. Are you booting through game mode or desktop mode?
Game mode.
Should I try desktop?
Shouldn't make a difference. I ask because if someone's in desktop there could be other variables to consider
But one thing may help if you're up to it. It would involve you going into desktop mode to grab the Hades II.log file and email it to our support inbox
where's the file located?
Steamapps/common
or... Steamapps/Compatdata
steamapps/compatdata/1145350/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved Games/Hades II
Sent!
Amazing, thank you for doing that
Received
Going to pass the info you provided and and log file over to our engineers. Maybe they can see what's going on.
Would you happen to have the game installed on an external SD card instead of on the system storage?
It is.
Would that be causing the issues?
Since I've got a 64GB legacy model, it's kinda required.
It's possible. We had a similar ticket entered before from a user on a Lenovo Legion Go that was fixed by a local install
I can give it a shot by transferring it
It'll be a squeeze but if needed I can uninstall a few small things I've got to make it work
Here's what I got back from one of our engineers:
Almost positive this is a bad install. If they're on a Steam Deck, they should do a verify, and/or a full reinstall.
If they say they've already done that, my next best guess is they have the game installed on an external SD card instead of system storage. I'd suggest they install to main memory and see if that fixes it.
I had a similar ticket about corrupted packages / maps from a user on a Legion Go that was fixed by nixing the SD card install
Could try the local install, then if it works try moving it over to the SD card since the files are all situated
Huh.
Strange.
Worth a shot!
If my SD card's going bad, I'll see if there's any warranty for that.
It's another potential breaking point, I've got my /compatdata symlinked to my SD card, also due to the factor of my internal being rather small.
That's an interesting way to save storage space
It was due to it being installed to my SD. will try transfering back but this might be a driving force to trade out my internal for a larger drive.
Having it on the internal does allow the portraits and title to render properly.
It's somewhat common within the circle of 64GB deck users.
It definitely is a bandaid fix for the storage used by the compatdata folder though.
Means switching out SD cards (Say, one for fighters, one for party games, etc) isn't really as feasible.
Were you able to free up space on your main drive to try a reinstall?
Yep!
It fixed my issues.
That's what this message was referring to; apologies for the lack of clarity on that.
