Activision mostly just gave them a whole bunch of money and went 'go off', and both times Bungie had to scrap and remake their game from scratch because they bungled the development. The second time they did that, Activision did start to get a bit frowny about getting a return on their investment. That (and the terrible launch) led to the 'divorce'.

So I've finally taken my first foray into pathfinder 2e (been a 1e player for probably 4-6 years now). Not actually played a game yet, but took the time to read up on it, even make a character. And I'd just like to say, I'm really impressed
It really does feel like it took the best of dnd 5e, pf1e, and totally unique ideas and threw them all into a blender

i remember when they came out with the playtest rulebook I was really put off by it
mostly because of resonance points, which I don't think they kept so that's good
I did like that they took the more streamlined actions from Starfinder

it really fixes the fundamental issues with pf1e combat - too few (good) options to spend your turn doing, and getting hard punished for not dedicating your entire turn to doing it

Iconoclasts and Owlboy are both fairly divisive, I've heard most people get bored before finishing both (though iconoclasts is quite hit or miss, owlboy just seems "miss" gameplay wise)
