Finally tried the empowered single shot for rail earlier today and was doing a lot of damage. My usual build for rail is using empowering bomb with poison, but was wondering if maybe Artemis crit with empowered single shot is better. What are your guys thoughts?

So far, I like the sword the most. Gonna try a run with the spear. The bow is a little too slow for me in a game like this where you can easily be swamped. Haven't tried the shield as I've never liked blocking in video games.

I love the Rail, its been my personal favorite weapon since it launched, and it had a history of being the weapon everyone trashed on until like a month ago :p

I think rail aspects build on its base gameplay the most of all the aspects
the other weapons change it up more drastically

Rail Aspects cover the biggest weakness of the Rail and they do it beautifully.
But fun fact: Both the Rail Aspects used to be Hammer upgrades.
Hestia used to be "Heavy Slug" and Eris used to be "Invigorating Blast"
(same concept different numbers though, Heavy Slug was a "1 in the chamber with high base damage" modification)

For the Rail, I would recommend running Zagreus Aspect to learn how to use it (extra ammo is a great helper to learn)
Without any of its damage Aspects, the Rail is super dependent on getting good Hammer combos to be effective.

So focus on trying to set up good hammer combos. Primary Attack works best with anything that applies fast, so Poison, Aphro, Zeus, Athena if you wanna be defensive.
Special works really well with anything with high damage. Artemis, Aphrodite, hell get both of them (slap Aphro on your attack) and go for Heart Rend.
The best Rail build before aspects was either Aphro Special Dio Attack, Low Tolerance, or Crit Bomb Bonanza as I liked to call it (Artemis on Special, Aphro on Attack, Heart Rend for bonus crit damage, Triple Bomb to make Elysium enemies cry)
Now there's a lot more super fun combos that work well. Used to be that you would need Explosive Fire and Triple Bomb together to actually use the primary to stun enemies and keep them in the blasts. Inescapable is a good alternative to that though.

The best rail play is a blend of the special and the attack in this really artful way. Very difficult to actually pull off, but the special alone can carry runs now that Inescapable exists and you can kinda just lob bombs without having to position them carefully

you could apply multiple dooms and activate all of them within a matter of seconds. Merciful End is one of the strongest boons in the game
especially cause it offers you free damage for activating a doom effect early with a deflect attack

i'd recommend hera bow for the other two, as you can freely place casts where you want from a safe distance

Taking Athena also means chances to restore Death Defiances, which... ya know, always a good thing as well

Zag is an underrated aspect, move speed makes you way more mobile, its worth running if you dont like mixing your specials into your combos
If you do mix your specials into your combos, either Nemesis or Poseidon works. Nemesis scales with Attack, Poseidon scales with Cast

You can also (pro tip) Special, then immediately dash to cancel the special animation, and land it where you exit the dash.
basically pressing the 2 keys at the same time
also helps prevent you from losing your special should you have gotten hit mid swing, you'll be mid dash instead
