ominous thank you
bold of you to assume i have got anything other than a suspicious number of toes
hmm horrifying
late news but magnus archive's last/final season... aww jon you have such a nice boyfriend, please don't let anything bad happen to him
Of course Weezer is good.
I think Bouldy escaped Hades. And his children have crowded in my garden
Translation: was moving ROCKS to build a rockery this week.
cascading rockery? 👀
Im playing FF7 Remake, and Ive made an odd observation
The vast majority of female NPCs have short hair
ay @red iris stream was really nice
Aww thanks buddy 😄
if you guys could chek it out tomorrow
Im by no means a pro at the game but enjoy showing it off. Honestly such a fantastic game
it is my honor to announce that today is belgo day
oh damn, happy belgo day
Oh my gosh, Happy Belgo Day 🌈
...Happy Belgo Day?
@hasty kernel Been watching a playthrough of it (no PS4 myself) and I'm really liking what I'm watching.
Its good
I was worried about Clouds characterisation
Because he kinda became Broody McBroodlord after AC onwards
Looks gorgeous, great music, good writing.
But he is back to his original version
And I like how they expanded on the story
I do have one gripe with the music
Its kinda ... less memorable?
Like, I know most FF7 tracks by heart
But there are some in the remake I already struggle to remember
I also think their version of Bombing Mission is worse
Are you sure it's not because you've played 7 many times before?
Uh, yeah
Ive only played it once
Not to completion
I kinda took a break and couldnt remember where the area where you grind was
And after an hour of failing to find it just said "eh, I know the rest anyway"
Dont get me wrong, I aint saying the music is bad
Its just a general gripe I have with modern Final Fantasy music in that its so orchestral, that its harder to remember the whole thing
Oh yeah, one other gripe I have is ||How much Sephiroth already appears||
||ok but when will we get canon crossdressing Sephiroth||
it's been a whole month of quarantine, I miss junk food so much
what food is on your mind?
Gelato 🍨
burger 🍔
poutine, beer fries, turkish ice cream, waterdrop cake, mr puff fried dough, salty fried dough, strawberry donut...
I'm playing the FFVII Remake rn too and I never played the OG and I think the music is banging so far!
I thought this remake was the whole thing, I didn't realize they had expanded on a part of the original game that only accounts for like, 10 - 15% of the overall plot. It's cool that they've expanded it so much and added all that cut content.
y’all made me hungry now,,
I mean as I said, I dont think its bad
I just think that all the epic orchestra loses some of the essence
Bombing Mission is the one that made me notice it in particular
Though that one also added latin text for some reason
Very particular latin text
Here's a short story on how i came to play SG games (aside from one cause don't have). It all has to do with the soundtrack...
So one day I decide to look up what the top videogame soundtracks are in the 50's and 100's biased or not. The reason is my fav soundtrack comes from Blinx and Blinx 2 (Blinx 2 more) and I wanted to see if anyone even knows it. It wasn't on the list. . . . But Bastion was and I love industrial so it interested me enough to look at what it is. I think Total Biscuit did a WTF is ___ on it. Bought it on dirt cheap sale and had fun. Then later Transistor goes free unfortunately the interest was more in Bastion (but is that really bad?) since strategy isn't up my ally. And recently I used the coupon to get Hades for $10. I stopped paying attention to it cause A: epic exclusive game devs are called sellouts (which shifted away after buying other things) and B: people were saying armor is bad design and i can see why... unless it used to be hp was as tanky as armor. Then hooray I didn't experience that torture!
so if you want to check out blinx and blinx 2's soundtracks just search for them on youtube and look for Parastrat.
Blinx is full of happy music
I love how they keep the stairs scene in the Remake and made it even more hilarious
if only blinx 3 was a thing
there's got to be a way to make "time controls" + platformer really fun and not so gimmicky
By the way
Did people here see that Kickstarter game that it's getting publicised the heck out of it
'sea of stars'
Happy Choco Egg Day to everyone ❤️
Happy Lich Jesus Day
So yesterday
I ran my first ever D&D session as DM
and I purposefully designed the map to be made of stone just incase they went murderhobo-y
didn't want the whole place burning down
well they found the like, few things I put in of wood and burned them anyways
and I was just like, "Yeah..... I Knew it"
Literally the first thine one of them said to me was "Is this entire room made of stone?"
Giving players any source to commit a massive felony is quite a newbie move. You have to make a campaign that makes the world around them that wants them dead. Such way, they would wish they could be friendly.
I gave the NPCs give them a lot of chances to be nice
partly because I overpowered the encounter since I planned for 5 and got 3
so they kept on trying to disengage going, "I dont' want to hurt you"
Well, the campaign could be about how many felonies they can do until they kick the bucket, right? 😅
The end boss would be the King or whoever is in charge, trying to settle things down for their people lol
OMG that actually sounds like a good plot
man I am thankful my (limited but still) players that I have under my wing aren't murderous hobos but at most just annoyed by NPCs
Aw, you are also a DM?
Really the main issue is that I didn't really communicate before making characters
so they all made edgy loners
and then when you put a bunch of edgy loners in a jail cell with each other they all kinda huff and go, "Well I guess we should escape" and then when the guard goes, "Wait, we just want to talk" they go, "I run past him" and when the guard tries to keep them from running past him they go, "I use poison spray on him"
then they roll a 12 on poison spray one hit killing that guard and there was really no way to convince the other folks in the fort that they PCs should be allowed to leave alive
Other than the fact that they were getting destroyed because them bolting screwed up my pacing
so I had to give them reprieves or else they'd just have gotten swamped
"You ran past 3 guards into a courtyard with.... 3 more guards"
Sort of? I have done the kind of DMing but not on big level, up until like last autumn. There I kind of did a campaign. then I ended and restarted it, then I kind of got in DM art block and now I am waiting to get out from it and start another campaign for different people, BUT 2 people still haven't made their sheets.
Poor Yalis was running away when she saw that all her comrades had been slain rather gruesomely and they got a crit shortbow shot at max range
I got a sort of the same problem rn. I gave them too much freedom so the interactions between the snoot of some god that is an old monk, a dragon, a sadistic paladin that doesn't believe in existence of gods, dragonborn and yet to come another necromancer can be hard.
How did it come to such? I dunno. Should I have left the previous group that was vanilla and pretty much easy to keep in one place? Probably.
Look at you 2, discussing DM stories. So cute 🌈
Me, using official campaign: man this is boringly scripted I wanna spice it up.
Me, doing custom campaign on the go: man this is hard to think through I need a pre made skeletons for my campaign.
I just laid an ultimatum in my RPG chat of "IF y'all want to murderhobo, that's cool, but I'm no longer going to take pity on y'all for murderhoboing into an impossible situation"
"you set the tavern on fire expect to fight a lot of well trained guards"
but yes if you people have premade buildings and such I would like to have them, thanks.
My dilemma is that I know how I want to play it out and act it out
but it's hard to balance and actually make the lore and maps.
I would LOVE to DM and roll
but I HATE making the rooms and sense out of it all.
Here's the fort I made
just don't sell it
I really like maps 🙂
I can't draw to save my life, but I can CAD like a motherflubber
happy easter everyone!
Out of curiosity, does anyone here who may or may not be a fan of Sonic games remember those two Storybook games?
To the DMs that posted about edgy characters: I wish you the best of luck and tons of patience
I had a single player like that who was so godamn bad word uncooperative that I just threw him out of the game myself
That is sad
@unborn dagger most sonic fans don't like to remember those
they were not bad, just meh
a lot meh
@mild pelican I personally liked them, though they could easily use some reworking that wasn't semi-clunky controls. I thought it was neat.
I liked the Black Knight.
i heard people complaining that SSR made a significant impact on gameplay of some future sonic games
not in good way
btw, also, today has been 59 years since first human from earth flew into space
some people i know expected some kind of discount on space-themed games.. but no luck
Idk why that took me a second to realize 59 years was referring to the Moon landing... I'm assuming that's what you mean? o .o
And I'd imagine so. I've not played Lost World, but I imagine that's one of the gmaes that SSR's gameplay influenced.
I mentioned the Storybook games because I did research and while they definitely aren't bringing it back, people did vote that if they were to keep it going, the next idea would be Greek mythos. And I was thinking, what would that be like if Sonic was pulled into a Greek-themed "Storybook world."
nah moon landing was 1969
oohhh
they might do something for the 60th anniversary in terms of sales
I'm really craving monster-eating manga or novels right now, are there other good quality stories in the veins of dungeon meshi and drifting dragons?
toriko was good when I was reading that years ago
not sure how much its progressed since then
interesting, like an exaggerated shounen version of battle chief brigade meets hunter x hunter
I saw #thankyouepicgames trending on Twitter and was a little scared to click, but there's actually only a few sarcastic takes.
Its wild west out there, seems like anything can trend
i mean, when the world is basically on pause anything can pretty much trend
yeah I went on google yesterday and one of the trending searches was just "feet"
soooo
Top post on reddit is talking about how "#FireTrumpNotFauci is trending
and it kinda annoys me as like, how is it news that Trump is unpopular
Blerg
Well, redditors can sometimes live in their own little bubble, sometimes they need to be reminded what the average person thinks
Also just being unpopular doesn't guarantee he's not gonna serve another term
God, so many games I want to play and some I don't even know they exist
One Step from Eden: ||Oh, huh, apparently that counted as a victory even though the angel just straight up nuked me||
I got the card that does 1/3rd of the enemy's health in damage on full trinity
Its OP AF
One step is megaman battle networklike
litterly what a roguelike is. a set ammount of mechanics that get repeated and get distorted over time (name a post run progression system in Rogue)
can we just stop calling them Likes? It's like a nice way of saying carbon copy with a 10% difference to avoid copyright
what if we made portmanteaus of iconic games in the genre?
LIke if we took Metroid, and Castlevania
and combined them
into castloid
we need a second most significant roguelike game, that influenced the genre
that happened with soulslike/soulsbourne term btw
roguespire
The only significant thing Dark Souls did is droppable currency, change my mind.
Blanketing high difficulty action RPGs under their name is inaccurate, especially when games owe so much more heritage to other games.
well, let's see
no difficulty: you can beat even the final boss with your bare hands
so, no skill or equipment requirement
comparing any difficult game with ds is stupid, indeed
also, there is no plot in the games. you're just a guy that have to do something
you know what's going on by reading item descriptions, speaking with NPCs, etc.
save points.. bonfires, where you can save and stuff were not invented by soulslikes
refilling healing thing is kinda new
interesting, that ds itself is a sort of metroidvania
and both metroid and castlevania were platformers
so, it's more a sub-genre
They're not Metroidvanias, though.
You unlock linking shortcuts, but there's no ability/mobility unlock that requires you to execute.
you need certain items and actions, to unlock new parts of the world.. maybe that doesn't count
i haven't played castlevania
Dark Souls did not invent keys.
Everybody knows Super Mario 2 invented Keys 🙃
well, that was related to DS being metroidvania, not DS being overinnovative
and i still don't support comparing everything with DS
people compare stuff to DS too much but there a small group of games that would apply to the dreaded "soulslike" term
Soulslike is the Dark Souls of Games comparations
does that mean roguelike is the undertale of games comparisons
Okay, I admit upfront I have not played Undertale.
But in my research, Undertale is just Earthbound with a Metal Gear Solid 2 twist.
well, i havent played earthbound or metal gear solid 2
Neither have I, at least not more than the opening half hour or so of Earthbound.
Hmm, MGS is fun~
I'll admit, I started to play the series mostly because of Snake 👀
If MGS were an action/adventure game instead of stealth I'd play the crap out of all of them.
I loved Metal Gear Rising.
Is this game talk?
I like game talk
MGR is pretty dope
The only bad thing is that the game is from 2014
That's the one with Raiden right?
And no game has tried to imitate anything it did?
Yes, Peach.
Yes, Raiden
2013, technically I think.
Ohey, Arguy!
In my book, year of release doesn't matter too much if the game manages to be trascendental 🌈
My only real issue is that by using free blade mode it's possible for the stick to return to neutral prioritizing one axis over the other, thus ruining your aim in tight situations
I've found that the last 10+ years in gaming have been overwhelmingly lowest-common-denominator chasers.
Also the metal gear ray boss
Ik he's the first one but his first phase is highkey the worst part in the entire game
Before you have parrying?
In stage 1 you can't have any upgrades for some reason
Pretty much the entirety of the opening mission I've heard is just miserable on higher difficulties because you don't have most of your tools.
It's the only character action game that does this
It's like losing all your weapons with Bayo on Inf Climax
Or losing the core tools the game is built on
Also metal gear ray just jumps away from you too much
And for what? An attack that can be instantly avoided by ninja run?
Smh my head
I had more fun dying with Sam's missions than i had beating Ray
tl dr hard games can be frustrating if you put most core tools away from the player
I loved playing as Sam.
Yeah and again
I hated ray
In a way the game really didn't want to
But idk if it's just me, i wanted all those full bar blade modes to have a full on time stop rather than a time slow
I just realized that about your name ending with Ray
Yes i know it sounds weird
But nontheless hating certain aspects of old videogames is a very serious matter
Nah, pointing out game design flaws are important.
I can't play Resident Evil 4 anymore.
(I only watched the cutscenes from my friend's brother file for that one lol)
But still MGR does things right, wrong and all
At the end of the day i enjoyed the game
Not enough to play on the highest difficulty possible tho
Idk why everyone paints every character action game as "get S rank on everything on hell mode"
Play revelations
Played all mainline resident evil plus both Revelations plus chronicles
Nice nice
Hmm, i suddenly want to play god hand
@faint panther What about combos tho?
I'm a big sucker for Bayo games, and i really love the way combos work
Maaaaybe i should be swapping weapons more often but eh
I, uh, hated Bayonetta.
Why's that?
Like i ain't telling you what to like
I just wanna hear why
Even i have stuff i dislike of Bayo
The controls didn't want to work with me (this is after MGR and DMC4) and it had bad Suda51 Syndrome: Too much racing and railshooting.
I agree in one thing, i don't like how you shoot in bayo games
The whole "mash shoot to shoot faster" is a trend of games that must die
Hey, they could have been excellent railshooting segments and I still would have despised it in my hack'n'slash.
Yes the minigames of bayo games are the worst part
I got to ||the last Jeanne fight|| and called it quits because she not only spammed a QTE attack that changed its timing constantly, but to even get to the fight required a MASSIVE railshooter section.
I can't fight the bets bosses because they are behind this annoying segments
They are too long, and a pretty bad shoot em up on top
So I said "Alright, I'll restart the mission now that I'm at a place with the fight that is comfortable, even if these QTEs suck" and then I got put back to the very start of the mission.
Uninstalled it and haven't touched in 3 years.
bayo has more "telegraphed" QTEs
But in bayo 1?
if you didn't mash from frame 1 you couldn't get the full bonus
They actually changed this on bayo 2, but not on the switch port?
Well, until such a time someone buys me Bayo 2 for Switch (if if ever came out on that) or 3, I'm afraid I won't be playing them.
Oh.
They added touch controls but didn't fix that?
Bayo 2 is the better game overall
Combat is better
I bet!
Also this is big
Most enemies aren't as thin and hard to see as angels in 1
In Bayo 1 many enemies had this small, thin and long weapons
That isn't the case in bayo 2, which favors bigger enemies as cannon fodder
@faint panther You.... don't happen to have Smash bros on switch, do you?
See, Witch Time and the parry amulet helped with that enough.
I do not, unfortunately.
I, uh, hate Smash 4 and Ultimate.
I don't like how they handle.
Just those?
I've got Mario Kart 8!
Then you like melee?
And Brawl, actually.
I like brawl's story mode
Haven't played Brawl in a minute, but more recently than I did 4 and I still liked it more.
'Fly me to the moon' was obviously a Bayonetta original song
It's just finger licking good
If my wii had a working cable i'd replay it
Personally i don't like smash bros as a fighting game
Subspace Emmisary was awesome and it's very Nintendo of Japan to cut out the story entirely from every following game because they didn't like that it was uploaded to YouTube.
It tries to add as many characters as possible while ignoring overall balance
Fun fact: My first Wii broke the day that I bought Paper Mario 64 on the Virtual Console.
OMG
I can't play fighting games. I can't link together attacks at all, I either mash auto-combo or don't play, but I love Smash. Juggling like that just makes sense to me and I can combo in it.
fly me to the moon was just frank sinatra leaking bayonetta 46 years early 😉
Peach, PM64 is my fourth-favorite game.
Behind Bloodborne and in front of Mega Man Legends.
Then back to Bayo
It's just, so good 😩
I don't like games that tell you "Hey, see that huge health bar? Keep it EXACTLY as it is"
I'm wishing they can release a virtual version of PM64 for the Switch. Play it on the go~
I heard that with one of Mario's 5- or 10-year anniversaries coming up that we're supposed to be getting a bunch of older Mario games coming to the Switch's VC.
I would freak if we got PM64.
I would scream so hard my neighbors would knock on my door
I definitely had one or two mission stubs that I replayed over and over for a Pure Platinum medal.
It's honestly too unbearable for me
Specially since bayo has no "chapter restart" button
I thought it did, that's what took me back to the very beginning of the stage ||with Jeanne 4.||
The only reason i don't replay bayo
Either way
That's something i say for every game tho
My most hated trope ever
No-damage/mistake challenges are technically feasible in every game.
"Don't get hit"
But I agree that a giant stamp saying "Ha ha ha do better next time" is really annoying.
Like getting bombarded with bronze Joe Pescis in Bayonetta.
It's sad that Schpoon doesn't play fighting games that much. It would have been fun to play Tekken or Persona Arena together hehe
"I'm just starting out, enemies are attacking off-screen, and I KEEP USING STINGER INSTEAD OF HIGH TIME."
I'm a fighting game enthusiast hehe
Lily is my fave in Tekken. Yukiko or Naoto for P4A
It was me whenever Bayonetta kept dogging on me for taking damage.
I'd say Rachel Alucard for Blazblue if you like that one as well
Even Dead or Alive?
I thought it was a spin-off of a volleyball game
The volleyball game was the spin-off.
What about DMC5 extra challenges?
Even if unlocking everything in the game only needs you to get planitum and not pure platinum
I'm jesting, mate
Why does the right stick taunt
DMC 1 hasn't aged all that well tbh
Who even sees the right stick and says "yeah this is for taunts"
I hated the camera in 4, as well, and I got stuck on Cerberus for two weeks and haven't touched 3 in two years.
Whenever people praise all of DMC like, the entire franchise, i think about how the main system that defines it was made for its 3rd installment, then perfected in the 4th
Most educated people I know specify 3 and later, to be fair.
The game just learned to improve over the years and people just assume it was born perfect smh
DMC 5 is very recent tho
I tried 1 years ago, before I ever tried 3 or 4 and the difference is stark.
Reminder that the latest dmc has an extended cutscene where Dante straight out imitates Michael Jackson
Just over a year old, yeah.
I mean, back when people loved DMC and begged for DMC 5
It was when the discussion was at its peak
This reminds me of how Monster Hunter improved over the years
at least it's not RE dicussion of "we want x game remade"
But seriously tho Mario 64 has a better camera than most of DMC
Why are they remaking every RE game ever
And they are so changed is literally a different game
They remade RE 1, 2 and 3. I think that's enough, right?
they remade 2 and 3 because 3 takes place at the same place as 2
RE1 was remade years ago
Like you can't say the game with tank controls is the same as the one with an over the shoulder camera
There was a 1 remake less than 5 years ago.
I think they remade it so they would look more scary with the improved graphics?
Gotcha.
Just like Capcom to make the remastered version
Expect the golden and platinum version later XD
I wanna see something new from capcom
at least it's not RE4, the skyrim of capcom
Look, I just want a decent 2D Mega Man reboot (not 2.5D) or Mega Man Legends 3.
They are milking old games yet No Marvel vs Capcom Infinite + 1????
the rumour mill for RE8 and RE4R is ridiculous, yet people are buying it hook line and sinker
I feel like RE4 hasn't been quite as badly abused as Skyrim.
With 4, at least they're bringing it to new platforms.
because I mod for someone who's main schtick was RE4 speedruns for a while, I've seen a whole bunch of "have you seen the news, RE4 remake is happening"
They just... Keep releasing Skyrim.
hey..
buy
They even Dark Souls'd it and released a version that was just properly optimized because they couldn't be bothered to do it right the first time.
the remaster of RE4 ain't really that good though tbf, the hd pc mod does a better job of remastering RE4 than capcom
remapable buttons Pog
Highlight reel
so, people can change B to A and vice versa at last?
Btw this is important for smash fans @faint panther
It totally is!
This essentially lets you... map stuff into the dpad outside of taunts
The only thing I want to change in Smash is turning tap jump off, but you can't do that in Melee and Nintendo has made sure that Project + will only ever occupy the gutters.
I still want to take out my parasol as Peach as I watch their demise 💗
At least Melee lets you use tilt attacks with some speed instead of making you use Smash attacks.
Good music is very important.
Yay for weird friends
Well, I can relate.
Megalovania is worth 6 cents btw
People generally derive pleasure from weird things.
My three favorite games all owe a large portion of their place to their soundtracks.
Good games happen without great soundtracks. Great games don't.
Music and visuals are important for the fun of a game
At least as long the BGM is mutable.
That oomph you feel when using an attack, for example
It can make your actions feel more relevant and exciting
I wish i can manage to make something good out of my game design career
I made foobar playlists with tracks from Guild Wars and TES for each region in TESO, just because I found the OST there pretty underwhelming.
@tender cobalt btw gotta ask, what do ya think about strive?
Strive?
Yeah
I haven't heard of that game before. Sorry...
Oh hey, a mod who plays BlazBlue
Neat
Even if their character is annoying
Stupid Rachel and her stupid frog
Don't forget Tiny Lobelias ❤️
I wish I could
Then again I play Hibiki, maybe I shouldn't complain
Did you ever play BBTAG?
I did
Not exactly
You have one big dlc pack that unlocks every dlc character
And it's basically half the price of a full fighting game
The base game however also only costs half
So you basically get all characters for the same price, you just have the option to pay less for fewer characters (but there isn't much point to it)
It's fun, I just wish it was more active on PC
I see. That makes it more fair imo
I hate it when they lock characters behind DLC from the get go
Yeah it was an odd marketing choice
I also wish Neo from Rwby and the literal tank were better
But look at the bright side
Adachi is one of the best characters in the game without being outright dirty
I just don't like cross-screen beam special that has way too little startup
It also clears all my Seth projectiles for free
The bright side however is that I can finally play Seth without having to be good
Rick May, the VA for Solider in TF2, has died
man it's been a day and I still haven't gotten over it
damn a new XCOM game
wait really?
oh heck yeah
Welcome to City 31, the beacon city of a new life on Earth - one where humans, aliens and hybrids now coexist under a post-war period of fragile peace. Dangerous conspiracy groups threaten to upend that peace, however, and Chimera Squad has been mobilized to investigate and pu...
it'll be $10 at launch, then go to $20 after a week
looks like a fun spinoff, will have mod support and a slightly different tactical gameplay loop
👀 👀 👀
I have a suspicion that this is to tide us over and lead into XCOM 3
which I am down for
wait this looks cool as heck
yeah it looks really cool
interweaved turns, breach & clear mechanics instead of being all sneaky
the units are all unique so if one dies you have to restart unfortunately, but otherwise this looks really fun
i'm okay with the no-death since it's a spin-off, they're trying something new with what looks to be a more personal story
the new mechanics all seem cool too
yeah it seems like a fun break from the xcom 2 formula
My guess is
The game has a no-death rule because everything seems to have more HP than mainline xcom
Plus, this means there might be no negative progression at all
That's a huge plus from me
I just hope the whole anarchy mechanic is more "humanly manageable"
Like, if it rises it rises, but doesn't just go SO fast you have no way to avoid it and get locked into losing
@velvet fjord PLAYABLE SNAKE WIFE
PLAYABLE SNAKE WIFE
it's like they looked at that Playable Aliens mod and went "yeah, I want Rainbow Six XCOM"
and heck yeah playable snake wife
For real tho
The changes to tactical loop are my favorite change
The thing i dislike the most of risk/reward tactical games is losing units, not because "sad i cant use my favorite units" but because grinding low level stuff lategame is more of a chore than a challenge
the reduction of the strategy layer and the interweaved turns means that this will be a lot more "moment-to-moment" than EW/2, which should make for some interesting moments

yeah but I mean you aren't building a base or scanning places or researching and stuff
it's more focused on the missions than the overarching progression of the campaign
Oh yeah
It seems this game favors the tactical mission aspect
Specially with that "robot fills in for your units"
I can't say i dislike it
In fact, i love it
I in fact had already bought it 5 minutes after the trailer
10 euros for a new XCOM? DAMN YES, BABY!
Yes that is dirt cheap for xcom
@fervent zenith but what do you think about progression changes?
Missions being failed upon death of a soldier and overall more HP seems the game completely ditched negative progression
Well, I think they just wanted a lighter experience
Like those extra tactical missions on xcom 2
Also after Battletech I'm anxious for more content
AndPhoenix Point I think doesnt run on my PC
Ok, let's see if I can finish Eliza today or tomorrow
I need to figure out what to do for my D&D session this weekend
=\
I think I'm going to have my party run into a recruiter for the kings army and they're going to try and conscript them.
man what about something like Hanzel and Gretel
last session I had of D&D, I went to a cabin pretty far from the main city
And saved a (supposed) human girl (in her 20 or something)
we went inside the cabin, and 2 party members fell in love with her instantly
I've grew suspicious, so tried to rush everyone out, and was succesfull
We started going on our way, but one party member stayed back at the cabin without anyone noticing
We got back, found a couple and the girl fighting 3 wolves
after killing the wolves, we found the missing party member immobilized, and "being taken care of", the girl said
one of the Paladins of our party decided to check if they were "Good or Bad"
lo and behold, before using the magic, the 20 something girl stares at him and grins
wings grow behind her back, and the girl and guy from the couple do the same thing
basically, we were lured to that house, but resisted, other then the 2 party members
and because of that, we went into a fight with 2 Succubus and 1 Inccubus
a party member died falling from the skies, after being blinded and badly beaten
I'm the party member with least health and almost got killed as well (for being suspicious, the DM let me have a first move while the demons were "transforming", and I used it to make some sort of defense to the party)
We ended up killing the demons, despite being badly injured
Demons would be kinda interesting

Uncharted: Nathan Drake collection and Journey free on the psn store :3
Oh! Can you download them without PSN Plus?
It's not required 😮
can you commit region fraud
legally? no
@hasty kernel WOOOOOOH KNACK 2 BABY!!!!
http://kck.st/2yRvmUA
Just check it and watch the trailer. you can even download the demo from steam and play if you want , if you liked it back this project , if you can't just spread the word to help a fellow gamer achieve his dream.
@odd grove The podcast you recommended to me...it's mediocre. Kaya said something about 90% of income in Germany being spent on taxes and insurances and such misinformation just pisses me off.
@gaunt valley i reccomended it because Cr1tikal is there
Also it's 7 in the morning so i hope the ping was important
This is an international server, and a big one at that
are the ps games up? i want to see my boi nathan again so bad since my ps3 broke and the CDs are just sitting there
even the psvita cartridge as well but we dont talk about that
will hades have mac version?
Not a fan of that kind of regular turn-based combat
But I like how it looks
Nvm, it has a timing mechanic
Im a real sucker for those
Ill keep an eye on it then
The Chroma card game also looks reasonably interesting
Oof, 2022 release date for sea of stars
It already reached all its goals, and beyond
I love pixel art and turn-based combat so I might get it if I can (still a long way till 2022)
i agree, it also looks super cool
Oh I love the pixel art, and the environment design
And it looks like itll have proper exploration
The combat is not exactly my style, but timed attacks are sweet
Might be the first game to truly scratch that Crosscode itch
@queen rover @ your comment, i notice this a lot primarily with games in alpha/beta/early access/any general state of unfinished work, any sort of criticism is regarded as hate, even if it is constructive, and often i see people resort to "its still in development!" as a defense. like... yeah.... development is when constructive criticism is absolutely necessary for a game to grow and improve, defending flaws under the pretense of its still being worked on does not help anyone. any developer worth their salt will be open to constructive feedback, those that shelter behind a community defending them from any sort of negativity are doomed to either fail or be riddled with ongoing drama.
then of course there is media in general, where fans will take criticism towards things they love as a personal attack against them, which is silly. someone else's opinion of your fav thing shouldn't affect your enjoyment of that thing but some people think differently lol. like listen, one of my fav indulgences is dynasty warriors, trust me i am very well aware of enjoying something that is largely regarded negatively outside the fan space, and i am critical of the series flaws and short-comings despite my enjoyment, but i still enjoy it
My bad, I was caught up in something.
Absolutely, it's bizarre in the first place that this is something that would need saying when it should be common sense.
While I don't know for certain why does this happen so much I can't help but feel a certain insecurity given the irrational nature of this blind defending of something even to its detriment. In a way it might be a counterculture of sorts, after all not all criticisms are constructive, and there are people that gain a following by making essays on things (or criticizing popular releases), so they could be trying to balance things out by being overly positive and they end up going too far in the other direction.
I suppose it could also be about trying to fit in in a fanbase, and they try to justify their place in it by being its stalwart defender, so to speak, but this is just guessing at this point. Criticizing something does not mean that you can't appreciate its virtues, and letting someone know of the flaws in their work is a way for them to be made aware and improve.
Though I feel it creeps into interpersonal relationships as well, at least from my experiences people seem awfully opposed to any sort of clashing of ideas and disagreements, as benign as they might be, there's a big fear towards anything they may deem as spreading negativity.
oh yeah there's definitely a difference between valid criticism and someone just. being hateful, and maybe a lot of people either find that hard, iunno. i think a lot of it is also people want to feel validated in what they enjoy, so someone saying they dont like x thing isn't the validation they want. it can be taken to extremes, for sure
a disagreement concerning a deeply held belief usually triggers the fight or flight response
so some of the weird argumentative stubbornness is instinctive
Hey, everyone! Can I get an opinion on something?
what might that be?
So my boyfriend is thinking of starting a Kickstarter about his custom D&D 5e campaign setting, and he'd like ideas for digital rewards. 🙂
how exciting
hi res art is a common one for lower tiers isn't it?
also a soundboard thingie for the campaign would be really cool
that would probably cost a bit more though
could also do minis as a physical reward, or a 3d model for online play or printing
Trying to avoid physical rewards for the moment, but I'll note those down!
Additional NPC stat blocks, maybe? Like, a supplemental book to go with the main setting?
could also offer for someone to design an npc in the campaign
Yep, got that one!
I'm probably saying it wrong, but... y'know, Example NPCs that aren't super core to the world, things that GMs could implement directly or base their own ideas off of? That tends to be a pretty good one.
could also include a list of backers in the credits
as a tangent to npc designing you could also have custom spells and items with backer chosen names on them
Oh!! That's a point!
Maybe a custom quest, destination, theme...?
Yaaas these are helping a lot
it's april so there's only 3 months before july, the midsummer ghost month, again
(I say midsummer but in canada it's sometimes barely summer, but eh)
I wanna do a night of 99 ghost stories here if it's okay?
what would that entail?
It's Canadain so it shouldn't be bad
it's actually taiwanese tradition I think?
though Canada's birthday celebration is in july too, so double festivity
Oh, well, you are Canadian so your actions tend to be nice
(Forgive me for stereotyping lol)
haha it's positive stereotyping though, I don't mind
and turns out that while it's normal to do summer camp bonfire ghost stories in canada, in eastern asia what should or should not be done is more mixed, and in europe it's even more confusing and there's often a huge pyre involved... despite being in midsummer
and this year's summer solstice is june 20, not early july
anyhow, the activity on my mind was the thing where everybody sat in a circle around a bonfire and takes turn telling stories
if the stories are connected, even better
we can make it into a storytelling contest, vote using emoji reaction, and the next day the person whose story has the most votes wins a game code
because it's possible to metaphorically ride on the tailwind of another story, the story should be able to escalate
in versions where telling 100 stories causes the final storyteller to become abducted by ghosts or become a ghost (similar to the 100 consecutive hiccups kills a person folk saying), there's care to light 99 candles and blow out one each time to make sure that we know we didn't reach the number (though ghost stories often end up with somehow there is a 100th candle that wasn't there before and voice comes from nowhere, and the candles gets blown out seemly by itself)
Well, that sounds like a heartwarming idea (pun intended)
I'll post more specific rules and details late may or early june
Oh, that sounds like a lot of fun. Great idea 👀
Hey, people in TTRPGs, I'm thinking of trying to get my players conscripted into the army as a plot point, and just to liven things up I figure that a hilarious way to do that would be to challenge them to a competition, e.g., "if I best you at XXXXXXX you are now soldiers in the kings army"
How would you feel if your party got challenged to a game of rugby
or, something like ultimate frisbee?
nah, rugby
ultimate is too dex focused
do you want it to happen with some sort of bizarre event?
what do you mean?
Like, weird and funny
what do you have in mind?
Well, you could always use a game of random and pull the strings
I'm still not getting what you're saying
Ok so the party in your idea plays rugby
yeh
And seemingly they lose and get in the army
yeah
I mean, I don't care if they do or don't get in the army
I just want there to be an active recruitment as a setting point
Ahh, i see
There is a kings army, they're kinda desperate for coin and soldiers
You could set propaganda around
But how would I get them to play rugby?
Also, I'm amsued by the idea of them getting conscripted
Make a "militarympic"
i feel like it would make more sense if winning the contest got you into the army
if they wanna conscript people
I assume that the party doesn't want to be conscripted
They make people take part in diverse challenges of mind, body and strategy
so you bait them with a contest and they learn afterwards that they won a job offer they can't refuse
hah
and all the civilians can be bummed because the pay is good
The winners get into the army as high ranking soldiers
And losers become privates or smth
But how would I get them to play rugby?
@serene tulip Players are always allured by
Oh, so the pay is bad and they don’t necessarily want to be in the army. Then, make it so they feel obligated to participate
Probably through a 3rd party
the pay only has to be good by civilian standards as well
it just has to look good, they don't need to know that it's bad by their standards
i like peach's idea too though
there is also the traditional lottery method of conscript picking
I don't want them to want to be part of the army
you want them to get in trouble by getting conscripted only?
I want them to either A) Get Conscripted, B) fight their way out of town and be branded as deserters, or C) play a game of rugby to either end up conscripted or with dispensation to be "deserters"
it would probably be best if the method they get conscripted by is unreasonable and unexpected, so as to make it more upsetting
the idea is that they're going to walk into a town, there's going to be a huge gathering of mostly women and children who are going to be yelling at soldiers for having taken sons and fathers away and for taxing too much and the soldiers are going to see them and go, "Hey, you guys look strong, y'all are in the army now" and they're going to go, "WTF, no I don't want to be in the army" and the soldiers are gonna say, "Well, lets rugby for it" and they're going to go, "lol, ok, that's new, lets play"
I just want to know if y'all think that would be fun
I mean, that's the option
if they start a fight they'll be branded as deserters
if they play ruby and win, they wont be
and will be given special dispensation to not be in the army
ah i see
it sounds good
personally i'd be tempted to make the contest something really dumb
it would still be funny if winning led them to getting conscripted though
I mean, I might do that
another option could be a contest of luck that could be spoofed with sleight of hand or something
could have them do something like a caber toss
that's a pretty standard somewhat silly sport
also it turns out there's a wikipedia article listing basque rural sports
I mean, if we want obscure rural sport: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windsor_Pumpkin_Regatta
i love it
i am noticing a trend of local occupation-oriented sports being more amusing
You ever dunk cookies in milk and think of Achilles being dunked in the River Styx?
Yes
While I take that what you're looking for is the surprise of suddenly being thrown into the army and having to deal with that, I can't help but feel that it could also be an interesting experience from a position in which the party does want to infiltrate the army's ranks for their own needs. Say they need to infiltrate the castle for whatever reason and they have a bunch of options of approach, one of them being to win the competition and be legitimately allowed in
You could turn that into a mini heist while you're at it. Time to plunder the treasury 👀
rip me i forgot to add cupcake liners to my cupcakes and i didn't grease it either. im never gonna get those cupcakes out 😢
You could use a knife to slide it through the borders then try to pluck them out carefully with a spatulla or something else
They won't be as pretty but you will still enjoy them 😅
Yeah it’s just the outermost layer that will be wrecked
You can still scoop out the rest of the cupcake
Let this be a warning
Everytime you cook cupcakes you'll think of this- And not forget it again!
Thinnest knife/spatula you've got, hit with just a little canola/vegetable oil, very carefully go around.
I feel like I should bake something
Do it 🧁
but effort
Worthy effort 🍰
they somehow managed to only stick a little so it wasn't too bad
oh man I should bake apple pie tomorrow
share!
In general, or individual?
It's interesting to see that more cold aspect of the war
He enjoys it and certainly wages out of amusement, but he's more of a controller type of bloodthristy
Specially interesting given his character points out his role is making wars to prevent humans from ascending to become greater, really good
Id call it Dissonant Serenity
He is unusually calm
Which makes him more terrifying
I'm just disappointed that Zeus feels too generic
He's supposed to be self absorbed, yeah. But his egoism created about 60% of the greek mythos one way or the other, and his character doesn't seem to acknowledge that for the time being
I wish more people writing around the greek mythos kept in mind Zeus' fear of the "real" human race
The "real" human race?
Yeah, you see
In the myths, humans were actually made out of two halves
They had great power, enough to take even on the gods
Zeus, wary of this, used his thunder to split them and separate them so they may never find that half
You mean my college lied to me?
Eh, no idea then
But its not part of greek myth
Then, back to what is indeed the greek myth
Zeus did do stuff that was dumb, and caused grave consequences
Right, but Zeus is also too self-absorbed to ever admit that
Namely all his fooling around, with rather bloody results
Is it spoilers to talk about greek mythos here, tho...?
Yeah, makes sense i suppose
But anyways, yeah Ares is an interesting design, visual and character wise
I found a pretty interesting take on him too in Dota 2
But it was more regarding the connection of greek and roman pantheons
@dense wren on hits?
So I just finished an Adventure game a little sappy but I ended crying a bit at the end :')
It was a beautiful experience
The game is called Lost Ember
Nono, not sappy at all! It’s a nice feeling when a story makes you cry
At least, for me it is. It means it was touching
I had a run the other day where I managed 10 Shaped Glass, had 2/1 HP and was invincible because of OSP.
isn't OSP turned off on monsoon?
Nope, OSP is only turned off by the Glass artifact to my knowledge.
Also, for all the Switch owners here; Invisigun Reloaded is on sale right now for 99 cents which is a huge steal considering the game is typically $20. It's super fun and has a really unique mechanic.
‘Summer in Mara’ is a summer adventure with farming, crafting, and exploring mechanics set in a tropical archipelago.‘Summer in Mara’ is a single-player experience in a calm, relaxing environment, with a handmade look and an exciting narrative. You will be Koa, a little advent...
2020
What you think?
After playing Deiland I think this one is gonna be great
so many good games... need to finish my projects and backlog first though...
I am doing that
List of games I finished today
Refunct
Another Lost Phone: Laura's story
We went Back
Atelier Ryza DLC
Lost Ember
On the other hand
The guys who are making Edge of Eternity and the guys who are making Praey For The Gods are gonna put out new content soon
So I'm excited for that too.
Ohey a fellow Atelier player 🍄
Hi, this is the only I played
How the heck they get the strength to make a game a year I don't understand
I liked it
Maybe was bias but I knew the twist much before it was revealed
But I suppose I went already with the first game twist mentalized
Don’t tell me! Haha
Like if you play the first game you expect the second one to be the same
Unlike the first one the game outright tells you the twist if you ask it
Oh I’ve played two already, I thought this was a third
I... don't think so
Hmm let me see
One about ||The transgender kid|| and other about ||Domestic Violence||
eah I bought it at 99 cents and didn't play until today
Now I'm gonna play The First Tree

Yoo
Pop music superstar Ariana Grande performs 'I Won't Say I'm In Love' from Disney's 'Hercules' during 'The Disney Family Singalong.' Watch the full special and highlights on ABC and Hulu! #stayhome #withme
This is so good
She even does all the Muses
Im still working on finishing FF7 Remake
The music really picked up this chapter though
Its unique and refreshing
And not overly orchestral
And Aerith has been a much more fun and interesting character than I remember
As for Atelier, it didnt seem that interesting to me
Part of why I didnt like it much, it has the fanservice-y angle a lot of modern JRPGs have that I hate
I was also just not impressed by the gameplay
Again can't blame you
I personally enjoyed it because I'm a sucker for the Alchemy and the Thighs
Atelier’s character designer sure likes the absolute territory
Apart from Lost Ember (Which again I can't reiterate enough is now my favourite 'Walking simulator') I also played two other very good story driven games
The Suicide of Rachel Forster and Sea Of Solitude
I liked the latter one much more tho
Sea of Solitude sounds atmospherical
Ah and also Mythic Ocean
I actually have games with anime tags filtered in steam
because I got really tired of all the shovelware hentai vns
Spoiler of SoS, I found hilarious how the protagonist is ||Much cuter as a monster than as a human||
Reference
Not my type but does look pretty cool
||https://i.ytimg.com/vi/DOuM6nslL_w/maxresdefault.jpg|| And ||As a Human||
It was actually incredibly atmospheric
I got engaged every minute
They are both nice though I’d want their human eyes on the monster form
but that’s personal, I just like gray eyes and silver accents on darker surface-
Wait
No way
Kay must be their daughter or something, head canon now
Her hair takes after the mother too
lel
We actually met Kay parents in the game
||Giant lizard and octopus respectively||
...
The symbiotic mushrooms got them huh
Short Story driven games whose all symbolism derives of mental health is a whole genre by now
It's almost sad who they originally pioneers/popularizers of the Walking Simulator genre got pushed at the wayside
The Chinese Room devs
After dear Esther they created Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and everyone has gone to the rapture which were kinda forgettable
I mean I generally like Alchemy as a concept, but that too didnt seem to exciting in Atelier
Then again I cant say there are many modern JRPGs I would call good
The genre has seen better days
Although Falcom is still doing good work
Cant wait for fall this year
I want the more "punk" style alchemy if possible
I just started Onward and I can already tell this movie was engineered to make me cry.
@hasty kernel Actually I'm now gonna play two JRPGs Ive got in the backog for a while
-Nights of Azure 2
-Crystar
Dunno about the first one
Considered the second, but wanted to wait for a sale first
All I know is that the gameplay looked somewhat eh
Yeah its rough
JRPGs are very Hit-Or-Miss
My main issue is that Squeenix doesnt make them very often anymore, and DQ just isnt my thing
Falcom are the only ones that still make games fairly consistently and very good ones at that
There are a couple indie-ish games that are decent here and there
Or even great like Crosscode
But by and large its legit just "hope to dodge the fanservice nonsense"
Crosscode trascends RPGs
Kinda, but it still fits the genre
As in is so frigging good labels don't apply to it
Yeah I know
It was my GOTY 2018 after all
And the reason I started playing a bunch of JRPGs to try and scratch that itch
Maybe you should have searched MMORPGs lmao
Ive been playing those for years beforehand
That genre is in even more dire a situation
There are like, 3 good ones, and nothing new is coming out thats any good
Oh, bloot I have a reccomendation of an RPG I loved
Also the joke was that Crosscode was a RPG that pretended to be a MMORPG
Have you played Legrand Legacy? It's great mate
Oh, Did you like it?
See, this is why time asynchronous chat is wild
Yeah lmao
The ye was in response ot the crosscode pretending to be an MMO thing
Yeah I realized
But no, I havent played Legrand Legacy
There is a free demo
In Steam
Its on a seperate page
Or ... not?
Weird, it says it has one
But I cant see it on the steam page
JPG talk? please try Riviera: The Promised Land
Steam also says it has one
But it just redirects me to the page
Where its not shown
Riviera was the first RPG I discovered that did not have mandatory random combat
Also if you can get over the overcomplicated Combat, Resonance of Fate is great too
I tried Resonance of Fate
Its the only one I didnt play through
The combat was actually the best part
Its everything else I didnt like
Oh
and Riviera didn't have the loli in bikini style issues
Lol different people different experiences
The weird dialogue, the nonsensical plot, the drab environments
Lets see, of the ones Ive played
Caligula Effect had Transistor-like combat that is very fun
And pretty fun characters
Dragon Star Varnir? Alliance alive?
But environment design is repetitive and the story does not surprise you
Did you played them?
Let me tell ya a thing
The latter, once again, first time Ive heard of it
do you prefer action RPG or turn-based again?
Action
I have a booknote where I note all games I want to play
If its turn-based its gotta have a good gimmick
Or have the rest of the game be so solid that I can forgive the gameplay
But it makes for great reccomendations
I.e. Persona and ToCS
Then again ToCS combat kinda just breaks about half-way through each game
And you start oneshotting, or nearly oneshotting, everything including bosses
Otherwise, I played the ToCS games, they were great, especially plot-wise
What about Greedfall? Its a western but.....
Though I may have spoiled myself on parts of the fourth game
Or may not
Im not sure
Im still curious who the Grandmaster is
Greedfall, lemme see
I watched Wander play a bit of it, I wasnt impressed
Cosmic Star Heroine?
Man you really know just about all JRPGs, huh?
Nope, havent heard of that one either
I know about VG in general
A lot of playable characters
I meant more in, is it just early FF-style combat
