I meant "Biene Maja" and "Wicki und die starken Männer"
Theyre pretty old
70s specifically
But theyre pretty well-known in germany
I also remember one with hot air balloons
Likewise drawing a blank there
google isn't giving me the titles either
my bad about the lion and deer one, it was italian, not german and was called Simba: The King Lion
Its the original one actually
oh wow, really
no the original one was the japanese one with the white lion who can speak human
then disney copied the japanese lion king, some images almost identical
then north korea and italy together made simba the king lion
tbh I can't find the german one anywhere
google just tells me I mean the disney one
yes very helpful
and kimba the white lion was released under the name Jungle Emperor Leo in the west?
I know Kimba
and kimba's name was later officially changed to leo
do you have a source for this north korean simba
there is no dedicated translation project for german animations on bilibili or similar free-to-watch websites unfortunately
I'll try if niconico has something
Though its not really animated
searching for ドイツ動画 on niconico gave me some really strange videos
I found this video of this artistic live action movie about this amorphous white blob living in this guy's fancy condo
something about artificial muscle tissues
the german nosferatu movie from 1922 is on niconico
1922 german cinderella is on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kku75vGDD_0
Bernd das Brot was apparently popular enough with the French for a while?
not just that, it seems that many german animations are popular in France, and Catsuka featured Felidae and two other animated movies
Anyone here saw Titan AE.
I think I did
Now that was nostalgia for me
the one where a boy has this star chart on his hand, right?
well, for the first few minutes, then he was a young adult having this adventure in space
it was some awesome movie
the scene with the spectral space birds
okay I'm not going to start about birds, it was more than that
||the human "traitor" who ended sacrificing his life to join the circuit... ouch||
yo that muscle robot thing is
so wild
Also the main character of Titan AE's name is Cale c:
Yeah it was one of the two cartoons I rewatched in VHS over and over
The other was the Sinbad movie
Probably the greatest pride of my namesake.
lel
Honestly I hope disney actually remakes the less successful moves
THOSE are the ones that need it
But yeah I obviously loved it as a kid since I have the same name.
A live action Atlantis would be gorgeous.
All the best parts of the Aquaman movie were the underwater bits
Titans AE wasnt Disney though, was it?
wikipedia says it's Fox Animation Studios and David Kirschner Productions
I think I enjoyed Titans AE at first, but was less impressed by it on the rewatch?
Dunno though
Its been a decade
Probably every kid thought every animated moie was Disney
Nah I knew it wasnt because the feel was totally different
Well the issue with Titan AE is there are a lot of CG elements that
Just did not age well at all
Disney can make darker and grittier movies
But they still have a Disney element to them
Titans AE didnt have that
Anastasia being the most famous example although now it ACTUALLY is a Disney movie
Reminder that in Atlantis ALL the ship but the protagonists got killed
Titan AE was great.
It's a super good movie but the ships and stuff, and the whole Earth getting destroyed scene is p. ugly compared to today's standards of computer animation. I wish they had just traditionally animated all the elements but w/e it was a trend at the time to blend.
Or the fat Kerchak in Tarzan got almost pretty graphically hanged
@toxic steppe You have another good namesake: Cale Henituse from the Korean webnovel Trash of the Count's Family.
But it was still Disney
Hahaha.
Speaking of which I just loved the characters of Atlantis
Especially the demolitionist and the geologist
Also Hunchback with apretty realistic example of religious zealotry
Hunchback also goes HARD on the soundtrack
It's one of the few exceptionally good webnovels around, no nonsensical emphasis on lazy fanservice or old fashioned homophobia or anything
Gotdang
Worth a read, by the way
I'm already Googling it haha
Atlantis was just... one of Disney's best, quite honestly, along with Treasure Planet
the buried gems of Disney history, its hybrid CGI/2D era
I mean it's hard to go wrong with Treasure Planet because they're adapting a p. solid book.
And pirates are already cool.
Not just that
Pirates in space just elevates
It was just incredibly well crafted in its own self-contained sense.
Yeah, the world building.
see video above
Like the solar surfer
I agree with like, pretty much all of it
It actually builds on (!) the original story in interesting ways
I remember the McDonald's toys for the movie still
makes Jim more nuanced and compelling as a character
hah I remember the Atlantis fish toys
The one that sticks in my memory the most
I may have gotten the BEN toy once upon a time.
Are the toys for Inspector Gadget
Because they all could be put together into one big toy
They had some Transformers forever ago too that could be combined
McDonalds, I mean.
nice.
But the torso for Inspector Gadget was like, transparent.
Oh man, Inspector Gadget is another blast from the past
And it must have had like a flint and steel in it or something because you just had a lever you pulled and it would spark up inside it
But yeah, in any event - Hunchback was also excellent. I miss when Disney actually took risks and had more interesting characterization like Frollo.
Titan AE... hm, I agree the animation didn't age as well
I think the Titan AE animation is still good enough
The hand drawn animation is fire
It's the CG animation elements that didn't age well.
Yeah early CGI was rough
I mean it's watchable.
It's good, just the CGI isn't quite on par with Disney's counterparts
Its similiar to how FF6s art aged wonderfully
The main thing is that they simply did not have the tech, I think?
I just question why they included CG elements at all
Yo the new FFVII is gorgeous tho
It sure is
Deep Canvas was proprietary.
I almost finished the original
Fox Studios, I'm sure, didn't have anything quite that badass in 2000
I got stuck towards the end
And going back to it
I had no idea where the designated grinding area was
So I was underleveled without a way to level up
I'm looking forward to finally experiencing it.
@toxic steppe It was the new big thing, studios were already pushing to just move from trad to CGI.
The only thing, and I know it's an old game, I just wish I didn't know about ||you-know-who's death||.
Treasure Planet and Titan AE failing within two years of each other was used as an excuse to kill 2D animation for years
I know nothing about the story except that single event.
And I doubt it'll lessen the impact but still.
I wish I could go in 100% blind
I do feel like those movies were... maybe partly too far ahead of their time.
Yeah Cale
It is always troubling
RIP ||Jessie||
Anyway, FF7 is interesting
Like, really, the tech to make affordable CGI/2D mixing was just not there.
THAT'S NOT WHO I WAS TALKING ABOUT

lol rip now i know two deaths
FF7...
I think thats a side-character that isnt important?
I played it as a kid
Anyway, FF7s story and characters might seem cliched nowadays
and I could not get past that tank
But back then they were fairly new and unique
They said they gonna take Midgar and make it a full game
see, the thing is, I hate Active Time Battle.
I fell in love with Jessie instantly tho lol
I hate it so much.
I'm the opposite and I don't like turn based
I've always preferred the classic pure turn based
So more sidequests, weapons and a big city
Turn based OR real time
FF7 had so many spinoffs back then
Eh, I dislike both turn-based and ATB
Not half-assed "you have a menu, but if you take the time to actually look at your spells instead of making snap decisions, the enemy will hit you three times".
Crisis core was the Cool
Either go full action
which is what ATB seems to always do
Or if you go for turn-based, make it interesting
See: Caligula Effect Overdose
Here is almost full third person Shooter with Barrett lol
Which is a turn-based JRPG using a Transistor-esque gameplay
Well the remake has a mode for ATB where the PCs will auto-combat and you can just focus on commands instead.
Like Dissidia
But Kingdom Hearts conditioned me to playing and using menus super quick
Caligula has Transistor-esque gameplay? 👀
@toxic steppe What do you mean auto combat with commands?
So they just auto attack until you override?
@fervent zenith I unironically loved Dirge of Cerberus.
also, I mean, KH is the only one I find tolerable.
The thing is, KH menus are streamlined.
Yeah lol
Classic FF is just
I never played classic FF
well, I like having a lot of spells
Just FFXV
Sort of
But the VII remake menus seemed tight af
Basically the way Caligula Effect Overdoses gameplay worked
And it has quick bar too
Is you had a party of up to 3 or 4 (I dont fully recall) characters
And you could plan out their moves
oh, so it really is modernized
They had a limit of I think 3 attacks per turn
Yeah.
Transistor is one of my favorite takes on turn based.
And basically, you saw what the enemy was about to do
But above all the graphics look insane.
And could plan around it
Using countermoves, stepping out of the way, etc.
You could even delay your attacks to combo with others
I'm excepting some gorgeous cutscenes
And it gets really fun
The main issue is that towards the end it gets a bit easy
And bosses are strange since knockups and knockdowns usually dont work on them
I mean, I don't really look for difficulty
I think I'll be fine :v
as long as it's not "I literally oneshot/stunlock the final boss" easy, it's fine by me
I own both Bastion and Transistor and just sat on them for forever but now after pumping like 80 hours into Hades I realize that I'll probably love them both just as much

On another note, back to animation: Spider-Verse is honestly the most interesting new development in 2D animation, I think, in terms of pure technology.
The game as a whole is a bit strange
I liked it
But there were elements that bugged me
Spider-Verse was one of the greatest theater experiences of my life
A general lack of environment design for example
Yeah Spider-verse was bloody amazing
The new My Hero movie was also super cool to see in theaters
There are others that are just as good lately (as complete packages), I'm sure, but the techniques they used to make the damn thing...
Those are pretty insane
Yeah.
You know, I wish IPs like Treasure Planet had survived to see this kind of tech being feasible.
That's the real tragedy
It is funny that despite DC generally having been much better in the animated department
See: Batman TAS and Beyond
they were kind of 20 years too early to use what we have now and not comparatively cost a fortune for what they made back
I'm biased because Spidey is my favorite but I'm glad it was his movie that got the super dope animated treatment of any of the Marvel characters.
They didnt really change their tech much
oh yeah
they are still pretty awesome looking, though
the classic style holds up
Was just thinking in terms of - hybrid 2D/CGI animation wise, Spider-Verse really is the future
I'd kill for a proper continuation to That Era of Disney, but made with techniques like that.
And yes, that includes a real Atlantis sequel, damn it
I mean, on one hand yes
On the other hand, Disneys 3d animation has gotten really good nowadays
On the other hand, I'm not sure I trust Disney not to mangle them nowadays
Yeah Frozen II was graphically amazing.
Mmmm
Most of the sets are achieving photorealism at this point.
I liked Princess and the Frog.
Wish they'd do more 2D still
even though their 3D CGI does get more impressive, I still miss it
I was thinking Zootopia and Moana
Those two were great though.
I didn't see Frozen 2
Moana I think was the last one I watched
It was leagues better than the first.
Or hell Incredibles 2
Moana vs Mo' Anna
Which granted wasnt as good as Incredibles 1

But like, that wouldve been unlikely
Yeah but at least we got modern Elasstigirl
yeah, wasn't as strong narratively, but it looks... damn good
Shout out to all the gratuitous butt shots in Incredibles 2
You know, I'd watch an Incredibles TV show.
is it intended that caligula's music sounds like rhythm game in term of music design?
Kinda, I guess?
Music is the core theme of the game
And it does have a cool trick
Where the background music you hear in the stages, and the battle music, are the same track
Oh, damn
Just the stage version is instrumental
Apparently, part of the reason Incredibles 2 was not as good
So when you swap into the fight screen (Which is a fluid transition)
The vocals immediately kick in
Was that they had to make lots of cuts, after they lost a WHOLE YEAR of production to Toy Story 4.
What the heck even.
They swapped release dates by an entire year and kind of shafted Incredibles 2 though
I still liked I2 a lot
Yeah
It was just slightly underpolished
But still great
The bright side is that Brad Bird has enough material for a third movie as a result of the cuts...
So, well, I'll take it?
Something something equivalent exchange
I would want a time skip if anything
so caligula has dynamic sound (voc?) much like supergiant games, interesting
Not immediately, but not like, over a decade either, personally
But yeah, I do kind of want to see timeskip
Sort of
Soundtrack is basically all done with a Vocaloid-like software, by various people
Each stage has one song associated with one Ostinato Musician
Which are the antagonists
Theyre honestly pretty good
vocaloid-like software to add to the "this is not real" feel huh?
Well also because lore-wise, the music is done by vocaloid as well
The premise is that youre stuck in a world created by a vocaloid and ruled by these ostinato musicians
And youre trying to break their hold over it and escape
Honestly the plot is the weakpoint because for the most part, there arent really any twists
darn, it's another Atlus game, no wonder the music is good
so gay pairing? 👀
(probably not, since Atlus, but P2 did have canon gay pairing in the draft that had to be removed before release)
Hm
Id have to look it up
I played the male character
And of the male social links, none of them would make sense for various reasons
Ok there is 1 that is implied if youre playing a female character, and another that is pretty outright
Though the latter is also a character that kinda hates men which is a bit uh
Questionable
Even if it is explained
...Atlus strikes with the misandristic female character again huh
Kind of
hope this one is more explained and it makes sense
Alright I should elaborate a bit
The other theme of the game is that everyone who is in this world suffers from some kind of Trauma
Or mental problem
In her case its an irrational fear of men
I see, so it's not on the same level or area as the "kick the guy between the legs for breaking a DVD during a biking accident"
what even is that
Persona 4
Chie does that
I will say that Yosuke does kinda deserve it, but not for that
he should get kicked in the leg for being homophobic later on, not for breaking the DVD from the accident
Yeah
oh. I didn't get to PLAY most Personas
Anyway, if you do consider ever getting Caligula Effect Overdose, Id wait for a sale
It does have a fair few flaws
sure, I think atlus usually goes on sale around may or so?
or any of the personas, actually
On another note, now I really wanna get AI: The Somnium Files
Iunno
Oh I have played AI: The Somnium Files
Its very good
Despite some of the humour being the type I usually hate
But the characters are well written, the gameplay is pretty fun and the story is intriguing
Though there is one slight issue I had which is that depending on the path, you might figure out the cases fairly early
Ooooooh I need to start Somnium Files
I picked it up on sale during the holidays and actually need to play it
the spoilers channels discussion is making me think of that blog's musing about the game called The Void
about the potential toxicity of gifting, and if such gifting was abuse in that game
in that game, harvesting colours would slowly destroy the world, and the harvested colours could be gifted to those women who cannot refuse such gifts even though it's destroying their shared homeland, and you are likely gifting them for the rewards
what are the key sell-points of Somnium Files?
A good plot
And good tinges of humor
Pretty long, tho
The game is mostly just interact a type of meta puzzle game
That ca't give more details without going into spoilers
have u heard about Curse of the Dead Gods game? looks a lot like hades
@hasty kernel Tell me please you also got tired about The 'Racy' mags running gag
(Curse of the Dead Gods does look similar to Hades, how's the quality?)
Albino, have you played Remember Me?
Only partially
SF's puzzle reminds me a bit of RM
Now you say it the brainwash sequences were similar
Its just here there are paths
I also Just finished The Turing Test
Pretty nice puzzle game
on the subject of visual novels like Somnium
If you like Portal
Zero Escape is a great series.
tfw I've only finished VLR though
I mean that's the part I was talking about that normally doesn't appeal to me
Also: Steins;Gate is great
The gag wasn't great in itself
the VN original has a great art style
But I loved the character interactions during it, sooo
Not only was bad
But thay make the gag one dozen times
At least the mystery was good and truly surprised me
3 times, IIRC
Although thats thanks to how different the two main branches are
Anyway biggest selling point to me where the characters
Which are great
And the humour which is largely pretty good
Also, which path did you go down first
Left or right?
Left
I think
The one where Mizuki ||Doesnt recover from the rauma right away||No wait thats the right one
||The one where Date sees the corpse in the psync was the right one. Right?||
Yeah
I went for the left one
I imagine for most people that's the one they took
Anyway the thing is that the order seems to change how you see the mystery a fair bit
Yeah the right one makes you think ||Renju is the killer while the left one they paint him a s a victim immediatly||
Because ||it was pretty clear after you go as far as you can on the left side what the gimmick of the murders was, all you were missing is the method||
Also the right one is HEAVILY centered in Iris
Mmh
While the left one was all about Mizuki
Mizuki was great
And the left bottom path was very heartwarming
Still is hilrious in hindsight how in the left path ||The villain plan goes perfectly but in the right the plan derails COMPLETELY||
Yeah
If it wasn't for ||Iris death Mizuki route would technically be a happy ending, tho||
Also did you get the joke ending with the receptionist?
Who you thought was the killer originally?
Well the left route gives you a strong indication early on that it might be ||the MC himself||
I thought it was ||The Boss|| lol
||I knew Date wasnt because as They said he just couldnt be there to commit them||
||And because the game is from his perspective||
Yeah I suppose that makes sense, though I thought it might be ||unreliable narrator||
I mean ||You have a witness literally on your eye to attest your innocence||
Speaking of which, do you know the anime Id:Invaded?
It's got a pretty similar concept to the Somnium Files
Nope
I've been watching it, it's less humerous and more gritty, but pretty good
I just hope the obvious twist will be subverted
I'll keep it in mind
nooo don't enable the bun
that reminds me https://tapas.io/episode/1674114
I guess the ghost bird person got their free coffee
...I guess that's not a bad way for this meme to escalate, too bad I can't try this with my own fish
@bleak thicket Xenophon and Herodotus, but I Xenophon offers more nuance than I thought.
Are you talking about the Symposium?
And I concur RE Epimondas. The Helots story is not a pleasant one.
Hes like the greatest greek general you've never heard of
No, Xenophon wrote about the Spartans and some of their practices. But I may have been in error. I think it's the marriages that are mandatory.
Yeah, he seems to have been left out, even though the collapse of Sparta excited much interest.
And thats because of the Thebes helping the persians that one time
And so now they are forever bitter enemies
And no athenians would willingly praise thebian generals
Nope. The Athenians were a pretty stuffy bunch, at least the ones who wrote.
And thebes was destroyed by Alexender shortly after
I can't STAND getting killed by Theseus. If it looks like I'm gonna go down in that fight, I make sure to let Asterius get the killing blow,.
You know there's a special dialogue for if you enter the Fight with the Yarn of Ariadne?
Yeah I saw that. Its really cool! I love when they add stuff like that
thoughts on curse of the dead gods?
what's going on ppl
@wide ember remember how I told you to wait for a sale on the Somnium Files if you want to get it? Well its on a 50% sale on steam right now
Dew it
cool, thanks for the notif I'll buy it after I'm done eating
how do I take an emote to be my profile pic?
saw
and I love it
Because
best character
Right click it, copy the url
Might have to ask permission though, but I'm not sure who made it
Joanne maybe?
Whoever came up with that emoji is a genius
Man, is it weird that while everyone is hype for FF7 remake... I just want an accompanying Dirge of Cerberus remake?
Like, it wasn't the best game, but it had so many good ideas and so much potential.
The gameplay suffered from "baby Square's first shooter" syndrome, but the RPG aspects of it were pretty much what kicked off my love for modular weapons and magic guns.
Oh. Ohhhhh.
New trademark filed...
Hot damn. My wish may come true.
Hopefully they'll do it, maintain the cool stuff like the idea of a wildly customizable gun and the mountains of easter egg unlockables, and actually make the game surrounding that... properly good.
That would be sweet, we've come a long way in that genre since then
I mean I recall the plot of it being ridiculously stupid
But then again, the plot of Crisis Core was kinda silly and I do love that game
So sure, why not
Vincent gotta be able to do parkour while shooting though
But with actually good enemy design
The enemies were atrocious in DoC though
(also, amusingly, this is about the day Warframe is reworking that)
True, but they are also awful in Warframe
Its more that theyre boring to fight
to be fair, whenever DE makes an interesting enemy to fight like the exploiter people throw a fit
because it didn't die in 1.64 seconds
Pebkac on the part of community, indeed
I suppose
My main issue was that while the guns were fun, you mostly fight grunts
And the grunts are boring
They just run at you or away from you in a straight line while shooting
...when did you last play it?
yeah that is a good question
they're actually doing some reworks to AI and other stuff this week I think
Hey guys, just watched the recent NoClip video and I have to ask, what is Will Turnbull's and where can I buy one, it looks dope af!
rip i have to wake up at 6 tomorrow
hello everyone
Lets see
Maybe 1.5 years ago
Granted that might be a slight overexaggeration
But the enemies didnt do anything interesting
I didn't but I am impressed how they sneaked in that ||not so pleasant death scene||.
@pliant atlas new characters feel neat, more of the same which is GREAT
I need to watch it, but I dont really have time to rn :S
Mutazione is going to be free on Epic Games on March 12!
and I'm downloading AI:SF, it's going to be ready in 2-3 hours
Tfw I'm too broke for AI or Steins;Gate
so, uh...
apparently frictional games are up to something
and by "something" i mean a new game
They're the studio behind Amnesia?
(I can't believe that Ota's mom is holding the meme kitchen knife with roses on it)
yup - amnesia, penumbra and - my fave - soma
If you like atmospheric horror games play 'moons of madness'
I've been looking at that
seemed interesting, even though I'm not an enormous horror fan
(except for lovecraft, which MoM qualifies I thinks)
Is that the one related to ||The Secret World|| that just came out recently?
My PC is Dead need few days to get fix
What top play now on PS4 switch or... Android phone
😟
@raven harbor It's not an spoiler though they are very open about it

The machine we produce has mixed metric and imperial fasteners.
May the Lord help you
...I must admit though, I did this for a design project, for a job interview, accidentally
Got the job tho

Hi
You're a bad person
I thought I was going to have to have an intervention with our lead engineer about just using too many different hex wrench sizes
But its even. Worse.
Last place I worked used two Friggin' wrenches. a 9/16th wrench and 3/32nd allen to make an entire vacuum pump
Wonder if those designers got an achievo for that

@true notch I looked at a cast listing for Black Widow when I was bored and apparently there are flashback scenes involving Tony Stark. Like, I get it, he is the Marvel star, but I kinda wish they would let RDJ move on to other work.
I mean the guy already moved on but yeah, they should probably stop bringing the character back, that kind of ruins it
I bought a controller
for no particular reason
It was fun with Hades
but how the hell do people play fps with controllers
yeah probably
I have aim assist off
and this is my first time in my life I use a controller
I will never be able to play shooters on gamepad
but ... i dont like them anyway, even on M/K
Aim Assist and sensitivity cranked up high
Its still a lot less effective than PC tho
I mean KB/M
I've played a few shooters where aim assist was a soft built-in aimbot.
I can't believe I skipped Titanfall 2.
@buoyant frigate I think there was something called mudbox in maya or something again was years ago when I tired maya, I frond I liked making 2d stuff more so ended up getting into dragonbones pro.
Maya and Mudbox are two separate things actually! Both robust though.
Never heard of dragonbones though, what’s that?

cool! I really want to get spine.

thanks will check it out.
It’s used in the Unity game engine so if you’re animating for games it’s great for that!
It also has a really easy to understand weight painting function which I love

Real talk, why am I not playing the ZX collection on my SN30 instead of my DS4
Was ZX better than Zero? I was really feeling the limitations of the GBA trying to play it.
I personally like ZX better but I also didnt play the Zero stuff until uhhh
Last week
Zero 1 and 2 are good but really dated with certain mechanics and also just relentlessly unfair
Zero 3 is hands down the best so far, and Zero 4 is fun but really feels like a continuation past something that should be over
ZX is super neat but also doesn't really accomplish the Metroidvania end of things super well?
Apparently they uncompressed the anime cutscenes though, which is super nice
Ooh, that's actually kind of a bummer.
Hollow Knight is rekindling my love for platforming.
Don't get me wrong, I think they're all still great
Aside from some blood curdling bits in Zero 2

And the QoL changes in the collection are exactly what they needed
Namely abolishing lives and implementing a checkpoint system
I very specifically avoided X7.
Or even MM1 levels of just being flat out unfair
It's worth playing exactly once for perspective
Did you ever play 20XX?
I have! I actually helped Batterystaple show 30XX last weekend at PAX

My main gripe with Zero 2 is like
Ooohh, they got the art style!
Okay, if you enter a stage with an A rank, the boss is tougher and you get an EX skill for beating them
I loved 20XX but the art kinda messed with me.
But the rank system is so tight in 2 that I got one, dropped to B, and never saw another one
Zero 3 lessened the penalty for taking damage
So I coasted on an A and had fun getting all the skills
So, lemme get this straight: Zero 2 had unfair level/enemy design, making it extremely difficult to get through without getting hit multiple times, but you have to no-damage levels in order to reliably progress through unlocks?
did yall know that helicopter isn't "heli" and "copter" together, its actually "helico" and "pter" together
Less no damage, more as little damage as possible, and the unlocks were like, bonus moves and not needed for progression, but otherwise yeah
Zero 3 has the same system but the constraints are way looser
"don't get hit" is literally the worst challenge possible for a game to put focus on
oh my god IT'S SO CLOSE
LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AWAY
the hype is unreal i'm heckin shaking

i don't care what my manager says
I love how they literally added DOOT
doot
So.... A game I kickstarted FIVE years ago got released
And got a key for my troubles
I had completely forgot about the game lmao
What game
Yes, your grace
I love how freekin' extra Captain Holt is when he's supposed to be like, this super straight guy
@serene tulip You do realize how ironic is that right
I do now
thoughts on Curse of The Dead Gods?
its tiny compared to Hades
Definitely also much harder
I dont rly feel that each of my runs ware somehow different .
@fringe sparrow in all fairness it just came into early access
It was long in private beta
I cant tell you how long as I was invited like 2 months ago, but it was also active before
but yeach it can be close to half year
(loud internal screaming over the end of AI:SF)
Holy.... Have you already finished it?
Fellas, have you watched infinity train 2?
Given that you asked that last week I'm not sure if the answers have changed
:(
Hey, did anyone else but the box set of the vinyls? I know they're supposed to come in Q1 of this year but hopefully anyone knows a bit more?
i got them! i think thats all we know right now?
:o
I think that's all we know right now, but I was hoping someone knew a little more. I'm just so dang hyped I can't stand it
Guys. Did you see that f2p game on steam that it's basically an enormous middle finger to Death Stranding?
I have not
Which game?
Man Standing?
oh wait
Maybe I found the one you mean
Walking Simulator?
honestly there are so many of these
man standing looks the closest but it’s not f2p
Yeah it seems to be Walking Simulator, since it's the only recent parody game of death stranding
that is free
I totally did not expect death stranding to be a walking game tbh
I mean to be honest no one did
the trailers were so gameplay lacking it was hard to tell lol
@sudden torrent Yeah that one
Some people REALLY didnt end liking that game
Gonna play it rn
To see if the real deal is worth it
Lol, I just realized I have TWO games about Falcons in my Wishlist
The Falconeer and The Falcon Age
I thought they were the same game lol
I think people really started memeing on it after that one statement of certain group of people from Kojima saying they wouldn't understand it, despite most characters following the dumb "I am that so I do that" kind of thing, where nickname fits them or they really just see it as "walking simulator" that is being portrayed as masterpiece. Genuinely after listening to other people playing it and telling their experience and time to time watching a full playthrough of it I kind of feel the game definitely has the idea of what Kojima wanted it to be, but what it lacked is the execution overall. It can be enjoyable, but only really if you would enjoy it. Just like with Pathologic, the intent was to send a poetic message of sorts or at least some sort of smart idea, but really it just kind of had it jank. Overall Kojima should just fully become a movie director at this point, the gameplay is not his thing unless someone is by his side to somehow keep it a game that's playable and Death Stranding is a hit or miss, depending if you wish to go through it and intend to go through what game has on offer.
I second the movie director part
Though I can’t tell if he is good or bad at making games
They really shouldn't take the Statements of Hideo "Breathes through her skin" Kojima that seriously
he really needs someone to be on his side to actually make a game that is accessible and can be considered as a classic. Konami was sort of that, it wasn't exactly the best type but it did best at somewhat keeping him at bay going over the top.
Real life animals do that though, like African bull frog, so at first I thought she was spliced with that but...
A sane editor for kojima, that’s not easy to find
It’s very difficult to tell if his visions are visionary or trash sometimes
His stories really seem to go more and more like he is making a jenga tower of every movie ever into one plot in hope of creating a masterpiece.
His vision after all is mostly affected by his love to movies.
Not wrong
That's why MGS3 rocks.
He only 'Plagiarized' James Bond
His game also kind of suffers from KH storyline type. I won't lie, as an outsider who only consumed his games via videos of different types over maybe a lot of sorts from his personal stories, analyze story dump and others I still can't tell what is what and how should I see MGS. It's just such a mess when fully connecting all games
By themselves, they seem barely understandable. Outside of that I have no idea what's the outcome of the story overall
Clearly the only option is to play the best Metal Gear game, Revengeance, and ignore the rest
Don't forget discussing the dna of memes
I still don't like how Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Revengeance have such identical names. Considering past me would think you aren't joking and MGR is the only true good entry.
I mean
They are also visionaires
It's the only one I liked playing lol
They've got a warmongering politician saying "Make America Great Again" in 2012
Revengeance is the only one I've played (RULES OF NATURE) because I can't stand stealth.
I like stealth in theory, but I'm super bad at it
Metal Gear is like Warcraft and Starcraft: I think the lore is super fascinating and a lot of the time the stories are absolutely killer (Snake Eater), but I am barred entry by a genre that is anathema to me.
Same problem with regular fighting games. I'd love to learn FighterZ, but I can't combo three hits together if I'm not using the autocombo.
Stealth as a system itself is honestly hard to even master to make. I am trying to think of a good example that balances game logic and enjoyment perfectly.
I think my favorite stealth game has to be Mark of the Ninja
Oh man now I remember that spider man game with stealth gameplay in it.
Not Spidey 2018?
Nah, earlier
I think it's the PS3 one
Dishonoured tho
The stealth basically boiled down to "web the guard onto ceiling and have others guard go "it was just a wind"."
(I like surreal elements in my games)
Dishonored is a good one
Dishonoured had some gameplay issues but I loved the ambiance
And the gameplay was enjoyable enough too
Yeah I honestly enjoyed Dishonored 1 and 2. Even though my playthrough of get many people into room after being noticed or in case of 2 just stomp them to sleep
I still kind of find it funny that the jump on takedown was so easy to abuse.
Regular humans don’t mind what is above them
Though you’d think trained guards would think of minding it, with so many broad edges on buildings
No, it was to point if you jump and teleport or use some sort of prop to gain additional air you can basically do a takedown of that sort
Which as much as I found useful I also found it an easy way to break the combat economy.
What's Echo
Danish indie?
Rising Revengeance was a banger, yeah
Also I love stealth, but I think stealth is a hard genre to get right
Especially when it comes to handling lethal vs non-lethal and failure
Personally I play every stealth game non-lethal, and am unlikely to play a game if non-lethal playthroughs arent an option
Think so
I find most stealth to be ok. They are there, but I kind of wish they were something else most of the time. Stealth shouldn't really different much from going loud. It's just should be means of getting additional reward tbh.
Nah I think Stealth allows for a lot of interesting things that if gung-ho is a viable option just get lost
The subtlety of infiltration
As for Death Stranding, my issue with it wasnt that it was a walking simulator
Its that its a walking simulator that doesnt let you enjoy the walking
Oh it definitely got that going.
Though I should maybe worded it wrong. Stealth shouldn't be that stupidly easy or that seriously hard to point restarting over and over is kind of needed. Should be some sort of balance for the understanding of environment and AI plus some sort of hidden mechanic to prevent a way earlier failure for the first mistake.
Personally I like Stealth when its hard and failure is likely, but restarting is quick
My main gripe is that the narrative is rarely set up for that
I feel like even there should be also some sort of separation by checkpoints if you will.
Yeah, but like
Id like if there was a narrative reason for it
Something like a test run
Or a simulation
Like katana zero or sekiro kind of?
Shortcuts would also be good to have
I like Katana Zero restart yes. I honestly wasn't as frustrated by failure during the run simply because of how even the sound design was somewhat soothing. I just have that soft spot for VSH tapes rewinding tbh.
Really is a shame that MGSV was never completed
It's a bummer yeah, but I suppose kind of with so many years passing I honesty feel like everyone is mostly over it.
Wait, am I missing a joke?
did someone say katana zero 👀
No, I just keep forgetting unfinished franchises always leave unhealed wounds.
And yes we did! Still waiting for that update on the story
MGSV was supposed to have a 3rd chapter
Thank you.
But it never got completed, and it released with only the 2 chapters
same!! honestly i love katana zero's story...........the way it left you feeling so satisfied and yet w so many questions? masterful
Thats also why the plot kinda just ends abruptly
Eli steals the Metal Gear Prototype, and .... thats it
Which given the future timeline just doesnt solve anything
The way it was supposed to go is that you were going to a lord of the flies inspired island
To chase after him
And the story would end there
But it was cut short, story left unfinished, and the rest is history
I can actually somewhat get Konamis decision there
Because the project was taking forever to be finished
Yeah. Definitely good stuff. And as much as can be said about MGS I still won't understand enough to get it. So I take it chapter 2 ended quite abruptly.
And yeah Konami is somewhat understandable, then again their focus wasn't really to bring art pieces, just video games that pay quite well.
Ill say this though
MGSV was the most well-optimised game I have ever played
Like, ignoring everything else, it was just a technological marvel
It ran smooth as butter on my old hunk of junk PC
I wish nier series learn that too...
Yeah kind of sad. It got released back in like what 2017 and still runs poorly on pc?
A fix got put out, right?
Also the Gunplay in mgsv is thick as hell
3rd party, not by the devs.
Its a last to play if only for the gadgets gun mechanics and vehicles
I think it did
Gosh I remember when I was a fool who used steam community tab
Turn-based stealth is also something I found to be quite a fun genre
And went over content. There were maybe too many MGSV gifs of some specfic tools or yeah the rocket hand.
Invisible Inc for example
Turn based stealth is kind of rare or under marketed
The one genre combination I was there was more of was Action Adventure RPG
And I mean proper adventure
With fun exploration
(If you want, any kill X to win fire emblem map could be turn based stealth)
That's not incorrect.
unovven, have you been checking out sable?
idk if it has action, but it looks like it'll have exploration for sure
Cant say I have
:(
I dont like the artstyle
It looks cool but its got that kind of artstyle Ive seen more games have recently
That just kinda hurts my eyes
Literally, I mean
aw
I'm having trouble identifying
.
i like it, looks like an old comic book
that's tariq!
@tardy anchor drew that

comic book as in the French ones right
whatd i draw?
What was the name of that artist again
oh! yes :>
so whos on first
(Yes, Moebius!)

Its something about how grainy it looks I think
I also couldnt play Obra Dinn for that reason
Gosh Celestes hair mixes with the phone's darker phone layout too well
Did I just say phone twice
You must be working at the redundancy department of redundancy
I swear I should stop sending messages too early before I actually see what I wrote.
Let the phone auto fills, its voice must be heard, it’s calls answered
Oh, I finally see it. That's his face.
I thought it was a top hat, or a candle.
I'm picking up World of Horror soon, it's got that same art direction
you should also keep an eye on aquamarine 👀
World of Horror is similiar
i backed it on kickstarter
But since its still, its less head-achy for me
if you like that art, that is
I thought world of horror is Japanese manga style- right it’s grainier than I remember
It is a lot like japanese manga tbh
At least older ones
And not surprised to see Junji Ito mentioned in the description
He is like the one-stop shop for horror in manga
World of horror is point and click and rpg battles
You walk and find clues for rituals to use so you survive your oncoming battle(s)
And your stamina is per turn, the combat is like a complex rock paper scissors
Im finally done with exams, so I can start working on my backlog
It has some procedurally generated elements
Starting with a bunch of Ys
Ys is my new favourite franchise that I wish I found earlier
It and Trails of Cold Steel
I loved Ys Origin, but I haven't played any more of them.
Give us TOCS 4 already
Ys Origin is quite unusual among Ys games
Since its more linear and less exploration-y
Still a good game
I'm down for exploration, but I'm also very okay with linear games if the combat and movement are good.
Yeah true
I just really love exploration
And its rare to find good exploration
Crosscode still did it the best
I need to see that in action, I'm not big on that art.
Of Crosscode you mean?
Yes.
That particular style.
Hm, that surprises me, but I guess everyone does like different things
I'm loving Dead Cells and 30XX (the sequel to 20XX) is in pixel.
Dead Cells is quite unusual in its Pixel Art, but I can see it
Anyway, even if you dont like the art, I think the game is still worth a shot
Yeah, I'll give it another looksie.
Its got nice combat, charming characters and story and amazing exploration and puzzles
But its also just my favourite game of 2018 so Im a bit biased
But I did also love the art, its got a certain old-school charm to it
I can also recommend Ys VIII
Its initial localisation was ... rough, to say the least
But its good now
Crosscode does have a free demo
Oh I didnt know that
Neat
Also the devs stream on twitch sometimes and theyre cool (and german)
It did win the German best indie game award badge
Anyway, just to briefly get back to Ys VIII initial localisation
There is an area that is called Archeozoic Chasm
Originally it was translated as "Archeozoic Big Hole"
..........
............
Yeah it caused a big outcry at the time
And they had to spend a lot of time and effort to fix it, in a big patch a while later
The memes generated by that must have been free publicity at least
Not good publicity in this case
The game also has my favourite trope in gaming "reusing the leitmotif of the title theme for the last level"
Wdym by that
The boss battle music is a remix of the menu screen music
Level music, boss music, either way
Not neccessarily a remix
But using the same few notes
Ill give the Ys VIII example
Music: Lacrimosa of DANA -Opening Ver.-
Composer: Yukihiro Jindo | Violin: Akiko Nagano

Album: Y...
Thats the main theme
Music: You'll See Out the End of the Tales
Composer: Hayato Sonoda (Falcom Sound Team jdk)
Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzFTGYa_evXi6iVzAPRg4_kkNphkGXG7c
Album: Ys VIII -Lacrimosa of DANA- Original Soundtrack
Platform: PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, PC & ...
This is the theme of the final level
Actaully
Let me link the right part
Same basic melody
Used for the final levels theme
Same notes, very different meanings
Good way of putting it, actually
The title theme has a sad, melancholy feel to it
The final theme instead turns it around and makes it into a track that gets you going
Honestly making music is so impressive to me, I wish I didnt have negative talent for it
Its not the tools really
I just cant seem to come up with a melody
I can essentially hear whats good
And I do have decent musical hearing
But somehow I cant unravel music into its basic form
It’s geographical I think?
Shapes
Distances
And then you layer the distances into shapes
I’m not good at music either so (though it seems to be a lack of practice in my case)
@blazing token Not a speedrun, but I once saw a mad lad complete the Path of Pain in less than 3 minutes without getting hit once.
With Sharp Shadow.
I beat it, and I was very proud of myself.
Haven't reached it yet on my keyboard playthrough, but I'm gonna try it then, too.
I saw the first section where you have to go up a staggered cliff and noped out of there
the sawblades of the White Palace still haunt my dreams
I don't blame you.

as well
over here.
