copper lark

hasty kernel

Because theyre programs, and programs of the same language have the same endings?

analog spear
#

I cant I don’t know anything about digimon

File extension is .mon

hasty kernel
#

Thats easy Syd

#

This is objectively the best Digimon

#

Gundramon

copper lark

ok but

look at her and tell me she isnt the best

hasty kernel

Does she have gun-knees?

I didnt think so

analog spear

Nope gun > birb

copper lark

yall wrong for this

analog spear

Guns are way cuter

hasty kernel

This is the actual best digimon

Look at it

copper lark

that just looks like

analog spear
#

Just look at xagryph

copper lark

it looks like a flying gatomon

hasty kernel
#

Eh, not really?

#

Its also more cuter in motion, because it can retract and extend its ears

Which is really cute

copper lark

oh the cactus one that mimi had

hasty kernel
#

Im also kinda mad still that the next digimon show is gonna be Adventure again

#

I just hope itll be good this time, unlike Tris second half

#

Like cmon, give us a Tamers continuation

faint panther
#

Tamers was too dark.

faint panther
#

It was so good but it was too dark.

hasty kernel
#

22 year old Matt

#

Idk, I thought it was just right with how dark it was

#

Maybe not so much for children

faint panther
#

They just made their shoulders broader and gave them actual necks.

thorn holly
#

idk who these people are but they're cute

hasty kernel
#

But Digimon has always had a pretty sinister vibe below it all

thorn holly
#

is this still digimon

hasty kernel
#

Stuck in another world, fending for survival

#

Yeah, thats 2 of the Adventure kids

faint panther
#

Oh yeah, give us a TV-14 (or even MA) Digimon Tamers sequel.

hasty kernel
#

As adults

#

I just want to see Jeri being happy

#

Poor girl had to endure so much

chilly briar
#

too dark? I haven't seen it

faint panther
#

It's heavily inspired by Lovecraft.

copper lark
#

OHHH MATT!!!

#

hasty kernel
#

That and the guy also made lain

#

Lets just say it involves PTSD and Survivor's guilt among other things

#

Its uh, pretty dark all things considered

thorn holly
#

im sorry we're still talking about digimon and lovecraft's involved?

chilly briar
#

sounds interesting

thorn holly
#

im so lost what even is this franchise

faint panther
#

Tamers.

hasty kernel
#

Tamers, third digimon show

#

Basically, most of the shows are seperate

#

Adventure and Adventure 02, the first two, are obviously linked

#

After that each takes place in a different world, with different people

#

Usually has a different gimmick too

tropic garden
#

i leave for like ten minutes,

hasty kernel
#

3 had cards, 4 was basically power Rangers Digimon, 5 had a human dude punching out god, 6 was basically Steven Universe fusion, 7 was very different

#

See, thats what happened to me, Ellis

faint panther
#

I only saw the entirety of 1-3, like 80% of 4, and none of anything after.

hasty kernel
#

I watched everything

#

Half of it in german, but the german dub is really really good

#

Actually, 5/7 in german

faint panther
#

I got halfway into Tri's first episode when the "Tai should have been killed six times over already," overpowered my suspension of disbelief.

hasty kernel
#

5/8 if we count Tri

tropic garden
hasty kernel
#

My personal rating would be Tamers > Appli Monsters > Adventure > 02 > Frontier = Savers > Tri >> Xros Wars

chilly briar
#

TIL who lovecraft is

hasty kernel
#

I really didnt like Xros Wars

#

You have never heard of him before?

chilly briar
#

never

hasty kernel
#

Interesting, I thought it was impossible to escape his name in movies/games for the last 5 or so years

faint panther
#

Like, really, the Kuwagamon misses him EVERY time?

hasty kernel
#

Anyway, writer of surreal horror stories

faint panther
#

Cosmic, not surreal.

hasty kernel
#

Dude himself was an irreedemable bastard

faint panther
#

Here, lemme ruin the rest of your afternoon.

hasty kernel

But his style has had a long-lasting influence since

faint panther
hasty kernel
#

Kam, thats from Digimon Tamers

tardy anchor
#

hasty kernel
#

Id say more but that would spoil stuff

#

Lets just say its really neat

chilly briar
#

cool but this article in 5 words or less

hasty kernel
#

Cthulhu, Necronomicon, horror, racist undertones

faint panther
#

Oh, wow, I did not know that Lovecraft was so awful.

hasty kernel
#

Hoo boy

chilly briar
#

yeesh

hasty kernel
#

Yeah he was sure something

faint panther
#

This is... Wow.

thorn holly
#

e

hasty kernel
#

His best stories are the ones that arent informed by his bigotry

thorn holly
#

lovecraft was wack

hasty kernel
#

But really, most of the good lovecraftian stuff came from other people

thorn holly
#

almost all of them are bigoted tho

hasty kernel
#

He was, yeah

faint panther
#

My most in-depth experience with Lovecraft was through Bloodborne.

tropic garden
#

there have been several decades for his better ideas to be distilled through less bigoted writers lol

hasty kernel
#

Yup

faint panther
#

I've always wanted to read his stuff since I loved Bloodborne so much, but I think now I'll look for some of those writers Ellis mentioned.

hasty kernel
#

Again, there are stories of his that are good, because they arent inspired by bigotry

#

But yes, there are better stories from other writers

faint panther
#

Oh, Guillermo del Toro is making a Frankenstein adaptation starring Doug Jones (Abe Sapian, the fish in The Shape of Water) as the monster.

upbeat scroll
#

wow, this doug jones guy's been typecast

hasty kernel
#

Hm

faint panther
#

He does a lot of these roles. He was also the Pale Man in Pan's Labyrinth.

hasty kernel
#

Now that I think about it, Transistor could work quite well as a Digimon setting

#

And Im not good enough to draw that

Woe is me

Boring is not inherently good

Boring doesn't change the world

And the world needs change

hasty kernel

Perhaps, but I cant imagine how storming Area 51 (or rather attemping to) can change the world for the better

upbeat scroll
#

"They can't stop us all" is a powerful message

#

It's absurd and useless but it's collective action

hasty kernel
#

Therein lies the issue

#

They absolutely can in this context

upbeat scroll
#

Depends how many people show up...

hasty kernel
#

Its a US military facility

#

No matter how many people show up, they absolutely have the means to stop them

serene tulip
#

Honestly, if I were the US military I would have spent the last coupla months just emptying it of anything actually secret(because I'm pretty sure its not actually had anything interesting going on at it for decades) and then just give tours to folks who show up and let them see how incredibly uninteresting it is

upbeat scroll
#

Literally, they might be able to, but many many people will be filming, and mowing down unarmed civilians is a bad look

hasty kernel
#

First of all, that has unfortunately not stopped the US before (though it being american civilians might make a difference)

#

Second, they can just have barbed wire

arctic basalt
#

bad look yes, but there are literally signs up all over that area that state that lethal force is authorized so i sure hope nobody chances it

hasty kernel
#

Yeah

#

Id rather noone does anything

upbeat scroll

serene tulip

upbeat scroll

serene tulip

people have already gotten arrested

#

upbeat scroll

New homebrew spell: Channel Lightning
5th level evocation
Casting time: 1 reaction
Range: Self
Components: S,M (a length of fine electrum wire worth at least 25 gp, which must be worn twisted around a finger or limb)
Duration: concentration, up to 1 minute
Class: Druid, Sorcerer, Wizard
As a reaction when you take lightning damage you can become immune to lightning damage, including the triggering damage, until the start of your next turn. During this time, all lighting damage you would have taken is instead absorbed into your body, building up an unstable electrical charge. This charge is released the next time you hit a creature with a metal melee weapon, a creature hits you with a metal melee weapon, or a creature touches you in any way. You may also make a melee spell attack against a creature you can reach, releasing the charge on a hit. When the charge is released, the triggering creature takes lightning damage equal to the amount of damage absorbed by the spell, and the spell ends.

analog spear
#

interesting but it would be extremely easy to cheese if you had someone cast lightning bolt

#

you just stand in front of them and double the dmg of that spell for free while also becoming immune to lightning

#

(free action economy wise not spell slot wise)

#

like imagine the cheese if you just spammed lightning dmg into someone before a fight and then dealt 200 dmg or something with one spell

#

maybe if it was a lower slot and only worked for one instance of dmg

#

or it only granted resistance

olive junco
#

well preparing it like that would use up a lot of spell slots. Also, the immunity only lasts one turn, so you cant really spam multiple spells into someone unless you have multiple spellcasters or maybe a quickened spell. (the time period where you can absorb damage is much shorter than the period where you have an opportunity to deal it)

#

It would be tricky considering that nearby enemies would probably hear you casting the spells and come to ruin the fun. The spell only has 1 min duration, and you could loose the concentration.

#

Anyway that strategy would have its drawbacks but I guess you could do it. It would be like a paladin going nova: it uses up a lot of resources, but you can guarantee that guy will be fried to a crisp

analog spear
#

It says contraction up to 1 minute tho, that’s 10 turns

#

If it was just one it would be fine yea

#

Oh I think I get it now nvm

#

2 different durations

#

But like in general do some math with a party if 4 sorc standing in a line

#

And remember that you can chose to fail the dex save on thunder bolt

#

Takes only 6 seconds to charge 12 lighting bolt hits

#

Or 24 if twin spell

#

And then the enemies have no chance to makes dmg reducing save

#

Again I’m not trying to shoot down the idea, I think it’s cool, but the current implementation breaks the game hard

like, the mini USB goes on the tablet and USB goes to the PC?

that's rather weird to me, but I only use wacom so

Corporations have consistently lobbied for laws that reduce gov control over corps

serene tulip
#

Which is why this is a pipe dream hypothetical instead of an actual policy position

upbeat scroll
#

So we agree

serene tulip
#

to sit and collect dust on the same shelf as my profit margin tax and government by sortition

upbeat scroll
#

Nah sortition is cool

analog spear
#

We need to have someone lobby for banning lobbyists

upbeat scroll
#

Who lobbies the lobbiers

serene tulip
#

banning lobbyists just pushes the problem under the table

lavish anchor
#

I keep saying we need to find the remains of Teddy Roosevelt and reelect him to go a-trustbustin'

serene tulip
#

Instead what we should do is have all congress-critters installed with microphones and body cameras that are recording and archiving everything they do and say at all times

analog spear
#

I mean we would also need to look at the whole legal bribe system

#

Campaign donations

#

Unrealistic

#

Also us would need to prove it can safely store that data

serene tulip
#

More realistic than editing the constitution so that our entire legislative and executive branches are replaced by sortitioned committees

#

gotta have some perspective here šŸ˜›

analog spear
#

Sortition committees?

upbeat scroll
#

Who said anything about editing

serene tulip
#

fine

#

replacing

#

selected by lots

upbeat scroll
#

Let's just delete and start over heck ye ah

serene tulip
#

like jury duty but for legislation

upbeat scroll
#

Yeah that would work way better than the current system

serene tulip
#

It gets rid of the lobbying problem pretty handily šŸ˜„

analog spear
#

But would you do that for the exec branch as well?

upbeat scroll
#

Why not

serene tulip
#

Maybe the senate would select the executive branch

analog spear
#

I mean I’m all for reducing corruption but for some stuff I think it’s bad to just have random strangers off the street with little yo no expertise in the subject

serene tulip
#

Does it not work for juries?

upbeat scroll
#

It might not be the best system but I'd rather have the government be staffed with randos than people who know how to screw the system

analog spear
#

Jury’s are not economics

#

Or generals

serene tulip
#

Sure, but they aren't criminologists either

analog spear
#

But they know the laws

serene tulip
#

Did they before they were brought in?

analog spear
#

Um, yea

#

Hopefully

#

Also then you would need to have a training session for every legislative decision

serene tulip
#

Sounds like a plan to me

analog spear
#

On top of the fact that economics takes much longer to teach then just a few laws and prior cases

#

And, on top of that, in court the entire case is explained to the jury over a significant period of time by the lawyers

upbeat scroll
#

A million monkeys with a million voting booths would do less damage than senators who know how to use the system

analog spear
#

I just don’t think it’s logistically feasible

#

Like the sheer number of committees we would need

upbeat scroll
#

If it only works on a small scale do it on a small scale.

serene tulip
#

Well, we have what, a city government, a county government, a state government and a federal government, and each of those are composed of one or more governing bodies

analog spear
#

If you could get permanent committees of experts that are selected by lots it might work well

serene tulip
#

The idea is that the committees would seek out the experts for their opinions

#

as doing so would be their job for their term

upbeat scroll
#

could just put political education into public school curriculum

#

since everyone would need to be ready for it

analog spear
#

I mean we should probably do that anyway

#

Like who cares about the French Revolution, I need to learn how to vote

upbeat scroll
#

bad example

analog spear
#

No

upbeat scroll
#

the french revolution is actually very relevant

faint panther
#

Yeah.

analog spear
#

I learned it 3 times

#

3 years

faint panther
#

Good, that's different than hoofing it completely.

analog spear
#

Cut off one year

#

Also I would gladly sacrifice another year to cover the Russian revolution as well

upbeat scroll
#

the paris commune WORKED, it can be a good model for politics

analog spear
#

For all of how long?

upbeat scroll
#

until a big military beat it up

analog spear
#

No but how long was our sample size?

upbeat scroll
#

you're the history student

analog spear
#

No I’m the science student in a terribly optimized history curriculum

upbeat scroll
#

oh lmao

#

and yet you're advocating to add more political education to that?

analog spear
#

Yea it was France rev* 2 or 3, American rev *4

analog spear
#

I would gladly change the repeat subjects for political edu

upbeat scroll
#

history has a lot to do with politics

analog spear
#

Yea, I agree

#

But I don’t need to learn the same info for multiple years in a row

upbeat scroll
#

yeah it sounds like a bad curriculum

serene tulip
analog spear
#

Luckily I’m in college now so I can chose my classes

serene tulip
#

but yeah

#

that story is basically the "inspiration"

analog spear
#

For the lots based approach to politics?

serene tulip
#

yeh

How do you guys do it?

hasty kernel

You just have a judge who hands down the verdict I believe

analog spear
#

Hm

#

That deff seems simpler at least

north hamlet
#

i like the principle of the jury system, but in practice people can be pretty dumb

analog spear
#

I do like the idea of a jury

north hamlet
#

crime dramas have cursed us all

analog spear
#

In general people are dumb about most things not directly related to their livelihood

hasty kernel
#

I think the higher levels are a collection of judges

#

Like, the equivalent of state-level and federal-level I think its called?

#

Yeah the issue with juries is that people generally dont have much of a clue

#

And its in the best interest of both the defense and prosecution to select the most clueless

#

Well not select

#

Just take out the qualified ones

analog spear
#

Are German prison system as legendary as the American media makes them out to be?

hasty kernel

Here it’s being shown as a magic cure all for all of our issues with our prisons

(And oh boy are they a lot)

thorn holly
#

its less as a magic cure and more rehabilitation

hasty kernel
#

I mean theyre way better than your mess thats for sure but by european standards theyre pretty standard

analog spear
#

Mostly because here it of people who go to jail return after they get out

#

Just like our units

hasty kernel
#

Couple issues here and there, but rehabilitation has a decently high rate

north hamlet

it's definitely better than just punishing people and expecting them to figure everything out

#

i don't think that works in any area of life

#

that's like translating a translation

hasty kernel
#

Nvm, wrong angle

#

I could try again from that angle, but that means I spent 4 hours on a discarded drawing

north hamlet
#

that's how drawing works

#

and it is still practice

#

not to mention trying a bunch of different ways of doing it usually gets you better end results

upbeat scroll
#

Would you rather fight 1 buffalo sized beaver or 10 beaver sized buffaloes

north hamlet
#

one big beaver

sharp grail
#

you can reference from other art, especially if youre still learning and you dont trace over it

north hamlet
#

less stuff to keep track of

sharp grail
#

heck, that drawing i posted in self promo earlier? the entirety of it is referenced from a gk panel

north hamlet
#

referencing from art teaches you different things so there are times when you should

sharp grail
#

its a redraw of one

#

just dont claim it as your own

north hamlet
#

i do not think poses are one of those things

sharp grail
#

redrawing stuff and referencing bits and pieces can teach you a lot, we all referenced existing pieces when we were starting out

#

why not? how will you learn how to draw a pose if you dont reference it

north hamlet
#

i think you might do better studying a photo before looking at other art for a pose

#

or doing live sketching

#

effects and stylisation are probably easier to learn off other art though

analog spear
#

photos vs drawings make no difference tho

#

if you are just trying to get perspective right

north hamlet
#

not if the artist has made an error

#

or has exaggerated something

analog spear
#

well if it looks natural then it doesn't really matter

#

Its also unlikely you will replicate it exactly at least in my experience

#

you make small adjustments as you mimic it to make it look the best to you

north hamlet
#

i'm more concerned with accidentally referencing something that's not quite right and ending up with bad habits

#

if you're not getting the basic principles down right

#

basically i'm saying if you want to learn how to draw the pose look at reference photos and stuff, and if you want to learn modify or adapt it reference other art

copper lark

I need more jeans

#

and more underwear

wide ember
#

Like $60 fancy bamboo fiber underwear and designer jeans or moderate ones

serene tulip
#

I would be OK with some fancier jeans than what I have

wide ember
#

More durable than H&M, but less than Armani?

serene tulip
#

probably?

#

I'm checking out /r/rawdenim and they're like, "Only washed twice" and I'm like, "Do y'all not stink or somethin'?

wide ember
#

There is a trick called vodka plus water in spray bottle

#

Prefect for theatre wearables that are never washed in years of sweaty thespians wearing them

#

(Note: please never do that with personal wearables, it’s not sanitary at all)

serene tulip
#

but seriously

#

am I a stinky person if it feels like my jeans smell after two wearings?

wide ember
#

Maybe you are just not into your own smell

#

But personally I think all layers close to the body should be washed after one or two days

serene tulip
#

There's a store near me that seems to sell cool jeans

#

I'll go check them out

#

oh hey, they're actually really close

wide ember
#

hope you find something nice

HOW R U SMELLING TODAY?

#

anyone here watch Mr. Homeless videos?

#

is very good

#

made a satire about how to talk to gamer grills

#

very good

Snakes look like they should have feathers but somehow don’t

olive junco
#

interesting take

thorn holly
#

coatls!

#

i think thats what they're called

olive junco
#

COUATL!

thorn holly
#

feathered serpents

olive junco
#

the best

#

love them

thorn holly
#

like quetzalcoatl

#

yES

olive junco
#

they make nice friends in D&D

#

Eku un-petrified someone for us like 10 times in ToA

wide ember
#

They can turn humanoid... I suppose half-coatls must be common?

olive junco
#

nah

#

couatls are weird

#

they don't work like that

#

read from somewhere about them... I think it was one of the 4e monster manuals?

#

They only have children for a very specific purpose- to continue their work after they die

thorn holly
#

i mean

olive junco
#

Couatls are fascinating. They each have a specific task given to them by their god. They spend their entire lives doing that specific task, its basically all they care about.

thorn holly
#

homebrew coatl aasimar sounds really cool

olive junco
#

yeah

thorn holly
#

but also 5e aasimars imply coatald can be ancestors

olive junco
#

sounds like a character concept right there

thorn holly
#

i made a planetar aasimar cuz i saw a buff planetar and was like šŸ‘€ lmao

#

but also green skin cool

olive junco
#

But yeah couatls live to fulfill a specific task, like to protect a sacred sight or something. They also have the magical ability to foresee their own death.

#

So they know almost exactly when they will die, so they plan ahead to make sure someone is there to carry on their work.

wide ember
#

That sounds tragic

olive junco
#

very sad

wide ember
#

So they are basically mortal angels

olive junco
#

they are immortal

#

They are immortal

#

they just will eventually be killed

#

even if there is a 1/1000000000 chance of death on a single day, an immortal creature has infinite chances for something to go wrong

#

everything ends

wide ember
#

that sounds even sadder

#

It’s like being a lobster or something

#

They have detect evil and good as skill, so that plus predestined death means they should survive well enough before death

#

(they here being coatls, not lobsters)

olive junco
#

lobsters see the truth

#

lobsters are seers confirmed
