You unlock a skin and you can apply it at any time to armour of the same weight/weapons of the same type at the cost of transmutation stones (Which you get way too many of)

Dyes are similiar, but applying them is free

#

Which is good because lighting can totally mess with it

Pretty much all high rank armour can be dyed to some extent, but most of the layered armour is from arch tempered elder dragons or is hidden in an event quest reward

I've got like 300 hours and i only have 5 sets and some silly hats
