I have exactly two qualms with the movie and one of them is that there was not specifically my favorite Pokemon in it and the other is that there were maybe two moments where the acting wasn't perfect and aside from that I find no flaws with it. It delivered everything it promised, and hit the aesthetics completely out of the park even aside from just the Pokemon! When they showed the inside of the Pokemon lab I went "Wow, that's the inside of a Pokemon lab!" They were faithful to the ideals, aesthetics, and feel of the Pokemon franchise, and for that it is, at least in my opinion, the best video game movie that has ever been made.

The issue I'll bet most AAA games games have is the need to appeal to the most people at once to recoup the big monies (which sometimes also means expensive tech), unlike smaller games where money is better spent on finely crafted but niche experiences

I ... really like that they ultimately can't, and that the arc finales/the ultimate ending is kind of out of their control -- they/the player gets to choose how to react, but they're reacting, not the one at the wheel

I’m late to the conversation but i think that’s why DA2 can be so hit or miss for people in the fandom - Hawke’s story is one where things happen to them, not one where they make things happen, and that’s not a thing everyone likes when so many games put you firmly in control. Hawke is the kind of hero who is constantly losing and has to keep things together as best they can... about the only thing that goes right for them is getting the estate back and then becoming Champion when they kill the Arishok, and all that that does is sets them up for a greater fall when Kirkwall goes to hell
It’s a large departure from Origins, where the Warden could always (after Ostagar, at least) save the day in some respect
A good example is the trip into the Deep Roads at the end of Act 1 - no matter what you do, no matter which option you take, you’ll lose Bethany/Carver in some way
I’ve not really seen many games do the sense of “everything our protagonist has is crumbling around them and all you can do is try not to make it worse” and still come out the end of it feeling like a good game

I wasn't a fan of DA2, but not because of the kind of protagonist Hawke was. I just didn't find myself nearly as invested in the main cast, their stories, or what was going on around them. And I remember something about the gameplay turning me off, too, though the specifics escape me because that was so long ago and I've slept since then.

Yeah, @ionic viper -- I really liked that about DA2, though I understand why it turned some people off. I've never liked video games that make the whole world and every supporting character's life revolve around the PC

There's a couple of things that I dislike about the gameplay in DA2 - the repeating maps, the waves of enemies, and the fact that an archery-specced Hakwe is jsut flat-out worse than two of their companions - but I enjoyed the story
