As far as the “lazy player” fallacy goes, XCOM2 actually had the opposite problem. The game made some changes to encourage aggressive moves, and in doing so, drastically increased the difficulty from EU/W. Many players where complaining that the game was “too rng based” which is the XCOM equivalent of “its too hard and I can’t adapt”. The one of the lead devs said that his biggest regret was not creating one or 2 “fake” difficulty levels below easy, because they found that many people refused to chose the lowest setting out of pride, even if they would have had more fun and still been challenged

It’s an amazing game that makes a few pore game design choices early on

And because it is meant to be a hard game, people will defend this choice by saying that if you want a game to hold your hand, play something else
When In reality, it’s the games fault for allowing a player to miss a critical item

i've seen people complain even about the granular difficulty options in celeste, which is wild
it even affects how i play games on a subconcious level tbh. like i'll find myself picking normal over easy just because of that stigma--which definitely is worse when you're a gamer from an underrepresented gender in gaming in my experience

I hope that SuperGiant games strongly reconsiders doing business with the Epic Games Store until this malware-like activity concern is properly solved.
Epic Games Launcher has proven to commit malware-like activity and illegally obtain confidential Steam info without disclosure/consent of the end-user. This happens once the Epic Games Launcher is installed and BEFORE any attempt to 'link Steam Friends' via the GUI itself. Even after doing the link, the file itself is NOT accessed again. They grab all the info they want the first time.
Specifically, the file is 'localconfig.vdf' in the Steam directory. You can open this file up in a text editor. It contains your Steam friends, games owned/played, and other highly-personal data that isn't usually disclosed to 3rd-party companies.
I do feel that Epic Games is being owned/run by Tencent (let's be real with how much influence they have in China; got the Epic CEO by the short-hairs) and this is only one of many malware-like activities that the launcher has done and I believe Tencent may attempt to do even worse in the future (based on their stained history with online gaming and numerous Steam reviews/complaints by Chinese players).
I do not feel it is in the best interest of SuperGiant games to associate themselves with a company and games store/launcher that feels this violation of consumer/user privacy is acceptable (not to mention a violation of GDPR and dozens of USA laws regarding malware activity). I strongly urge SuperGiant games to consider revoking their Early Access on the Epic Games Store and instead do it on Steam/GoG/Humble/etc. There are many opportunities to do things in a way that doesn't treat users like garbage. The customers are the reason SuperGiant Games still exists. No amount of money/bribery should take that trust away. Be better than the other devs who have sold their soul to the devil in Tencent; after all a company based in China doesn't need to care about following laws in other countries if they exploit a company like Epic Games to do it instead.
That is an attempt to hide what they did and also grab it before Steam realizes the data breach.
I'm not sure Epic even knew what they wanted to do with that file yet, but they knew that they wanted to grab it while it was available in clear text.
Why bother making a copy of that file??? (which contains all your friends, every game you own, when you last played, etc) I suspect they didn't want access it more than once for fear of getting caught which they now are.
Also, hopefully Steam will properly encrypt this file to keep other nefarious companies from accessing this data.
Further info: The timestamp of the stolen copy of localconfig.vdf ( C:\ProgramData\Epic\SocialBackup\ *.bak ) is 1 minute after the timestamp of C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\ so this information is taken right at launch, possibly even during install.```Even those who aren't tech-saavy can go check the timestamps of the relevant files in their respective directories and confirm this information for themselves.
Regarding 'friends import' PR response by Epic Games:
I just went through the whole procedure of linking Steam to Epic via the Epic launcher so it can add friends and guess what, it didn't access that file once.
Their entire justification of copying the file in their press response is for the friends functionality.
And yet it isn't used during linking to Friends.
I use Procmon a lot, I set a filter for that file and confirmed when I accessed the file through command prompt that the access showed up, so I know it didn't miss the access.```Procmon = Process Monitor, an official Microsoft-approved utility for analyzing processes in Windows and other programs to determine file/network access.

I've been enjoying my time in FF14-- kinda. I have issues with it... I've hated the combat since 1.0 because I'm unfortunately a Legacy player who was spoiled by games like PSU and Tera. It's questing system obviously pales in comparison to TSW's (because EVERY MMORPG's questing system pales in comparison to TSW's). And the story, while better than others, still has a handful of annoying characters and contrived nonsense.
But I enjoy the world and the overall style of the game. That and I'm a roleplayer, so I get a lot more out of my time/experience than someome who just grinds their gear, raids, and flutters elsewhere.
My guild's main game of choice used to be GW2, but the content trickles in so slowly and/or inconsistently that it's just not sustainable for us.
Some of us still play the new updates when they launch, but those are quickly completed and then there's nothing else to do, so we leave.

But that's besides the point -- I'm not a fan of childlike animations/voices being given to a race meant to be taken seriously. Asura act like the adult braniacs they are. They're delightfully weird and neurotic.
Meanwhile Lalafell are over here rocking from side to side, waddling, and squealing like toddlers and whatnot... And for a period of time, we had two as major villains. It's like... This looks like a potato child with a moustache... Even if I think of it from the perspective of an in-universe character, it's not intimidating.
