I have some significant responsibilities but, I don't like what this event has become in the past 2-3 years.
It's very nepotistic in nature. Quite a few members of staff this year are using the event as a career launch pad. I really dislike people who try to pretend they're a big deal. And there's quite a few things that don't work all that well.
I think it was last year I needed to scold a lead member on staff, because some attendees had issues with the scheduling, so they complained to admin, I think their complaints were reasonable. The staff member went in the back and started calling them a bunch of homophobic slurs. I have no problem with being edgy but come on

so the next session, I handed everyone's sheets out to them
and they were not what they had been accustomed to seeing

their abilities are incredibly diminished - what were once battle-shifting spells are now essentially cantrips
and their familiars, equipment, etc. is all gone
I started the session with "so, to recap, last week the student council stated they were going to try to shut down the paranormal activities club. This session starts the following morning, as you're all running to school. Roll to see if you have toast in your mouth."

I refused to answer any questions about what had happened, notifying them that we had always been playing high school life simulator and not any other game
they decided to go along with it fairly quickly
and passed through the school day in essentially normal fashion - mild slice of life hijinx aside
then the day looped
I used the exact same narration for everything, and (again) refused to acknowledge anything was out of the ordinary
as the players started pushing the boundaries of the mundane slice-of-life narrative, the narrative started pushing back
NPCs would disappear mid-conversation, hallways leading away from meaningless drama would get blocked off
and every so often, one of the player's familiars would briefly fly past a window, apparently trying to get their attention
eventually, the players realized that the entire game was directing them away from the school's boiler room - NPCs wouldn't answer questions about it, the Pcs would get roped into nonsense as soon as they tried to get to the basement, etc.
so at this point, the players started trying really hard to get to the boilers, knowing something was up
as they shoved past students and beat down doors, the school itself started trying the beat them back, shattering windows to injure them with broken glass and collapsing floors under them
then, eventually, the gunslinger player got fed up and used a legendary item they'd acquired about a month ago and been too scared to use - a bullet forged using devil magic

they found the room above the boiler room, chambered the round, and fired at the floor, creating a magic shockwave the blew all the windows out

To keep things relevant to this server, I think that this sort of idea was probably inspired by the spore level in Bastion, among other things
The realization that Rucks is no longer "on your side" makes that level really tense, or at least it did in my case

hate to be the wet blanket, but I think Bastion (and Transistor, to some extent) are very contained stories, and very careful in their worldbuilding at that, adding anything on top of that could make the world feel unnecessarily bloated

Currently catching up on Descender and Low. I'm really liking Rick Remender's worlds and his tragic characters. Like the Cormac McCarthy of Sci Fi, in comics.

Yeah, the reason I say it's similar to Supergiant's work is that it's about an outlandish concept, but focused on character stories within that concept. It also tells a highly structured story that is supposed to prompt questions rather than lay out a clear A->B->C plot
It's also a lot about ritual and repetition, which is a big Supergiant theme

Berserk is very particular. It retains that very 80-90ies feel to it, it's also one of the more brutal mangas in how it approaches certain subject matters, it doesn't get as close as the junji ito collection, but it does get fairly close at times. Some also have a problem with the sexism aspect of Berserk, which, I mean, this is the same manga where you have 10 other loaded, and somewhat difficult subjects next to that.

I would say another manga I would like to think about when thinking about Berserk that is probably as loaded in some respects would be oyasumi pun pun
If you decide to read that, don't think about it too much, you might have crippling depression for a few weeks
Two things I can definitely give Berserk is how interesting and somewhat grounded the relations and personalities of the characters are, they go through a lot of horrible things, and the way the author decides to develop some of them is interesting for sure. The other thing would be the art, the art is like none other. The art you have at the very beginning is really good, and then the more you go, the more amazing it gets. The amount of detail the author puts in some of the drawings is unreal.
I don't think any adaptation would ever pay proper tribute to the drawings.

Really late to the conversation but the things that were drew into Berserk were the themes. You have people struggling with purpose after losing everything, the greyness of morality and what actions could be considered justified if it meant peace, characters going through a crisis of fate in a world where only the inhumane and evil seem to happen, and the subject of whether or not the actions in your life come from you or are the product of greater forces out of your control.
Berserk also has one of my favorite characters in all of fiction, Guts. The protagonist that you see grew from an infant to a man and you see him change throughout in a very organic way.
But yeah, I have a very deep love for Berserk and could go on talking about it for hours.

You can also use a base class to have a generic menu and extend those, typings should then allow you to store any references to anything that extend that class

JavaScript ecosystem is a lot easier to deal with, however the typical node / npm ecosystem is a nightmare for different reasons if you ever have a package specific issue

i.e. a dependency that has a violation in NSP but is not maintained by yourself
had that at my work, since we have a major endpoint that gets millions of hits a day if we have something come up like a major security hole or something in a dependency then we kind have to fork it internally to patch it until fixed urgently or patch it via other means etc since the risk is simply too great to leave it and wait for maintainers to resolve.
(although usually if I fix something like that I'll make a PR for the maintainers to save time, although hasn't come up in a while)
