As much as I love Supergiant, Imma be straight with ya, I'm holding out on Hades till final release. Because come on, EA on a story-driven game? Early Access can work on plot-light rougelikes just fine (Slay the Spire comes to mind as a good example of consistent support and updating thorough the entire EA phase), but not on a story-driven game.

Now that I think about Hades actually

SGG mentions in FAQ that they are aiming at community interaction with EA on Hades. Alphadingo justifiably mentioned that greek mythology theme is a bit overused in videogames, so I'm guessing SGG won't be picking up as much new followers as it did with their completely original IPs - cause if you weren't heavily into SGG before this release, chances are, all you saw was just another indie game based on Greek mythology: not exactly a stand-out in the industry.
So what they're doing here is basically appealing to their core playerbase with community outreach. It can also probably be the sheer size of the new game planned - maybe they don't see it feasibly playtested with their own limited resources, so they went for community collaboration.

FWIW- I suggest not waiting for the game to arrive on steam. Steam takes a 30% cut from sales, epic only takes 12%, so it helps SGG to buy from epic instead.

Yeah, I agree, Steam is entrenched as the current go-to. Valve likes it that way 😄 Hopefully if Epic does well, Steam will lower their rake to match. Competition should be good for the consumer. As for reviews, I didn't typically look at Steam reviews anywho. Most I used it for was sorting games on the steam sales tracker database during the winter/summer sales.

there is no reason to not support hades imo, its fun, the epic launcher isn't overbearing or negative in any way (aside from having yet another launcher to contend with) early access for once seems like the absolute best way to go with releasing this game. I'm sure you will be able to pick it up on steam later for like 5 bucks or less anyways

one of my favorite games Hyper Light Drifter, none of the story is explicitly given to you, you have to piece it together yourself through what's in the surrounding environment and the tiny bits a couple of npc's give you throughout
