So I'm having really bad framerates in the game

#

Is this a common issue? I don't think the game is difficult to run?

It happened for me

I switched to watching wanderbots play it

Hmm interesting. I kinda braved through most of it. But now the game is getting more difficult and I it's hard to play when stutters happen.

Pyre doesn’t really depend on a GPU so much as a good CPU

#

Check the system requirements on Steam, there isn’t a GPU listed there

topaz onyx

Ok that makes a lot of sense.

Can you imagine Pyre 2, which focuses on the commonwealth side of making the plan, and the proper execution of it

that would be so amazing

could also be a whole different genre

Imagine that you can import your Pyre save, and then you will see that side of the story with each character you chose, joining your roster on the Commonwealth

trail folio
#

Someone posted recently on Reddit asking about possible Table Top RPG adaptations of Pyre. I'd like to dive into that conversation! But first, has this been discussed before/are there links or info I should be aware of?

#

I believe I have a method for modeling the Rites, which is obviously the challenging part. Mostly I wonder about # of players and GM (or not)

torn bolt
#

i think there's been a lot of talk, but i haven't seen too much in the way of actual concrete games you can playtest

#

i think @loud dagger was working on something at some point?

trail folio
#

I figured it had to have been at least tossed around before

#

IMO the key is to model the Rites using a mostly skill based system, not just rolling dice and hoping for luck

#

Some searching reveals it is a Blades hack!!!

#

amazing!

#

VERY interested in this! I am currently working on a Blades Hack which has been successfully kickstarted

mild falcon
#

In the original trailers for pyre, there were a lot of survival mechanics, where you had to gather food and supplies to make it to the rite on time. These were cut because they clashed with the rest of the mechanics, but they might be more fun and interesting in a ttrpg setting

trail folio
#

Definitely! I think the travel portion of the game will be fun and easy to model with existing TTRPG mechanics and could be expanded on

#

Particularly since you probly have 3 players controlling individual characters instead of a single player experience

I believe I have a method for modeling the Rites, which is obviously the challenging part. Mostly I wonder about # of players and GM (or not)
@trail folio i'm up for discussing this in depth

forest girder
#

GM is obviously the ArchJustice xd

trail folio
#

I agree that’s good framing/perspective for them. @woeful depot lemme make some coffee then I’d love to hear your thoughts

#

I think one of the cool things about a TTRPG version would be 3 players instead of 1, controlling their own characters

#

You could maybe have an expanded roster, but players tend to focus on one PC

woeful depot
#

I was thinking implementing something similar to a mana system that replenishes each turn(if its more of a turn based play) and you can choose to either pass or cast etcc and each expends some amount of mana

trail folio
#

Tokens to act as action points makes sense

#

You could then modify each classes use of tokens to model the heavy demons, fast humans etc

woeful depot
#

Yeah that sounds super cool

trail folio
#

I think along with that the game space itself could utilize simple zone movement

#

That way zones can be blocked, contested, flown over etc

#

There is a game called "Core Ball" which is the closest thing to a table top sports game (with a ball) that I can find. It is also more focused on skill based play as opposed to rolling dice and hoping for the best

#

Its very sci-fi themed, played in an asteroid field and probly has a lot of mechanics (like hacking) that we dont need

#

but IMO it could be stripped down and repurposed to function like Rites

#

it uses action tokens of various types, as you suggested

#

Im not sure how 3 players VS a GM might work, as Core Ball assumes player vs player competitive play

#

I guess you could design a Pyre TTRPG where each player manages their own caravan and roster, traveling to Rites and competing against each other.. but thats a very different experience

trail folio
#

This is just one approach. I have not seen @loud dagger FitD Hack yet, but I am very familiar with the system they are using. Forged in the Dark (FitD) is the Blades in the Dark system, which among other things features "player facing rolls". This means that the GM rarely rolls for the NPCs, the failed or mixed rolls made by the players generate NPC actions.

#

This solves the "who controls the other team?" issue, and also allows us to roll dice without feeling stupid. Like "I want to pass the ball to my team mate!" rolls a 2 "ahhh crap.."

#

Because in this case, rolling a failure doesnt mean you screwed up, it means the other team has used a special move on you to intercept the ball or some such thing

#

This system also already has nice gameplay loop and downtime actions which will nicely model the travel and exploration gameplay between Rites

"this is why it stays fantasy"

#

not because of the design

#

but because the sheer scale of it

#

doesnt work in the "less developed" look of fantasy world

#

like are you gonna commit tree genocide since woods are typically thick and narrow

#

how are you gonna traverse in a supposed mobile vehicle with it

#

and sure you can handwave some stuffs like the forest will open a path for you

#

but sometimes i want something a lil grounded

#

@small aspen the common room feels so tight and im thinking how do they fit people in there

#

do they just sit in the room?

#

generally feels only capable to fill like at best 3 people

small aspen
#

or stand at the walls maybe

#

it would fit like 3 comfortably

#

they might do other stuff outside after parking the wagon

tender loom
#

do note that we have like 7 characters in this wagon

#

and maybe an exception to bird mom since she could fly

small aspen
#

you could pack that many in but it would be a bit uncomfortable

#

seems like they don't usually all gather in there

tender loom
#

but hey jodariel is basically equal to 2 people due to her sheer size

#

yeah but they still have to traverse places though especially in seas where nowhere can it be parked

unless some characters are on foot

but we dont see that

small aspen

we also don't see how big the sleeping quarters are

The audio keeps going, and actually keeps responding as if everything's normal. But visually, it's frozen. Every now and then, it just stops responding at all, too. #

... Actually, my request is mostly in regards to the Beyonders.

mild falcon
stoic junco
#

I am slowly running a chat RPG in the world of Pyre with us cast as members of The Awakened, the hidden triumvirate that was meant to fix the errors of the Rites if any were to come.

#

We try to stick to canon in many a place ||(hence we could use a tenth wagon, since it was used by Oralech)||.

#

And to that effect, our setting is set some number of years before Pyre (I cannot recall the exact time).

#

So most of the triumvirates can have different members.

#

Yet the Beyonders are rather specific, and I would love to use some canon names for the one-time opponents in the spreadsheet.

mild falcon
#

Sounds like a cool setting

stoic junco
#

It is.

#

Unfortunately, we are a tight bunch (4 people), and some answers are taking a long time.

#

We began somewhere around two years ago, and only recently have we begun the actual first training Rite.

#

Finally can test out the system.

#

It basically boils down to the dice roll against an opponent's stat, akin to FATE Core system.

#

I tried doing the grid system, but quickly dismissed it: it was too clunky.

#

Also, the link contains no names for the Beyonders.

#

I had to revamp stats to make it somewhat workable and upgradeable, but it probably requires testing.

midnight hawk
#

you could always make up names. the sandra trials have all 3 members' names iirc

stoic junco
#

I think you can only get the other Beholder's names via Practice Rites.

#

And it's not as if I would use these names for long.

#

I probably won't use them in the campaign ever again.

#

They will take their glorious position in a spreadsheet and sit there.

#

I just want to go an extra mile.

And Oralech was not considered in calculations, because his Presence and Hope (all taken from Versus mode, btw) were too extreme to fit neatly.

mild falcon

I'm loving all the Pyre streams today

Pity I missed Cait's tho...

she'll be streaming it again next week ^_^

That was enjoyable, definitely need to play through the whole thing!

sage river
#

Hehe so good u got the pyre tag

stoic junco
#

Don't forget to save full stream videos as highlights so that they may never disappear from Twitch.

upbeat sage
#

otherwise they dissapear in 2 weeks?

stoic junco
#

Yeah

#

2 months have passed since I last tried to stream RimWorld (never again: it slows down to a crawl). All the records are gone, but the highlights of the entire stream are still there.

upbeat sage
#

twitch highlights are good like that, probably should have highlighted my own first playthrough of pyre 3 years ago now, but I was incredibly new to twitch streaming then

#

another option is downloading the vod if you have the space for it (or local recording if your pc can handle it)

stoic junco
#

But since I don't, I learned the Highlight way.

#

Also. I am not sure if anyone really wanted this, but I made a 1 hour extension of Dirty Deal with random Ron noises in the background. Along with some random phrases thrown in at random points.

haughty saffron
#

I'm not mad enough listening to this for the full hour, but it's interesting.

stoic junco
#

It does indeed have some random phrases in between his usual grunting.

#

But if you are not in the mood to listen to the whole thing (understandably so), you can just skip to the end.

#

I tried getting the most "ending" of his voicelines. Which, surprisingly, was harder than I thought it would be.

Haha I don't know if people want a record of my terrible voice acting preserved 😂

trying to remote play pyre with a buddy but i cant get pyre to launch while in steam beta mode? is this a thing others have run into?

strong maple

It’s been 3 years since pyre came out

Damn

I feel like it’s just a year at the most I was hyped for the preorder

Happy Birthday Pyre! I just finished the game for the first time last Sunday before starting Hades. gilmanlove

sharp rivet
#

Whoa, a very happy birthday to Pyre! I love this game with all my heart, and I remember getting my figure of Red pre-launch and just staring at the little poster for Pyre that came with her for a while. This game still means so much to me thinking back on it, so I want to give a huge thanks to Supergiant for it and all their other wonderful creations.

cobalt pivot
#

Just started playing Pyre, immediately on the higher difficulty (but not highest, locked). As far as I understand, it's part of the experience to lose some of the pyres, is it right? Those dang withdrawn witches got me good

small aspen
#

it is normal to lose rites, even on normal difficulty

#

and the game is designed not to be unplayable if you lose

timid silo
#

I feel you from the same match on the highest difficulty! tizozzz

vestal bluff
#

No shame losing to the Withdrawn, they’re probably the hardest AI team to face off against

#

And it is definitely part of the experience of this game that you lose a few matches

#

You’ll see later on that overcoming loss a big part of the story’s theme too

cobalt pivot
#

Thanks y'all tizomg can't wait to turn it on again later, it has amazing atmosphere

timid silo
#

It feels like a difficulty spike to make players understand just that. ...of course then there are the stubborn players who get the opposite lesson 😂

#

I'm mostly practicing for multiplayer anyway so all practice above my skill level is good practice 🤷‍♀️ (said the fox to the grapes)

grim tusk
#

I found it pretty easy to not lose rites on normal mode though

#

I only lost the ||3 harpy|| one

iron flax
#

almost lost against the ||wyrms|| Zesty boys

lime mural

Turned on Yslach as soon as it was available, only lost against ||the true Nightwings||, then I chumped out and turned it off for the very last Rite.

timid silo

That rite's a crash course in how to ||demon||

stoic junco
#

The final Rite on highest difficulty is insane.

timid silo
#

My power move would be to win all rites and then throw the final one since I'm sending up Oralech anyway, but in order to do that, I need to... win the ones before it. Hm.

muted pebble
#

I always fight Oralech with all titan stars mostly because it at least gives me the feeling that I won fair and square

pure merlin

Last fight was the only fight I used all stars on

Lasted maybe 30 minutes

Was INTENSE

vestal bluff

I usually just keep all my serums just for that match and it becomes one of the easiest, even with all the Titans

pure merlin
#

oh heck, now that you've mentioned it

i don't think I've ever used any of my serums

probably haven't used my stardust either

i hoarded them so hard I forgot they existed lmao

stoic junco

Please stop. I personally think that Rukey looks much more trusting and fresh without his moustache. But I acknowledge that it gives him a unique charm (and also, when will you ever see a moustached dog again?).

I do hope that this debate is in the same vein as "How do we call the Moon-touched Girl?".

Pretty much same here, I think he looks better shaved but otoh the 'stache makes him stand out so 🤷‍♀️

he looks too much dog and not enough people without the mustache

tall lantern
#

How similar is pyre to hades?

jagged pebble
#

gameplay
nothing at all in common

#

dialoge
both are pretty amazing and well thought out

tall lantern
#

could someone be willing to explain the differences?

jagged pebble
#

pyre is like a sports game combined with rpg leveling up system
Hades is more combat focus rouge-like

stray jolt
#

pyre's dialogue directly influenced hades's dialogue system

#

"A dystopian, half fantasy VN, half 3v3 sportsball game that explores religion, government, and the true meaning of freedom through a branching character-centric story."

spiral osprey
#

they're different in basically every way except for some supergiant standard attack/movement types, and the way dialogue works + how you build relationships with other characters

#

Pyre isn't even isometric shadeohboy

stray jolt
#

bow's power shot came from this game, i think

spiral osprey
#

I thought there were power shots in Bastion?

jagged pebble
#

yea

#

i was hoping i was going to be able to throw the sword as well like in bastion

#

but i believe the animation for zag going down the || chaos holes|| is from pyre

stray jolt
#

could someone be willing to explain the differences?
it'd be easier to explain the similarities lol

#

pyre's use of a large cast of characters influenced hades's story

#

aside from that, it's nothing like sgg's other games in terms of gameplay

#

(also, caitlyn is currently streaming Pyre!)

jagged pebble
#

oh worm

tall lantern
#

how punishing is dying

stray jolt
#

none

jagged pebble
#

there is no fail state in pyre

stray jolt
#

^

tall lantern
#

how so

stray jolt
#

the game continues regardless, win or lose

jagged pebble
#

yea

#

and you have deal with the consequences of losing

stray jolt
#

the main gameplay is sportsball matches, there's no overt violence

tall lantern
#

well thats what I meant xD

stray jolt
#

if you lose the match, you deal with it and move on with the story

spiral osprey
#

Characters react to the loss and it affects things down the road

tall lantern
#

what about the replayability once you win the game

stray jolt
#

it's a branching story based on what matches you decide to pick

tall lantern
#

so technically you never finish?

stray jolt
#

depending on who you challenge, and whether you win or lose, the events that happen to your characters change and their final ending changes

jagged pebble
#

theres a setting called true nightwings which makes the game more difficult

#

you get it after you finish

tall lantern
#

like the pact of punishment of some sort?

jagged pebble
#

yea exactly

stray jolt
#

"branching" in terms of character arcs, the main story stays the same (but with surprisingly different events, depending on what's happened before)

#

although half the game is sportsball, the other half is visual novel, so be prepared to read a lot

tall lantern
#

thats what im looking for

#

not really the sport part

#

xD

#

thats why i asked if i lost

#

cause im not really interested in the matches

stray jolt
#

it's very hard to explain, tbf

#

if you aren't interested, you can set it to easy, but i'm not kidding when i say it's half the game

jagged pebble
#

yea

stray jolt
#

if you want a taste, caitlin is streaming it rn

timid silo

Barker/Sandra/Iggy SHOULD be a team omg

What led you to think that, though?

Anybody have tips for true nightwing mode? Been getting wreckt which is nice narratively (never played the story with multiple losses) but it is somewhat frustrating to play varying lengths of “Sorry you lost, check the stars for your next whooping!”

what’s your usual load out with tailsmans and characters

twin pecan

So far I’ve been trying Jodariel/Fae/and a rotating third

Talismans are the ones from the scribe trials for Jo and Fae and then I think I have a Rite Light in the mix

jagged pebble

get prayer beads stat splinter and webbed lanthorn whenever your able

timid silo
#

Consider your adversaries. I'm adopting wildly different strategies depending on whom I'm up against and even on the arena. Don't be shy with titan stars or you will lag behind experience-wise.

#

Rotating more also means more inspiration ie eventually more exp

vestal bluff
#

Coolguy’s got it. Those three talismans are pretty essential on TN

#

Your team should consist of someone who can jump-score, someone who can throw-score at range, and someone on defense

#

Then use each of those three items to make them even better at what they do

#

Vengeful Vow is also not to be underestimated on Gilman once he’s got Avanging Aid, so he can act like a second Lanthorn even if he can’t hit his opponent with a cast

tall lantern
#

Hey guys, I got the game yesterday, about to player later, any beginner tips I should be aware

#

Non spoiler if possible

midnight hawk
#

is ok to lose. the story progresses no matter what, so there's no game over.

#

it could affect the ending, but there's multiple endings and choices and none are really a "bad end" (iirc it's been a minute)

timid silo
#

If you do, however, want to win any given match for whatever reason, the pause screen of the matches includes a quick restart option.

#

Everything else, the game explains well enough by itself, I think!

#

Big spoiler opinion: ||I think all topside vs downside endings shake up well enough and are mostly up to personal preference. The peaceful vs non peaceful axis however is another thing altogether... In particular the bloodiest ending is... a massacre and weighs on people's consciences, so that for me is a bad ending...||

tall lantern
#

I'm just looking for replayability, someone said yesterday there's something like the pact of punishment from hades

timid silo
#

Replayability is definitely a thing

#

Also multiplayer

tall lantern

If only was online 😫

#

None of my homies have a controller, and im guessing they need one for local coop

Thats how most local coop work

timid silo

It's on Steam Whatsitcalled Play, so you can invite any of your Steam friends to play with you!

tall lantern

#

But they will need a controller right?

timid silo

For that I'll defer to the people who set up the weekly multiplayer matches!

tall lantern

small aspen

I find that only the host needs a controller for remote play

#

It usually defaults to keyboard and mouse for guests

tall lantern

I dont have one either 😫 🤣

small aspen

Haven't tried adding more keyboards but that might work too?

tall lantern

Would that work with remoteplay?

vestal bluff
