Imp was tizo
the nomad was hedwyn?
No
Oh was tizo not there?
i like to think of them as a lil family :'')
noonono the one you fight present day
when oralech is all demony and hello false nightwing shadow
Oh new true nightwings
the rest of his trium
Not old true nightwings or new nightwings
I have so much pure trash talk saved up for friends
“Better exile me because that was a HARD READ”
“Im on fire, more specifically, yours!”
hahaha
maybe gareph and iqsa shouldve gotten characterization
“Stand aside, I have the rite of way”
omg
what kind of people follow some double demon into a weird revenge quest that definitely breaks the rules, for no reward
the gays
?
oralech at the bottom of the mountain: >:(((
these two: ive only known oralech for one hour but if anything....else, happened to him, id banish everyone on this mountain and myself
no dun banish celeste
volfred: has a mind conversation with oralech that convinces him of the truth
gareph: ????
iqsa, who can hear the conversation: ???????
i vaguely remember some theories floating around that they were on a pilgramage and stuck by him bc they were reminded of soliam murr
HGFVHFHFHJFHJ
dude can someone tell me how to even get info on the groops
like
what button u press
before a rite, you can check on the other team!
Also their names are in the versus mode, I believe
i think it only unlocks after first lib
oooh
or I might be wrong lmao
there's no gareph in versus mode :(
oralech, after having a loooong talk w volf: its okay, guys, we're cool now
iq'sa and gareph, who have heard ranting and raving about VOLFRED SANDALWOOD, DAMN HIM for months: idk.....
the other main characters are in vs mode, but the unfaced ones are only in story
did is'qa and gareph get released?
u sure about that, buddy?
i dont remember yeeting them out
I meant that as oralechs team not @ kam lol
nah they dont have a part in the liberation
gfcghdcghdcgh
ali about to whip out iqsa playable dlc
wha really
I did it. I patched the game
oralech has to physically hold gareph back to stop him from tackling volfred off the cliff
litterally its the situation of like. hearing all the nasty things abt someones ex and then "oh we're back together"
ORALECH MAY FORGIVE YOU, BUT WE WILL NEVER
the little subtle eye twitch
ghfvhgfghdgh
lol
after the end, when oralech gets freed, gareph and iqsa start asking questions of the fake nightwings. they have a little chat over some gutter crab.
lol
gareph is like "upon reflection, perhaps not all of what oralech told me was accurate"
hedwyn: i can make these two things or the stuff ive been making
me: no dont try anything new it might be pOiSoNoUs
dont want to make a bad first impression with the people who have been taught for the past month or so to hate you
lol
(also, given the whole "people change their name when they get demoned", does that mean gareph's original name was gary)
no jodi's name was the same i think bc even hedwyn called her that & he knew her before demonized
HJFVHJFJ MAYBE??
hold on its bugging me now im trying to find out what the name actually is
yeah i was right its gareph
gary the demon, no wonder he changed it
https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/569834211343859712/637132184917901322/HNFVHJFHJ.png?width=800&height=82 ok when i was checking his name i found this and like. i was right
omggg
oralech walks into the blackwagon to talk with the reader: wow i really hate it when people conspire against me to throw me off a mountain 😔
.>
I’m playing an inspiring leader paladin in a dnd 5e campaign, and I named them hedwyn
Lmao
tariq the aasimar bard
takes ritual caster feat to get Find Familiar, names it ti'zo
ooohhhh
and you could probably get an imp for it
Ommmg thats amazing
sandra is aWESOME
I really wish they had managed to dub all the characters in this, honestly
Hades does it and it's extremely satisfying
i actually really like the language
Yeah, I agree it sounds nice
i want to learn it but i need a file for yhat
But it's not nearly the same
I think the Minstrel speaks something latin-adjacent
tbh i prefer having the language like that bc when they speak english, it really forces you to make that their voice, but when it's kinda filtered gibberish, you still have a little bit of leeway
Sahrian is a relatively completely constructed con-lang, iirc
the spoken phrases don't match 100% with what's in the dialogue boxes but they are intended to be actual phrases with meaning
someone here made a big dictionary, but its not in the pins fsr
i found a few phrases and official translations on reddit
i have it on the back of an unfinished fanart page
cool thx
Sandra the assassin rogue
Jodariel is clearly some kind of fighter
Hedwyn is either some kind of fighter or maybe a scout rogue
Jodi would make a good barbarian
ok imma spoiler under the censor ||jodi cant be a barbarian bc she was exiled for not wanting to kill baby harpies||
Barbarians have morals
Why can someone not be a barbarian because they won’t ||kill children||
because i dont think she's one for stealing eiter
That would be a rogue
weLL Te:Ll nEhH
It’s fine we were just talking about different things
XD
to me, barbarian and rogue are the same
Barbarians were just people who didn't cozy up to Ancient Greek/Rome. Jodi is classic Barbarian.
lol cool!
i mean, a barbarian was originally a non greek, so a foreigner. jodi's a native commonwealth citizen i thought
i don't think she goes ham enough for a barbarian, maybe a fighter?
you don't think jodi goes ham enough, she has a rug made out of the skin of all the howlers she's killed, right?
easy barb
Imposing figure belying a considerate personality? Skilled at violence but not wasteful about it?
Moon-Touched Girl is either a sorcerer because she's a savage, or a warlock because she's connected to THE SCRIBES IN ALL THEIR GLORY!!!...Sorry, my profile picture is Brighton for a reason. Anyways, Volfred is a wizard, Tariq is obviously a bard, Rukey's a rogue, Pamitha is a ranger because she has experience in the mountains where the harps live, and we can assume she's fought before, Jodariel is a barbarian, Hedwyn is a fighter, Bertrude is a warlock, Ti'zo is a druid because he comes from the Downside, so he would be connected to it or whatever, Sir Gilman would be a paladin, probably just inspired by Underking Ores and wanting to carry on his legacy, and Sandra would be a monk that specializes in stealth, considering she trains the Nightwings, and was originally part of a group of assassins sent to kill THE SCRIBES, WHO BOLDLY PREVAILED AGAINST THE TRAITOROUS WHELP!!!...I apologize for my Brighton side. Sandra is orb waifu.
sandra is orb waifu but rukey is better
I just realized something...WHY ARE THERE NO SANDRA EMOJIS?! WE NEED ORB WAIFU IN CHAT, DANG IT!!!
put it in #server-suggestions
Orb waifu?
I'd say this is my top 5
- Rukey
- Oralech
- Jodi
- Sandra
- Gilman
HOW DO I OBTAIN THESE MASTERPIECES?!
discord nitro
...Fan server?
in the pins
soup
no, the one in the pins here is the rite club server - the fan server came before this shiny and official one
jdnfjfn soup.. I could dm you an invite if you’d like
Is soup the name of the server, or...Sorry, I'm relatively new to Discord.
lol
we call that server soup and this server newp.... I’m actually not sure entirely how soup started but newp is bc this one was the new supergiant server, so newpergiant
anyway it’s getting off topic so just lmk if you want an invite.
soupergiant
The bot on soup gave Sandra a waifu rating of 1/10. I am scared if this is how high artificial intelligence's standards for absolute perfection are. We are all doomed...
It gave Pamitha a 0/10. I have lost all faith in the human race to develop artificial intelligence. It will be the death of us. THE DEATH OF US, I SAY!!!
idk man, it gave gol golathanian 10/10, didn't it
the bot is soliam
it is
you know he doodled hearts around gol's name in the first draft of the book of rites
absolutely
and they had 'soliam golathanian' and 'sm + gg' inside of them
gol, reading this: "smile....good game. aw :))"
Ha'ub the Swallow: Kree-ki-koooo... (Ha'ub thought that before he could read and write, HE was the dumb one.)
canon
ha'ub's the only one who knows they both like each other + the full extent of all the romance novel nonsense that's been going on and he hates it
I really wish we had more info on the Scribes and their personalities. More specifically, their interactions with each other. I mean, what if Lu-Sclorian Hundred-Minds got along really well with Ha'ub the Swallow, thus the SCRIBES THEMSELVES ORDAINED THE COMPAINIONSHIP BETWEEN THAT WRETCHED SAP VOLFRED SANDALWOOD AND TI'ZO THE WISE?!?!?!...I need to change my profile picture. Brighton is starting to take over. Anyway, Reader, how about if Jomuer Many-Mane took a fleeting interest to Triesta Tithis, like when Rukey first meets Pamitha and oh my gosh it's happening agaTHE SCRRRRIBES ORDAINED IT TO BE SO, FOOLISH RRREADER!!!!
you change your profile picture but in the middle of the night brighton changes it back
your terrible roomate who starts typing on your computer midword
Bruh, I don't even have a rooYES, IT IS I, DEAR CITIZENS OF THE COMMONWEALTH! BUT YOU SHALL ADDRESS ME BY MY FORMAL TITLE, ARCHJUSTICE ANDROBELES IX, LEST YOU BE CAST INTO EXILE!!!What the Falcon Ron?!
HJFGJHFCHJF WHAT THE FALCON RON.....
(Idk what I'm doing anymore. This is my life now. I am no longer my own. I am myself and Archjustice Brighton Androbeles IX. I am cast into self-exile, like the brave Sir Gilman the Bold. Forever to keep the joke running for my own personal amusement to get me through my waking hours....UNTIL THE STARS ALIG-EVEN IN MY FREAKING SERIOUS ADDITIONS, I NEED HELP, MY GOD!!!) (Also, I'm tired, and it's quarter to 11 on the east coast. FAREWELL, EXILES!!!...Just...what he/I/I don't know at this point said...)
[aj voice] GOOD NIGHT
I introduced a friend to Pyre and she's gonna get it
also playing Pyre for the first time in a while is amazing
yass
Please tell me she hasn't been heavily spoiled. Or goes on this server. Like, does she know about the liberation limit, Oralech, Volfred being a Reader, the final choice, etc?
Because if she hasn't, then OH MY GOSH, I NEED UPDATES WHEN SHE FINDS STUFF OUT.
im with brighton jr
brighton jr huh.......brightiny.....
...I refuse to go by Brightiny. CORRECTION, WE REFUSE TO GO BY BRIGHTINY, FOOLISH WHELPS!!!
ok ur brighton jr then
brighteeny
NOOOOOOOOOOOO I'm with my fake alter-ego of an already established character here.
What are you anyways, exile? I cannot pinpoint your species. BE YOU BOG-CRONE, NOMAD, OR SAVAGE?! Just...roll with him/me here.
my species is toaster rukey-lover
...Exile, while I appreciate your attempt at humor and removal of the strange technology of your realm, I do not believe we have heard of the species of..."rukey lover"...:cough:captalization:cough: ...For someone who enforced the literacy ban, he/I apparently is/am a stickler for proper writing.
Happy, Brighton Jr.?
Btw, is it ever explained how Brighton communicates with the exiles? Like an orb, or magic, or what?
...Do not refer to me as Brighton Jr, exile. Lest The SCRIBES THEMSELVES STRIKE YOU DOW- Okay, Brighton, hush.
magic skype
brighton is a reader, and readers have telepathic powers
uM nO????
Wait, I thought Volfred was the Reader?
volfred's another reader
And im a reader
a Reader is anyone who's read the book of rites
the three readers we know of are brighton, volfred, and us
i thought a reader is a person who knows english
Brighton was the reader prior to Volfred.
Oh yeeeeeeeah, now I remember.
Wait, so how does he appear in the sky? And why didn't Volfred call the Reader from the beginning to meet up ASAP if their telepathic powers are that powerful?
WE NEED ANSWERS, SG!!!
The PC reader was barely starting out at the beginning of the game.
They were literate, but all the neat bonuses the Book of Rites provided weren't kicking in yet.
volfred is just cool
my headcanon is that being archjustice amplifies your reader telepathy
he's also been doing it for a long time
i think his star hat thing is the like, magic wifi router
IHYSUYDDDJHSD hAh
Btw, does anyone know how long the events of the game are based off of Volfred's planner? It's established that they have the equivalent of a Roman calendar (Obviously for ease of understanding for both the players and devs.), just with different names. And we can assume that the AS after the year means After Soliam, so how long does it take for the Rites to come to bear?...
wHeN tHe sTaRs aLiGn tHe rIgHtS wIlL cOmE tO bEaR
idk but i vaguely remember someone figuring out that the reader gets exiled on, like, a tuesday
?????
hOw
attention to detail magics
plus hasnt the reader been there for a sec before they're picked up
true....
technically, they get picked up on tuesday
ive always assumed they've been there for like a week or 2 when theyre found
I did pay attention to the dates after my second liberation rite. It was somewhere between 5-8 weeks, if I remember correctly.
how i was introduced to pyre
dad: im buying this for mom
Mom, playing it: this is too hard (on easy mode)
me: steals controller lemme show you how to play crystalized soccer
omg....u have cool parents then
Wait, how did your dad know about Pyre, why did he think your mom would like Pyre, and has your dad played Pyre since then?
I need to know if he ever shouts READER!!! to call you to dinner.
My dad was surfing the ps4 shop
thought it looked cool
thought mom would like it bc she likes stretegy stuffs
Your dad wasn't wrong 😮
i ended up getting addicted and now he calls me brighton whenever he wants me to shut up about sgg ^^"
I wish MY parents liked videogames...
my mom plays assasins creed greek
dad is call of duty
im sgg and a ton of weird random stuff
i am....so glad my parents dont like videogames tbh 😂
i wish my brother would play bastion tho i think he'd like it
i played bastion on no sweat mode bc i died so many times i cant even-
same...
My mom supports my love for indies (mostly she was very charmed by Journey and Unfinished Swan and now asks me about those tiny games I like) but lacks the most basic gaming literacy...
my mom looked over my shoulder playing hades once and freaked at how violent it was
She recently asked me to put some "game for the elderly" on her phone and for silly reasons I had bought Monument Valley 2 under her Google account, not mine, so instead of getting her some microtransactions-riddled Brain Training clone I just installed her Monument Valley 2...
i played abzu tho, that was awesome
I have to remind myself after the Fury and Hades fights that these are deathmatches. Just imagine Zagreus running Meg through, or Alecto cleaving you in two, or Hades burning you to a cinder with lasers.
watching her play is cute but it's really her VS the lack of the most basic gaming literacy. Sorry! Back to Pyre! So, Volfred-
VOLFRED! yes.
im not risking my life in off topic
last time i went in there i nearly threw up
volFRED

volfreedom
Always a good topic, Volfred. And lipstick thereof. (this is my envy speaking)
halloween time is prob the best to find some good volfred shades tbh
I'm getting bold with nail polish (still haven't found cool shades of green though. Frustrating) but I'll leave the bright green lipstick to him!
He has very pretty bark and I wanna know who exactly was responsible for branding him 😦
the brand looks cool
ooohhh volfred nails!!
Still a brand!! It looks cool on the Reader's cape etc but it's carved or burnt on him 😦
https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CQ_LVPfKK2E/W_-ASfJDLGI/AAAAAAAACZA/swiW-Nbuh84zmY-P1YIkVkroW051bWOCACLcBGAs/s1600/KL%2BPolish%2BCapricorn%2BZodiac%2BCollection.jpg something like this would be so nice...
yes!!
yeah 😔
buy it off amazon
must be an awful job to brand saps in general...
See, I was thinking that Bertrude helped with it.
Like how?
Standing on by with wet towels or something in case the brand ignites Volfred's skin.
i dont think she was there 😦
They've both been in the Downside for a while, right?
I always just assumed it was carved in instead of branded and that seemed painful enough.
It must've happened in the Commonwealth and Bertrude was exiled already!
it looks like it was carved rather than burnt
I imagine for more meaty races they brand though
Sorry, I didn't know how else to post it. Sorry for the wall of text, lol
doesnt work
getting a 403 error
wtF
...IT'S TRUE, OKAY?!
it's opposite day in that photo
HE'S BEEN MORE USEFUL IN TERMS OF OVERALL DEFENSIVE CAPABILITES AND THE RELIABILITY TO COME BACK AFTER BANISHED, OKAY?!
rukey has a double jump tho
be quiet brighton
yOU LIE
I'M NOT SAYING RUKEY IS BAD, BUT I FIND SIR GILMAN TO BE MORE USEFUL IN A LARGER ARRAY OF SITUATIONS. Don't get me wrong, Rukey is an offensive powerhouse. I just find Gilman more reliable rather than using a specialized exile like Rukey.
rukey is better than gilman
gilman is incredibly difficult to score with
rukey ends games
tbh the only time I used gilman and tizo is when I got stuck with them at the end of the game
except for my true nightwings all titans stars all liberations playthrough, in which I used them a lot at the start so I could get rid of them
That's why I equip Ores' Scale to increase Gilman's jump distance. Again, Rukey is amazing at what he does, but I find Gilman to be more flexible, especially on defense.
Gilman’s easier to block on offense
You also typically don’t want to use Ores’ Scale for him. Rather, give him Vengeful Vow
Combos well with Avenging Aid - if he does get hit, than he explodes ‘cause of the Vow, hopefully taking out the guy who hit him, and thereby resurrecting himself with Avenging Aid
https://imgur.com/c99B7ws HOLY CRAP IT'S HIM, YOU GUYS, HE'S HERE, OH GOD, OH CRAP, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
maybe the tattoo on his forehead says "damaged"
I just realized Oralech has his own layer of instruments on top of the music like all the other Nightwings, heavy drums and bass, like a mix of Jodariel and Volfred. And BY THE SCRIBES, THE MUSIC MAKES HIM EVEN MORE INTIMIDATING.
...20 Quickness, 40 Presence...WHAT?!
But one hope
the scribes had to nerf him
If you get banished with 0 hope, do you come back?
perfect
i dont get it ^^"
(this is a volfalech post)
no wonder i dont get it
i dont ship them like that
well, dont say that too loud
I only understand shipping characters who have canonic chemistry.
friendship is still a ship
Fair.
i guess canonically volfred is the reason that oralech gets up in the morning
or else it wouldnt be much of a revenge story
volfred: telepathic alarmclock
oralech: daMMIT
...Guys, it's getting worse. Brighton is in my dreams now, and I'm really worried, a-ARE YOU CARRYING WITH YOU THAT TRAITOR, VOLFRED SANDALWOOD, FOOLISH READER?! Guys, please send help. Or Oralech. He was a doctor. Or Pamitha. Or Sandra. Best girls. Yes, I can have two, fight me. But don- READER, JUST GO TO SLEEP ALREADY!!! We have much to discuss... ...Help...
bruh that huge block of text link gave me an error 403
I liberated Jodariel. Destroyed the Essence. But now I have to formulate a proper defensive strategy. Hopefully Volfred does the job. I considered Hedwyn, but his team buffs are so good, I just...man. The reality of the situation and the fact I'm gonna have to choose just kinda kicked in, I guess. I already liberated the two people who would be the happiest to remain, so now...dang...
A good offense is the best defense???
They can't win if you just deal more dps than they do
Dousing per second
I forget, did you lib tizo, maxducks?
Cause if you're missing jodi and tizo, you've got a lot less options to cover your turf
Yeah. The Rites are going fast, too, so since then, I've also liberated Rukey. So I'm down Rukey, Jodariel, Xae/MT Girl, and Ti'zo. I do have Voldred, though, and he's proven pretty useful. I use him for area denial, while the AI goes for the sapling, then I use Sir Gilman or Pamitha to rush in and score. And if that fails, I've speced Betrude into her Aura blast, but she still has great offense. Gilman is also much better at defense now that I've levelled him up, so I've speced in his slash, having him take out the enemy and using Ores' scale to jump farther so I can reliably score goals.
Also, I did NOT know about Oralech in the Blackwagon or the speech you make. Oh, we're just sailing on near the Hulk of Ores, going to knock the Accusers down a peg. Oh, crap, it's Oralech! Maybe we can work something out. Oh, he's gone. Oh well, I guess we'll see him la-why did the music stop? Why is the Blackwagon dark? WHY IS ORALECH HERE?!?!
Gilman's speed is really helpful with scoring too
Nobody expects the True Nightwings inquisition
Our chief weapon is fear! Fear and surprise! Our TWO chief weapons are fear and surprise and an almost fanatical respect for the Rites, our THREE chief weapons are fear, surprise, and an almost fanatical respect for the Rites, and the same raiments as you, OH, DANG!
tactics: wear the same rainments so you can't tell friend from foe
That goes both ways
yeah ik so it's a lose-lose XD
Okay, serious question: I'm facing off against the Withdrawn. Bertrude is suggesting that I invoke Y----h, Astral Born to give me an edge. What does it do, and should I invoke Y----h due to this effect? Mind you, I'm at the point where I only have four exiles left and there's only one rite between liberations, so I don't want to screw this up. (Also, updated list of exiles freed is, in order: Xae/MT Girl, Ti'zo, Jodariel, Rukey, and Hedwyn.)
i faced them with and did fine
but i was careful to keep the exiles i was good with
so ymmv
might not be worth doing if it's near the end of the game
plus Bertrude could get -5 hope permanently if you lose
...Yeah, I'll just leave it, then. (I've never lost a rite, but I've had some very close calls.)
id use pamitha gilman and volfred
Well...this is it. The final rite. I know what happens next. I know what choice I have to make. But now that I finally have to make it...wish me luck, guys.
(Sorry for acting dramatic, lol. I've just been waiting about two years to finally get to this moment.)
tWO YEARS
Yeah, I didn't have a PC or PS4 to play it on.
And now I'm finally finishing the game.
yasss
Although, I am gonna do a second playthrough on True Nightwing mode with all Titan Stars, but yeah. Besides, waiting two years has given me patience to wait two years for no Hades spoilers in the hopes it'll be released on Switch.
But yeah, gtg kick Orelech off the mountain again. Or...something like that. UNTIL THE STARS ALIGN!!!
nO DINT KICK MAH BOI
Please don't, he's a good boy who was just hurt real bad.

Do we know whether "Oralech" is his first or last name?
Since he's an MD, should we be calling him "Dr. Oralech" this whole time?
i think curs, harps, and saps are the only pyre races to have personal and family names?
TRU...
whO
🤔 maybe the tradition was abandoned?
hedwyn, lendel, erisa, etc are all just one names
or maybe the game creators just didnt bring to light the people's names
could be! tho in a game where some do have, its a statement not to, i think
In the Downside, one's past tends not to be a subject of discussion
pamitha theyn, volfred sandalwood, and rukey greentail are made distinct in bound together
A tooltip whilst talking to Volfred
that too
True, but that's only 'cause it was more important to call her "Captain Jodariel" than to say her last name, maybe
Unless that's her last name
but probs not, yeah
Hedwyn, who's last name is "The Deserter"???
Wait, that one's not in the song
i think it's more of a
'dont like my family'
'dont have family'
'not shaming my family'
'forgot my last name'
Ti'zo's last name is "The Wise" though
Nah, I'm just riffing off the other characters whose last names get said in Bound Together
lol
demons change their names
Oralech didn't
did jodi?
not sure!
tbh i think jodariel is a beautiful name
it is!!
Maybe her first name is Jodi and her last name is Jodariel - fits the mold of Gol Golathanian, if they were of the same ethnicity within Sahr/The Commonwealth
Maybe demons usually change their names, but oralech and jodi are an exceptions
jodi jodariel....
Makes sense then, for Hedwyn to call her Jodi, but for everyone else to call her Captain Jodariel
are you sure?
when they first call her Jodi, its highlighted
i put my cursor over it
and it just said 'Jodariel'
and showed her.
Only guessing
i mean, maybe it's a formality
None of this is canonical or anything
lol ik
just using f a c t s bc why not?
do demons change name again if they turn back to human after returning to commonwealth?
Ignarius keeps his name if he gets liberated
But that might just be convenient narration, since that's in the epilogue and the player doesn't know him by any other name
I shall now present the fates of each character in my playthrough. WARNING. SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Ignarius: Took some odd jobs in the Downside, as well as many lovers. Always wondered about Curly-Horns. Established a well-renowned reputation in the Downside.
Falcon Ron: After the Rites, he gave a messenger imp a trinket he couldn't sell. He was compensated with vast amounts of Saharian coins. He established a thriving business in conjunction with Bertrude, and their goods were delivered to Rukey's business.
Sir Deluge: After the rites, most exiles that remained fell into depression. However, Sir Deluge was relieved, as he didn't have any responsibilities to uphold. He was joined by Lady Seagrass, a fellow wyrm exile who had taken a liking to him for some odd reason, and they retreated to the Sea of Solis, which would explain the massive boom in wyrm populations of the area.
SIR DELUGE A PIMP, BOYS!!!
Almer and Dalbert: Their focus became survival after the Rites. However, they soon heard news of the fall of the Commonwealth. Dalbert died peacefully in his sleep a month later. Almer now respects his father's final wish to look to the teachings of the Scribes. Almer doesn't miss a single day to talk to his father, for he knows he is smiling down upon him in the next life.
almer got with Xae <3
I set Xae free in my playthrough. Sorry, no Xae and Almer kids 😦
why you set her free
she didnt like the commonwealth and they no like her ;;
she had such a great time in the downsideeeee
She was the first one I liberated, okay? I don't know why, but I did. I'll type what happens when I get to her, promise.
Lendel: Lendel refused to believe the rites were over. He constantly looked for signs the stars would return, to no avail. His fellow exiles left him, and he was never seen again. However, a certain demon wandering the Downside with Lendel's features suggest he may still be alive...
LENDEL TURNS INTO A DEMON
uSO
Manley Tinderstauf: Manley was outraged at the fact that he wouldn't be able to escape the Downside. He cursed the Scribes, and after his rage, developed many plans to escape through other means, including a pulley system, a boosted Blackwagon, and even just praying. His entire family's fortune was wasted, and he whined and complained for the rest of his days.
Udmildhe: After the cycle of the rites had ceased, Witch Udmildhe returned to the Flagging Hands region, where she sealed herself within the Pit of Milithe. There, even her fellow exiles of the Withdrawn allegedly grew unnerved after a time, and left her to her vile work. Sometime later, the Pit of Milithe burst into flames. So intense was the blaze that it could be seen from Jomuer Valley. Arson was suspected, but never confirmed. Many bog-dwellers were forced to leave the region. A storm eventually put the flames out. When at last the ashes settled, the site was burned beyond all recognition, and Udmildhe was nowhere to be found. All of the profane remains of Y----h, Astral Born were missing, as well. Back in the Saharian Union, all threats of Y----h's return never came to fruition.
Barker: Barker missed the structure of the Rites, and never cared to return to the Commonwealth, anyway. He then unofficially began the Rites anew, bringing in exiles both old and new. He found great success and pride in his endeavors, and forgot all about his hostility to Rukey.
BARKER MADE THE RITES NFL
Anyways, I'll type the rest tomorrow. Gtg to bed.
i think they're all on the wiki
big brain
So... what do I do if I found a bug in Pyre? The F10 thing only works in Hades...
I mean, it isn't game-breaking or anything. Just thought I should let somebody know...
You can email Supergiant about it at their support email, I'd guess!
Or their regular contact email
Just put in the subject line that it's about a bug in Pyre
Major Brighton energy here

LMAOOO
Every two months or so I'm suddenly reminded of my intense love for volfred and tariq and go on a wild content binge for like 2 days to temper it
good character choices
I have the same but with Sandra. I have never loved a character as much as I love her...
Perhaps Tariq comes as a close second but otherwise, I love Sandra so much.
Like Sandra is the only character who I in my first playtthrough just kept trying to talk to. Spamming the Beyonder Crystal.
"LET ME TALK TO YOU PLEASE"
Sandra!!!
(I'm still amused by the potential for Sandra-Tariq interaction..)
Sandra is the best thing in this game, and I'm really happy that she gets a good ending with the Reader if you befriend her.
I think my heart stopped when it said "The Beyonder Crystal calls to you"
My heart-
lol
It got to the point where I was literally checking the Beyonder Crystal every time the Blackwagon moved or I did an action. Vocations? Check it. Before rite? Check it. After rite? Check it. Buy something from Falcon Ron. CHECK IT AGAIN, BECAUSE YOU BOTH NEED EACH OTHER NOW.
That's how I play any game with companions. Mass Effect especially.
YES
Absolutely that. All the time. Just kept checking, and when the option to speak to her was greyed out I was sad. I JUST WANT TO TALK TO HER, PLEASE.
I would have a ten-minute conversation with Garrus in the battery, talk to Chakwas to hand in a quest, and then immediately turn back towards the battery to see if anything was new.
Haven't played the Mass Effect trilogy yet, unfortunately. My dad was very strict about M rated games when I got the first one, and he made me return it when he saw the box said "partial nudity".
RIP
Didn't even get to boot it up.
Sandra is so precious it hurts. Like the game made me cry, but Sandra asking me to take her with me was-
Oh Goodnes..
"She could lull me to sleep"
Ah yes, I'll take "Falling in love with a fictional character" for 400 bucks thank you.

💚Always💚save💚orb💚wife💚
Biggests facts of life.
I used to check the character items every two seconds
Leave wagon and do N O T H I N G check it
I swear 90% of my time on the game was checking the items to see what they were doing XD
pamitha never really caught my interests
I usually hung with jodi rukey and tariq
I wanted to spent more time with Jodi but-
I always freed her first.
But I really liked Pamitha, I don't know. Maybe I just have a thing for sass, and being called "Dear / Darling Reader"
maybe thats what put me off XD
Also sister rivarly is always interesting
i like pamitha but her relationship w her sister was frustrating to me bc it's like. give her space! she needs time to cool off. her reaction makes sense in how it works w her character, and i do understand where she's coming from, but also damn girl give her a minute
Yeah it is infuriating. But I love it all the same. She just wants to what's right for her and not murder everyone in the Commonwealth.
It's so hard to do right by everyone.
Especially when you want everyone to be free. But hey-
Even if you stay behind, you get to spend the rest of your days with Orb Wife.
So it's a win in my book.
I made sure I stayed with Orb Wife.
The rest of it was pretty easy: I tried to do right by everyone who crossed my path, and anyone who tried to take advantage of that or who were out to get me from the outset I stepped on.
Beating Manley for the last time was incredibly satisfying.
Oh absolutely.
Manley getting the boot was a joy.
But like, I'm repeating myself already but..
Sandra is the best thing in Pyre, and I will die on this hill.
I wish taking Sandra to Commonwealth was possible
...isn't it? Well to the Union. Topside.
I kind of wished the Revolution could have included Sandra coming out of the orb and scaring the [data expunged] out of the corrupt nobles
Technically it is, right? If you take the Orb with you and free yourself at the last choice, then doesn't she come with you to the Topside?
Yes she does come with you, though she will stay in the orb
Well, the curse won't let her go out. But it warms my heart knowing the Reader probably spent the rest of their days with her.
Not forever
So she wasn't alone anymore.
My hc is she escapes someday thanks to reader
I mean, with the Rites now finished, it would be only reasonable for the Beyonder Orb to eventually start losing it's power to contain Sandra.
So it's not so unlikely.
But I'm too much of a fan of tragedy, so imagining Sandra as the tragic soul, blinded and trapped in the orb forever; with the only solace and respite being the Reader is something I do enjoy.
After all, Sandra is pseudo-immortal, and the Reader is not.
My hc is she'll never get out of that orb, but the magic binding her is fading so she can die not too long after the Reader
Maybe they’ll die together that way
Or do what the rest of the Beyonders did and fade away.
Or, can we put Reader inside the orb?
Yes, die as in fade away.
Mhm.
I like her tragic side. She is perhaps the most tragic character in the game, besides Oralech- but in a way if the Reader does right by her, she gets her happy ending.
She doesn't have to be alone and bored anymore.
As long as the Reader is alive, that is.
I prefer the Reader outside the orb. If the Reader is freed to the Union, they can take her away with their travels. Suitcase Orb wife.
And if the Reader decides to stay behind, well- they can still live out the rest of their days.
But that is one of the reasons why I like Sandra. She stays the tragic character. The Reader is not immortal, like her- so eventually she will be alone again, when the passing of the Reader comes. But if I recall, in the end some of her dialogue suggested something about her fading away too.. i can't remember. I have to check.
But in short-
Tragic Orb Wife Sandra is so amazing and well designed and written and- ah.
I just love her. Supergiant did an amazing job with Pyre. Whoever brainstormed Sandra, or what group did- I personally thank you for creating my new favourite character in fiction.
With all due respects to Oralech, Sandra runs circles around him when it comes to tragedy
6ish years angsting? Try 800+
And I think it is safe to assume that in those 800+ years, she had to be abandoned time and time again when new Readers came.
Wasn't Sandra the betrayer, though?
I thought she'd had all that time to come to terms with what she'd done and atone for it.
I thought the betrayer died
Nope, she was an assassin sent to kill Soliam
^
Erisa died when she tried to steal the spot in Oralech's Liberation Rite.
And like. that's valid. Plenty of people canonically hopped down that river to get revenge on the Worst Emperor while he was having his offscreen redemption arc.
Also didn't oralech only suffer a couple months
Sandra's sentence, unlike the other Beyonders, is implied to be harsher.
While the rest of the Beyonders are apparently able to fade off once the rites are over, Sandra apparently cannot. Scribes really messed her over. Blinded, jailed and forced to take part in the Rites.
What did Sandra even do?
nope
Attempted murder of Soliam.
He was at the beginning of the demonification process
Was it by design that she didn’t fade, or that she no longer wanted to fade?
Cruel design
She knows her sentence is harsher
It's a fascinating counterpoint to all the positive lore about the Scribes, I think!
And one of the reasons I want her to go off @ Tariq or preferably Celeste
Sandra and her retinue were assassins sent to murder Soliam. But when they found Soliam, he was "changed", but Sandra did not believe it. So she started beating Soliam while the rest of her gang were not so happy about Sandra basically attempting to murder a changed and "innocent" man.
So the Scribes punished Sandra and her retinue of Assassins.
The retinue was not as guilty
Not as guilty, but sentenced all the same.
Guilt by Association, by the looks of it.
Scribes were not saints either
Definitely not.
all of the entourage of the redeemed king were assassins, but somehow Sandra's group had to be punished while others were befriended
Didn't all of the Scribes see Soliam was redeemed and join his cause?
They weren't all assassins, right? Lu was kind of chilling, Triesta went downside looking for him but in order to bring him back and broker peace...
the book chapter written by her only said that her wings took her to the downside, no more
She says at some other point that she thought finding Soliam and bringing him back up would help peace...
because the empire collapsed on itself and declared wars right and left and within?
Lu was just in the trees somehow...
"Blessed-born Triesta swooped down upon us, but to warn of imminent attack."
she was there to warn them, so not assassin (neither was lu)
and the imp was already there
Ditto Ores, possibly. Wyrms are just... enthusiastically kind of there 🤔
so what we know about Sandra are 1) she is the only character of present-time cast who had interacted with Soliam 2) she is bound to the orb, never to get out, which is way worse than cast to downside 3) her sentence was harsher and she could not even fade as long as the rites were in play
Tariq and Celeste most likely interacted with Soliam!
right, I forgot
so this is why Sandra never spread any weird rumours about Soliam, she's outnumbered by more reliable sources
Besides, I think Sandra is too proud to lie or spread rumours about Soliam, even if Celeste or Tariq are there.
She dislikes the Scribes and Soliam with a passion, but perhaps 800+ years of Solitude have taught her that baseless accusations won't help her case.
could be
because I felt that if Sandra was sentenced in the first place because she refused to believe Soliam's redemption arc, it was weird that she never talked about Soliam that way
for a while I wondered if Sandra was wronged more than it appears
I thought of the same, actually.
@dusky cradle I know I'm late to the party, but FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO AGREES THAT PAMITHA AND SANDRA ARE BOTH AWESOME!!!
@polar wren You have good taste.
If I had it on hand, I'd post the picture of Sir Gilman with the massive heart for a pupil.
That was me everytime either of them was on screen.
https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/001/099/678/212.jpg And when Pamitha's called by the Beyonder Crystal
I like Pamitha a lot too but I see you do more
"The Beyonder Crystal calls you"
Surprising from the person with a bird profile picture, but then again, my username for everything is some form of MaxDucks, so touche.
I also don’t think Tamitha’s party was caught because of Pamitha, because rumours of Highwing Remnants attack were already in place when Pamitha tried her thing
oh pam!!!!!! pam is lovely ;w;
Sandra>Fae>rest
you gotcho things mixed up
Oralech>Rukey>rest
C’mon y’all,
Deluge<Lendel<rest
Oh, wait, that was the one character I hated more than Manley.
hahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAH
Lendel's just kind of The Worst (tm)
lendel is terrible
eW
Oh man.
Lendel "takes the oralech volfred thing personally somehow" the liar
oh god the y----h follower
I'd rather tangle with Udmildhe than interact with Lendel, Manley, or Deluge.
☝
Udmildhe is kind of a one note character imo
yo can I request that we not shorten Ysl*** to something approximating the Tetragrammaton
I mean Bertrude is 10/10
bertrude scares the heck outta me
hell yeah bog crones
Remember the part where hedwyn can't tell if she's sleeping or dead
And she thinks he's crushing on her.
who else rung the bell until rukey got rid of it and wonder where he put it after you released him
volfred and bertrude are some of my favorite characters
i mean
i was kinda angry he didnt give it back
Remember the part where Bertrude risks her own sanity to try to pull Udmildhe out of her cultish obsession with a dead titan?
Probably took it with him
i think they're very underrated
Is udmildhe even wrong though?
what do you mean?
The titans in pyre are as real as the gods in bastion
It's not that she's wrong, it's that it would be really really bad if Yslach came back.
Right, but they were vanquished & like were kinda garbage and don't deserve worship
the titans should be permanent die
It's like if Galactus showed up.
whO
If his return is inevitable, might as well get on his good side
oh god
He doesn't have a good side.
Worshipping him could resurrect him, which is why Udmildhe's faith needs to be broken.
i feel like "if evil is inevitable, we should cozy up to it" is not... good
yeah if any of y'all have played Darkest Dungeon that's like a core theme
postponing and fighting against even an overwhelmingly powerful evil is Still Good and Worthwhile
Is yslach evil? Maybe he's just mad that some authors skinned him for no reason
i think it's pretty clear he's evil
Yeah but maybe that was after
Can we please not do this willfully ignorant contrarianism when it's so clearly stated in-game that Yslach was evil?
yeah
The scribes are kind of unreliable narrators
this is a weird thing to argue
my brain: let's not get too deep
the smart part of my brain: this is a theories channel
i mean, unreliable narrators or not, he is intended to be evil. there's not really a grey area with this.
I mean I will say that one of the things that really resonated with me is that the Scribes were fallible, had legitimate character traits and flaws and strengths and weaknesses, and reading The Book was supposed to be a process in wrestling with contradictions and symbolism and redemption
but Yslach is pretty straight-up just supposed to be this setting's version of like Cthulhu
Alright sure whatever the alien planet eater is probably a bad guy. But what about shax tho. He's got 6 shoulders and they're all for hugs
Anyone wanna do a post colonial reading of pyre?
I mean tbh I think Pyre lends itself to a postcolonial reading
whA
The downside strongly resists being colonized, and the titans seem to be a representation of that
Oh I mean there's that, but there's also domestic imperialism, i.e. the oppressive theocracy that develops and ends at the end of the game
oh i am SO here for this
and what happens to the Downside after people like...stop going there?
The other thing I think is interesting is it probably leads itself to some semblance of a Kabbalistic reading as well, though the Rites obviously take place within a different faith system, there are still really interesting parallels with Kaballah and Gematria
I'd love to hear more, I don't know anything about this reading
so I'd have to do a fresh runthrough to note everything, but off the top of my head
the number seven has a lot of interesting meanings in Gematria; one of them is as a cycle which clearly has parallels to the Rites, which makes the open seven-pointed star symbol seen throughout the game really interesting
also
the Sefirot
are, in Kabbalah, the ten attributes of G-d
and there are ten teams (though one of them exists in the Orb), each corresponding to one of the Scribes plus the Beyonder Crystal and the Nightwings
but there are definitive parallels b/c each of the triumvirates are supposed to represent a particular aspect/attribute the Scribes were supposed to have embodied
And there's 10 nightwings
Exactly, again corresponding to different archetypes/attributes/aspects
It'd be cool to draw lines between these archetypes
There's a lot of 8s and 10s in pyre
Also, the number three in Gematria is, among other things, associated with bearing or leading, and there have to be three exiles in the Triumvirates
ooh this is really cool
Eight is also an interesting number! because the eighth sefirot represents glory and splendor, but also in gematria eight is associated with one-beyond-a-cycle, which can mean a variety of things
either eternity—which seems to be what the Voice wants, an eternally repeated cycle
or completion—which seems to be what Volfred and the Nightwings want, an end to the cycle that has been coopted by oppressive forces
Yeah this is cool
And, getting back to what I was talking about earlier, to Jews in general but Jewish mystics especially, the entire religious process was supposed to be wrestling with a living text, both the Talmud (rabbinic commentary and arguments) and the Tanakh. So the fact that Pyre displays a religious text that is self-contradictory in places and the job of the reader is to try to wrestle with and understand the tensions in the text was something that was really cool for me because it seemed to show a stark contrast to the dogmatic way faith is often portrayed in media
but it also was what started getting me thinking about doing this sort of reading of the game
this is a really interesting reading
Obviously I'd have to go more in-depth to entirely justify this, but off the top of my head, trying to draw a parallel between each of the triumvirates and the sefirot might go something like
Keter-Crown, Decisiveness/Autonomy-Dissidents
Chokhmah-Wisdom-Chastity
Binah-Understanding - Withdrawn
Chesed-kindness - Tempers
Gevurah-severity - Accusers
Tiferet-Beauty - Essence
Netzach-Eternity, perpetuity, victory, endurance - Pyrehearts
Hod-Splendor, withdrawal/surrender-sincerity - Fate
Yesod-Foundation - Beyonders
Malkut-Kingship, exalted humility - Nightwings
and obviously here there are parallels to each of the scribes that founded the triumvirates (for each of the triumvirates founded by scribes)
like Ha'ub formed the dissidents as a collective of individual autonomy—where "those who do not belong belong" (though tbh this is probably the one I'm least certain about b/c there's also bits of symbolism involved with the divine will that I'm don't think map neatly)
Lu Sclorian founded the Chastity literally as disciples of wisdom, modesty, integrity, and kinship, so that leads itself right into Chokhmah
The Withdrawn were founded by Milithe to know and so Binah—the desire to learn and try to understand—is core to their reason for being
the Tempers were formed by Soliam Murr, who had once been a tyrant until he was shown profound kindness and mercy, and repented, and who then adopted a kind of strength through kindness and mercy which is supposed to be instantiated in the Tempers
Gevurah—discipline, severity, judgement—is Golanthian's gig, and resultantly is the Accuser's gig
Tiferet represents a sort of spiritual balance that creates a kind of profound liberty which is recognizable as beautiful, which is present in Triesta Tithis (literally referred to as a Matriarch) and passed on to the Essence
The militant and courageous Underking Ores values victory, courage, and endurance, which is a trait (clearly) passed on to the Pyrehearts
The Fates, founded by Many-Mane, represent splendour in honor, sincerity, and...well, faith in Fate
then it gets tricky because we get into Sefirot not directly correlated to any one Scribe, but I think there's a clear tie between Yesod—about forming a foundation common to all, remembering and keeping alive knowledge of the past, and connecting to what needs to be done—and the task set in crystal for the Beyonders to accomplish
And finally, the Nightwings, chosen to be the metric by which all other Triumvirates are measured, just as the Sefirot flow into Malkut, the duality of exaltedness and humility. The Nightwings are at the summit of Mount Alodiel (and of course the root -El in Hebrew is tied to one of the Names of G-d) most frequently and are exalted in that way, but also resultantly have to perform and submit to the ritualistic process and potential failure of the liberation rite
@mild falcon I mean it could fit, right? Like the Rope-Caller isn't a scribe but he does set the events of the Scribes in motion, acting in part as a foundation to the entire narrative
oh yeah thats a cool perspective
if you're looking at word roots you should check the pyre dictionary
here are the real names of the triumverates, among other words
and the two artifacts related to the Rope-Caller—the beyonder crystal which he used to lure Murr into the Downside and the Tattered Mantle which he wore—both became foundations in their own right, the crystal of the Nightwings and resultantly the Rites as a whole, and the Tattered Mantle as the foundation for the Imp-Titan
I'll check that out!
yeah ropecaller seems to fit nicely, hmm
and drawing a line between ropecaller and the beyonders isnt that much of a stretch, considering the crystal
yeah I mean I'm probably (a) reading too much into this and (b) should probably re-evaluate which of the Sefirot corresponds to which triumvirate and which Scribe but
art is meant to be read into too much
idk I really dig the mysticism and religion portrayed in Pyre because it shows it as liberating and messy and beautiful as practiced by some in the Downside (the Reader, Fae/Xae/Bae/moon-touched girl, etc.) but oppressive when applied with the people removed from it in a fundamentally unjust and totalitarian system
and there's probably dozens more parallels I could draw like the fact that, given that -el is one of the Names of G-d it's often used in the end of names to refer to Them, e.g. "Samuel" which means "G-d Heard"—and is also used not-infrequently in the ends of character's names in Pyre
like Lendel and Jodariel
despite the fact that moooost of the Pyre words are fundamentally Latinate and not Semitic in nature
but yeah idk that's my bit
is there anything to be said about how the power of the rites weakens as the oppressive government does, from a kabbalistic perspective?
thats the most interesting part for me
I mean to be clear I'm not like a Kabbalistic mystic or anything, I'm just a Jewish guy who has picked up some Kabbalah along the way so there are way more layers to this than I'll be able to tell you about but
I mean I think there would probably be parallels on the seven/eight front, right?
the cycle of the rites is explicitly tied to the number seven through the open seven-pointed star, right?
so either the cycle exists for eternity, and moves to that form of eight (which the govt. has co-opted and corrupted to be an oppressive form of eternity, a totalitarian theocracy), or it moves to completion, the other eight, and ends in that way
so as it becomes clear that the cycle of rites is drawing to a close, the eight-of-eternity becomes impossible and the government, resting on the concept of the eternal cycle for its eternity, wanes as the cycle approaches the eight-of-completion
what's also interesting is that while the star is seven-pointed, there are eight stars drawn to make it up (corresponding to each of the scribes)
oooh also interestingly the star is six-sided, seven-pointed, with eight stars drawn
yeah its a pretty cool symbol
and also has like a million symbolic interpretations, I'm sure
woah its a star, and the game features a lot of reading stars
like in addition to the individual pieces of symbolism associated with six, seven, and eight, you can use different combinations and come up with interesting stuff
e.g. 6+7+8=21, which is associated with absolute being, and also "to shelter" and "to burst forth" (like the water at the end of a liberation rite, which is the culmination of each turn of the cycle?)
its funny to do math in a game about language
I mean it's the math of language
woah
which connects bits of language to each other symbolically
(again, according to the Kabbalistic tradition)
but yeah tl;dr I love Pyre
& it lends itself to a reading of it steeped in Jewish Mysticism
which is Super Cool IMHO
please tell us more, I love this
Seconded, that was a really cool fun and insightful read into a game I absolutely love
@lime mural have you considered like, writing some of this in an article? this was an absolutely fascinating backread
like just a mindblowing analysis of the text, REALLY cool :O
yeah it was very very good
Absolutely, that sort of analysis was a joy to read.
yo i love it when someone has a lesser known area of expertise and they talk about it in relation to some other seemingly completely different thing and you can just be [learning to be spiderman]
it's good
awww thank y'all! means a lot that people think that sort of stuff is interesting 🙂
Your daily reminder that Sandra is amazing.
And the music in this game is divine.
sgg makes the best green girls: artemis, sandra, boxer, dusa
never played bastion tho
the joke is that the transistor is green and therefore best green girl
lowkey hedwyns very hot
Highkey.
It's extremely interesting! Seconding the motion above to post it somewhere for posterity!
highkey hedwyn is very hot, hedwyn is husband material
hedwyn would treat you right
hedwyn makes you breakfast in bed
tariq is Also very nice.......it's the 'x has two hands' meme :3
Tariq is wonderful but it takes a special kind, I think. Ditto Volfred for that matter. Hedwyn is husband material through and through
If I got to wife up a gal, it'd obviously be Sandra.
But runner ups are Pamitha, Jodariel and Celeste.
Sandra is just- God dammit I have never, ever loved a character as much as I love her.
Bertr- I MEAN. Sandra. Yeah. Then Jodi.
sandras arc broke my heart in a good way
Sandra is too precious.
sandra is very wonderful but i was a little like. ah sgg why did you try to give me a girlfriend when you knew we'd just be friends
Waiting for that Pyre dating sim ||/s||
What if I told u... there was a fanmade joak one
Now the big question is:
Does it have Sandra?
Unless Joak is a ship name and I'm an idiot and I feel dumb for asking.
seren are you talking about the one i made
joak, thats jodariel with volfred's cousin "oak"
i'm volfred's cousin oak
volfred is a teacher, does that mean the cousin is professor oak? 🤔
brb getting my phd real quick
How do I access the pyre music files again?
like, the ost?
my brain gave me an idea for a piece of art I would want to commission that would be way too much money for me to actually do x3 and it is connected to Pyre
no, the songs that aren't on the ost, like all the different variations on the ost songs
it started just as a cosplay piece of three of my characters a rite team
then it escalated as a full animation of 6 of my characters of a whole rite match
a comic would be expensive but probably not too expensive 🤔
theres a zip file named noxalas floating around for some of the songs, but if you want to rip them yourself you're looking for the transistor ripping tool, it also works on pyre
I think I found the zip file, thanks fren
the zip file also has the like. fancier sections that play over the triumvirate themes sometimes?
.........for everything but path to glory 😔
Path to glory is already perfect
By the ‘fancier’ sections, you mean the ones that play while you or your opponents have the orb?
yeah or like, the bit that plays when you get briefed on the enemy triumvirate's leader
regular path to glory slams but i want to be able to listen to the fancy version too
@lime mural a: ur concern for not approximating the tetragammaton was honestly v touching for me to see, its something that i hadnt noticed here but concerns me in other contexts too!! b: LOVELY backread and it will def take me a few passes to fully understand, but a: perhaps something abt the small/large cycles of rites/liberation as corresponding to shmittah/yovel cycle (....literally yovel as "liberation", too) and b: extremely funny to me that the book of rites is. downside gemarah
c: curs are jewish, curs are so jewish, fangsong is cur chanukah, i will stand by this
Hey @torn bolt
So the way the game will fancify the soundtrack for different situations is to play one ‘layer’ over top of another. I’ve got .wav files for all the layers, which for Rite songs are typically: the base layer; the “you’ve got the orb” layer; the “your opponent’s got the orb” layer; the “orb is near someone’s Pyre” layer; and maybe one more that I can’t remember. There’s a tool out there that extracts all the songs, which I could sent you if you’d like?
I sure hope I @‘d the right “Stephen”
looks like
oh yes please do thank you
I would like that as well
By the vibes we gather in their names 😔 🙌
erisa, to oralech: scribe check
LMAO
oh mY GOD
yeS IT IS PINNED
I love democracy-
I love ~scribe check~
I love Sandra.
And she loves you, fams! 💚
💚
@onyx forum sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this, but there's definitely some parallels with Shmittah and Yovel. I don't remember off the top of my head how many years the rites have been going on, though, would have to do some digging to see if there's some sort of interesting direct correlation or if they're thematically tied but not mathematically. Nonetheless, despite not really being Jewish explicitly, I think Pyre was one of the most Jewish games I ever played, and Dalbert def gives off some Rabbi Akiva vibes vis-a-vis the importance of keeping valuable cultural and religous practices alive
Sandra has been exiled for 837 years, but does that imply that the Rites have been a thing for 837 years?
love the theory that pyre hits so hard cuz it spoke to the jewish culture in me 😩
not exactly, but it implies an 800ish year run
which is....MAN thats a lot of years
If that's the only benchmark we have to go off of in-game, which it might very well be, we can def do something with that but if it's not exact it'll be hard to come up with stuff directly I think
yeah it's a really long time for an oppressive theocracy to like
exist without a popular uprising
side note, volfred getting his hands on proper gemarah study would be both insuffereable and incredible to watch
idk I like Volfred
although I suppose that at least some of that period wasn't as horrible as it is during the game
Volfred's fear schtick gives me major R. Nachman vibes
i love him, dont get me wrong, i just feel like he'd be so nitpicky in a debate, and what is halacha but a billion nits to pick 😂
omg
"All the world is a very narrow place/bridge, but what's important is for fear to not be all" is the translation I (and my school's rabbi) like the most but it's also translated as "but the main thing is to have no fear at all" and either one feeds into Volfred's bit about what freedom means
[singing in camp voice] and the main thing is to recall, is to have no fear TO have no fear at all 🎵
lol
that's the tariq take
so.
yea?
The year that pyre takes place in is 837 AS, which has been assumed to mean "after soliam"
so that would've been the year, presumably, when soliam went to the downside, which is not the year that the rites started
the rites didn't start until all 8 scribes had defeated archbeast sung gries
and gathered in the downside
and presumably made some kind of eldritch magic pact with astral patrons who then sent them the heralds to serve as instruments of the rites
JUST the fight against the archbeast was said to have taken, like, months or years or something wasn't it?
Oh! Also, even though he doesn't use the root, Mitzrayim IIRC is also a word with a root that can mean "narrow" or "constricted" (as the world is) and so freedom from fear, in relieving the narrowness of the world, brings freedom from that constriction and so liberation (from the constrictedness of literal slavery in Egypt or constrictedness of the world) so there's definitely something to be made of Nachman and what he's saying vis-a-vis fear and liberation that gives off a very Volfred vibe
and presumably made some kind of eldritch magic pact with astral patrons who then sent them the heralds to serve as instruments of the rites wait what?
that's my theory anyways 😂
the heralds got down there Somehow
explicitly to serve as instruments of the rites
yeah
Underking Ores says
'Twas not a pleasant mountain-hike, but a pitched battle, spanning seventeen full moons
Scribes be fightin
Pyre Pesach
next year in Yerushalayim
HFVHJFCHJF
Next year in the Commonwealth
next year in the SARHIAN UNION
The land of milk and not archjustices anymore
ok honestly literally the wellwish to have next year in an idealized utopia is like. yes
ghcfghdcghdcghdh
in what way
in the "rites are ending as a result of the uprising against the Commonwealth making it more just and outgrowing its use for them" sort of way
also also have we considered that the way never to return swaps out paragraphs with the same connecting lines is v much like rosh hashana songprayers................i remember asking darren korb abt this the v soon after pyre was out and it was not his intention but its still cool
in repairing the world by acting on it to correct injustice, we change the way the world itself functions
yeeeeeessssssss
whiiich also connects to the concept of G-d's unity w/the universe
tbh tbh i feel like tariq's struggle with having a personal will vs being an instrument of the rites..............its jewish. i cant point to any concrete evidence but the spirit is there
I mean look at like 95% of the prophet's lives
you know, the old "if you abolish your desires when theyre different from gd's , gd will abolish others' when theyre different from yours" quote, but like, we all are people, you know? we all, like, want things. and its a difficult struggle and i find tariq a nice echo of that
Right
what's interesting there though is the juxtaposition with Celeste, who seems to treat her job Much More Seriously and doesn't really seem to openly rebel in the sorts of ways Tariq does
i have sooooooo many (headcanoned) celeste thoughts like so so many
There's also the angle from which the Talmud was created - even if you ban texts, you can't ban the spirit of a thing. The fact we still have Rites, despite having far fewer Readers than there are triumvirates, suggests that there's something akin to this in the Downside, and that, in the Nightwings' case, Tariq's likely a part of that
Doubtless Tariq would be the one to keep oral tradition alive
mainly to do with..... i think a lot about her having some chance to be back on land and really struggling because. the rites arent there anymore.
shes extremely rigid and, i feel, angry, and it takes her time to learn what to do with all that
i really hope that by some fantasy contrivance the two of them come back, cause the food for thought is GREAT
English also seems to be the world of Pyre's Loshn Kodesh and it's also the language Tariq and Celeste use in oral tradition/history
Rigid personalities fare poorly when confronted with purposelessness
Anger would be her response to that, I think
the idea of english being called "loshon kodesh" is SO funny
yeah but like...it is in-game?
i know hdghdg
or whatever they would call English
and yesss..... i feel like celeste spends her first few months to a year post game back on earth holed up somewhere, seething, barely moving and like. slowly adjusts to appreciating the world around her, little by little ;w;
i wonder also how many semi-alphabets sahrian picked up
like thru phonetics and symbolism
Post-game, she and Tariq "return to the stars", no?
yes! but its fun to think
@vestal bluff that's at least heavily implied, yeah
They say as much in Bound Together
like, theres only so many times you can draw a picture of an egg on your shopping list before you have a character thast means egg
lol
postgame language is gonna be SO COOL
-->drawn picture of filet of slurgh
sahrian words getting adopted into english
some sort of new mix language appearing....
All the uncaptured Readers from the Commonwealth come back to the surface, and get some sort of pidgin writing system going with the Downsiders
yesss
I mean I think canonically that's something Volfred plays a huge role in
in printing/distributing his newsletter thingamajig
i get the feeling that celeste and tariq are made of the rites, the ingredients in them are rites. maybe they just immediately turn to dust as soon as the last person leaves. that'd be a scary sight
honestly, i dont think the rites are over
i think this is a gap in an even larger cycle
gareph and ik'sa: this isnt the last rite song in the world, this is just a tribute
Idk, I feel like there is something of them there? Like maybe this is just because I want it to be the case, but it seems more likely to me that they return to the stars together
but what does it mean to return to the stars?
i mean, the titans returned to the stars because they were killed
Gareph, strumming Tariq's mandolin: Anyway, here's Wonderwall
Right, but they still had power to influence the Rites at least @mild falcon
so clearly it doesn't mean to disappear
Side note, there's a lot of really interesting stuff w/Tariq's name
-->the morning star
-->one who travels at night
-->one who knocks on the door
tariq knows every knock knock joke
the morning star seems like the most relevant translation
if tariq knocked on my door i would simply invite him inside
could we link the morning star with the way rites are a night thing.....the morning star is the end of the period of favor-seeking
tariq: knock knock
me: who's there
tariq: tariq
me: tariq who
tariq: tariq or treat
me: happy halloween
AWWWWW
fun tariq things: absolutely loves stormy weather and the ocean. i just think its nice :))
he was so happy in my most recent playthru on khaylmer isle
he is so tied into a thousand mental knots at all times he deserves to enjoy himself
YESSSS
tariq: no its a song
its a good song tbh

ok i need to start collecting myself to head to bed but have a fic abt returning to earth after returning to stars from....WOW this is over a year old now https://jodaaariel.tumblr.com/post/178145855190/celeste-fic-time-yeah-celeste-wants-to-be-a-star
CELESTE FIC TIME YEAH Celeste wants to be a star the way a violin wants to be a tree. [[MORE]] It hasn’t even been a whole week since Celeste fluttered open her eyes and cast off her return to the...
its been a fun time 🔯
👋
I mean “the one who knocks” is also relevant—he’s the one who travels with the Nightwings and (metaphorically) knocks on the gate of the summit of Mount Alodiel
also “one who travels at night” seems relevant b/c he’s the guardian who travels using the night sky as a guide
yeah for sure
