He basically said that Volfred and Manley can't really accurately depict all of sap culture as they're just two individuals and have very different viewpoints on what is best, for them and people in general. Their disagreement comes mainly from their individual differences in perspective rather than a cultural divide. I doubt they intended or anticipated the course the commonwealth eventually took. They clearly had good intentions, if some questionable approaches that certainly don't lend themselves to preventing such extremes. I ultimately think the Commonwealth's downfall was its own doing, whatever the scribes intended, and that someday the Sahrian Union will too fall, perhaps also to its own corruption, no matter what Volfred intended

I know anime is not to be discussed here, but Made in Abyss has a similar setup, a mysterious hole from where everybody knows there's a point you can't come back, yet they still go down there to explore fueled by their curiosity and desire of adventure. In fact, I think that's why Soliam went there in the beginning, chasing some legend, treasure, whatever

@barren topaz there's a local discussion group that meets once a month to discuss about games, and they choose a different game each time. in september they will have a meeting about Pyre. usually there are two 20-minute presentations in any subject related, like last time the chosen game was VA-11 HALL-A and they talked about the cyberpunk aspect of it.

One of the things I noticed about that is that Transistor left me like wow that's a bittersweet ending while Pyre has a... happier ending (I got the full pacifist one) but I felt really sad because I was like I'm not going to know anything else about these characters. Maybe you could talk about the way it makes you feel attached to fictional characters and care about them as if they were real, which is also why liberation rites feel so hard because you have to choose someone you like but if you do you don't know anything else about them.

I think Pyre's strongest point is how you as a player feel like you belong to the game. It's made like a visual novel but unlike a visual novel you don't reach to the characters, they're the ones that reach to you and choosing who you want to know more about is done by being "mean" to them by not liberating them

They're mostly satisfying in their own way, but there's also tradeoffs of all your choices, like how not everyone can go free, some people are going to end up apart, but most characters find ways to be happy wherever they end up and who they're with

I remember on my ending I liberated Oralech and then, since it was pacifist, he just went up there and was like... ok. I felt that was kind of... disappointing and felt bad for not liberating my reader, so I reloaded the game and did that instead, then oh boy... wasn't expecting that turn xD

I guess I didn't really sympathize with him, like yeah, I understood him and I liberated him because I felt that it was the right thing to do, and expected him to do something impactful for the revolution so then it was kind of lackluster...

I think I like better the endings where he stays with Volfred and Ti'zo, even if it's on the Downside

Unless you get a non pacifist revolution he doesn't really do much in the Commonwealth, and it was kind of heartbreaking how Ti'zo and Volfred try to talk to him and be reasonable on the final rite

i was so mad and sad and i felt like i was actually letting down my team when we lost to the tempers because i didn't sympathize with ignarius, but i felt really good about losing to the fate because i did like dalbert and almer

oh, also the fact that you can only liberate those who are qualified which are the top level characters means that you have to make a sacrifice both in your relationship with the character (you know a lot about them and have a close connection) and gameplay-wise

Ah yes, that's also interesting, to liberate someone you need to play with them a lot which is probably because you like their playstyle and they kind of carry your games, but then only the ones you're good with are available for liberation

It really plays a lot with the concept of having to get rid of those who you like, either gameplay or story wise

haha so when the game came out and i cosplayed Jodariel i had a photographer take some photos at a con, and i didn't know her at the time
she's known in the community as the best photographer but she doesn't release the photos for a long, long time
we became very good friends and it's been almost a year since then and i only got 2 photos from her (the one in my profile pic is one of them) and now she started to play Pyre and she said it's given her the motivation to edit more of my photos lol

pyre primarily uses Alegreya SC for headers, titles, stats, that sort of thing; Crimson Text for the main body of text in the biographies; IM Fell in dialogue (specifically the DW Pica variant i think but i could never get a 100% match regardless of which i tried); DK Northrumbria for the main body of the book of rites, but Kells SD for the title of each chapter of it
