I know, I pre-ordered mine the first day it was available. I'm talking about the randomly signed copies that apparently are a thing now
I still need to play bastion its the only game I havent played yet :(
Next sale I swear im getting it
@raven root limited run tweeted about this!
Yoooo it’s so good!! Only game I ever loved so much I learned to speedrun
Anything by supergiant is good I just missed the last sale and was sooo sad. I wanna play it asap
ahh, there it is. Nice, thanks Alma
They said they will include them in the normal ones extra to 300 copies. They will not put them in bulk orders either
Can someone link the tweet for me?
Ty
Kayla, Bastion is amaaaazing, hope you get the chance to play it soon! 😃 😄 😄 😄

Bastion is the game that got me serious about my art 💕💕💕 i love everything about it. What’s everyone’s favorite thing about Bastion??
That smooth as butter narration, if I ever make a game that allows it, I’d want someone to narrate with that voice
Favorite thing about Bastion? I mean, the entire game is a masterpiece, but if I had to say my 'favorite' thing, it would have to be the OST.
I literally keep the CD in my car just so I can listen to it if the mood strikes. Cover to cover it is a magical album.
Cliche but I love the Ost too it was the first thing I knew about the game becauee a friend of mine said that he studied to it
The use of narration to feed the player information that would have been tedious in text
I adore every line in Calford Culdren for some reason, Rucks explaining their drive for power and understanding as your doing the same, constantly under attack... It's suberb
I LOVE the artwork, but I really, really love how the story fits together. I love how deep it is, and how it gets darker as it goes on. I love its somber, but not utterly miserable, tone. I LOOOVE the worldbuilding of Caelondia that is revealing through each place the Kid visits; how it's all tied together to make the world feel wide, huge, and lived-in. And I love the insanely well-thought out details like making a lot of the monsters technically the same, but at different growth stages/stages of life. That is BRILLIANT. I love how you get attached to the characters, and how you get to know them through dialogue, even the Kid. And I love the Dreams: backstory through narration like that, getting you so invested so hear the next sentence you fight through waves of beasts--it's BRILLIANT. 😍

Has anyone here seen Story Beats: Bastion by Innuendo Studios on YouTube? It's a really cool video and helped me appreciate Bastion a little more
yup, tis good. It's just I started writing a new story tonight and I'm SO happy/excited about it. XP
Thanks, have a good sleep , too, when you eventually go to sleep! 😃
I feel like off all of supergiants games, bastion would make the best little animeted short!
Oh, man! All of them would look AMAZING animated!!! You have touched on one of my favorite subjects ever!!!!
more on that later, the Q & A is happening! AHH!
The gods have answered bastions on sale now I can finally play it
Ooohh good luck! Transistor was the first game I ever platinumed on ps4, so thanks supergiant. Its very fulfilling
I thought it was weird that Slinger's Song was called a song yet didn't have any lyrics, but then I thought maybe The Slingers would sing along to the instrumental?
YAAY! Have an amazing time Kayla!!!!!
Wow that's so cool! I'm soooooo close to 100 % on all of the games, but I'm just one achievement short on all of them!
Awwww thats agonizingly close. Theyve got some tough challenges since they want you to add on all the extra difficulty settings
i believe in you!
Im having a lot of fun playing
Does Bastion have fun challenges in 100%? I usually don't 100% games but that might give me an excuse to play the game again...
The buff stuff? Its pretty similar to the other games
For some reason I don't have the The End Achievement but I am 99% sure I beat the game and sat through the credits in awe
Thats strange, all it says is complete the story
I could just beat it again 🤷
If ya wanna
Maybe get the other ending?
@wintry latch I think the lyrics are gone because there is nobody left to sing them. The only songs that have lyrics seem to be sung by the survivors of the calamity. Since none of them are slingers, it would follow they may not know the lyrics completely
The narrator used to practice with the fire-arms on the bastion, but everyone asked him to stop
because he was making quite the
Ruckus
i wpuld pin this but all the other mods would tackle me
Beacouse pins are reserved for important things?
puns
I just read that article "A video game can change the brain, may improve empathy in middle schoolers" and it's interesting how I myself played Bastion while in the end of middle school, and it has definitely impacted my life so much as to have affected my dangerously high empathy 😅
What was the choice ypu made in the end ?
I don't remember the end choice in my first play through because it was SO long ago, but whenever I've replayed it I always chose Save Zulf & Evacuate
(after seeing the other options of course)
I do like thinking of the idea of the Restoration ending, but it's much sadder than the Evacuation
Well you don't really get closure with the restoration and history may loop or not and segregation last forever or the calamity may work, looks bleak to me.
Though I must say saving Zulf, I don't think I did that in my first playthrough, he crossed both the kids and the uras and I liked the idea of the kid making a choice that may be entirely personal.
Niki I read that too, but they used Bastion as a control video game that theoretically wouldn't teach empathy, which I thought was uh interesting (unless you meant a different article)
yeah hfjvngj they picked the wrong game huh 😂 😂
Yeah, that was quite interesting an interesting point 😅
A Dragon Ball Z game would be a better control for such an experiment
Sounds interesting, link the article?
I did the Restoration ending, first time, because we fought so hard to build the world, and I felt sorry for all the poor animals....but then I realized that everyone...forgot each other....I was literally crying huge crocodile tears during all of the credits, feeling IMMENSELY saddened and GUILTY about what I had just done. Bastion effected me so much; first game to make me cry, and they were SO REAL, they were completely real people, and the choice I made caused them to forget one another....I felt absolutely awful, I was weeping, and thinking, I've just made a horrible mistake! with a twisted feeling of intense grief.
Awww
Yeah I kinda felt like that too but I was also lowkey mad at my friend who told me to choose to leave Zulf & restore the first time around 😅
Until that friend told me to replay it and make the other choices
Asdfghjk
He just wanted me to make the "wrong" choices the first time around and save the "right" choices for the second time bc it'd be more impactful that way
& tbh it was
Like the contrast between leavjng / saving Zulf, wow
The first time I was unstoppable with the bartering ram but the second time I could only walk slowly & couldn't even defend myself
hmmmmm 🤔
also I was lowkey panicking bc I was gonna run out of health potions LOL but the contrast made the moment really powerful
the contrast of what?? The two experiences of the same event, you mean?
Carrying Zulf so slowly, getting wounded, unable to defend yourself...THAT SONG....it's such a darn powerful moment. All those arrows piercing the Kid's skin. 😢
@whole ravine https://news.wisc.edu/a-video-game-can-change-the-brain-may-improve-empathy-in-middle-schoolers/
I finally beat bastion a few days back and now, after having played transformer on PS4, I think I see allot that was carried over, but I still have to do replays because I know i missed out on allot, especially in the beginning half. Its such a good game and the monsters are so sympathetic, I feel bad for killing squirts.
but they make such a nice sound when they pop
And you don't see the squirts and all the wildlife that gets killed when you take a core or a shard
I'm now sad and guilty thinking about those anonymous victims
Me too!
Bastion could have used some surprise Vampires
The Ura are pale and move fast af, so you can easily think of them as sort of vampires 🤔
Hmmmm....
Plus, they live underground as if avoiding sunlight...
I'd totally be down with a DLC or mod that was basically "And suddenly! VAMPIRES"
mod it in yourself!
I want to fight the program Twine to the death and that's just text
Peering into the code of Bastion would result in chewing my own head off
Ruck's whole thing is focusing on the past and thus, it can be concluded that he regrets something or someone
he left his oven on and burned down the entire city
(rucks voice)
one, not havin' to watch my step all the time.
two..........ah,
Ruck would be terrible to go on a road trip with cause well, he'd froget about number 2
AAAAAAAHHHHH HFHJFHJJFHJFVJH
"i told you to go before we chose the evacuate ending!!"
Pfft, just go over the edge
Wait, this is Rucks and there's a Shrine in walking distance....
"But thats just ungentlemanly"
gods aint gonna help you son, when you have to go number one 🎵
HA
sorry hbfhjgjghjgj
hey kamila
im gonna have to ban you now for crimes against the Commonwealth
(is exiled)
I finished bastion!
\o/
Im positive this was already asked and spoilers but what did people choose at the end?
congrats! I chose acceptance
left zulf & restored, then saved & evacuated
oh yeah and saving him
I evacuated and saved zulf cause I thought restoring was too risky:/
restoring is implied to be a loop right?
Due to a series of books I read, I choose to evacuate
restoring is a loop, yes
that's why ng+ exists
@hardy grail books?
True theres ngplus but then its canon it literally just dooms everyone again?
Rucks was dropping hints about what restoration was going to do and the ending of one of my favorite series has a similar ending and it ain't pretty
It's a huge spoiler and I don't want to give it away in case anyone is or will read it
If it was just gonna make them go through the war again cause it doesnt say how far back or them four get involved, maybe zia idk, to fix it a second try
I was like mmmm lets go look for survivors and work with flying pieces of land
for me it just fits better with my look at life anyways, why go back and repeat the same mistakes
Yep
i have a confession to make
Yeah?
It's OK to be wrong
Thats bold
but its true
I think the only wrong thing in Bastion is to use the Dueling Pistols over anything else
you're missing a gun there
The Dueling Pistols didn't make me feel like Roland OR Clint Eastwood and thus, they have failed
You use those and I use the Repeater, we'll see what happens
repeater is only one gun, therefore it's objectively worse
See, that's why I give the Pistols so much flack, it doesn't live up to it's promise
I'm saying all this but I honestly have no idea what I ended up using because it's been so long
I think maybe musket and machete?
Classic
After doing all the Who Know's Where battles with 10 idols, I started using Pike for range and armor piercing
I always changed loadouts, tried to never use the same combo twice in one run. Keep the variety.
Always kept the lil
. As bait.
I just ordered my physical copy from Limited Run Games!! YAY!!! If you want to get one hurry before the deadline is upon us! (if there isn't a deadline, LOL, but i think there is) I'M SO EXCITED
Pre-order ends on August 24th!
Machete and musket where my favorite weapons. Maybe not my favorite combo.
Also, war machete + werewhisky = ALL THE DPS
The idol that causes the bombs to drop on death makes a special skill for the pike death to use. The Dragoon Jump from Final Fantasy? That turns into death
That was Hense, if memory serves. "Foes will have vengence in the throes of defeat". 😃 Personally, one of my favorites!
It certainly changes how the game is played
definitely!
Whats the sound effect of a scumbag falling off the edge
The same as Darth Vader saying “Noooooooo”
Galleon mortar will probably always be my favorite weapon
I say do it, NeloAngelo!! I was on the fence for some weeks, then I decided I should do it, because I looove having physical copies of games! Plus it will come with a book of a map, I think, or something like that? So its guaranteed to look beautiful!!!!
Imma get it
YAAAAY
i wouldnt ssay zia is chill
more like she's resigned that everything that's happening is out of her control
Rucks is the past and Zia is the future
^
Rucks wants to fix things and is an old man, with the weight of age and regret on him
Zia is a young woman, with years and years before her and an unpleasent past that she wants to leave behind
hmm i remember reading about that somewhere
back after i first beat bastion
sounds legit
Rucks wants to rewind, to fix all the mistakes he's made, the dialog in the final mission confirms it
yeah but then its heavily implied that they're stuck in a time loop
However, his rewind machine works very, very well and takes them back, leaving no memory
And memory is one the most powerful basis for personality and self
rip
At least, as a writer, these are the things I've gleamed from the game
hmm
what's the right ending in bastion?
imho it's gotta be number 2 but a lot of ppl seem to prefer rewinding
Rewinding puts the world in an endless loop, stuck in time
Yeah but... ng+
Leaving means moving forward, blowing the cores up so they can't be used to power the rewind again
New Game + assumes you rewind but it a way to justify the use of the mechanic of New Game +
Not being able to undo the calamity kind of sucks, but at least it doesn't create the time loop. If you think about it, the loop is kind of horrific. If the Bastion sends them back only a short time, near the beginning of the calamity, then like 90% of all existence is the apocalypse. Endless suffering.
Worse, it means no one grows or changes
Its basically hell
Without memory, there's no stopping the Calamity
Rucks can't even fix his mistakes, as he doesn't remember resetting
It kind of raises a question about free will. Like are they capable of making different choices the next time, or do they do the exact same things again?
Maybe
Small things may chance but with the world reset to a pervious state, everyone is the same as they were on the first time around
A coin flip may be different but where does it ultimatily end?
I feel I must point out I don't know any of what I said for certain and is all conjecture on my part
But what is free will? If they do the exact same things based on the exact same scenario, isn't that free? Do ones choices need to be random (as in have a factor which is not something that is from the outside world) to be free?
I'd argue that if being in the exact same scenario making the exact same choices is just something you'd expect to happen, that you are something that is deterministic. That doesn't do away with free will, in my opinion.
The kid still has the choices to leave or talk zulf and restore or go away everytime
He only needs to make that last choice once to break the loop
I see it as kinda doctor whoesque, like there are points in time where a decision can be made that will shape the future of a region or even the universe
(And that otherwise the course of event is kinda pre-written)
But if you're arguing that being in the exact same situation (in the same mind, etc.) doing different things is free will, wouldn't randomness be a better word for it then free will?
Well it's still free will to me, but like you said with kind of a deterministic/fatalist twist
@hardy grail OOoo you're a writer?? ME TOO! Published anything?!!?!
A poem in middle school and a short story in an online collection
Wait. Does your damage buffs and crit chance affect shots deflected by the idol?
I Power Shot with the Bow, it bounced off an enemy, I reflected it back with the shield, it bounced back AGAIN and hit me for an absurd amount of damage
Riperoni
I turned in all idols for the first time and WHY ARE THEY SO FAST WHY ARE THEY IMMUNING MY DAMAGE WHY IS EVERYTHING EXPLODING?!?
So i turned them off again
Flame Bellows, short controlled bursts and even the Special that sprays out a ring of fire, keep them off you
I think I need to rethink my loadout
everyone knows that machete/bow or pike/pistols are the best loadouts
change my mind
i mained machete/bow
teeY
thanks!
Alright so.
Didn't Rucks, since he worked alongside Zia's father (forgot his name) in creating the Bastion, make himself... immune to the effects of the Restoration protocol?
There's a lot of evidence that suggests Rucks is The Kid himself.
Or maybe a relative.
I thought that was just a fan theory
Actually he would.
"We and Zulf introduce ourselves in kind."
"Both to him... and to each other, for the first time."
yeah i hold by kid=rucks myself
A relative wouldn't need to be introdyced like that though
I'd say it's a cute theory
Rucks could have been the Kid's mother's big brother or something.
Based on what? White hair?
Yeah.
i don't think rucks and the kid are the same person but it's a neat theory and it fits with the timeloopy stuff
"Frail thing with pure white hair like his."
Rucks on the topic of The Kid's mother.
Yeah
all the caelondians had white hair tho didnt they?
Tht doesn't say anything about Rucks specifically
There's no evidence either suggesting that white hair is a Caelondian thing though.
oh ok
But there isn't evidence saying it isn't.
BUT
The way Rucks says
'Frail thing with pure white hair like his.'
Suggests that it's a genetic thing.
For the Kid and his mother.
Between a mum and her kid, yeah
And maybe more of his ancestry.
oh interesting!
Not between Rucks ande the Kid?
Otherwise Rucks wouldn't have noted that.
i gotta go for now have fun
Later
Alright.
Havin' his momma's hair did the Kid no favors when he was growin' up, but he learned to hold his own out there.
^
but also rucks is. Old. so he could just have white hair Because He's Old,
Yeah.
Either or
Don't know exactly how old he is, but still.
Could be speaking from experience
True.
Yeah, Sparrow is what I always thought
He was around for the War as well
Or maybe he in particular needs it because he's old and needs to get used to the world being full of pitfalls into oblivion.
Unlike the Kid, Zia and Zulf who are younger and more capable of adapting.
I also don't think there's any "time-loopy" stuff in Bastion.
The final activation of the Bastion, the 'reset' option, ends the current timeline.
If I had to make a theory on the fly right now.
And returns the world to a previous state. Everyone loses their memories, since the reset is perfect
There's no opportunity for the Kid to become Rucks at all
When you start a New Game Plus, you hear Rucks say "I'll see you in the next one," before the story starts over again.
Also down the line he says "Wait... haven't I... anyway."
I'd say close to perfect, there does seem to be some bleed from his dialog on the second trip
He's a sentimental type
So it's possible that Rucks and/or The Kid have some lingering memories from before Restoration.
In the new time loop.
Which then influenced them to make the Evacuation choice the second time over.
But it's not enough to break the cycle
Possible, but I think that's less imperfection in the Bastionm and more just humour in the writing
There's no canon ending
It's like asking what the canon in Civ is
Except the trophies though.
It's a consession to the nature of New Game + and a clever one at that
When you do Restoration you get the 'True Ending**?**' trophy.
Note the question mark.
When you do Evacuation you get the 'True Ending' trophy, without a question mark.
to be fair
Rucks has all sorts of things in his past, one of which I've wondered about:
What caused him to get al bitter about the gods?
one actually is "an ending"
God damn it I looked up on YouTube hoping to see The Game Theorists having made a game theory about Bastion, but there's nothing. Feels bad lol
it's not about which is like...canonical
just that one is an ending and one kinda isn't
There isn't an achievo called 'true ending'
If one is an ending and the other isn't, then that means that the one that is an ending is canon.
lmao
you can. choose to do either my dude
Oh wait.
Both are conclusins to the story, and the timeline thereof
They're called 'The End' I think.
maybe it's called true ending because that's the only option where it truly ends because restoration just loops back on itself
One or the other.
Yeah, 'the end' is one
Let me find i
'The Beginning" is the other
welp there ya go lol
The Beginning:
Complete the story, embracing the New World
Right.
The End:
Complete the story
nah
Will take place in the universe of Bastion.
if you want to know about sequels id check the #480043381888647168
Yep, the Beginning is New Game +, The End is 'complete the story'
Well, there's also
Calamity Kid
Complete the story in New Game Plus
ahhh alright
True.
We know there is another country out there, the Motherland
Didn't the Calamity obliterate the entire world though?
We don't know
The Spices come from there, Rucks says that's where they are headed
Also if you put some realistic science in there, gravity doesn't exist
🤔
But it's a game, so.
Realistic science? In Bastion?
Ah yeah but doesn't he say something like
"Maybe there's other survivors out there."
Which suggests that it went... pretty damn far.
We don't know
People underground, except for the Tazal Terminals (which were ripped/thrown upwards) survived
Zia survivd in a basement
Yeah, just barely.
The Kid survived in his room
Her door got turned to ash.
He was on the Rippling Walls
Those are some strong damn walls.
Zulf survived at random
Sparrow has the text for alll this stuff
WHat's the last line of Zulf's Who Knows WHere?
They defended against something that came from within the city itself.
Not from something outside.
lemme grab
I'm trying to see if he was underground at the time
he was
But his wife didn't make it
He woke up alone underground, inside the Ura-Caelondia War memorial, built like an Ura den. But somethin' was wrong. He emerged from that hole in the ground, into a wakin' nightmare.
I'd forgotten how painful the irony f that was
his fiancee was in her home and turned to ash while she slept
Interesting...
Well that's funny, huh?
The Calamity splits the earth and destroys the world.
But the people underground?
Nah them people are fine.
zia went home to the den and locked herself in, as her father told her to, and survived when the door turned to ash; rucks doesn't reveal how he survived
They can survive nuclear explosions and sheeit.
well the calamity was sabotaged, remember
Oh yeah true.
Well actually.
Zia's father didn't sabotage the calamity protocol thing.
The Bastion?
Rucks could have been hanging out there, working on it
Yep, I remember that
I don't remember him saying anything about sabotaging it by way of mitigating its effect, only making it happen to the Caelondians when they tried to use it to wipe out the Ura.
Whatever he did messed was pretty impressive cause those spiky rocks only were seen after the Calamity
Fragments of the Calamity itself, I think.
I think the upgrade material for the Calamity Cannon uses it
Did it knock something loose in the world itself?
Something Wrong
The Calamity Cannon can use it as an upgrade material. It is unseen prior to the Calamity in a flake of unusual rock. It is heavy and feels like bone.
I'm gonna try looking up what kinds of stones in real life 'feel like bone'.
At a random guess I was gonna say obsidian, but obsidian is glassy.
He sabotaged the Mancers' little science project. Set it to blow up in their faces. Imagine how Venn must have felt when they finally made him pull that trigger.
the calamity was originally intended to "seal the ura's tunnels shut in a flash"
So I assume it was meant to cause tremors that would make the Ura tunnels cave in.
Instead it caused an armageddon that made the friggin' world split apart lmao
I think science isn't the way to solve the lingering questions with Bastion
It's emotions tied to the characters
When you get the Battering Ram, Rucks states the weight of the Calamity is on our shoulders, due to Caelondia making the bomb to trigger the Calamity
Do we have an inciting incadent that caused the Mancers to set the bomb off?
I haven't played the game in a while but I remember most of the lore from the Who Knows Where's.
Maybe it's because of Zia attempting to escape from Caelondia.
oh coarse language damn it
That made the government and the Mancers and whoever else is high up think 'what if Ura who lived here have gotten out the same way, and have revealed city secrets?'
Because the reason they didn't want Ura who lived in Caelondia to get out was because they didn't want them to leak any secrets to the Ura.
So it may have been a 'just in case, let's wipe them out right now'.
I suppose but man, knowing who Zia is, that is a massive overreaction
Or perhaps it was a punishment to Zia's father, who they, I think, suspected was smuggling people out of the city even though he had nothing to do with it.
So they tried to force him to wipe out his own people.
That's specific to Zia's dad, who was a scientist
The secrecy
Other Ura were just pilgrims to Caelondia
Regular civilians
Let me get this line real quick if I can find it.
" Her folks were orphaned in the War. Taken in and raised inside the City. On condition they never return to the Terminals. 'Ura refugees who came into the city had to stay for life. It was a way to reduce the risk of City secrets leakin' out."
Hm, yeah, that doesn't seen too trusting
Oh, OK
Specifically Zia though, they were suspicious of her because that friend of hers tipped off the authorities
Yeah, true.
So if the Marshals are law enforcement, and the Mancers are like scientists, what are the Gravers?
ayyyyyyyyyyyy
I already own all 3 games
I don't mind double dipping
Yeah, already own all, but these are among the few games I'd consider repurchasing.
I own Bastion three times and bought it a fourth time thanks/due to LRG
But I guess I will buy it a fifth time
Yeah this will be my 3rd, but now Switch is going to be such an ideal way to play
Tried pike and mortar loadout everyone has been suggesting. Beat 10 idol kids dream and singers dream first try!
so thanks
Rifle level with all idols is just frustrating
Beat ng+
The feels are just as strong the second time.
Man I like most of the weapons but the flame blower is actually a little disappointing compared to the rest
Imo
I didn't like it either
My least favorite is actually the machete...IDK why, I could neer get used to it....I liked how powerful the flamethrower was and it was excellent against Peckers!!
Flame Bellows I used mostly for the slow and burn over time paired with Leechaide
The Pistols I could never find a use for and that makes me sad
Aw, those are so much fun!
Roland from the Dark Tower series is one of my favorite characters and not being able to be a gunslinger like him with those weapons was disappointing
Maybe I should give them another try
I say go for it! 😄
The fool - the kid
The magician- zulf
The high priestess - zia
The empress - lmfao
The emperor - lol
The hierophant - rucks
The lovers - complicated answer
The chariot - also be zulf
Strength - zia with a friendly enemy
The hermit - rucks but more emo
Fortune - idk
Justice - zia and zulf
The hanged man - the kid can be here
Death - evacuation ending
Temperance - rolf
The devil - zulf looking angry with his dead wife
The tower - the calamity
The star - zia in a traditional star pose
The moon - lulz
The sun - lmao
Judgement - ura surrounding the kid and zulf
The world - main cast together on the bastion, preferably w/ the evacuation ending playing
I cant believe I thought this all up
"rucks but more emo"

We got windbags that could go on a few cards
I think i'll do pyre and transistor now because im procrasting on homework
The Sun and The Moon: Peckers. Just thousands of burning Peckers lighting up the sky
Bastion on switch is as smooth and beautiful as we hoped.
I'm gonna try transistor tomorrow
So question: Does anyone actually like the Dueling Pistols? I've always found them very mediocre
i thought they were cool, until i used them
Like... their damage is fine, I guess, but having to spam the button is kinda meh, when I can just use the Fang Repeater, which only fires slightly slower than I can usually fire, and also tracks
I loved using them at first because I liked how fast they were and I wanted a fast weapon, but over time I developed more effective strategies with other weapons
that's a good way of putting it. i never figured out a way to abuse the pistols (or the machete) much, but they're still fun.
The Machete, at least, is good for dealing with things in melee range and wallflowers, because of poison
armor-piercing stuff felt much better to me.
but i do think the machete is better, i just used it in almost the same way as the pistols
Machete gets dangerous when you play around with idols
The other difference is that the Machete comes way earlier.
And you can't really miss at melee
Which makes it utility way higher. The Pistols come at a point in the game where you've just got better options both before with upgrades and after without
The one thing I dislike also about the pistols is that the bullets are sloooooow
I never much cared for the Pike either, now that I think about it
well, if we're talking full serious mode, do you use more than one or two setups? or do you fool around with new combos cause the tryhard loadouts you beat everything with make it all too easy?
ooooooo the pike is amaaazing
Yeah stabbity stick is greats
Huge damage pushback and armor piercing
But yeah it's personal preference
I dunno, I just always felt if I wanted a powerful weapon, I had the hammer, if I wanted a thrown weapon, I had the machete.
i literally never throw the pike
Me neither
on the dueling pistols matter, they're the only secondary (aside from sometimes the bow) that I use
I never throw the pike or machete
i use it with the scrap musket, crazy burst and knockoffs
My general go to has been the Machete and Fang Repeater for most levels, sometimes switching to higher range weapons
We have the same set up donkey
do you use cripple or double barrel?
Double barrel
I hate the Fang Repeater, what's the point of shooting if you have to stand still
yesssss
Aiiiiiight
-shrugs- I don't mind the standing still penalty, given it fires so fast
You can just burst through with that set up
the repeater is amazing if you spec it for maximum spray and pray. homing plus extra ammo means you just shoot it on reload and it does all the work
I did mind the standing penalty with the repeater but it might be bad positioning on my part
The one weapon I've probably used less than the pistols though, is the Carbine
I used the Pike/Pistols to carry me through a 10 idol run, dodgerolls and crits for days
Damn
the carbine is my favorite to challenge myself with.
It's just... so slow... at least the bow has poison when you're not trying to get power shots
You don't have to let it focus to max
Long range is kinda bad
Takes too much time
Fair, but meeeeeeehhhhh
i used the pike/musket for first ten idol run except for zia's dream. that one i think i used the mortar and bellows
The Bellows is my jam
my favorite is probably the musket rapidfire
That's a fun one
but the best is definitely the auto-shield
Except for a few levels I never blocked
Just dodge rolled
Are some other players as thick as i am ?
roll is better unless you can reflect. and that takes practice where rollign doesn't
so auto-shield skill was great for guaranteed reflects
Well too many darn ennemies at some point
Ura base with all the critters sheesh
Zulf's challenge is tough too
was his the one with the zillion turrets? i can't remember if i'm thinking of rucks' dream or not
Turrets aren't the problem even though there can be quite a few
Those eye-artichoke guys + the rabbit/birbs
So much critters
eye-artichoke is a great description
Artichoptics
but yeah, that's another place the bellows is wonderful
And that's the one place where my beloved squirtle is useless
Did succeed but like the other two challenges seemed easy compared to that one
I imagine you take the bellow with the shield ?
i definitely think rucks' is the hardest, cause the others you can plan a specific strategy that'll work the whole way through. his has everything tossed together
i think i did that one most recently with cripple musket and the mortar
it was... hectic
And it's easy to get rid off of a lot of the bigger guys before they are fully spawned
Wow
You like hurting yourself dontcha
Is the mortar fast enough with idols on ?
It was always my biggest fear
Never used it
you can either take the upgrade that removes self-damage or don't charge it at all and roll away
that's why musket cripple is so good with it
doesn't matter. just need wide spread so you can hit everything if you get cornered
Always picked narrow, spreads lowers the damage if i remember well
if you have the mortar, you don't need to use the musket for damage
the wide spread still shreds stuff if you're really close anyway
oh, yeah. it's super fun. you can use its homing to bend it around stuff
It has homing ? Noice
I never really used Secret skills until recently.
not as extreme as the repeater, but yeah
I'm always scared to use them up lol
if you're worried about survivability, the cheesiest combo is leechade plus stabsinthe plus lifewine
oh, and if you use the repeater's all-direction burst secret skill, those will home too. so you can get a stupid amount of healing isntantly
omg
I wonder what's the choice other than homing carreaux d'arbalète (forgot the name)
i think ricochet?
i always went with the fire rate increase that also upped spread, since homing was always on
Why would anybody choose ricochet
Tho in the right situation it must be fun to look at
it's fun to shoot someone with a ton of health and still damage everything around him
But standing still smh
yeah. that only works with harder hitting weapons
Isaac and hotline taught me well you don't stand still you restart that level punk
same
i played bastion before i really got into that kinda game, but i've always liked bullet hell/platformer/dungeon crawlers. especially ones with fun movement
The other day a friend of mine was cursing cause he's learning piano and can't move his fingers separately and he told me to try that cause I was making fun of him.
Well it turns out playing with a keyboard kinda teach you that. So thanks hotline miami, isaac and bastion.
Urgh, I hate the ten idol challenges
I could never get very far in them, though I don't claim to be very good at Bastion lol
Any one in particular?
Really, all of them, but in particular the Stranger's Dream. I've yet to even successfully clear it without idols
try lifewine+leechade+stabsinthe as your first three spirits
I always have those three equipped
ah. well, then how often do you shield stuff?
Depends. Not much in the dreams, since there's so much to avoid.
you said you almost never use your secret skills right? try either the most aoe-y one for your weapons or the shield one. then, if you get surrounded that can be kind of an escape
The worst idol, imho is the one that makes you sluggish when you get hit
for sure. especially since without it you can spam roll and be pretty all right, so you might never get used to shielding
i love the scrap musket with the pike. musket specced for cc and the pike for damage
that combo is really good too, but the bellows isn't safe to spam in that dream. so if you tag someone with the burn then blast them away with the musket, you'll be safe, but out of options until it reloads
I've got the Bellows set for high fuel, crippling and lingering burns, damage resist, and the one that ups damage spread but locks you in place, since it's hard to move anyway
I've got the Musket for highest knockback, crippling shots, and long range
if you go knockback, go double barrel. sends them waay farther.
Noted
also all the extra damage.
Well, Knockback and extra damage are mutually exclusive
Oh, gotcha
I just figured slowing the opponent with knockback made sense, but that's also a fair point
yeah, both work pretty well, but i've always loved how dbarrel just launches people
oh, and don't forget to try to use it to knock people off the platform
both to wide or just one? can definitely split it 1/1
Wider spread, Double Barrel, 2x More Knockback, And Faster reload
Mirror Shield
nice. don't forget to use it!
Does Armor Piercing also hit through Garmuth?
Excellent
but not olak
how far'd you get?
I can't get past like, wave 7
maybe try the carbine with maximum charge speed. then on the waves with slow/immobile enemies you can heal yourself back up safely from range. pike/carbine is pretty good. could also go musket with cripple, and carbine. then try scarp salvo as your secret and you've got a lot of space
Ooh, will try at some later point.
I just went back to the game & tried the pike/carbine combo in Zulf's trial, couldn't clear past a certain point because the enemies hit hard & I couldn't keep up with the carbine
Though I haven't upgraded it very much at all, so I imagine max speed would be a lot more conducive to being able to counter the speed enemies have in that particular dream
carbine is a lot worse in zulf's, i think. but the charge speed is pretty much required to make it work in ten idol attempts
Yeah, eventually just devolved into rolling away to a safe distance and firing when I could, which is so inefficient
I guess I'll have to farm for the components needed (? Not sure how, it's been so long since I played bastion)
But I'm going to try for clears now
zulf's trial was the only trial in the game i couldnt complete rip
Rucks gimme the zulf lore gd
i went through almost the entire game only using bow + machete
hmm. those are probably my least used weapons.
I don't think I really ever used the bellows for some reason, but I'll give it a try
me neither
it goes through armor and you can run and gun with it or nuke from behind pillars
It was I while ago so I forget the precise loadout, but when I beat the Stranger's Dream I had the Mortar, and hid behind the rocks the occasionally spawned between waves.
I died on the last wave of Zulf's trial :')))
SAME
If you need a weapon that's good for hit and run use the fang repeater with homing shots
It goes well with something that has armour piercing
Also the damage over time effects are really good with leechade
You can farm the last enemy in each wave for health
I second Flame Bellows with the slow and burn over time, it helps give you space
mortar and pike carried me through all trials with all idols if anyone was looking for a setup
AWACS same. Armor penetration and no self damage upgrades are mandatory
Time for playthrough #15. I just keep coming back to this game every few months. It's beautiful.
i think pike is just really damn good
pike meta is strong
its got great range
good damage
armour piercing
and you can throw it
Also great knockback options so you can push annoying enemies off cliffs
Yeah
It does everything
I ran pike/repeater
Lots of mobility
Lots of range
Never trapped
The repeater covers the pikes weaknesses well
Spec into double ammo capacity, reload it constantly
Lets you hit far away enemies safely
And for good damage
Pike repeater is pretty sweet
My favorite loadout was to stat the machete and spirits into crit buffs. With the 100% crit chance from werewhisky, +200% crit damage, and 2 stacks of cripple/poison you get a lotta damidge
maybe not the best but pretty fun
im bout to start bastion w as many controls mapped to my tablet as i can
this is amazing
i only have 3 buttons on my tablet, plus the pen as right/left mouse buttons
so i have to use space for some things
but most of it is all tablets and tbh, way more intuitive than a controller hfmgngk
lookin at my controls rn....secret skill, interact/evade, reload, and next/prev target are on keyboard
but it lets u map multiple things to one key so hmmstve i might be able to figure out a pure tablet setup later
im more used to transistor so im like "hm squirts are vaguely cell shaped im going to walk through them" and like no you cant!! hdmbmhk
😏
same difference
Who here has preloaded Bastion onto their Nintendo Switch?
I got a mircro sd for it, but haven't actually pre-ordered it
Will be the first time my bf plays which I am very excited for
64 gigs for 17 bucks from amazon
If you're getting a sd card for your switch and you wanna get 64 GB or bigger you need to make sure it's a SDXC type card
Nice. Though I would've sprung for the extra 128GB version
But it's understandable seeing as it wasn't on sale…
I got a 128GB MicroSD card from a store in Akihabara in Japan
It's my third MicroSD card. I'm still on my second
Anyone know how scoring for score attack mode works?
wait never mind I found a way to cheese the achievement
Perfect game YEET
now on to transistor
Gel can op
Can gasfellas talk?
I mean, they can wear hats and coats and stuff
But if they’re sentient, we shouldn’t make juice out of them I think...

100% cannon
0% canon
Bastion comes out today (I’m saying this from Japan)
In two hours time
I already downloaded it, now I just need to unlock it
And then finally! Portable Supergiant!
Aight, preloaded and waiting for the game to go live.
Bastion releases today for switch?
For some reason, i thought it wasn't until the 15th.
Just bought Bastion for my Switch, it's currently downloading!
And it's live!
Finally, Bastion's out. But I can't start it due to my Internet connection. Ugh...
Breakfast? Nah, I'll check out bastion on switch tho
eat a basion
mm delicious
Left my switch at home with Bastion preloaded 😢

Have they commented on a physical release for switch?
I like that party blob emote
@peak horizon no plans for a physical release on Switch right now, but thanks for the interest.
@chrome prawn
Which one is that?
the scintillating rainbow one
Thanks for the reply!
haha came here to ask exactly that. it'd look really nice on my shelf eh
normal brain: not having bastion on your shelf
galaxy brain: making your own case using an empty switch game case and photoshop
There's something so enjoyable about those little cartridges though
universe brain: making a billion empty cases and planting them in stores

I just finished Bastion and...wow. That was an experience.
What ending did you pick?
Save Zulf and Restoration.
Zulf did nothing wrong
Zulf did one or more things wrong
Zulf did every or fewer things wrong
He did very much break the titular bastion
Through his actions, Zulf broke one or fewer Bastions
Zulf chose to react the way he did
Zulf existed
Yikes. And this is all because I saved him.
i mean, you dont have to pretend he's done nothing wrong to forgive him
and you dont need to forgive him to save his life
yeah, i saved his life but sure as hell didnt forgive him
Yeah. That's how I felt. I can't forgive him for nearly destroying the Bastion, but I wasn't gonna leave him for dead.
I now want a mod that replaces the Battering Ram with Zulf
Waddling around, one shotting Ura with him
that would be tortuous for zulf lol
Gotta earn forgiveness
That would be oddly satisfying.
I shouldn't type when sick
penance
So I found a 3d model of one of the ura warriors online and can't help but wonder why there are rocks in his hair.
There'd be rocks in your hair if you were playing with your Rattle-tail right before some Kid showed up with a Galleon Mortar too...
I refuse to believe anyone plays with a Rattle-tail
Rattletails play with my emotions if that counts
They make me wish The Kid had a pick axe to reach the little... punks underground
rattletail was a slur for ura confirmed?
"Rucks in Bastion doesn't lie, but his recounting of the game's backstory comes off as selective and self-justifying, including some whitewashing of aspects of Caelondia's history and culture." from tv tropes, which tells it better than i could
also, i havent played the game in the while
@torn chasm
Makes sense. But he does admit that the Caelondians building the railroad through the Wilds wasn’t so good, seeing as it was Ura land
Reckon he tries to be unbiased, but isn’t really?
The weird part about rucks is that the narration gets all wonky when player enters that one part of the forest
But that doesn't make sense if the story is told in past tense
Maybe the Kid never fully told Rucks what happened out there
It's Rucks' memories of the Kid's own weird recollections
Yeah but iirc he says stuff that doesn't make any sense
Like "it's so easy with this one"
Remind me what the context for that was?
...
"A good story starts at the beginning, it's so easy with this one"
Wacky ironic echo of the opening lines
i thought it was "its not so easy with this one"
👍
I think it's nothing to do with what Rucks is telling Zia, rather, it's part of the representation of how the bog is messing with the Kid's mind. The Kid is supposed to be an extension of the player, so of things get weird for him, it gets weird for the player. Rucks' speech is something that's been with the player all game, so it stays in a 'weird' way
But the narrative
yeah I think it's more of a meta interface screw than anything else
hey
Guys did you hear about
How would YOU like to own your very own life-sized, scale version of the Kid's lifelong friend, the Cael Hammer?! Well, we've commissioned a beautiful replic...
This is so wonderful!! ❣ 😭
It isssss ❤
That's seriously awesome.
Mini hammers for keychains?
Also I can't wait for the winner to break it like the next day
I'm curious why you guys are giving it away, though. Moving offices? Just tired of looking at it?
From the wording of the newsletter I'm understanding this is not a replica of the first one Volpin made, but that original.
Nope, it is not the original! We'd never give that one away. One of our jobs at PAX is basically saying 'no sorry, the hammer isn't for sale.' 😄
Just showed bastion to my friend today, he's loving it so far, as I knew he would 👍
I plan on making a hammer for pax south if I can save up and go
Nice, another pax south goer. I don't think I'll be able to make it next year though
I've never been it'll be my first convention actually
Nice choice for a first then
my first con was Gamergy in Madrid
Are there any weapon perks that are especially good for the machete?
Or is it personal preference?
mostly preference.
it can deal poison dmg over time if you have that perk equipped
loadouts are largely just preference
each weapon can get the job done
Because a higher crit chance (depending on the exact increase in crit chance because I forget what it is) can outweigh the flat damage increase of the other thing
Mixed with some Spirits, you can dish out a frequent amount of crits with the hammer. I took the damage, though.
I like giving the machete dot+cripple and extra crit dmg. If you combine this with werewhisky you get massive damage at the price of high risk. Fun high risk high reward. Works well with lifewine and hearty punch.
Not the strongest build by far but kind of fun. I love hearing that crit sound at the machetes high attack speed mmmm good stuff
finally beat bastion for like the 15th time (first time in ~4 years)
cant wait to go through it again
what happens if you don't show the journal to Zulf? Does he end up reading it anyway?
Probably
does anyone know if the Limited Run sale of a physical ps4 copy of Bastion was a scam? I ordered mine at the end of July and there has been no update to the order
ok i found "Please Note: This item will begin manufacturing after preorders close. We expect to ship it in late September or early October. All orders are considered final and can not be canceled." so i should just sit tight
Go here to keep up to date with updates with regards to the bastion physical game shipping
But otherwise yeah, just sit tight
LRG have been around for a long time from what I know, so definitely not a scam
thanks guys!
wonder what is the "best" loadout
Pike and galleon mortar
all of them
My favorite loadout is the Cael hammer with the army carbine
Shhhh pike mortar is objectively better your opinions are rong.
Pike and carbine and no one can convince me otherwise
1v1 me m8
Yes. Pike and Carbine is a ton of fun.
I once got stuck with a carbine and a flamethrower in a dream sequence. I couldn’t defeat the gator because I had no way to actually damage it lol.
Oh oof
hey real quick
how in the Heck do i kill a stinkeye spawner with the health-regen god on
Idk
pike pistols, fight me
@sweet rain Crit damage?
!!!
nah man, cael hammer and pistols are where its at
cannon/pistols is fun
until you forget which one is which and blow your own face off firing the cannon point blank
That's how the calamity happened :(
Pistols don't do enough damage and hurt my finger
I still get nostalgic when I listen to that awesome soundtrack
https://youtu.be/hVHn0eyGZAA @lyric raft hey youve been there from bastion days.... is this video really logan?
Folks always asking me about Cave Johnson. High time I broke my silence about the likes of him.
i just watched a portal playthru and got hooked and found this while trying to inhale all possible content lol and i was like.....WHOAAAAA
It is!
AAAAAAAAAA
I'm trying to imagine this world where Portal and Bastion exist in the same timeline and it's hurting my brain. Super cool though!
They met via the Aperture Science Multiverse
There was also that portal turret on the pc version
Was there ever an explanation other than "wow what's this weird thing haha"
i think there was a line about it just being at the bastion before anyone showed up
its only on the steam version as far as i know, because valve
Does this mean that Bastion takes place in the same universe as Half Life?
the resonance cascade was the calamity
That vid got me messed right up
Why do i always end up questioning the bastion expanded universe at noon
Going to Dead by Daylight and will try to find person who knows about Bastion, but doesn't own. Giveaway, lol.
Did anyone else order the Bastion PS4 edition from Limited Run? I heard they were going to ship sometime this month but the page still just says "Order Confirmed"
https://limitedrungames.com/pages/production-updates @spark locust
Go here for the shipping updates regarding bastion on ps4
And vita too
Ohhhhhhh, so it's shipping at the end of this week. Okay. Thanks @violet valve!
You're welcome ^_^
Am I the only one who gets through entire levels without using a secret skill because you only get a couple and sure this situation would be a good time to use it but what if there's a worse situation where it'll be more useful and I'll regret wasting a Tonic on it now?
That's me in all games ever
^
If it's a limited resource, I keep it until the end of the game
My inventory in Skyrim is 90% random potions that I might need later.
Like the stamina poison of fortify one handed. Not sure why I have this stuff.
thats a mood
every time i finish an rpg i have so many items that i never used
like if i beat a final fantasy game i tend to have 20 mega elixers just sitting there in my inventory
and 90 hi potions and 80 x potions
ANd whenever you visit a shop you buy a couple more just to be safe
We should call this effect the Masterball Dilemma \o/
Whenever I see another Black Tonic while I'm capped out I can't help but feel the game is lowkey laughing at me
Free 10 xp 👌
Theory that when, while telling the Kid's story to Zia, he gets to the Prosper Bluff part, Zia actually starts playing Build That Wall right then, which is why A. Rucks responds with 'yep, that's the one' and possibly B. It can be clearly heard ingame, even when the Kid's on the other side of the level
I mean, he does say "how does that one go again?" and then she starts playing
So I'm playing a DnD campaign and I've just finished rolling up stats and equipment, but I wanted to roleplay the character inspired by Rucks's character. I just need more clarity on what I could do in character flaws and ideals.
I'm always up for any suggestions
I got the impression he used to dream big in the past and he's pretty disillusioned about his achievements now
So you could go the overly positive or negative route
He was a scientist, and invented the Calamity-causing doomsday device, as well as the Calamity Cannon
He's a heck of a storyteller too
@proud karma I'm playing him essentially as an old man so the negative route is quite the choice. thank you btw
@torn chasm I'm going to write that down may be interesting down the line
I think there's a bit of hubris in there - thinking that he can just fix it all and it'll all be okay, and that can justify a lot of bad things
Actually, he didn't invent it, he was just part of the project to try and find a way to prevent war with the Ura. It was Venn who came up with the idea, and the Mancers that implemented it (though it's entirely possible that Rucks contributed to it, as he had detailed awareness of the project). He also built the Bastion, and specifically the Restoration Protocol. I like the hubris interpretation, and I think you could add just a dash of patriotism and old-school prejudices. It obvious throughout the game that he's a tad biased towards Caelondia, and he admits himself that he should've been more trusting of Zulf
l o r e
It's also here
I had this dream a few minutes ago where a new character was announced for bastion
I wish I could draw what I remember of their design but I don't remember very much and I'm not good at drawing yet
yeah I haven't actually tried to draw anything in a long time so suddenly trying to replicate jen zee's style is a little advanced for me right now x3
hahaaa you dont have to draw like jen zee!! just draw like you!!
itll come to u little by little 💗
I had a dream too
