I know ai related feedback has come up before, so I apologize for doing so yet again. Please can mods, admins, and/or staff revisit the subject? Look at this slop #al-art message Devs have decided to take certain liberties when designing shipgirls. The least this Discord can do is respect real artists who show their love for the game and characters with their own art creations. I am not in many other public Discords, so I do not know how art/creation channels are handled, but the one thing the Umamusume Discord does better than ALO is that they prohibit all ai created works (they also mandate links to sources, but everyone should know how to image search in this day and age, but I digress). There is just so much ai crap in the art channel that it's an eyesore. Everyone is, of course, free to support or use ai tools, regardless of how some may view it. But there should be a place for ai creations. In my opinion, the official AL Discord art channel should not be one of those places. Please revisit the subject of ai created works being posted in this Discord. Thank you.

Firstly, thank you for bringing that image up since it breaks the server rules for an entirely different reason
To just discuss what conclusion we came to the last time we had this discussion, the issue lies in enforcement
While some art, like that image linked are blatantly AI since Eugen literally has 3 hands there, some times it is not clearly obvious
Unfortunately, we do not have the time to check every image closely to verify if they are AI generated art
I imagine that Umamusume gets around this issue by mandating links to sources, since you can tell from the artist if they've been making a lot of AI art, rather than from just standalone pictures
The previously brought up solution in "creating a separate place" brings about the same issues
Yes, some people will follow that, but some will not, whether knowingly or unknowingly, and enforcement will still be an issue
Whether such a half solution is any form of solution really depends on your PoV
Nonetheless yes, we will revisit the issue
I just can't promise anything will be done due to the various challenges mentioned above
We would also not want to put users through so many hoops and hurdles just to post art
posting "sauce" is not a hoop or hurdle imo
what i mean is that it can discourage people from posting art entirely
and even then i dont think it is a good idea to start now
people will push back against such a thing more than the AI pictures if it hasnt been enforced from the very beginning
and "very beginning" has long since sailed
While I'd love to see credit being posted as well, I'll play devil's advocate for a moment. There are a lot of older art pieces still going around from artists who have deactivated their accounts or no longer do art. Asking someone to find and post sauce in such situations would def discourage them from posting. Nobody really claims someone else's as their own, and if another assumes such, they're usually informed the poster is not the original creator. Requiring someone to post if a piece is ai generated instead might be the better way if banning or restricting AI is too much. This puts responsibility on the prompt writer or reposter to inform others instead of everyone wondering and running the post through an ai detector. Unfortunately, there isn't going to be a good, easy, or right answer.
the issue is, and why Ender brought up sourcing to begin with, is that in order to enforce 'you can't post/you need to disclose it's AI' rule, we need to know that it is AI in the first place
sure, in some cases it's very obvious, like the one in question with character having 3 arms, but we don't exactly allow such posts as is, and also they don't need to be 'disclosed' because you can clearly see that it is AI
it will only lead to arguments about whether a post AI or not, especially considering not every piece of art can be reverse searched or sourced (as you pointed out) and even if it can - not always AI generated art is properly marked as such, and ai detectors are pathetically unreliable.
So we'd be adding a rule that cannot be enforced without investigating every post that might potentially be problematic and even then might not give definitive results
I was always on the grounds that even if it's AI, as long as it isn't lewd to break the rules, and that it looks like one of the characters in-game, and that it doesn't give off this weird vibe of having 3-6 things that are blatantly out of place that it could be posted
and ai detectors are pathetically unreliable.
To back this claim up. We have someone who frequently comes into general and proclaims the official shipgirl art is made with AI because they used a AI art checker.
Ai detectors will always suck don't use them
Obv. But thats the point.
yes, we are at the mercy of trusting the artist
