#New Channel Suggestion: #user-reports

TL;DR: I think it would be nice to have a channel for user reports, where we can talk to the admins/mods in a more direct way, without flooding the other channels with "@admin/@moderators".

Long version:
I know this forum may be used for reports, but sometimes we have that one guy who spams things. You know, those cases where you have to act fast and the best way to do so is by getting a ping.

For example, the times when I warn you about uncool stuff, like here:
#tech-support message

That spam wouldn't be deleted so fast if I used this forum, probably. But you know what still bothers me a lot? That I unintentionally "spammed" aswell - me pinging the moderator role like that is kind of an annoyance. Nobody really cares about this message where I'm giving a heads up to the moderators, it's not really necessary, it's out of place, it's not right.

We should, in my opinion, have an #user-reports channel, where we can have a more direct communication with the server administration, without flooding the other channels with unwanted/unnecessary messages.

See here's the thing
This is exactly the kind of case people should ping moderators for though. Because immediate (or close to immediate) reaction is ideal for cases like these to keep the server safe for users.

Having a separate channel for matters that require our immediate attention like this simply will not work, or will end up having the same effect as it does currently.

If you have a normal channel just to plop stuff into, then the issue there is as you rightly pointed out, wouldn't be acted on as fast.

The only way to get a guaranteed quick response is if such reports... Pinged the mod team to begin with, which is exactly what's going on now

#

So I'm not exactly sure how your suggestion is necessarily going to improve things really NagaThonk

Also for the matter, only admins (red) can ban, the moderators (orange) can't

More or less, I'm trying to say that the message is kinda pointless to other people. It may be only relevant to us but not (for example), some random person who wants to have their issue solved, as in the case of tech support usage.

So maybe having a channel dedicated to pinging the admins/mods when needed, things would look more shiny clean to the user, perhaps.
Or if not, maybe we can make a group, where a group of selected people known to help the administration have access to.

#

That is also without saying I hate pinging people, but that's a me problem now. If I had a way to get in touch with you in a more "cooler" way, that'd be nice, heh.

That's just making things unnecessarily complicated though

#

It defeats the entire purpose of having the role pingable at that point

The point is that we need to be easy to contact, so things like these are only going to make things more difficult/intimidate users into inaction

I get it. Also yeah, makes sense if you put it that way on a second thought.
Well, either way, I do apologize for all these pings you guys get! They are annoying, I always imagine you doing something important and then there's me pinging y'all. It's... cringe (to me, I mean I hate doing it).

But if you are okay with it, then I will try to get used to it. ;)

It's kinda part of the responsibilities for being a mod, so yeah don't mind

in my experience not many people know that mod roles are pingable DunktsukiStare

which is a separate issue

Unfortunately, we can't really teach people how to use discord so uh PortDoll

No i mean like they scared to ping mods since they don’t want to be seen as a time waster or a troll

#

Gph used to have that issue but after a few people me started pinging @ mods (for mod things) more and more people got on board ShiSleep

Personally i always encourage it if there are bots and spammers. We don't bite. Its what we are here for BocchiNod

#

exactly, other mods have said the same thing

Yeah if there is an issue like spammers or scam links and there’s currently no mods around in a channel it’s fine to ping the role. Majority of us don’t really mind it especially when it’s to prevent these sort of things

All good. Also feel free to delete the ping when you guys bonk the spammers, or well I guess I could do that myself too since it bothers me so much. Then you'd be wondering who pinged and why though.

It was me obviously. Me wanting ~~a hug ~~appropriate action against the spammers. PortDoll

deleted ping doesn't remove the notification, it just makes us more confused, so please don't delete it
it also has an additional benefit of showing people that mods can be pinged and it's fine to do so

You're really worrying about nothing imo, most people reading them probably don't care for half of your messages anyway, because they're there for something else or whatever, so are you going to delete all those too?

  • A moderator ping is relatively short so it doesn't obstruct chat much at all
