it's pretty unfair for AMD to drop 400-series support - considering most people who bought the R5 3600 probably got a B450 mobo (an X570 mobo would cost as much if not more than the CPU itself). it's not the consumer's fault that AMD delayed B550 for so long and forced "budget" R5 builds to choose last-gen
the official reason AMD is citing for the drop is the lack of space on BIOS chips (16MB vs 32MB)
there are plenty of 400-series boards with 32MB BIOS chips however
it's not an electrical difference like a socket incompatibility, so there's no reason to drop all 400-series boards just bc some have smaller BIOS memory chips
(also there are ways to make it work with 16MB chips anyway but that's a different discussion)

and while some boards may have 32MB BIOS chips that doesn't mean that AMD can use all of that
as board manufacturers might add their own stuff to that
