I wanna do a server with the old pc
that's a piece of cake
sooka
there's even special OSes made for storage servers
Link pls
a simple Google will give you tons of results
all of them have pros and cons
inb4 he just find something you don't recommend
depends
most OSes can do a basic network share
for more complex setups you need special sauce
/mobileshrug
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Mobile Discord is usually so far behind
select alpha testers also have video calls
I like OMV partly because I can run Docker images in it and use my NAS for media stuffs more easily
u know both freenas and unraid support docker and VMs
I mean yes but Debian base simpler for me
(and probably simpler for most people but I digress and also speculate)
I still use mega I don't have any hdd left
You know, I keep forgetting that Mega is a thing, and periodically someone mentions it and I'm like oh

Who remembers Mediafire lol
Used rarely
mediafire still exists
Not for long
Somebody has a ryzen5 3600?
I have a 1600, does that matter?
Well I see 4.2 Ghz is the highest on r5 3600
I just got to work not too long ago lol.
Umm here are the images of my current boards I dug up.
https://imgur.com/a/Uv6xrMa#FXS8afm
Ignore the blue label M, I scavenged that one for parts to fix my silver badge Model M.
60% board is a white Pok3r RGB with MX Blacks and Maxkey SA Ashen R1
TKL board is a black Varmilo VA87M with white LEDs, MX Blacks and Maxkey SA Ninja R1
My current Model M is an early '86 silver badge Model M 1390120 that I bolt modded and swapped the barrel frame out of the blue badge.
My current daily driver at home is a KBD75 v1 with Box Navies and Matt30 MT3 /dev/tty/ keycaps.
Very nice
Also switched to the wireless Logitech G502 Lightspeed with the Hero sensor and that Powerplay charging mat.
And Apple, the bottom out force of Box Whites are around the actuation force of Box Navies IIRC. Also Navies are loud as fuck if you plan to make the switch.
I still think they're not as loud as my Model M though cause mine seems extra ping-y.

I like that cable
kek, time to build up them muscles on your fingers
Kailh
The clicky-tactile Box switches are probably among the best in-production clicky-tactile switches I've come across.
If u keyboard are that gud, the pc is
That linear Ancient Grey box switch though, that thing almost seems like a shitpost.
I like holy panda
For linear I'd like to try out those Gateron Inks but I've sort of gotten tired of linear.
The bronze one

I guess you could save a bit by making your own Holy Pandas
But I'm good with brown
but at that point I'd rather go for some clicky vintage Alps
well show pc
?

I got a 7700k, GTX 1080, 16 GB of RAM and etc.
photo
why black gpu
cause the GPU and motherboard predates the case
so does the RAM actually
which is why it doesn't have RGB
It's a evga?
yea
its the ACX 10xx series card though
the one where EVGA had to either recall or send out thermal pads

I got that GTX 1080 at launch which was not too long before prices went to shit for most GPUs
When the pascal series launched I was 12 years old
i feel old
Anyway 1080 great gpu and great custom
its still doing fine
i dont game as much as I did, I'm currently working on Star Wars Fallen Order and that game runs great
We showing off PCs now?
Mine isn't as snazzy looking, but it is practical and effective
Revy
I swear you practically take your PC out for cleaning at least once a week

Too lazy to go behind and take a picture of my actual PC but here’s my desk
Theoretically three monitors if I’m using the TV
no mat?
the case is a fractal?
oh u have track ball
Should I just toss away my Sd card? I've been trying to format it in cmd for almost an hour and no progress whatsoever. This is my second attempt at formatting the card through cmd. The first time it took too long too so I just yanked it out (it's already in pretty bad shape, its file system is RAW) and so I discovered a whopping 26000-ish bad sectors. I'm asking because I don't want to spend more time trying to fix something unfixable lol
26000
@bleak owl
Yes
Define Nano S
@subtle hawk
@bleak owl I can give specs if you're interested
specs of wut?
The thing I posted
of the pc?
yea pls
R5 1600
Sapphire Pulse RX 5700 XT
16 GB RAM
740 GB worth of SSDs
120 + 120 + 250 + 250
I like it a lot, it's a good card. Linux drivers are fiddly atm
the rxx5700 xt is very gud
With kernel 5.4, the Linux situation seems to have improved a lot
i was supposed to buy a rx 5700 xt but i want to tried a nvidia card
i already have the rx580
I don't like Nvidia cards for desktop use on Linux
They are fine for servers and GPU compute
well u dont use it for gaming i guess
I actually do, Linux gaming is a lot better than it used to be
I use 4.19-LTS on my laptop
can linux download rpg maker?
i used my laptop to play rpg
if linux can download rpg maker guess i will downlaod linux
noone answer my question
4.19 is a super-LTS btw @Dami🐈chan🐇#2228, you can stay there until 2030 apparently
Yes RPG Maker works on Linux @bleak owl, or at least some versions do

bullshit
Yah, they decided to occasionally pick an LTS to be maintained for extra long. 4.4 is the first super-LTS and 4.19 is the second
LTS is at most 10 years
how to download linux?
4.19 dies in 2020
4.4 in 2022
the one with the biggest current window is 3.16 with also 2020
hailing back from 2014
Yeah but that's basically SLTS
5.4 is the next normal LTS, I may stick with it if it good for me
i wanna build a mini pc with raspberry or lote panda
badidea.exe
why bad idea
Underwhelming performance, you would get more effective performance from a random Core 2 Duo PC on eBay for like $40
If you want a small Linux PC for testing, I would go with a used PC, not an RPi or LattePanda
ok i understand
wait the problem is not the perfomance but the portability
Why do you need it portable?
and you think that tinsy pi will hande ur vidya?
I mean, you still need a monitor and crap for the Pi
just get a laptop
nani
not a gaming one that weighs like 10 kilos
Different family of CPUs
but the rpg is really light game
my macbook and surface are barely under the kilo mark
not heavier than ur average textbook
game like this
It isn't about performance, it's that the game won't run because incompatible lol
hm
install it on ur phone
There are different families of CPUs
Most games are made to run on x86-64 CPUs (Intel and AMD)
Raspberry Pi uses an ARM CPU
You can mess around with x86 to ARM translation, but good luck with that lol
install rpg maker on the phone?
the moment u mention gaming u throw arm and linux out the window
The LattePanda uses x86-64, though 🤔
u cant install rpg maker on the phone
Linux is doable but be prepared for some work if a game doesn't start
and most of the game are not compatible
Since Proton launched, it is much better than it used to be

A bit less than half of the Steam library runs well on Linux
in the end ur still running translation or compatibility layers
ubuntu?
Yes, you are taking some performance hit, but not a significant one in some cases
and for what? social standing? no thx I'll enjoy my double click everything works just fine windows
Some games run close to full speed
close
you've got absolutely no reason to use that over windows as a gamer
absolutely. no. reason.
in ur dreams it is
I've said it before, I dislike Windows enough that I would rather take the extra hoops to play on Linux
Performance is fine here
windows is meh
How is that a social standing??
by running linux
That is not a social standing, I gain nothing socially by using Linux
is getting hot here
well cya ur pc is like cursed or smth
like everytime u did smth to it it broke in the worst way possible
also ur pfp reminds me of that 10 hour nya thing I listened to
I run Linux because I dislike Windows, it has nothing to do with proving a point lol
Yamato be like
"Why do you eat apples and not oranges"
And me be like
"I don't like oranges"
do you have like a actual solid reason to dislike it?
or just dislike it cause that's what ppl on /r/linux love to talk about

u don't need full control
i thinks is a personal oppinion
even linux doesn't give you full control
I mean
do you need that level of control?
but windows is the simpliest os
not the simplest
for me
the most adopted and widespread
goddamn
simplest would be Android Go and iOS
I was moving
Anyway, my reasons to dislike Windows 🦊
10 gb of rainbow update
welcome to shifting tides
wait a week
no i use real money to buy her
u need pass then

or uplay+
i cant buy singularly?
u can't whel in the first week
bullshit
been like that for a long ass time
i am still waiting apple's keyboars
- Configuring Windows to the point where it's lean and performant enough for me, with all the desktop customizations I like, takes more time than it does for me on Linux
- Personal past experience with Windows killing itself on me, even without me doing anything. Bad luck or haunted PCs? Maybe lol, but it's been my experience
Not reasons to dislike Windows, just more reasons for me to stick with Linux:
- I like having my servers and desktops have similar environments :3
- Comfort zone; I'm more used to the configuration of Linux desktops
- Would have to relearn stuff to use Windows effectively
and pass/uplay+ owners get them auto unlocked for free from day 1
So you see, I'm not trying to prove any points, I'm just literally autistic LOL
what u unlock if u buy the pass?
well all you listed above are literally just personal pet peeves
Yeah, they're more "reasons I stick with Linux" than "reasons I dislike Windows"
well if u buy it now u get 10% off in the in game store, all year for operators including kali and scuba dude, renown boost per match, xp boost
and some other small things
but anyway, they're enough for me to not really consider a move to Windows
with all 3 OSes
never had one die on me or all my friends/relatives/etc
without user intervention
im learning a lot here
like the moment someone started messing with the logs, registry or system services
it was just a matter of time before it went nuclear
well drivers are aids on any OS
Well yeah, ofc if someone does something stupid to the registry or services, Windows becomes a ticking time bomb
for example my tablet driver has to be restarted everytime I put my mac to sleep
ds3 is ded
wut is ds3 and ds4
nobody even maintains shit for them
ah
DS3 controllers actually work well out of the box on Linux with xboxdrv
because of course some weird old controller works well on Linux
switch controllers work on linux?
Joycons don't work on anything that I know of (yet)
You can pair them with Bluetooth on Linux, where they appear as Joycon (L) and Joycon (R) (two separate controllers). But they don't do anything
they do work but not as HID devices

A controller I've had good luck with xinput for, is the Hori Battlepad
I really like that one actually
wamai looks thicc
including android and iOS
@unborn flicker do you like the GameCube controllers
look at the signals sent by a DS3
Nvm LOL
you'll see how much extra data it sends
xbone controller best controller
Xbox controllers are pretty good, I like the 360 controllers
Not exactly the same, but close enough that it doesn't really matter (mostly)
Anyway, GC controllers are nice for some games, but you can immediately see why they would suck for some other games @unborn flicker
xbox is feel way more better than ds4
came with the pc wireless dongle
There are a number of Switch games where I think the GC-style controllers are basically satanic monstrosities
doubt
A LOT heavier
better
I like GC-style for e.g.:
- Smash Bros
- Turn-based games
- Some PC games
could kill a man with one of those
good quality plastic so obvious is heavier
GC-style is not bad for Warframe, if you care about Warframe
whats GC-style
nobody cares about warframe
GameCube-style controllers

The weirdo I posted earlier
basically the xbox layout
ah
It's Xbox layout but really, really A-button biased
my aim with controller is like stormtropper aim
the switch uses a wannabe xbox layout
Hori Battle Pad is GC layout for the rest of us lol
sorry my aim is less accurate than stormtropper
controllers have aim assist
I really like the GC layout actually, I just reeeally hate it for some games
for smash?
I like DS4 layout
I love it for Smash
I think it's one of the best Smash controllers, actually
DS4 layout is not bad, I like it for shooters
same but i dont wanna pay to play online on the switch
then again I did grow up with the playstations
I prefer DS4 to the older PlayStation controllers
My hands are a bit too big for DS3
u know literally all 3 consoles now need a subscription to play online
Yeah, they do lol
mouse and keyb are the best
and the switch is like dirt cheap compared to xbone or ps4
Not here
10$ gets u a year of membership
Oh, you mean the online part lol
I was thinking you meant the console itself and I was like "what the hell is going on in Yamato's market"
correction it's 20$
20 wut?
i mean 20 box for wut
switch subscription
to play online
death stranding was L I T
sasuga kojima
modern warfare hit me right in the nostalgia
and the new old way of multiplayer works so well
compared to BOIIII
skill based matchmaking
its 20 per year?
it's like 3 a month
I have too many
fire emblem, smash, both pokemons, zelda, atelier ryza, xenoblade, splatoon
and a bunch more
those thighs
xenoblade
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
i was supposed to buy pokemon sw and sh
thicc thighs save lives
there's not much to do in pokemon

i probably buy it when the price is between 20-30
not gonna buy at full price
damn ur right
rarely drop in price
well ye
i find it at full price
i was
heck no
and i got journey for ireland
in ireland they have cex and gamestop
if ur not a pokemon fan then probably not wurf buying
it has literally no tutorial
the gameplay was so short

that shit is just skip skip skip skip
I'm still waiting apple to show me his keyboards
i dunno why is 3.6
in ryzen master it shows 4.1
you need to do a manual bios overclock for windows to register the new clock speed
and by extension any programs that inherit the speed from what windows tells them
btw are you unable to get higher than 4.1 ghz...?
what's the fastest clock speed that you're able to get with a manual overclock
I dunno how to manual
basically you turn off precision boost and lock the speed to a specific number
wtf
it's 1.325v
safe voltage for 2600x is 1.375
amd advertize the 3600x as having higher boost clock but they changed the way they define boost in a really weird way
so I have no idea if a 3600x is going to clock as high as a 2600x
that's why I wanted to know if you did a manual overclock xD
tag me when you want to see how far you can push that cpu
Ok ty
Can u tell the time?
my time rn?
Ye
19:20
lmao good night
Night
pull the ball out and repaint it to look like an eye

Nice UMP
@stone granite don't mislead people
the reported frequency is part of the CPU identifier string
it cannot be changed
changing the OC in windows won't change the reported model speed
those are taken from actually calculating the current BCLK and multiplier values
the one in R15/R20 is the CPU reported string
no theya ren't because my currently multiplier is set to 4.3
I can give you more proof from cinebench that it inherits the windows reported value if you still don't believe me
I'm not seeing any frequency in my CPU identifier string
that's a OCed chip
to what speed? ryzen master or bios?
as u can see from the previous test results
1st result is all-core manual bios overclock
2nd result is default bios settings, all-core manual ryzen master overclock
which motherboard?
5th result is 2 cores disabled in ryzen master, 4.4ghz manual bios overclock
asrock x470 master
looks like the board does report a different string based on BIOS settings
generally they don't change that value
regardless of settings
uhuh
but it's asrock doing asrock things
I have a Gigabyte board in one of my machines, I should test on that one
I overclocked my friend's 2700x and he has crosshair 7 hero and it did the same thing
try urs
Not at this hour
I also have a meme Biostar board lying around, but I'm not going to set it up just for this

could be the newer ryzens
I know 200% that all Intel chips and AMD Epyc along with FX/Opteron do not change the string no matter the clock
meanwhile my 2700 can't sustain 3.75 on all cores for more than 2 minutes with stock fan
is clockpeed really that important ?
not rlly
depends
heavily depends
clock speed only matters when you're comapring two of the same CPU to eachother
and for the vast majority of applications the level of improvement you'd see from messing with it is inconsequential
BUT sometimes, in extremely niche cases, it's a big deal
for example for me, 100mhz is the difference between stutters and silky smooth frametimes in planetside
basically there's no good reason to keep your clock speed low if you can get it higher, cause even though it won't matter 95% of the time, 5% of the time it might
and that's worth it IMO
for me i rarely see differences in clockspeed but this intel turbo auto adjust it to like 4,5Ghz so usualy if i have frame stuters its my GPU and not my CPU even tho my CPU is older
les power draw is lower eletricity bill
my Gpu even deactivate its fan if it is in idle to save power and be super quiet
And 1k of watt
The psu is a rosewill capstone 1000 watt, superflower platform
Bought for only 79box
1000 W ?
Yep
do you need that much power ?
make a setup with 4 GPUs
At the end of the month u watch the elettetricity bill
Lol
Is this what Yostar is doing in maintenance?

@bleak owl here now
sup
u ready for some overclocking bb?
yeah you should save everything
apple where is keyboard
we're going to crash your computer at least twice

you got ryzen master installed?
yea
@bleak owl
ah that was ur keyboard
Alright so basically our first step is to find out how lucky you feel. Guaranteed safe voltage is 1.325v. You can safely run that without any issues no matter what, even if you're hitting your pc to the max all the time.
But technically you can go up to 1.4v if you don't put very much load on your computer
higher voltage is going to mean you can get it to go faster
but also hotter
I would recommend going with the guaranteed safe voltage, but if you've got balls so big that they barely fit through your door we can go for a bit more too
for reference, safe voltage for my cpu is 1.375v and I have it at 1.45
cause I'm a motherfucker
shit is that word going to get me banned
did you set it to that or was that default?
wait
NH-D15?
the only noctua I have are case fans
aight good
I'm still on stock cooler
Alright so yeah just set the voltage to 1.325v
stock cooler is
if you do video editing/streaming use that voltage
set 1.325 on manual?
if you only do videogames and never do video editing/streaming you can set it to 1.35
ok
next you have prime95 downloaded?
yes
and everything is saved? we're going to crash your computer
neither yet
now you set the clock speed
let's start with 4300
I'd be disappointed if a 3600 can't hit that speed so we'll start there
where
ccx0?
all 6
once you've done that and set voltage show me a screenshot of your ryzen master
ok
in prime95 you're going to choose "just overclocking" or whatever that option is, and it should bring you here
i have to restart pc
select "small FFTs" as shown here and click OK so it runs
use this program to keep track of your temperature while the test runs, make sure it doesn't get above 75c
sup
wait i have to redo everything
did you forget to save the profile? :p
tbf that was my fault xD
u didnt tell me
mine doesn't force me to reboot
yup drop it down to 4200
The code is apc index mismatch
keep lowering it by 100 until you can run prime95 for 5 minutes without the PC freezing, and we'll go from there
Ok
hold up what do you mean apc index mismatch?
usually what happens is the computer just locks up
and you have to press the power button to restart it
oh that's awkward
don't worry about it just press the power button so it reboots
Oh yeah dunno
I read what's apc and bla bla
Is ram problem
My ram is not that good
Is a hynix
3200mhz
alright put cpu overclocking on hold, boot into windows and open instances of this program
until it consumes all your memory
and have it run
it'll check if the memory is stable
blue screens usually never happen from cpu overclocking, it makes sense that your issue is ram
yeah
leave it at default 1800
and keep opening more
until all your ram is used
start testing?
yup
when it reach 100% i stop the test?
yup
but it's super important that all your ram is used, it isn't a reliable test otherwise
so you might be unable to use your pc for a little bit
while it tests
i should bought corsair ram
so if an error shows up you don't need to continue testing
we can fix it ourselves in your bios
like lowing the mhz?
but running windows with ram that produces errors is really bad
that's one way to do it
the good ram isn't being made anymore
so honestly unless you got some a few months ago you're stuck with sub optimal choices anyway
i got this pc recenlty
I got b-die just over a year ago
and it was only slightly more expensive
like 20%

now it's like twice the cost
so yeah unless you got bdie while it was still being manufactured you don't really have a great choice for ryzen anyway

well at bf 32 gb 3200 only 120 euro
but the ram was white
this one
but its ugly so i didnt buy it

65% still 0 error
you can if you want but that's way past the safe limit
wydm
it's important to know what you're getting into
Okay, so basically, in your cpu it's possible for electrons to get "stuck"
when electrons get "stuck" it degrades the cpu and reduces how fast it can go
the more voltage you use, the faster electrons will get stuck
and the quicker it will degrade
yeah you can close them then
ok i understand
1.325v is the guaranteed safe voltage where no electrons will get stuck
if i put 143125 the cpu will be consumed
or well, no more than normal
it won't
but it will degrade faster
I run 1.45v
on my cpu
safe limit for mine is 1.375v
stock voltage is controlled by precision boost overdrive
it's not a manual fixed voltage
oh
that was the default voltage for the manual fixed voltage
well i try 4200 now
I don't know why it's so high
1.35v?
I would recommend it
save profile and apply?
yup
what do you mean
oh it wants you to choose which profile slot to use?
just go with profile 1
yes
ok
it's a safety to make sure you don't lock up your pc
lock up?
you boot with broken settings still there
wait no reboot this time
basically bricking your system
should i reboot or start prime95?
anyway, it shouldn't restart you anymore
without rebooting

run prime95
yup
small FFTs
make sure to keep an eye on voltage and temperatre with hwinfo
temp needs to stay below 75c, voltage needs to stay at or below where you set it
some motherboards supply the wrong voltage and you need to watch for it
which
with bluescreen?
Yep
I didn't see any freeze
just stock settings
I mean it turn off like 10 sec after the test
what was temperature when it shut off?
sounds good
keep[ an eye on your temperatures
especially motherboard temperatures
sounds like your voltage regulator is overheating or something similar
Ok
if any of these temps get above 75 then it's probably temperature protection related
no idea what that means
Voltage is 1.35
what's that one at 84
The cpu degrees
well looks like we found your problem
yup
How
just close it
it shouldn't be getting that hot at 1.35v with the cooler you've got
so you have case airflow problems or it isn't mounted properly on the cpu
or it's just a shit cooler but I have no way of knowing without having used it myself
Well I have 3 fans on push
ya boy jeff got a fancy build eh
Btw the clockspeed just dropdown
mine's just a giant heatsink crammed into an old case lmao
but honestly every time I've tried to overclock someone's pc and they didn't have this cooler they ran into temperature problems really quickly
at this point I feel like water is worse than air lmao
is that a twin tower or single tower?
oh god it's those turbo expensive fans
he's talking about the rbg ones lol
They are cheap
jesas
then again I do have all LL140s

well considering you've got the money to throw around to spend 75 bucks on fans
pick up an NH-D15 if you're serious about overclocking your cpu
U don't use screw to put them in the case
mine are jampacked with RGB so I can see why they're expensive
just set it back to precision boost
1.42 V gang
1.425?
420
the software is best at managing things if you are heat limited

pretty shit
