Now that I use wayland I'll need to find alternatives to those utilities
Shouldn't be too difficult, I think, but I haven't researched that yet
Arch
I had to ask, because only a nerd would use Wayland ;)
... Ubuntu 18.04+ uses wayland now though?
18.04 uses X by default
hmm
They switched back after using Wayland in 17.10 by default
ah, yeah
I use Fedora actually, but I run X on it
mine is X too
hmm i wonder if the RPI 4 can compete with my FX-6300 trying to generate that terrain
not really
Probably not, even though the FX is quite old
it can only use one core though
like my work comp has far worse stats but hyperthreading makes it twice as fast as the FX
since the FX is like what, 3.5 GHz? Even with half the IPC it'll probably be a wash
But it's not half the IPC
P:
btw at least tell me what Distro is gud for general use/ has nice UI customization while still looking Windows-like so I can at least consider installing it on my laptop
also x86 nowadays is so pipelined that IPC is really high
Ubuntu MATE? Zorin?
yeah its like
work comp: 4 seconds
FX: 8 seconds
PI3: 40 seconds
but i think alot of that is ram
As few uses for command line as much as possible
If Windows-like, then anything that can run KDE?
Is KDE more stable these days? I haven't used it at length since 4.x
also good support for Wine so I can run Office on it
I would recommend what I'm using but Arch is really not beginner friendly
but if so then Kubuntu
thanks for everyone who helped me for the past couple of days
it's working fine now, besides the fact that i have to go return the gpu sometime this month
if i used linux, id probably go with debian, just cuz im so used to raspian
ALSO a distro that lets you have a completely transparent taskbar
Kubuntu
probably kubuntu
I like Debian and I used it for a while, but everything's so old :(
or you can code a way to make the taskbar clear
no thanks
But boi is Debian stable
Never really used KDE aside from running a Kubuntu LiveCD once, can't say anything about its stability
me too
also I need absolute stability
I'm currently using xfce
I used KDE for a time while I was on Ubuntu but it was kind of a dud. But that was back in the KDE 4.x days
is debain outdated or something?
No gaming needed because my laptop potato
yeah and then raspian runs older debian so its the most "stable"
Honestly Ubuntu MATE is probably a great pick but IDK how much you'll like the UI
So yeah just general schoolwork (making documents), internet browsing, has cool customization options with a familiar interface
That's all
but you can customize the UI easily to look more Windows-y
I use MATE, Xfce has a weird window manager bug for me with the Android SDK emulator @subtle hawk
tbh i dont notice a difference UI wise going from windows to raspian, its just a different color
but I prefer MATE anyway. Ubuntu 8.10 was my first Linux and it rocked GNOME 2
ah
and MATE is just GNOME 2 but better
Always found that thing's UI funky
so it's a win
GNOME 3 was sooooo weird
I can live with it but it's
a strange experience
Keep It Simple my ass. Keep saying that Arch
Arch has a very specific definition of simple. It's "simple from a programming standpoint," not "simple from a user's standpoint"
These two things are pretty much mutually exclusive
there are not programmers on the planet that understand how customizable i want my UI
but yeah just throw at me some recommendations so I can get this over with please
probably ubuntu like they said
Just general use with lots of UI customizibility
Ubuntu MATE (use snap to install latest LibreOffice)
btw libre office is just a reskinned and unorganized version of office
I don't like the Ubuntu look
I have both latest and lts kernel
Ubuntu MATE, not regular Ubuntu
MATE still looks like normal ubuntu to me
hm
Arch tends to break AUR stuff imo, because of updates of related packages from official Arch repos
you can change that I think
confession: I actually kinda dig Metro
You can change the fonts and theming
so you either makepkg -si all over again, or pray it doesn't break
so something Metro or Aero-like would be cool
With a GUI I should add
5.x kernel has been very kind to me
For me, the desktop ranking is probably something like:
MATE (GNOME 2) > Xfce > Cinnamon > GNOME 3 Flashback > LXDE > KDE 4 > GNOME 3 > Enlightenment
Have not used at length:
Budgie, KDE 5
Elementary looks quite nice tho
Enlightenment was a very weird experience for me
Elementary has some nice things going for it
It's more Mac-like but it looks clean and simple
It's Ubuntu-based so stability should be good
like i did libre excel on my RPI for making graphs for physics II lab and everything from excel is there, but its just even harder to find
for me it's like using office 2003
ouch
or just install manjaro
Manjaro has most of the Arch benefits without the hassle of setting up Arch
I see that every Linux interface by default basically uses the same fucking font.
Every one of them
but you still have the other downsides of Arch, such as occasional rare breakages
yeah
which is not a big deal but it's offputting for a beginner
hm
also lol mine is very android like
wait you cant edit the font it uses?
You can
like people said it's very customizable
i was about to say
But please, please just let me:
- change window font
- change window look (or hell, the entirety of the general soft-ass curvy soft color look)
- make taskbar transparent
That's all I want with customization
notepad been doing that since 2001
Actually if that's all you want then MATE is fine
If you want something that's very Windows XP-like, TDE is a good choice for desktop.
It even includes its own version of Internet Explorer 6 Konqueror 3 that's absolutely dogshit at loading modern websites.
oof
I can't believe they're still maintaining Konqueror 3, that's hilarious
im fairly certain that window customization is so universal, its implemented in hardware now /s
but yeah anything with MATE then?
I thought it's read like m8
It's a kind of herb from South America
who yells CHOTTO MATTE! when you start spam clicking cuz its running slow
Yeah. And I would do Ubuntu MATE mainly because Ubuntu base and Ubuntu base is pretty straightforward
and very stable
yeah
Mint MATE?
but do not be a disgrace to society and make your taskbar run on the side
Mint MATE is also fine
@severe falcon oh, you won't like what I'm doing on desktop
its running on the RIGHT side isnt it?
It's running on the RIGHT side
I always have problems with sideways taskbar
you are cancer
but yeah you guys gotta tell me how to customize those things once i get 'em running
In fact, there are two bars on the RIGHT side
I'll
I have a Plank dock in the top right and a MATE panel in the bottom right because I'm a horrible, terrible person
MATE it is then
Also yeah I'll do that
Just wanna get rid of the Ubuntu look as quickly as possible
the anime assistant needs to literally grab both of those bars and throw them to the bottom
Just ping me
jesus
I got used to side-mounted panels after using MX Linux for a time
Ditch the Ubuntu and go with 10 Metro/Aero
I also use Alt+J for my drop-down terminal
actually, i now want to make anime girl assistant in python
real quick: GNOME vs MATE
you just ask her stuff and she searches for it either on the internet or in the computer
anime bonzi buddy
thats everything cortana and siri do on computers right?
MATE is a continuation of GNOME 2, with very customizable panels and aesthetic
GNOME 3 has very, very low customization by default and requires you to jump through some more hoops
Good luck
actually right side taskbar is better than left because at least you know youre trash if you have it on the right
Whether you like it or not, it's whatever
I only have it like that on desktop; on laptop I have it on the bottom. Because fuck being consistent
i keep it on top for my pi
That's the Raspbian default, right?
yeah
but the tiny resolution of the screen makes it weird on the bottom
its 800 x like 400 or something dumb
Lol
Aw
nope i found it
KDE gud tho?
you can infact use the windows API to make it invisible
AND YOU CAN CLICK ICONS BEHIND IT
also isn't regular ubuntu uses gnome 3
i can have her run all over the screen
Regular Ubuntu uses GNOME 3
I can't comment on the most recent versions of KDE; I liked KDE 4 except that it was buggy af
OH DEAR
I used KDE 5 very briefly to see what it was like, which doesn't paint a picture of long-term stability

do it
Seems like I'm one of those who doesn't give a damn about taskbar position lol
Used Windows 8.1 before Linux with bottom taskbar
Then Unity from Ubuntu 14.04 with left
I'm just so used to bottom
Then i3 with top
In all cases I was like "eh, whatever"
"will get used to in a week at most"
I use what I feel is comfortable for me
Hence right for desktop, bottom for laptop
alrighty, chotto mate it is then

Have fun, or not
now I feel tempted to make a Chotto OS running solely on MATE just for the sake of the pun
bruh if they made a desktop with the same idea as the 8.1 phone app screen
what is going on in this thread
Key feature: hangs a ton
are we having a DE war ?
we talking linux and random stuff
Nothing, just me freaking out over Linux
Yep
what can I say
we is recommending @tame topaz a linux flavor
u all have shit taste in DEs
except you're welcome?

So what do you use smarty pants
yamato over here with his custom made linux DE
lmao

wrote it in C in 1997
as if
huh
So, Blackbox?
but seriously tho what DE
MATE seems nice but not entirely sure about its capabilities
I want something close to a total conversion
From Linux-like to Metro or something
basically u want windows but linux
raspian
which defeats the point of linux
how about linux but no taskbar
Also just something nice and clean and not old-looking (tho XP-like is fine)
but my taskbar is already transparent
Fuzzy fuzzums
but yes Windows but Linux is exactly what I want
switching from windows to linux means you'll be giving up a lot of creature comforts
I want a DE that can provide Classic Shell levels of customizibility
nah see yama has a transparent taskbar but his background is randomly generated 3d fractals from his nimi server farm
the nimi comp better have a bow on it
but yeah back on topic
awww
@unkempt slate your master doesnt want to make you look pretty
shes about to ban me
some nice customizibility but good for just office use and nothing else
What specs are on the cyaneko server
then Yamato be like "what's important is not looks, but inner beauty"
I mean to be fair, when talking about servers...
and then we look at the uncommented code of nimi
I hope Nimi's code looks readable
I wrote a wiki scraper, IDK if it still works after the website layout changes
looks at the binaries yeahhhh about that
And then I put it in a bot
but yes I just find the default UI of many distros unappealing
i also wrote a wiki scraper
I want a bit of a total conversion like I said
but then found out how to make the wiki export everything
I just queried the wiki database directly
i just make the wiki give me the download link to the full tables
alright MATE like you guys said then, fine
I'll try it out after I'm done grinding AS for the final day
Ubuntu MATE has some nice preset customization options if you want a starting point
First off: sharper windows.
@unborn flicker server specs and stuff though
I don't like the curved edges.
yama, do i need to show you the first iteration of nimi searching the wiki?
yeah just ditch the shaded and curve-edged windows and I'll be just fine
i dont have the meme version but ill post
@tame topaz just a different theme should do it
Just a link, huh
nah I intend to run it on my own laptop not the damn family desktop
also lol
the meme version was i added helena but deep fried and put an E on there
yeah helena was what you got if you searched "e"
@subtle hawk may won't since windows 10 is getting kinda hardware-demanding
Well I am gone now
4 gigs of RAM and a CPU from like 9 years ago
i though win10 used the least hardware demand of 7,8 and 10
idk
Windows 10 IoT Core I know
bruh the cpu from 9 years ago is your problem
have you thought that the hardware is just THAT old?
installing linux won't make it magically better again
And a change of pace
and btw I don't have money for a new laptop if that ain't obvious enough already
Alright fine I'll take MATE then
Might as well make a live USB right now
although that 2 gb is reported by msi afterburner and im not sure exactly how accurate it is
uses runescape as an example because thats the most intensive game that supports linux
im waiting for games to get ARM support so i can game on my RPi
yes you can
I'm pretty sure rpi's gpu isn't suited for that
what GPU?
i have a touchscreen monitor for my rpi
supposedly can do 10 point touch but the rpi only detects one
i wonder if RPI4 could actually run ocarina of time
gonna play OOT randomizer on the go
oh lol
yeah the RPI3 can do PS1 games decently if you overclock it
it can do all 2d pokemon games perfectly tho
that's why a pi is only good for retro games
I keep confusing it with a link to the past
i mean it did platinum at 60 fps or whatever the DS runs it at
yeah it looked like it was straight from a DS
but pokemon doesn't fully 60fps until BW
it ran PS1 games better than my PS2
i dont think anything on the planet can run Shadow of the Colossus better than a PS2 tho
does anyone on here know of some software or something that lets you make 3d shapes from triangles and squares, etc?
i mean yeah i have blender so i can do 3d medelling but im talking like shapes that have the exact same edge lengths and can only scale
cuz i wanna make some weird, but mathematically perfect 3d shapes
like i mean this kinda thing
where every single line is the exact same length and every point is in the exact right spot
that would take literal hours with blender
so i was wondering if there was a software for exactly this
cuz ive seen some crazy octagonal prisms with a triangular cupola on the top and a pentagonal cupola on the bottom or whatever
is it really fucking cold in data center ?
holy shite
its like 5 degrees celsius here
and server racks here looks like coffin
now thats not normal
i might be in morgue
are you sure you are not at the body storage of a funeral home?
oh those arent coffins
that's a small class data center
Yes
But its plenty
Its like commercial ISP are connecting here in this data center
And the security is so freaking high
i think all of our security is software related
except for basic building security
@fickle crest I literally saw that video pop into my recommended
sasuga youtube algo
They be watchin us
does anyone know
if i can have both hdmi and displayport
connect to the same monitor
i want to test something out
ye
you'll just need to switch inputs
for example my gaming monitor has DP hooked to pc
and HDMI to my switch
yeah
my 5700xt
only reads hdmi
and can't read displayport
in all 3 of its slots

nah
it worked fine
with my old pc
just tested it out
im not tryna play in 60 fps
okay
i think im kinda close to figuring it out
i used the display port as 2nd monitor
and tried changing the hz and whatnot
and it worked sort of
but when i plugged out the hdmi
it got no signal again
have u thought that ur not using the right input
wdym
like did u specifically go into monitor menu and tell it to use DP signal instead of HDMI?
mine has a shortcut button for that
but not all models do
@subtle hawk what's DP
DisplayPort
Is it better than hmdi
duuh
o
Wait does my rog have a dp
ye
Oh ok, it does come with display port and hdmi
But it's ok yamato, it's my first powerful monitor
hdmi is stuck at 60fps
display port can go higher
which is what matters to me the most
i can't play at 60 fps anymore
but now i got it to work
i made it duplicate displays
then made 144hz Displayport as primary
What do I plug the other side into
So I plug one side to the monitor, where do I plug the other part
HDMI can go above 60hz but you need like version 1.3 or some shit
1.4
yeah
its easier to just but a display port cable and use that
Just use https://www.testufo.com/ to see if your shit is running at 144hz or whatever when you get it setup Aria
but it matches my nzxt case
then I guess go for it
god that looks tacky af
It's inside a white case and I don't use it with the rainbow vomit.
I don't have a gpu
RTX 2070 super?
$529.99 before taxes
just don't get a blower card
Then again you don't really do much AAA gaming though IIRC
5700xt wasn't as loud as i expected it to be
I kinda wanna try a mini-ITX build next time I replace all my shit...
Well mith
I here rtx 2080 is really good for visual research in programming
So I'm wait next year for it
Cause I'm first gonna get my new build, then gpu
mm
well the 3900x doesn't have integrated graphics (APU)
so you gonna need to find something as a stop gap
most AMD chips don't have iGPUs
The enthusiast ones don't
I thought the ones with no letter had them
no
Nah, no reason to if I'm going to upgrade near future
or even a 750ti
not this is spicy
What the heck
Hopefully we will
Biostar and Asrock are known for these kinda things
and honestly I wanna buy at least a pi zero w now ngl
just to fuck around
Right now, the main boards I've seen of this type with Zen are for industrial/embedded systems
Wonder if the Jetson Nano is any good
It's good for the specific things that require GPU acceleration and CUDA stuff
otherwise eh
I've heard the quality control on some of the Orange Pis is pretty low, too
The Pine64 is also pretty neat
is the orange pi made by the same company?
No they're Chinese
ah ok
The Pine64? Also no.
btw how do you even plug in peripherals for the zero
for the rpi zero?
You need a USB OTG adapter
USB hub if you need more than one peripheral
Again I still don't have that much money
and once again besides just having fun I don't see an use for it
I think a valid use case would be like Pi-hole or something
yeah that would be good
Pi-hole is nice, I run it on my home server
I have an rpi but I can't use it for pi-hole because I'm on uni internet
I don't use pihole
bcz it's garbage
everything is garbage to you yama
for ppl that have no idea how to use linux it's decent
but for anyone that has a mild idea how to manage a server can do a better job
well most people don't have a server so
rpi zero super computer
lol how are you going to parallelize it
@subtle hawk get more of them
yeah i mean they are $5

I meant how to communicate between modules very quickly
ethernet
should be plenty
uhh ive seen them make basically the equivalent of an SLI bridge
zeros dont have ethernet
just a micro usb
i mean i guess you can get an adapter but the adapter is porbably more expensive than the zero
ive just seen them make a board with arrays of micro USBs sticking out of it
one array fro power, the other for data
wifi is a thing
yeah but you already laugh at me for using wifi
you use a isolated network between them
like point blank
besides you won't go to speeds over 50-100Mbits
oh and router has what like 200ish slots for addressing?
i cant remember all the info from networking class
ah
in the /24 subaddress
yeah thats the stuff my brain learned for the test and then forgot
something something prefixes, something something subnet
Custom interconnect with GPIO pins
no but then youre getting into that old hawaiian military network of trying to all communicate on a single wire
I like my idea because it's terrible
i mean modern tech is so fast that you probably wouldnt notice much of a difference until you measured it against a good idea
enjoy the overhead
ALOHAnet, also known as the ALOHA System, or simply ALOHA, was a pioneering computer networking system developed at the University of Hawaii. ALOHAnet became operational in June, 1971, providing the first public demonstration of a wireless packet data network. ALOHA origin...
also i found out the other day that alot of programming languages and by extension most programs use the exact same random number generator
The Mersenne twister?
yeah
It's quite popular for simple RNG, you don't want to use it for cryptography tho
meanwhile nintendo made its own RNG for SM64
For crypto you want something better, like urandom
tbh i wish there was alot more info on actually making random number generators
Look into algorithms that demonstrate the avalanche effect @severe falcon and try applying them with timestamps as seeds
ah i see
i remember one of my professors used LISP and made a random number generator but perfectly shuffling a list multiple times
created chaos from perfect order
Lisp, did you mean (()()()(((()((((())))()))))())())))
yeah
taught us our pathetic C++ and Java cannot compare to LISP and its knowledge of what the first digit of 1000! was
lisp is meh
did somebody say wifi?
LOOOL
Darn conflicting technologies... Apparently Nox/Bluestacks really doesn't play nicely if you enable Windows Sandbox
To the point of "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION" blue screens
@obtuse dawn >don't play nicely
well no shit
Windows Sandbox uses Hyper-V
while any emu uses KVM
so when you try to run 2 virtualization implementations that are completely different from each other
well
everything windows VM related runs on Hyper-V
docker on windows too
Makes me kinda glad I didn't try to launch a virtualbox VM
it would give you the same result
Hypervisors
Yeah, I know.
since under the hood nox/bluestacks/whatever run a virtualbox VM
Don't I know it... Breaks an existing Virtualbox install if you install Nox too =/
I try to run everything in KVM on my desktop
But reinstalling Virtualbox doesn't break Nox
specifically for nox
Hey Yamato, what are your thoughts on GNOME Boxes
inb4 "it sucks if you know what you're doing with VMs"
meh
I have a hard drive on my list of things to get for my desktop, so I can dual-boot Linux on it
I rarely use the DE in linux
Don't feel like messing with partitioning at the moment
since things are easier to do from CLI
^
I use the DE a lot since it's my primary desktop OS P:
I use kde more than anything.
what is kde, ive only heard it cuz kolourpaint names all its folders that
I have MATE right now on my machine but I'm considering swapping back to KDE at some point.
I'd have used i3-gaps but I have to go reinstall the gaps part of it
looks good enough for simple desk
man yama how did you break into my house?
oh well make the upload about 5 Mbps and thats my normal 100 Mbps internet service
@brave anchor Which district you tested in KL?
Cuz maxis should be good in the capital city
Hm... If all I'm doing is string comparison on input, is there a reason to sanitize it?
In terms of javascript for a Twitch bot. I read in the message text, check for a specific phrase, and then return a message if that phrase is there
Should be fine if that's all you're doing
Yeah, it's all I'm doing for now. If I get to more advanced stuff for sure I'd sanitize what's coming in
@obtuse dawn you always sanitize inputs to DB or when running something internally
if it's just parameters you can be more lax
Well, I'm receiving it from a function, so for all I know it comes pre-sanitized
Gonna need this later
backend dev here
stormwall is russian made anti-ddos ?
what's the goto for cpu benchmarks?
danke
am sad because cant turn rpi 4 into decent laptop
@noble jolt sup
@subtle hawk i'm part of a startup and we're trying to find one
how do
i stuck up some adds on indeed for now, hopefully we can trap someone local
I think youโd have better luck looking at LinkedIn because Iโm still in uni, at least in my case
(what region are you guys though)

btw
darn
getting a fullstack is a bad idea
good luck anyways trying to find prospects
also that
you probably want to find more people with specialized skillsets
as opposed to solely seeking out jacks
we're just trying to develop a mvp for now
you're better off getting more personnel than a jack of all trades
Agree
ofc u have to
msi afterburner can do it
On Loonix you can do watch sensors in a terminal
aida64 can do it
OpenHardwareMonitor can do it too
i use OHM
OHM seems to not have fantastic platform support for systems from the last couple of years
https://twitter.com/isaparrot/status/1163824288148983814
Dunno if its real or not but:
PlayStation V
V Shaped
Kek
โ
gonna be honest, if they turned that design into a CPU heatsink id buy it right now
lets hope that the PS5 can compete with its great grandmother
We need our big chunky metallic heatsinks again
oh i just looked and PS1 has actually sold more than the PS3 and PS4
thought the 4 is only 2 mil away from beating it
@severe falcon PS2
ps1 came back when if you wanted to play games, the console was pretty much what the vast majority of people would go for, pc gaming did exist but they where still pretty complicated to build for the average person to build, internet itself was a new concept and phones where bricks, ps2 was pretty much the golden age consoles, nowadays consoles are just 1 way of many to play games, we now have nintendo, pc and even phones to play games on
Does android allow bash scripts to be run?
Hey guys my sd card got corrupted is there any way to recover my files there?
I have like a lot of personal pics in it
@flint bobcat you can get bash terminal emulators for Android
@wooden geyser depends on how badly corrupted the card is, but it is possible in theory - you may or may not be able to get everything from it
at least better than when I snapped my micro sd card
Is this safe? Or no? I accidentally dropped my other phone on the battery when i wad putting back the sd card
But it will effect battery performance right?
no
so do i have to get a replacement one?
@wooden geyser if it starts swelling then yes you definitely need a new one
but the indent doesn't look that deep to get to the lithium layers
I opened a backpack that i hadnt used in a while and i found my windows tablet looking like a pillow cuz the battery became an airbag
Oh shit
is gtx 1660 good for med gaming
If you only want medium settings, the RX 570 is still a good buy, considering the sales on it
You can get them for cheap and they outperform the GTX 1650 by a small amount
Not really, I've always had good results from them
yes really
If anything I generally have worse results from Nvidia drivers
running them for games is nothing compared to actual workflow utilization
The question above only pertains to gaming
even in gaming radeon drivers usually underperform
due to their shittier API implementation
I'm not sure where you're getting that idea from
not an anecdone
I can't get numbers right now but I can go dig up my older cards if you really want to
and get the driver archive
Me (and a number of people I know) have regularly had stability issues from Nvidia drivers
Friend has a 1660 Ti that's currently burning on latest drivers
which is the most recent case
I said hardware not the GPU
what motherboard, what CPU, what monitor at what res and refresh rate
as well as if any modification have been made to the clocks of the CPU and RAM
that's what I thought
Another acquaintance had a 1060 in a Kaby Intel system that also regularly burned up
stability issues manifesting themselves as?
Suspend bugs, graphical artifacting, etc.
what exact GPU model
IDR, it's physically dead now
because someone tried to fix it and killed it in the process :|
Yeah, small system. But probably not heat issues
probably not
200% that was it
nvidia cards have a clock curve that makes it downclock the card the higher in temps it goes
and running it constantly hot can ruin joints
same happens to some AMD cards
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
Well, it's dead now, so not much that can be done
Oddly, the most stable card I've had is actually probably the R7 250 that I used as a placeholder card for a short while
I liked that card, actually. It was an oversized potato, but it did what it had to
I'll agree that, at least in my experience, AMD drivers around 2015 were very, very bad
Not so much nowadays, regularly have good results
Protip: If requiring Python code to be submitted via a text box, make sure said text box doesn't do some silly thing like strip extra whitespace from the start of lines.
Oh no
@subtle hawk yo can lightning cause interference on a USB 3.0 scanner cable? 3 pages that i scanned came out as pure noise
no
bruh wtf then
unless it's some super shitty unshielded cable
but even then
the EMP blast from lightning is negligible
could just be a bad connection
it runs alongside the ethernet cable
unless they run inside the same cable they won't interfere with each other
bruh my scanner is haunted
oh well it also runs next to the cord of a powerstrip
now that sounds more likely
hmm so maybe a slight powersurge from lightning?
though i cant actually hear any thunder
then its ghosts
im wondering if the school will let us keep the VR stuff
cuz apparently each student is getting an Oculus Quest for a class im in
@subtle hawk any idea if its possible to wash a microfiber cloth?
yeah but not rlly
@stone wave I need help
?
pull?
they should pop off
They're welded in
yeah i think you have to break them off
Oh I hate those. Just rock them back and forth until they come off @flint bobcat
Ok
Put a phillips head screwdriver into the + shape
and then just rock it until the thing falls out
That's how budget cases do
What're the rest of the specs?
the past two cases ive gotten had them screwed in so you could put them back
You can always buy PCIe brackets later if you need to cover them back up
They sell black ones if you need it to match your case
Put what back in
The back plate orientation
:notlikethis
Oh figured it out
Nvm
@gloomy tinsel what's that port on the gpu
On the top of it
It's 8 pins
power
yes
Then ur doing it wrong
no you need to combine the 6 and 2 into one and then plug it in
it worked fine like that
It doesn't really matter as long as it's secure
Well they are combined I supposed
Says no DP detected

Everything is plugged in
Yo wtf
I can't get any signal either from hdmi
@stone wave
reseat the card?
"just yank it out" yama one day someones not gonna read the part under that and bad things will happen
listen, computers are made with exact science, but they WORK with magic
if you question how its working, it will cease to work
Probably just not seated right then
lol
I got micro in mini tower as it should be
but the gpu's fans are very close to the solid bottom of the case
right now it only needs a help from case fans
i have 7 case fans
I have 2 case fans
My wifi adapter literally gets too hot to even function, so i have to have a fan pointed at it
Lame
When small Navi comes out, I'll probably upgrade to that
so I tried my disk imaging over the network setup
it actually worked ๐
now I can backup or restore my laptop's ssd without removing and installing it on my pc
why wouldn't it work
yeah
also ethernet transfer is so fast
at my high school I did a massive upgrade to their setup back when I was finishing college
instead of having each pc use a clunky harddrive and boot every time from it
I instead made a network image that they booted off of
and using the local disk for storage
ah so PXE?
ye
since the image was reset at each restart
I didn't need to worry about persistence
maybe I could set that up too so I don't have to apply linux live cd on my usb storage
PxE is only useful if you have multiple devices to boot off at once
ah
they USED to do that at my uni, but now they save whatever stuff you have, but only on the same physical computer, not your account
hey fire
hello
is cat5 cable capable of 1G ?
