stone wave
#

yeah

#

you can tweak when you restart

#

anyways I wouldn't OC until you get that new PSU

#

cause like Yamato said

flint bobcat
#

GWshizuPlsRember right

#

Also it's frozen why

#

Won't let me input

stone wave
#

you mean tis not letting you load default values?

flint bobcat
#

When I press f2, nothing happens

stone wave
#

you can run setup

#

all that does is load you into the BIOS

#

its POSTing so it's not like anything too serious ought to have happened

flint bobcat
#

It doesn't let me press that to

stone wave
#

is your keyboard plugged into the mobo

#

or a hub?

flint bobcat
#

Yeah

#

Should I maybe restart?

stone wave
#

try it

#

weird cause its detecting your keyboard where it says USB Device total: 1 KBD

flint bobcat
#

Oh ok

#

NVM

#

I restarted and it's loading me into windows now

stone wave
#

computer things

flint bobcat
#

Well it's fixed now

#

Thanks for advise

stone wave
#

mm hmm

subtle hawk
#

yeah, trying to oc with pre-built psu Thonk

#

and half the cpu power cables plugged in

severe falcon
#

my 2nd work comp wont leave BIOS if i dont have a keyboard plugged in

subtle hawk
#

typical of old bios

#

"Keyboard not detected. Press F1 to continue."

severe falcon
#

it also has a mobo speaker on it so it beeps agrily at me when that happens

subtle hawk
#

lol

#

I think I replaced my mobo's buzzer with a tiny speaker

#

boring

#

try to make it do that on POST

subtle hawk
#

as expected

#

I can't set it to repeat my uni network Thonk

#

at least I can set it to repeat my pc's connection

subtle hawk
#

yes

#

I did it

#

after almost 5 hours ๐Ÿ˜†

#

mostly me overcomplicating myself

severe falcon
#

that sounds like two days ago when i messed around with an algorithm for 8 hours only to solve the issue in 5 mins at the end.
the entire program changed by 2 whole lines and 10 characters

subtle hawk
#

just to make my nintendo switch connect to uni internet Thonk

#

doesn't the switch allow for 802.1X?

#

nope, it's grayed out

#

hmm

#

it seems it doesn't have that protocol implemented

#

mine is whitelisted on my 802.1X network

#

so it has no problem

#

also hm I should narrow the subnet size for pc to router connection

severe falcon
#

i mean i took a networking class but we didnt ever go over the flavors of wifi

flint bobcat
#

so can i remove my hdd, install clean windows on your ssd, connect the hdd again and move my stuff from hdd to ssd?

stone wave
#

err you can connect the SSD without removing your HDD

#

then clone it over to the SSD

flint bobcat
#

woah what

stone wave
#

I don't recall the exact procedure when the drive being cloned is larger than the target drive

flint bobcat
#

its the same sizes

stone wave
#

oh lol

flint bobcat
#

500GB HDD and SSD

stone wave
severe falcon
#

wait are you trying ti install windows on SSD and then transfer the hdd files over?

flint bobcat
#

yeah

#

well mith showed a diff way

stone wave
#

you can also just install windows 10 on the ssd

#

cause with the ssd its like 15 minutes maybe?

flint bobcat
#

fast

subtle hawk
#

@stone wave wtf

stone wave
#

?

subtle hawk
#

is that garbage software

#

fuking

severe falcon
#

well it depends on what your win10 is on

#

laughs in floppy discs

subtle hawk
#

like

stone wave
#

Windows 95 on floppy

subtle hawk
#

c'mon bruh

stone wave
#

I don't really clone drives lol

#

if it works its all the same to me if im honest

subtle hawk
#

it does bit by bit cloning

#

even optimizes cloning for SSDs

severe falcon
#

wait there are things that DONT do bit by bit cloning?

stone wave
#

can Aria use it easily?

subtle hawk
#

ye

#

shitty cloning software on windows

#

that does it by block

severe falcon
#

but if you asked me to write a cloning software, thats how my inexperienced mind would do it

#

for i in width:
for j in height:
ssd[i][j] = hdd[i][j]

flint bobcat
#

kek

stone wave
#

which ever works for you Aria

#

you could also just do a fresh Windows install

subtle hawk
#

^ better

severe falcon
#

well im guessing the problem is that said hdd has windows on it

subtle hawk
#

just do a clean install

#

so that old drivers and firmware doesn't bloat the system

severe falcon
#

but that doesnt solve the problem of win10 and non system hdd files all on the SSD

flint bobcat
#

ok yeah, ill just do clean insteall

#

since its the easiest for me

stone wave
#

remember to change the boot order to the SSD

severe falcon
#

wait am i missing something

stone wave
#

and to format the HDD

severe falcon
#

BUT ISNT THE POINT TO SAVE THE INFO ON THE HDD?

stone wave
#

he did a fresh install of windows yesterday on that HDD

flint bobcat
#

wdym format hdd

severe falcon
#

so the hdd is just windows?

stone wave
#

and whatever R18 stuff Aria put on it

flint bobcat
severe falcon
#

ah ok i got it now

flint bobcat
#

alright

subtle hawk
#

or u know

#

not plug the drive in while u install windows

flint bobcat
#

it did arrive, but the mail key isnt with me

#

well im gonna take it out, the hdd

subtle hawk
#

aria did u activate ur windows 10 while it was tied to ur MS acc?

severe falcon
#

yamato, that kindof thing usually goes wrong for me

flint bobcat
#

MakinaSmug its an OEM key i bought for $3

subtle hawk
#

I'll take that as a yes

#

then it should auto activate the moment u add ur MS acc

severe falcon
#

like installing the mobo's drivers from its CD ended up making it unable to use more than one hard drive

flint bobcat
#

oh, im using a local account, not a MS acc

subtle hawk
#

smh

#

big dum

flint bobcat
#

should i change

subtle hawk
#

probably

#

with a MS acc is also backs up a lot of ur windows settings

#

and preferences

#

including wallpapers

stone wave
#

or back to plan A and throw CloneZilla on to a USB drive

severe falcon
#

oh and then it randomly decided to start working and recognize other hdds

flint bobcat
#

wait i thought you cant transfer OEM keys, which they are 1 time use

subtle hawk
#

no

#

they're only tied to the same system

#

like any other windows license

flint bobcat
#

oh so i can transfer? GWshizuPlsRember

subtle hawk
#

duuh

flint bobcat
#

i really dont want to reinstall all the games i have

#

took a while

stone wave
#

just clone it then i suppose

severe falcon
#

oh so i just figured out that my script pressing scroll lock twice every 6 seconds actually breaks ctrl, alt, and shift if you are holding them when it does it

#

now its every 60 seconds

umbral onyx
#

I still have my bucky hug minigame

#

what do?

severe falcon
#

wait what

umbral onyx
flint bobcat
#

@stone wave got your package now GWshizuPlsRember

stone wave
flint bobcat
#

wait did u include a bracket

stone wave
#

bracket?

flint bobcat
#

like to mount it

stone wave
#

err no i didnt have one on hand

#

you meant he ssd right?

flint bobcat
#

oh can i install without bracket

stone wave
#

yeah

flint bobcat
#

yeah for the ssd

stone wave
#

or you can take it out of the enclosure

#

and install it as a m.2 SSD

flint bobcat
#

can i install it with enclosure, since it looks easier

stone wave
#

yeah

#

you need a SATA cable and power just like your HDD

#

you can let it hang loose

#

no harm since it has no moving parts in it

#

you can just tape it if you're paranoid

#

the screw driver i taped to the side is just if you need to open the enclosure

flint bobcat
#

This thing?

stone wave
#

yeah

flint bobcat
#

how about the longer pin

stone wave
#

you need the longer one for power

flint bobcat
#

can i use my HDD's connector?

stone wave
#

if you dont want to bother just take it out of the enclosure

#

you can or you can run 2 drives

#

for more stroage

flint bobcat
#

ill use 1

stone wave
#

literally doesn't even use cables

flint bobcat
#

is it hard to install without enclosure?

stone wave
#

i say easier

#

you might have to lay the case on its side

flint bobcat
#

Ok

stone wave
#

loosen that screw

#

but don't take it out

#

(no harm if you do but it's easier to not remove it)

flint bobcat
#

I'll brb, sorry, have the help my mom for a min

stone wave
#

kk

flint bobcat
#

Ok we back

#

I want to remove my HDD altogether, cause it's kind of gonna bug me

stone wave
#

ok

#

you can just unplug the HDD and leave it where it is

#

(the SSD goes sticker side up)

#

Then push down, if it doesn't clear the screw you can just take the screw out all the way.

And then just screw the m.2 SSD in place.

severe falcon
#

my wallet hurts just looking at how delicate that is

stone wave
#

Easier than fucking with annoying ass cables.

#

They're pretty cheap now the non NVME ones

#

about the same as 2.5" SATA SSDs in terms of $ per GB

severe falcon
#

i know but why not have the connection on the long side

#

having it on the short side is asking for something bad to happen

flint bobcat
#

This thing?

stone wave
#

yea

flint bobcat
#

Ok I opened the ssd

stone wave
#

unscrew the m.2 from the enclosure

#

and it should tilt upwards then just pull it out

flint bobcat
#

Got it out

stone wave
#

same thing but in reverse to install it

flint bobcat
#

Wat

stone wave
#

loosen the screw in your mobo

flint bobcat
#

Ok

stone wave
#

third hole from the slot has a knurled thumb screw looks like

#

you use your fingers

flint bobcat
#

Ye

#

I unscrewed

stone wave
#

place the m.2 SSD in the slot at an angle

#

then push down on it

#

and screw it in

flint bobcat
#

Wait do I take out the screw

stone wave
#

which ever

flint bobcat
#

Like this?

stone wave
#

yeah

flint bobcat
#

o

stone wave
#

easier when you don't have a graphics card

flint bobcat
#

Lol

#

So I need to reinstall Windows onto it GWshizuPlsRember

#

Or can I just transfer mywhole hhd to ssd

stone wave
#

which ever

flint bobcat
#

I want to keep my data

stone wave
#

just turn on your computer like normal

#

it should boot into windows since the SSD is empty

#

But anyways from there throw CloneZilla on a USB flash drive and boot into CloneZilla and clone the drive

#

IDK the specifics but follow a YouTube guide or bug Yamato about it.

#

Cause I never bother to clone drives and just slap on a fresh Windows install instead.

#

I think the CloneZilla download is a disk image

#

so grab Etcher to write it to a flash drive

flint bobcat
#

Wut GWshizuPlsRember

stone wave
#

lol thats why i recommended a software solution

#

to write to a flash drive

#

boot into the flash drive

#

and from there i hope you can figure it out

flint bobcat
#

wait why a flash drive

stone wave
#

you can burn it to a disc

flint bobcat
#

wont that take long

stone wave
#

yeah

flint bobcat
#

since my flashdrive is slow

stone wave
#

lol

flint bobcat
#

why cant i just use clonezilla

stone wave
#

cause clonezilla is a live CD type of deal

#

you have to boot into it

#

thats why i took the lazy route and recommended you software

flint bobcat
#

whats the better route

stone wave
#

technically clonezilla

#

but more steps

#

software you just install that shit like any program

#

click a few buttons and walk away for half an hour or whatever

flint bobcat
#

can i do that

#

instead

stone wave
#

lol

#

yea

#

click home use

flint bobcat
#

idk why my inet speed is so fckn garbage

stone wave
#

arent you using some shit wifi dongle

flint bobcat
#

ye

#

it used to be fast tho

#

now 30sec for 5mb

stone wave
#

can you not run it through ethernet?

flint bobcat
#

router is in my parents room

stone wave
#

get a long ass cable

flint bobcat
stone wave
#

100ft is like $10

#

yea

#

you can also get a wifi repeater, not going to be as fast as a hardwire connection and it'll add latency

#

but you can get the cheaper ones for like $25

#

I actually have one that i don't use any more too so WarShrug

subtle hawk
#

well with clonezilla it's just select drive A

#

select drive B

#

done

flint bobcat
#

Really?

subtle hawk
#

ye

flint bobcat
#

How

subtle hawk
#

I can boot clonezilla in a VM to show u

flint bobcat
#

Oh in a vm

subtle hawk
#

well I don't need to clone a drive rn

#

so why would I actually boot from it

stone wave
#

the dl was an ISO

#

i never used that shit so i cant explain it

subtle hawk
#

it's piss ez

flint bobcat
stone wave
#

doesn't it require a live environment?

#

click the clone this disk burtton

#

*button

flint bobcat
stone wave
#

yeah

#

just hit next

#

and it should do its thing

#

you can try clonezilla

#

but yamato would have to walk you through it

flint bobcat
stone wave
#

since im not in a position to install it to see how its like rn

#

yeah sure

#

XML file should take up any room

flint bobcat
stone wave
#

teah

#

yeah

#

that drive is empty anyway

flint bobcat
#

yay

#

thanks

#

now this is gonna take long

subtle hawk
#

MBR

#

NOT LIKE THIS

flint bobcat
#

huh GWshizuPlsRember

subtle hawk
#

and it's a SSD

flint bobcat
#

did i do something wrong

stone wave
#

you can walk him through that if you want

subtle hawk
flint bobcat
#

im already cloning tho GWshizuPlsRember

subtle hawk
stone wave
#

i got to step away from the computer for a bit

subtle hawk
#

and from there it will go automatically

flint bobcat
#

u should put that in a imgur album so i can pin that shit here

subtle hawk
#

you go do that

#

and ye

#

bad idea to copy that HDD to the SSD

#

it uses a outdated af partitioning system

#

MBR or Master Boot Record has been used since the dawn of HDDs

#

up until Win 7 era

#

now all SSDs and HDDs use GPT

#

or GUID Partition Table

flint bobcat
#

@subtle hawk should I cancel and do clean install

subtle hawk
#

probably

#

I mean

#

after u do a clean install

#

u can just copy what u need from the old drive

#

reformat it

#

and use it for storage

flint bobcat
#

Wait where is the drive

#

It's gone

subtle hawk
#

which one

flint bobcat
#

Ssd

subtle hawk
#

it got repartitioned

#

it's just not mounted

flint bobcat
#

Uh

#

Now what GWshizuPlsRember

subtle hawk
#

you can still proceed

#

get USB, make windows install on USB, run that

flint bobcat
#

Already have it BuckySmug

subtle hawk
#

well then boot from it

#

and make sure only the SSD is plugged into the pc

flint bobcat
#

Ah ok

subtle hawk
#

you don't want the HDD to be interfering

flint bobcat
#

So I can transfer my files after by plugging it back in

#

?

subtle hawk
#

ye

flint bobcat
#

Nice

#

Ok thanks

subtle hawk
#

and besides

flint bobcat
#

Rip my windows key tho

subtle hawk
#

new fresh install is gonna be faster than clone

flint bobcat
#

Can I just log into MS and it gets saved augo

#

Automatically

#

The key

subtle hawk
#

ye

#

observe

#

I also have a Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows Server 2019 license on my MS acc

flint bobcat
#

Oshit it worked

#

Thanks

#

Which one do I delete

#

@subtle hawk

subtle hawk
#

both

#

it will say just Drive 0 Unallocated space

flint bobcat
#

So drive 0 and then next?

subtle hawk
#

once only one option is there ye

flint bobcat
#

Aight

stone wave
#

im back how goes it?

severe falcon
#

my eyes

stone wave
#

Hi, I'm Clippy! I'm the browser assistant and my job is to help you navigate this page. Do you need assistance?

#

๐Ÿ“Ž

severe falcon
#

tbh i wouldnt mind a modern clippy if it was an anime girl

stone wave
#

all i got is sandy

severe falcon
#

like cortana except she has a lil avatar body and isnt useless

stone wave
#

its all fun and games until the AIs take over

#

except now with anime girl holograms

severe falcon
#

i mean AI already took over and no one knows it yet

stone wave
#

If the AI overlords sound like anime girls and end their sentences with "desu" the weebs will turn against humanity.

#

Mark my words.

severe falcon
#

i mean im already gonna turn against humanity if ANY of the AIs are female. living as the pet of an AI girl sounds better than dying

stone wave
#

What if they hook us up to pods and use our brains to calculate pi all day or some shit.

severe falcon
#

arent our brains like REALLY bad at doing that with any kind of processing speed though?

stone wave
#

there are billions of us though

#

we'll all be one shitty cluster

#

and when people die they Soylent Green them

severe falcon
#

Would probably be better to use us as image processing

#

Theres not a computer ON THE PLANET that can process images as fast as our brains

stone wave
#

Spend the rest of your life in a pod hooked up to pipes solving captchas.

severe falcon
#

Except computers can already do that

stone wave
#

im just shit posting though

severe falcon
#

Yeah

stone wave
#

if the AI apocalypse happens i'm nope-ing the fuck out

severe falcon
#

I mean i heard from an article that US Pilots can identify a plane from a silhouette flashing for a fraction of a second

stone wave
#

i wouldnt doubt it

#

isnt human vision really good a peripheral vision?

#

anyways im gonna grab some groceries or something and head home

severe falcon
#

Same but dinner instead of groceries

flint bobcat
#

@stone wave jesus christ its fast

#

11BG of data in under a minute transferred

stone wave
#

Lol yea

#

Wait until you see the cold boot up time aria

flint bobcat
#

the what GWshizuPlsRember

stone wave
#

Start up from a powered off state

flint bobcat
#

ah

stone wave
#

Its gonna spoil regular mechanical hard drives for you

#

Also game loading times

flint bobcat
#

mith, it already did

stone wave
#

Lol

severe falcon
#

@stone wave its not really the peripheral vision itself, its that your eye darts all over the place all the time and it just feels like your eyes dont move

stone wave
#

Eye see

severe falcon
#

Yeah but your brain can turn off your perception of those movements

flint bobcat
#

just wondering, does a new PSU increase performance

severe falcon
#

Thats why if you suddenly look at a ticking clock, the first second you see seems extra long

stone wave
#

No but in your case you need a new one to OC

flint bobcat
#

ye EntyLUL

#

im gonna OC it to like 3.7-8 GHz

severe falcon
#

Cuz your brain shuts off your perception and then fills in the lost time with the first image you see, so it lasts longer than it should

stone wave
#

That stock wraith cooler is good for a stock cooler but tis still a stock cooler

flint bobcat
#

i researched and you can do a mild OC with the wraith

stone wave
#

Also you need more ram to allocate for the integrated graphics

flint bobcat
#

right

stone wave
#

The apu works best with fast ram

severe falcon
#

Wait are you trying to OC past the boost speed?

stone wave
#

But in the end later down the road transition over to a dgpu

flint bobcat
#

atm, I'm not looking to play games right now

#

Just needed stronger processing power

stone wave
#

mm well the 2400g is sure better than a Haswell i3 or whatever you had earlier

#

And the AM4 socket leaves you room to upgrade later down the line

subtle hawk
#

@subtle hawk I don't recall my windows license being carried over my Microsoft account

#

can I really just activate my windows on pc by just signing in both it and my laptop that's running oem win10 home

flint bobcat
#

@stone wave are the fans that you gave me for full tower case

stone wave
#

errr any case that has provisions for 140mm fan

stone wave
#

yeah that sfine

#

thats' for EATX

#

or the be pedantic it supports up to EATX

tame topaz
#

Matrexx 55 is nice yes

#

In Vietnam we have a huge, huge selection of Chinese cases

#

A lot of them really good-looking

stone wave
#

you might need the screws for the fans if the case doesn't come with them cause i didnt send any

flint bobcat
#

yeah its fine, i have a electronics shop near me

#

or just home depot

tame topaz
#

No PSU shroud? That's kinda... meh for 2019 dontcha think?

stone wave
#

just ask an electronics shop for screws to mount case fans

#

and they should know

flint bobcat
#

mk

stone wave
#

Aria is on a budget though

tame topaz
#

Yes, under 50

#

Try checking Newegg too

flint bobcat
#

i have like an extreme budget pc

tame topaz
#

Newegg has quite the nice case variety

flint bobcat
#

the blue streak for the meatrexx case will match my setup

flint bobcat
#

YO

stone wave
#

its RGB addressable so just change the color

flint bobcat
#

3 stars tho

stone wave
#

its cause people thought it came with fans or something

#

if you read them

#

RGB fans are kinda expensive

flint bobcat
#

i dont even want rgb EntyLUL

#

so yeah ill buy that then

stone wave
#

IDK if your current PSU has cables long enough for that case

#

so keep in mind the possibility of the cables being too short

flint bobcat
#

nono, im buying a new psu with the new case

stone wave
#

cause that's an eATX full oiwer

#

ok

#

worst case scenario just buy cable extentions

#

anyways that case only supports up to 2 140mm fans, and only on the top

#

so if you want front or rear fans find some 120mm fans

#

but youll probably be fine

#

just buy em if you ever happen to need em

flint bobcat
#

i currently only have 1 rear fan

stone wave
#

lol

#

well its not like regular fans are that expensive

#

unless you go with silent, rgb or high static pressure or something

flint bobcat
#

nah, dont really care about that, your fans are good

tame topaz
#

For 10 bucks more get this

#

Free shipping too

stone wave
#

wheres that stupid lian li boat case imma go link you guys that thing

tame topaz
#

There's this too. 70 bucks but 10 dollar rebate

#

You really can't go wrong with Phanteks.

stone wave
#

Yeah I got the P600s

#

Aria has the 3 140mm fans I pulled from it lmao.

violet nexus
#

I like the non rgb fan

#

I forgot the brand

#

But its good

stone wave
#

Noctua?

violet nexus
#

Yes i think

stone wave
#

Corsair ML120 are also great

violet nexus
#

They dont do any rgb fans

#

Always color brown

stone wave
#

oh yeah thats Noctua

violet nexus
#

If ur not much into rgb

#

Noctua is good

stone wave
#

The Noctuas and Corsair ML120 Pros are probably the best fans on the market

violet nexus
#

I had experience using k95 platinum

#

The mech keyboard

stone wave
#

What about it?

violet nexus
#

Well its great

stone wave
#

They're pretty nice if you can get a good price on them.

violet nexus
#

Iirc

#

It costs like 11k php

stone wave
#

If you get one figure out which MX switch you like best

violet nexus
#

The noisy one GWfroggerHyperXD

stone wave
#

blues

violet nexus
#

Yiz

#

Im bad at hardware stuff

#

Im rly bad at it

stone wave
#

I had them on some Logitech one before they switched to their own G-romer thing

violet nexus
#

Im so outdated bout that thing

stone wave
#

but I switched to MX Blacks which are linear non-tactile

violet nexus
#

Ya know i cant even assemble PC

stone wave
#

but now im on a 33 year old keyboard

violet nexus
#

Nice

stone wave
#

its loud but nice to type on

#

problem is no NKRO

violet nexus
#

NKRO?

stone wave
#

i can only hold down so many buttons at once

#

before the keyboard stops recognizing them unless i let go of some

violet nexus
#

I see

stone wave
#

which basically only matters in some games

flint bobcat
#

whats a good cheap psu to get

stone wave
#

errr not the cheap Seasonic

#

EVGA BQ or whatever

violet nexus
#

I only used laptop

#

Havent had any pc

stone wave
#

whats your budget for a PSU?

flint bobcat
#

$40

violet nexus
#

๐Ÿ‘€

stone wave
#

that's...

violet nexus
#

A bit low i think

subtle hawk
#

a bit low

stone wave
#

yeah umm gonna have to browse them sales

flint bobcat
#

srsly

subtle hawk
#

imo don't cheap out on psu

stone wave
#

yeah

flint bobcat
#

$40 isnt cheap for me GWshizuPlsRember

violet nexus
#

My friendo said this to me: never ever buy cheap psu

stone wave
#

$40 is cheap for a PSU

subtle hawk
#

anything with at least 80+ bronze is okay

violet nexus
#

Silver

stone wave
#

if it coil whines you're gonna want to throw it at a wall

#

if its bad it's gonna die

#

if it's shit it's gonna kill other parts

violet nexus
#

U'll spend more if ur psu got shit

stone wave
#

if it's dog shit you better have fire insurance

stone wave
#

yeah the EVGA B series

flint bobcat
#

is it bad?

stone wave
#

nevermind the fact that one of them is 1 letter way from BBQ

subtle hawk
#

hm only 500w

#

lol

flint bobcat
#

500w is enough

subtle hawk
#

yeah until you upgrade to graphics card with additional 8 pin power connector

#

but I think it's enough for your current setup

#

I remember someone posted a PSU calculator here

stone wave
#

here's a tier list for PSU

#

It'll give you a rough idea

#

the BR is probably around the BQ and B3

#

If you're going for $40 or less that's about the only choice not counting mail-in-rebates and etc.

flint bobcat
#

well im not buying anything atm

#

if i get extra, i can do it

#

get better psu

stone wave
#

yeah maybe wait for the right one to go on sale

lyric island
#

I bought that EVGA 500br for 39 plus $10 rebate

#

Hopefully it doesn't blow up in my friend's PC

flint bobcat
#

oh thanks mith

#

$20 mail in rebate

severe falcon
#

Oof im at tier 6 on that psu chart

#

Though i doubt it was a tier 6 when i bought it in 2013

stone wave
#

idk how accurate that chart is but its one of those things you can use to gauge what's kinda shit

#

like you probably not gonna see Diablotek listed there

severe falcon
#

Well it definitely worked when i needed its full 750 watts, though i dont think it could go back to that without some kind of problem

lyric island
#

I'm using an 8 year old OEM power supply from an old Gateway to power a primarily 24/7 server PC running an overclocked/undervolted FX 8320 in a cardboard box

flexing your poverty on Aria eh?

Aria and his fancy pants Ryzen 5

flint bobcat

ryzen 5 is shit, isnt it?

lyric island

Also the old GT 640 from the same Gateway

Ryzen Is great

flint bobcat
subtle hawk

I have Ryzen 7 LaffeyDrink

flint bobcat

i thought this was a low end cpu

severe falcon
#

Im running fx 6300 and 16 gb of ram except one of the sticcs died so its actually 12

stone wave
#

thats ryzen 3

lyric island
#

Ryzen 3 still good for budget

subtle hawk
#

yeah

lyric island
#

I want ryzen 3 3000 chips

stone wave
#

actually whats their low end called

lyric island
#

Athlon

#

I think

stone wave
#

oh they're using the athlon name again

lyric island
#

Yeah

stone wave
#

i just remembered they have an even lower end line just now

#

kinda like the Intel Pentiums I guess

subtle hawk
#

isn't pentium higher than celeron

lyric island
#

There's that one Athlon chip with an integrated gpu

stone wave
#

They still make Celerons?

lyric island
#

Ye

stone wave
#

I'm not aware of what happens on the ultra low end

lyric island
#

In those cheap ass Chromebooks

#

For a great example

stone wave
#

that's whats in those things?

lyric island
#

My school is cheap so I get cheap

stone wave
#

i thought they ran on Intel Atom

lyric island
#

That's super low power not really low end

subtle hawk
#

I saw it in netbooks and tiny x86 single board computers

lyric island
#

It is low end but ye

severe falcon
#

its all just a bunch of 8 bit registers tied together in some fashion

stone wave
#

Just run a pair of literal potatoes in parallel.

#

Bake them and add some butter.

lyric island
#

I prefer knitting copper threads for RAM

severe falcon
#

Anyone watched that one madman make breadboard computer?

stone wave
#

breadboard

#

as in ๐Ÿž

severe falcon
#

Isnt that the right term for the electronics boards with all the pin holes?

stone wave
#

it is

#

but i thought you might have meant someone did it with a slice of wonder bread

subtle hawk
#

what are you quoting

stone wave
#

im hungry so i associated bread with bread

severe falcon
#

I mean this madman made a GPU on one

lyric island
#

There's that one series about making a GPU that I haven't watched yet

stone wave
#

Core rope memory is a form of read-only memory (ROM) for computers, first used in the 1960s by early NASA Mars space probes and then in the Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC) designed and programmed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Instrumentation Lab and built ...

severe falcon
#

Its VGA 100 x 75 at either 60 or 30 hz

subtle hawk
#

meh, I've seen lots of 74xx computer projects before that guy's video

severe falcon
#

Yeah but how many arent soldered and can do graphics?

#

This mans is gonna do a doom speedrun on a breadboard gaming comp one day

subtle hawk
#

nah, clock speed is too low

severe falcon
#

Hmmm idk

#

He at least has 10 MHz

#

Thats 4 more than the gameboy or ti-83 plus

subtle hawk
#

Unless he replicate IBM PC on his proto boards

#

yeah but those things use z80

#

it has way more instructions and registers than his

severe falcon
#

I mean you really dont need that many instructions

#

Especially if some are just repeating another instruction multiple times

stone wave
#

do it in minecraft

subtle hawk
#

someone emulated atari 2600 on that once

severe falcon
#

I wanna say that there is a 2 bit instruction set where it can store, load, add 1 or subtract 1

subtle hawk
#

isn't that just brainfuck

severe falcon
#

Idk what that it but i think stanford made it

subtle hawk
#

yeah you can

severe falcon
#

Tbh im surprised we dont have integer fractions as a hardware data structure

subtle hawk
#

they are called single instruction computers I think

severe falcon
#

Cuz boi that would be useful for high speed fraction math

subtle hawk
#

also yeah I'm studying in computer engineering major and I know how his proto board stuff works

#

I could make one too but I don't have access to that much parts like him

severe falcon
#

I need to break out my arduinos and make them talk to each other

subtle hawk
#

I also made a vga hardware before for a uni project

#

but that was on fpga

#

although the principles are the same

flint bobcat
#

woah thats p cool

stone wave
#

all this graphics card talk reminds me of the Hercules card https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hercules_Graphics_Card

The Hercules Graphics Card (HGC) is a computer graphics controller made by Hercules Computer Technology, Inc. that combines IBM's text-only MDA display standard with a bitmapped graphics mode. This allows the HGC to offer both high-quality text and graphics from a single card...

#

the guy made it cause his PC couldn't do the Thai alphabet

subtle hawk
#

wait

#

it was a Thai card?

#

TIL GWchadThinkeyes

stone wave
#

Made by a guy who spoke Thai as his native language.

subtle hawk
#

Yeah his name is native

#

well, considering our first exposure to PCs are mostly IBM PCs

#

instead of 8-bit home computers like most of you

stone wave
#

im not that old

subtle hawk
#

and also Thai alphabet can fit in tilemap but the tile data need to be modifiable to allow every possible combination

stone wave
#

as i understand it each line of the display needed to be addressable

subtle hawk
stone wave
#

to me as a layman it looks like the Thai characters require finer detail to be legible

subtle hawk
#

yeah

#

you have things like เธ„เธ…เธ”เธ•

#

but on my handwriting it's very distinguishable

flint bobcat
#

whats that

subtle hawk
#

no meaning, just 4 letters that looks very similar

#

and เธ… is unused nowadays

#

when your script is derived from sanskrit but your sounds are very simplified

#

then you have 6 letters which shares the same consonant sound

#

okay, this is getting off topic Thonk

violet nexus
#

is out-of-order packet affects the bandwidth speed ?

subtle hawk
#

no

violet nexus
#

aight

tame topaz
#

More BSOD troubleshoot hijinks

#

Culprit seems to be ntoskrnl

subtle hawk
#

nope, out-of-order packet happens all the time

#

it's a job for transport layer software to rearrange them

subtle hawk
#

itโ€™s tcp too

#

youโ€™re fine

severe falcon
#

yeah if its UDP then i have no idea how that even happened, and it certainly wont fix it but it doesnt really matter cuz its UDP

violet nexus
#

I see i see thanks

severe falcon
#

so correct me if im wrong but dont CDs shatter?

#

cuz i just had to destroy one and it bent like plastic but stayed intact

valid acorn
#

They do

flint bobcat
#

@stone wave is it weird that i need to wire to the power every time i put the pc to sleep

severe falcon
#

aria what do you mean?

flint bobcat
#

like since i dont have my power button plugged in (cause this is a old dell case), i need to use JP pins and connect them to power

severe falcon
stone wave
#

it's what ever i suppose, inconvenient but you gotta do what you gotta do, and it's only until you get a new case

flint bobcat
#

mk

flint bobcat
#

is it possible to access a webserver/database from a rasberry pi

severe falcon
#

i mean im pretty sure you can do anything with an rpi, it just takes a long time

subtle hawk
#

I mean, rpi runs linux

tame topaz
#

@subtle hawk yikes. Somehow after uncountable bluescreens now I have a corrupted system file and now it just won't boot.

#

Trying to run DISM from installation USB but not sure how

#

Hope DISM works

tame topaz
#

Oh great.

#

Just great!

#

Now for some whatever fucking reason my PC would turn on, fans would rev at max but it wouldn't boot into anywhere.

#

Not even the BIOS.

flint bobcat
#

does corsair make good mouses

#

or maybe hyperx

valid acorn
#

They do

flint bobcat
#

@stone wave why is my pc usually buzzing

#

like when i touch the case, it stops buzzing

tame topaz
#

@flint bobcat buzzing?

flint bobcat
#

it stopped

#

but it sounded like it was buzzing

tame topaz
#

odd

stone wave
#

Is it vibration?

#

Chances are it will go away when you get a new case.

#

Unless you're some how getting coil whine.

#

But since you said it goes away when you touch it' it's probably vibration.

tame topaz
#

Extended memory test, whopee

stone wave
#

It could be something isn't completely secure, a fan, a side panel, etc. So make sure nothing is obviously rattling.

You can also try to dampen the case, just prop it on a towel or 2, but be sure to not cover up any intakes or exhausts. Though this is really only a temporary remedy.

tame topaz
#

@stone wave also I'm hearing slight rattling noises with my own case as well

#

Seems to be coming from one of the fans

stone wave
#

Fans are kind of annoying to screw in. I hate those screws.

#

So IMO it's not uncommon for them to not be completely screwed in.

tame topaz
#

Seems like it didn't rattle until only yesterday tho

stone wave
#

Hmm

#

could take off a side panel and check by pressing/holding on to each fan

#

if the rattling stops when you take off the side panel it's probably the side panel resonating with whatever little vibration is going on.

stone wave
#

Make sure you give a good 20-25% leeway for the PSU

#

cause you don't want to run it at peak output all the time

flint bobcat
#

ah ur right

stone wave
#

so figure out how much you think youll be using

stone wave
#

If you can budget $60 I think a Corsair CX can cut it.

flint bobcat
#

isnt that less wattage tho

tame topaz
#

550 should be more than enough for like a 1660

stone wave
#

With stock clock speeds you're looking at around 115w at peak usage for the 2400g

flint bobcat
#

ah ok, then yeah, if i can budget to it, ill buy that

tame topaz
#

It's all about having headroom for upgrades and save electricty all the while

#

Higher 80+ rating = more efficiency = saved electricity

stone wave
tame topaz
#

oof

stone wave
#

around $1.10 a day in electricity.

flint bobcat
#

GWshizuPlsRember wo

stone wave
#

But yeah the Corsair CX is probably the best for ~$60.

quartz atlas
#

I would prefer Logitech over corsair

#

Much better build quality imo

stone wave
#

Logitech's LIGHTSPEED mice are great if you want to go wireless and game.

#

But you pay a premium for that shit cause it's the best on the market in terms of wireless functionality since there's no discernable latency vs. wired.

tame topaz
#

The PowerPlay mat is fucking expensive

stone wave
#

I know... I was considering it... along with a Lightspeed mouse with a Hero sensor...

#

$270 after tax...

tame topaz
#

oof

stone wave
#

That's a lot for a fucking mouse and a mouse pad.

quartz atlas
#

Logitechs wired mice are good enough and doesn't break the bank. Even their entry level mice are made really well and you still get Logitech's lengedary support.

stone wave
#

G502, like $50 and really popular.

tame topaz
#

And here I am with an RGB HyperX Cloud spoof

#

And a mechanical keyboard I got for free

stone wave
#

I'm using the G305

#

It was kinda expensive considering it has a basic ass shape (see poor ergonomics), and only features being the front and back button.

#

Battery life is good and the wireless is good enough to game with but... the ergo on that shit...

#

Like something straight out of 1995.

quartz atlas
#

I'm using the g502 hero

#

Great Lil thing

stone wave
#

Yeah I was eyeing the wireless version of it.

#

But $150 USD...

tame topaz
#

Why wireless?

stone wave
#

Waiting on a price drop on that shit.

#

Cause it's as good as wired when it comes to their Lightspeed models.

tame topaz
#

Any other reasons?

stone wave
#

Battery with the Hero sensor is easily 100 hours.

quartz atlas
#

Also less cables = less cable management and clutter on desk

tame topaz
#

on desk

quartz atlas
tame topaz
#

See photo above

quartz atlas
#

Oh

tame topaz
#

Okay what the hell

#

Now my computer really, really likes to freeze up

#

Especially if I try to open Event Viewer

stone wave
#

Yeah I've lost a bit of desk space.

tame topaz
#

Holy fuck is that a Model M

#

Damn

stone wave
#

Anyways, GoodUsernameNotFound have you tried reformatting the whole thing? If you're still getting issues after a clean install you might be having some hardware failure.

#

And yeah, vintage 1986.

tame topaz
#

The clean installed caused the issues ironically

flint bobcat
#

I might be getting a part time job soon so I'll see GWshizuPlsRember

#

And I'm gonna go for the Alienware monitor

stone wave
#

lol my GTX 1080 can barely drive that thing at the game quality and FPS I want

tame topaz
#

But yes

#

The issues only started popping up once I clean installed it

stone wave
#

Computers be doing weird shit sometimes.

flint bobcat
#

Mith should I just find a1080p with 144hz

stone wave
#

err like rn or in the future

flint bobcat
#

Future

stone wave
#

oh

#

just find whatever

flint bobcat
#

I saw that one

#

Well not in the future, maybe like a month or so

stone wave
#

don't get a G-Sync display if you don't have an Nvidia graphics card.

#

Also you pay a premium for G-sync

flint bobcat
#

Thing is that green streaks will not match my setup

stone wave
#

But Freesync runs on Nvidia cards now so WarShrug

#

yeah that monitor is fugly

#

You can go 1080p 144hz / 240hz.
Maybe UWFHD (2560x1080) or 1440p.

#

but if you want UWQHD you're looking at around $550 for a refurb if you want 100hz or higher.

#

and $800+ for a new one

#

unless you go down to a VN or TN panel

flint bobcat
#

Nah 1080p is enough for me with 144hz

stone wave
#

well that makes the shopping easier

#

since those are pretty easy to find on Amazon or elsewhere online

#

if you start getting picky with resolution, refresh rate, panel type and etc. it can be slim pickings

#

But if you're not concerned with refresh rates, 29" UWFHD (1080 ultrawide / 2560x1080) displays are easily under $200

flint bobcat
#

Ooo ok

stone wave
#

It depends if you want a high refresh rate or not.

#

It may be one of those things that ruin 60hz displays for you,

#

Ignorance is bliss (if you're on a shoestring budget)

flint bobcat
#

DW I'll get 144hz

flint bobcat
#

Is it maybe your wire

#

Oh only on windows?

#

Best way is you can check if it's just a cable by running it through a different charger

#

If not there are other ways like booting into safe mods

shadow valley
#

so we have a fibr line that supports landline and internet

#

there's gotta be a splitter somewhere right?

quartz atlas
#

It should come out from your ont

#

At least that's how mine works ThinkZed

subtle hawk
#

ye

#

it's not a splitter

#

the optical signal carries both landline and data

shadow valley
#

so the landline and data are gonna be seperated isp side?

subtle hawk
#

ye

#

and on your side

shadow valley
#

oh yeah ofc, through the router/modem?

subtle hawk
#

through the ONT

#

that's the beauty of optic fiber

#

you can multiplex so many sources

#

in standard setups it runs landline, internet and TV through that signal

shadow valley
tame topaz
#

Currently installing Linux because... why?

#

Alright so I have another odd issue.

#

In my current Windows installation the drive letters are all assigned correctly (C, D, E)

#

But it seems like the BIOS has it in a rather mixed up order (essentially D, E, C)

#

It's very odd and I think that's one of the things causing these issues

#

Almost as if my SSD was suddenly put at a lower order after the BIOS update

#

If I use the installation USB and Linux the order of the partitions would be that way (D, E, C)

#

Uh

#

How tf do you install Wine

valid acorn
#

ask google for a windows 10 file

tame topaz

?

valid acorn
#

or disregard if I didnt understand properly

tame topaz

You probably did

flint bobcat
subtle hawk

what about it

flint bobcat
#

its cheap

#

50% off

subtle hawk
#

I guess I can snipe a few

stone wave
#

I grab the white labels off of WD easystores and shuck them

#

Though you need to tape the 5v for them now

#

They used to 5200 RPM WD Reds, and they more or less still seem to be Reds.

subtle hawk
#

bois

#

recommend me a pair of IEMs that can also go wireless

#

preferably to max of 150-200$

stone wave
#

hmm i just use the Samsung Galaxy Buds

#

And they work for me.

subtle hawk
#

I have some headphones

#

but I need something flexible

#

thinking of getting myself a bit spoiled

#

and I didn't say it has to be exactly 200$

#

up to that

#

mostly bcz while the phone can do wireless

#

the switch and laptop do better wired

stone wave
#

IDK too much about earbuds or IEMs.

#

cause IDK what happens if you use a BT cable on them.

subtle hawk
#

I'll wait for the IEM bois to come online then

stone wave
#

Yeah good, call cause I can't in good conscience blindly recommend something when IDK what happens if you throw a BT cable adapter on a pair of $300 IEMs.

flint bobcat
#

@stone wave help

#

I accidently banged the top of my PC and it crashed, i tried turning it back on but the monitor won't turn on

stone wave
#

uhh...

#

did something come loose?

flint bobcat
#

I don't know

stone wave
#

ive never had that happen

flint bobcat
#

Everything looks plugged in

stone wave
#

like how hard did you bang it?

subtle hawk

inb4 dropped from 2nd floor

stone wave

cause it's possible to tear an HDMI port off of whatever board it's connected to if the cable is plugged in

It was accidental

stone wave

check every connection?

probably something got loose

flint bobcat

I turn it on fan spinning, and stuff

stone wave

you've been having issues with that monitor

flint bobcat

It looks good

stone wave
#

have you tried using a second cable?

flint bobcat
#

I could try

stone wave
#

what sort of cable is it? HDM, DVI etc

subtle hawk
#

try to turn the monitor on and off

stone wave
#

if it's DVI or VGA try using contact cleaner or something to deoxidize the connections

or just get a different cable to test
