you can tweak when you restart
anyways I wouldn't OC until you get that new PSU
cause like Yamato said
you mean tis not letting you load default values?
When I press f2, nothing happens
you can run setup
all that does is load you into the BIOS
its POSTing so it's not like anything too serious ought to have happened
mm hmm
my 2nd work comp wont leave BIOS if i dont have a keyboard plugged in
it also has a mobo speaker on it so it beeps agrily at me when that happens
lol
I think I replaced my mobo's buzzer with a tiny speaker
boring
try to make it do that on POST
as expected
I can't set it to repeat my uni network
at least I can set it to repeat my pc's connection
that sounds like two days ago when i messed around with an algorithm for 8 hours only to solve the issue in 5 mins at the end.
the entire program changed by 2 whole lines and 10 characters
this is my network setup right now
just to make my nintendo switch connect to uni internet
doesn't the switch allow for 802.1X?
nope, it's grayed out
hmm
it seems it doesn't have that protocol implemented
mine is whitelisted on my 802.1X network
so it has no problem
also hm I should narrow the subnet size for pc to router connection
i mean i took a networking class but we didnt ever go over the flavors of wifi
so can i remove my hdd, install clean windows on your ssd, connect the hdd again and move my stuff from hdd to ssd?
I don't recall the exact procedure when the drive being cloned is larger than the target drive
its the same sizes
oh lol
500GB HDD and SSD
Macrium Software - the creators of Macrium Reflect backup, imaging and cloning software.
wait are you trying ti install windows on SSD and then transfer the hdd files over?
you can also just install windows 10 on the ssd
cause with the ssd its like 15 minutes maybe?
@stone wave wtf
?
Windows 95 on floppy
c'mon bruh
wait there are things that DONT do bit by bit cloning?
can Aria use it easily?
but if you asked me to write a cloning software, thats how my inexperienced mind would do it
for i in width:
for j in height:
ssd[i][j] = hdd[i][j]
kek
^ better
well im guessing the problem is that said hdd has windows on it
but that doesnt solve the problem of win10 and non system hdd files all on the SSD
remember to change the boot order to the SSD
wait am i missing something
and to format the HDD
BUT ISNT THE POINT TO SAVE THE INFO ON THE HDD?
he did a fresh install of windows yesterday on that HDD
so the hdd is just windows?

ah ok i got it now
alright
aria did u activate ur windows 10 while it was tied to ur MS acc?
yamato, that kindof thing usually goes wrong for me
its an OEM key i bought for $3
like installing the mobo's drivers from its CD ended up making it unable to use more than one hard drive
oh, im using a local account, not a MS acc
probably
with a MS acc is also backs up a lot of ur windows settings
and preferences
including wallpapers
oh and then it randomly decided to start working and recognize other hdds
oh so i can transfer?
duuh
just clone it then i suppose
oh so i just figured out that my script pressing scroll lock twice every 6 seconds actually breaks ctrl, alt, and shift if you are holding them when it does it
now its every 60 seconds
wait what
@stone wave got your package now

wait did u include a bracket
bracket?
like to mount it
oh can i install without bracket
yeah
yeah for the ssd
can i install it with enclosure, since it looks easier
yeah
you need a SATA cable and power just like your HDD
you can let it hang loose
no harm since it has no moving parts in it
you can just tape it if you're paranoid
the screw driver i taped to the side is just if you need to open the enclosure
yeah
how about the longer pin
you need the longer one for power
can i use my HDD's connector?
if you dont want to bother just take it out of the enclosure
you can or you can run 2 drives
for more stroage
ill use 1
literally doesn't even use cables
is it hard to install without enclosure?
Ok
loosen that screw
but don't take it out
(no harm if you do but it's easier to not remove it)
I'll brb, sorry, have the help my mom for a min
kk
ok
you can just unplug the HDD and leave it where it is
Anyways loosen that screw and seat the m.2 SSD in the slot at an angle.
(the SSD goes sticker side up)
Then push down, if it doesn't clear the screw you can just take the screw out all the way.
And then just screw the m.2 SSD in place.
my wallet hurts just looking at how delicate that is
Easier than fucking with annoying ass cables.
They're pretty cheap now the non NVME ones
about the same as 2.5" SATA SSDs in terms of $ per GB
i know but why not have the connection on the long side
having it on the short side is asking for something bad to happen
yea
Ok I opened the ssd
Got it out
same thing but in reverse to install it
Wat
loosen the screw in your mobo
Ok
Wait do I take out the screw
which ever
yeah
o
easier when you don't have a graphics card
Lol
So I need to reinstall Windows onto it
Or can I just transfer mywhole hhd to ssd
which ever
I want to keep my data
just turn on your computer like normal
it should boot into windows since the SSD is empty
if you want to compare your HDD and your SSD run CrystalDiskMark on em and stare in amazement.
https://crystalmark.info/en/software/crystaldiskmark/
But anyways from there throw CloneZilla on a USB flash drive and boot into CloneZilla and clone the drive
IDK the specifics but follow a YouTube guide or bug Yamato about it.
Cause I never bother to clone drives and just slap on a fresh Windows install instead.
I think the CloneZilla download is a disk image
so grab Etcher to write it to a flash drive
Wut
lol thats why i recommended a software solution
to write to a flash drive
boot into the flash drive
and from there i hope you can figure it out
you can burn it to a disc
yeah
since my flashdrive is slow
lol
cause clonezilla is a live CD type of deal
you have to boot into it
thats why i took the lazy route and recommended you software
technically clonezilla
but more steps
software you just install that shit like any program
click a few buttons and walk away for half an hour or whatever
lol
yea
Macrium Software - the creators of Macrium Reflect backup, imaging and cloning software.
click home use
arent you using some shit wifi dongle
can you not run it through ethernet?
get a long ass cable
100ft is like $10
yea
you can also get a wifi repeater, not going to be as fast as a hardwire connection and it'll add latency
but you can get the cheaper ones for like $25
I actually have one that i don't use any more too so
Really?
ye
I can boot clonezilla in a VM to show u
Oh in a vm
it's piss ez
ok now what
yeah
just hit next
and it should do its thing
you can try clonezilla
but yamato would have to walk you through it
since im not in a position to install it to see how its like rn
yeah sure
XML file should take up any room
huh
and it's a SSD
did i do something wrong
you can walk him through that if you want
im already cloning tho
i got to step away from the computer for a bit
and from there it will go automatically
you go do that

and ye
bad idea to copy that HDD to the SSD
it uses a outdated af partitioning system
MBR or Master Boot Record has been used since the dawn of HDDs
up until Win 7 era
now all SSDs and HDDs use GPT
or GUID Partition Table
@subtle hawk should I cancel and do clean install
probably
I mean
after u do a clean install
u can just copy what u need from the old drive
reformat it
and use it for storage
which one
Ssd
Already have it
Ah ok
you don't want the HDD to be interfering
ye
and besides
Rip my windows key tho
new fresh install is gonna be faster than clone
ye
observe
I also have a Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows Server 2019 license on my MS acc
So drive 0 and then next?
once only one option is there ye
Aight
my eyes
Hi, I'm Clippy! I'm the browser assistant and my job is to help you navigate this page. Do you need assistance?
๐
tbh i wouldnt mind a modern clippy if it was an anime girl
like cortana except she has a lil avatar body and isnt useless
i mean AI already took over and no one knows it yet
If the AI overlords sound like anime girls and end their sentences with "desu" the weebs will turn against humanity.
Mark my words.
i mean im already gonna turn against humanity if ANY of the AIs are female. living as the pet of an AI girl sounds better than dying
What if they hook us up to pods and use our brains to calculate pi all day or some shit.
arent our brains like REALLY bad at doing that with any kind of processing speed though?
there are billions of us though
we'll all be one shitty cluster
and when people die they Soylent Green them
Would probably be better to use us as image processing
Theres not a computer ON THE PLANET that can process images as fast as our brains
Spend the rest of your life in a pod hooked up to pipes solving captchas.
Except computers can already do that
im just shit posting though
Yeah
if the AI apocalypse happens i'm nope-ing the fuck out
I mean i heard from an article that US Pilots can identify a plane from a silhouette flashing for a fraction of a second
i wouldnt doubt it
isnt human vision really good a peripheral vision?
anyways im gonna grab some groceries or something and head home
Same but dinner instead of groceries
Lol yea
I've been eating out too much, trying to cut back.
Wait until you see the cold boot up time aria
the what
Start up from a powered off state
ah
Lol
@stone wave its not really the peripheral vision itself, its that your eye darts all over the place all the time and it just feels like your eyes dont move
Eye see
Yeah but your brain can turn off your perception of those movements
just wondering, does a new PSU increase performance
Thats why if you suddenly look at a ticking clock, the first second you see seems extra long
No but in your case you need a new one to OC
Cuz your brain shuts off your perception and then fills in the lost time with the first image you see, so it lasts longer than it should
That stock wraith cooler is good for a stock cooler but tis still a stock cooler
i researched and you can do a mild OC with the wraith
Also you need more ram to allocate for the integrated graphics
right
The apu works best with fast ram
Wait are you trying to OC past the boost speed?
But in the end later down the road transition over to a dgpu
mm well the 2400g is sure better than a Haswell i3 or whatever you had earlier
And the AM4 socket leaves you room to upgrade later down the line
@subtle hawk I don't recall my windows license being carried over my Microsoft account
can I really just activate my windows on pc by just signing in both it and my laptop that's running oem win10 home
@stone wave are the fans that you gave me for full tower case
errr any case that has provisions for 140mm fan
Matrexx 55 is nice yes
In Vietnam we have a huge, huge selection of Chinese cases
A lot of them really good-looking
Basically this can support 120mm or 140mm fans.
you might need the screws for the fans if the case doesn't come with them cause i didnt send any
No PSU shroud? That's kinda... meh for 2019 dontcha think?
mk
Aria is on a budget though
i have like an extreme budget pc
Newegg has quite the nice case variety
the blue streak for the meatrexx case will match my setup
YO
its RGB addressable so just change the color
its cause people thought it came with fans or something
if you read them
RGB fans are kinda expensive
IDK if your current PSU has cables long enough for that case
so keep in mind the possibility of the cables being too short
nono, im buying a new psu with the new case
cause that's an eATX full oiwer
ok
worst case scenario just buy cable extentions
anyways that case only supports up to 2 140mm fans, and only on the top
so if you want front or rear fans find some 120mm fans
but youll probably be fine
just buy em if you ever happen to need em
lol
well its not like regular fans are that expensive
unless you go with silent, rgb or high static pressure or something
nah, dont really care about that, your fans are good
There's this too. 70 bucks but 10 dollar rebate
You really can't go wrong with Phanteks.
Noctua?
Yes i think
Corsair ML120 are also great
oh yeah thats Noctua
The Noctuas and Corsair ML120 Pros are probably the best fans on the market
What about it?
Well its great
They're pretty nice if you can get a good price on them.
If you get one figure out which MX switch you like best
The noisy one
blues
I had them on some Logitech one before they switched to their own G-romer thing
Im so outdated bout that thing
but I switched to MX Blacks which are linear non-tactile
Ya know i cant even assemble PC
but now im on a 33 year old keyboard
Nice
NKRO?
i can only hold down so many buttons at once
before the keyboard stops recognizing them unless i let go of some
I see
which basically only matters in some games
whats a good cheap psu to get
whats your budget for a PSU?
๐
that's...
A bit low i think
a bit low
yeah umm gonna have to browse them sales
imo don't cheap out on psu
yeah
$40 isnt cheap for me
My friendo said this to me: never ever buy cheap psu
$40 is cheap for a PSU
anything with at least 80+ bronze is okay
if it coil whines you're gonna want to throw it at a wall
if its bad it's gonna die
if it's shit it's gonna kill other parts
U'll spend more if ur psu got shit
if it's dog shit you better have fire insurance
yeah the EVGA B series
is it bad?
nevermind the fact that one of them is 1 letter way from BBQ
yeah until you upgrade to graphics card with additional 8 pin power connector
but I think it's enough for your current setup
I remember someone posted a PSU calculator here
here's a tier list for PSU
It'll give you a rough idea
the BR is probably around the BQ and B3
If you're going for $40 or less that's about the only choice not counting mail-in-rebates and etc.
yeah maybe wait for the right one to go on sale
just lurk https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/ or something and check the comments on deals
I bought that EVGA 500br for 39 plus $10 rebate
Hopefully it doesn't blow up in my friend's PC
Oof im at tier 6 on that psu chart
Though i doubt it was a tier 6 when i bought it in 2013
idk how accurate that chart is but its one of those things you can use to gauge what's kinda shit
like you probably not gonna see Diablotek listed there
Well it definitely worked when i needed its full 750 watts, though i dont think it could go back to that without some kind of problem
I'm using an 8 year old OEM power supply from an old Gateway to power a primarily 24/7 server PC running an overclocked/undervolted FX 8320 in a cardboard box
when you have no money
Hasn't blown up yet
ryzen 5 is shit, isnt it?

I have Ryzen 7
brb cooking dinner
Im running fx 6300 and 16 gb of ram except one of the sticcs died so its actually 12
thats ryzen 3
Ryzen 3 still good for budget
yeah
I want ryzen 3 3000 chips
actually whats their low end called
oh they're using the athlon name again
Yeah
i just remembered they have an even lower end line just now
kinda like the Intel Pentiums I guess
isn't pentium higher than celeron
There's that one Athlon chip with an integrated gpu
They still make Celerons?
Ye
I'm not aware of what happens on the ultra low end
that's whats in those things?
My school is cheap so I get cheap
i thought they ran on Intel Atom
That's super low power not really low end
I saw it in netbooks and tiny x86 single board computers
It is low end but ye
its all just a bunch of 8 bit registers tied together in some fashion
I prefer knitting copper threads for RAM
Anyone watched that one madman make breadboard computer?
Isnt that the right term for the electronics boards with all the pin holes?
what are you quoting
im hungry so i associated bread with bread
I mean this madman made a GPU on one
There's that one series about making a GPU that I haven't watched yet
some what related, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Core_rope_memory
Its VGA 100 x 75 at either 60 or 30 hz
meh, I've seen lots of 74xx computer projects before that guy's video
Yeah but how many arent soldered and can do graphics?
This mans is gonna do a doom speedrun on a breadboard gaming comp one day
nah, clock speed is too low
Unless he replicate IBM PC on his proto boards
yeah but those things use z80
it has way more instructions and registers than his
I mean you really dont need that many instructions
Especially if some are just repeating another instruction multiple times
someone emulated atari 2600 on that once
I wanna say that there is a 2 bit instruction set where it can store, load, add 1 or subtract 1
isn't that just brainfuck
Idk what that it but i think stanford made it
yeah you can
Tbh im surprised we dont have integer fractions as a hardware data structure
they are called single instruction computers I think
Cuz boi that would be useful for high speed fraction math
also yeah I'm studying in computer engineering major and I know how his proto board stuff works
I could make one too but I don't have access to that much parts like him
I need to break out my arduinos and make them talk to each other
I also made a vga hardware before for a uni project
but that was on fpga
although the principles are the same
woah thats p cool
all this graphics card talk reminds me of the Hercules card https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hercules_Graphics_Card
the guy made it cause his PC couldn't do the Thai alphabet
Made by a guy who spoke Thai as his native language.
Yeah his name is native
well, considering our first exposure to PCs are mostly IBM PCs
instead of 8-bit home computers like most of you
im not that old
and also Thai alphabet can fit in tilemap but the tile data need to be modifiable to allow every possible combination
as i understand it each line of the display needed to be addressable
to me as a layman it looks like the Thai characters require finer detail to be legible
yeah
you have things like เธเธ เธเธ
but on my handwriting it's very distinguishable
no meaning, just 4 letters that looks very similar
and เธ is unused nowadays
when your script is derived from sanskrit but your sounds are very simplified
then you have 6 letters which shares the same consonant sound
okay, this is getting off topic
no
aight
nope, out-of-order packet happens all the time
it's a job for transport layer software to rearrange them
yeah if its UDP then i have no idea how that even happened, and it certainly wont fix it but it doesnt really matter cuz its UDP
I see i see thanks
so correct me if im wrong but dont CDs shatter?
cuz i just had to destroy one and it bent like plastic but stayed intact
They do
@stone wave is it weird that i need to wire to the power every time i put the pc to sleep
aria what do you mean?
like since i dont have my power button plugged in (cause this is a old dell case), i need to use JP pins and connect them to power

it's what ever i suppose, inconvenient but you gotta do what you gotta do, and it's only until you get a new case
mk
i mean im pretty sure you can do anything with an rpi, it just takes a long time
I mean, rpi runs linux
@subtle hawk yikes. Somehow after uncountable bluescreens now I have a corrupted system file and now it just won't boot.
Trying to run DISM from installation USB but not sure how
Hope DISM works
Oh great.
Just great!
Now for some whatever fucking reason my PC would turn on, fans would rev at max but it wouldn't boot into anywhere.
Not even the BIOS.
They do
@stone wave why is my pc usually buzzing

like when i touch the case, it stops buzzing
@flint bobcat buzzing?
odd
Is it vibration?
Chances are it will go away when you get a new case.
Unless you're some how getting coil whine.
But since you said it goes away when you touch it' it's probably vibration.
Extended memory test, whopee
It could be something isn't completely secure, a fan, a side panel, etc. So make sure nothing is obviously rattling.
You can also try to dampen the case, just prop it on a towel or 2, but be sure to not cover up any intakes or exhausts. Though this is really only a temporary remedy.
@stone wave also I'm hearing slight rattling noises with my own case as well
Seems to be coming from one of the fans
Fans are kind of annoying to screw in. I hate those screws.
So IMO it's not uncommon for them to not be completely screwed in.
Seems like it didn't rattle until only yesterday tho
Hmm
could take off a side panel and check by pressing/holding on to each fan
if the rattling stops when you take off the side panel it's probably the side panel resonating with whatever little vibration is going on.
Make sure you give a good 20-25% leeway for the PSU
cause you don't want to run it at peak output all the time
ah ur right
so figure out how much you think youll be using
isnt that less wattage tho
550 should be more than enough for like a 1660
ah ok, then yeah, if i can budget to it, ill buy that
It's all about having headroom for upgrades and save electricty all the while
Higher 80+ rating = more efficiency = saved electricity
Meanwhile my PC + main monitor is eating like 160 or so watts doing nothing lmao
oof
around $1.10 a day in electricity.
wo
But yeah the Corsair CX is probably the best for ~$60.
Logitech's LIGHTSPEED mice are great if you want to go wireless and game.
But you pay a premium for that shit cause it's the best on the market in terms of wireless functionality since there's no discernable latency vs. wired.
The PowerPlay mat is fucking expensive
I know... I was considering it... along with a Lightspeed mouse with a Hero sensor...
$270 after tax...
oof
That's a lot for a fucking mouse and a mouse pad.
Logitechs wired mice are good enough and doesn't break the bank. Even their entry level mice are made really well and you still get Logitech's lengedary support.
G502, like $50 and really popular.
And here I am with an RGB HyperX Cloud spoof
And a mechanical keyboard I got for free
I'm using the G305
It was kinda expensive considering it has a basic ass shape (see poor ergonomics), and only features being the front and back button.
Battery life is good and the wireless is good enough to game with but... the ergo on that shit...
Like something straight out of 1995.
Why wireless?
Waiting on a price drop on that shit.
Cause it's as good as wired when it comes to their Lightspeed models.
Any other reasons?
Battery with the Hero sensor is easily 100 hours.
Also less cables = less cable management and clutter on desk

See photo above
Okay what the hell
Now my computer really, really likes to freeze up
Especially if I try to open Event Viewer
Wahdafuk
Anyways, GoodUsernameNotFound have you tried reformatting the whole thing? If you're still getting issues after a clean install you might be having some hardware failure.
And yeah, vintage 1986.
The clean installed caused the issues ironically
I might be getting a part time job soon so I'll see
And I'm gonna go for the Alienware monitor
lol my GTX 1080 can barely drive that thing at the game quality and FPS I want
Computers be doing weird shit sometimes.
Mith should I just find a1080p with 144hz
Future
don't get a G-Sync display if you don't have an Nvidia graphics card.
Also you pay a premium for G-sync
But Freesync runs on Nvidia cards now so
yeah that monitor is fugly
You can go 1080p 144hz / 240hz.
Maybe UWFHD (2560x1080) or 1440p.
but if you want UWQHD you're looking at around $550 for a refurb if you want 100hz or higher.
and $800+ for a new one
unless you go down to a VN or TN panel
Nah 1080p is enough for me with 144hz
well that makes the shopping easier
since those are pretty easy to find on Amazon or elsewhere online
if you start getting picky with resolution, refresh rate, panel type and etc. it can be slim pickings
But if you're not concerned with refresh rates, 29" UWFHD (1080 ultrawide / 2560x1080) displays are easily under $200
Ooo ok
It depends if you want a high refresh rate or not.
It may be one of those things that ruin 60hz displays for you,
Ignorance is bliss (if you're on a shoestring budget)
Is it maybe your wire
Oh only on windows?
Best way is you can check if it's just a cable by running it through a different charger
If not there are other ways like booting into safe mods
so we have a fibr line that supports landline and internet
there's gotta be a splitter somewhere right?
so the landline and data are gonna be seperated isp side?
oh yeah ofc, through the router/modem?
through the ONT
that's the beauty of optic fiber
you can multiplex so many sources
in standard setups it runs landline, internet and TV through that signal

Currently installing Linux because... why?
Alright so I have another odd issue.
In my current Windows installation the drive letters are all assigned correctly (C, D, E)
But it seems like the BIOS has it in a rather mixed up order (essentially D, E, C)
It's very odd and I think that's one of the things causing these issues
Almost as if my SSD was suddenly put at a lower order after the BIOS update
If I use the installation USB and Linux the order of the partitions would be that way (D, E, C)
Uh
How tf do you install Wine
ask google for a windows 10 file
?
or disregard if I didnt understand properly
You probably did
@subtle hawk https://www.ebay.com/itm/273403476273
what about it
I grab the white labels off of WD easystores and shuck them
Though you need to tape the 5v for them now
They used to 5200 RPM WD Reds, and they more or less still seem to be Reds.
bois
recommend me a pair of IEMs that can also go wireless
preferably to max of 150-200$
hmm i just use the Samsung Galaxy Buds
And they work for me.
This is a thing if you have some MMCX IEMs lying around already: https://www.amazon.com/FiiO-Bluetooth-Lightweight-Headphone-Replacement/dp/B07D8J8CJ9
Alternate BT cable option: https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Headphones-Yinyoo-Extension-Replacement/dp/B07881MBQ1
I've heard the nuraloop pop up one or twice, it comes out later this year for $199 USD https://www.nuraphone.com/products/nuraloop
I have some headphones
but I need something flexible
thinking of getting myself a bit spoiled
and I didn't say it has to be exactly 200$
up to that
mostly bcz while the phone can do wireless
the switch and laptop do better wired
IDK too much about earbuds or IEMs.
Could always check out some reviews: https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/category/in-ear.259/
cause IDK what happens if you use a BT cable on them.
I'll wait for the IEM bois to come online then
Yeah good, call cause I can't in good conscience blindly recommend something when IDK what happens if you throw a BT cable adapter on a pair of $300 IEMs.
@stone wave help
I accidently banged the top of my PC and it crashed, i tried turning it back on but the monitor won't turn on
I don't know
ive never had that happen
Everything looks plugged in
like how hard did you bang it?
cause it's possible to tear an HDMI port off of whatever board it's connected to if the cable is plugged in
Like I was putting up my feet and it hit down not that hard onto it
It was accidental
I turn it on fan spinning, and stuff
you've been having issues with that monitor
It looks good
have you tried using a second cable?
I could try
what sort of cable is it? HDM, DVI etc
try to turn the monitor on and off
