I somehow managed to fit one in there and to this day I still don’t know how I got it in there without removing the hard drive rack
o damn I should of waited on getting that case
Newer version has better LEDs
too many edges
That's kinda gross ngl
I need to take pictures using my new phone
If I ever go for a new PC
If I ever go for a new PC
Probably just gonna go full out on RGBs if I have the money
dear god I can see my horrible cable management job in my first PC through that old picture
I think I just came
I think I just lost my sight
It’s a holy experience to see such a sight
Yall are lucky with your exquisite expensive cases
and before u ask, yes that's a curtain back there
my pc faces from the giant window of my room
I mean $80 for a case isn't too bad right?
I mean it's no lian li case but it'll get the job done
I have just a random RGB strip in the bottom of mine so I can see inside
Other than that there's very few lights
I really need to clean out the intake vents
But compressed air is hella expensive here
Just compress your own air
I’m surprised how little dust has gotten into my PC honestly
Same tbh
compressed air
Considering how dusty my desk is
there's a cheap thing called a air compressor
I probably should get around to cleaning it out one of these days
I don't have such a thing
I get really triggered when I look at my side panel since it's all glass and little dust specks are everywhere
same
I'm considering selling my old case but like
I literally got it for $20
I don't think anyone will pay for it
I mean there's a reason why I spent 3 hours out of the 4 cable managing
Cable managing is a bitch
it is
that applies to everyone’s set up doesn’t it
I wonder if I should bother getting a new motherboard and processor if it means having to re-cable manage
Dropping hella performance just because Intel has shitty security isn't exactly my cup of tea
Honestly if I get another computer I’m just gonna get it prebuilt

now that I'll drop a big doubt
I don't care about the performance aspect since I just play games but like
I don't like the security flaws
neither do I
I don't want some dudes halfway across the globe knowing how often I go on The Hub
but do you see me going all "I don't use Intel bcz I don't like X thing about them"?
I mean I'm using an Intel rn so
if it works then I'll use it
nothing is perfect
AMD has potato single threaded perf
and depends on RAM speed
while good in server space
definetly not smth I would use for my gaming rig
how many years would you say the GTX 1080 has left before new games start raping it
Probably a long time
So far it’s lasted about 3 years
And I’m guessing it should keep me going until after college?????
Honestly it will probably physically die before games start becoming too much for it
I only have a 1070ti and I doubt I'll ever really have to upgrade
idk I'm set to run maxed out games for a while
Guessing games are kinda reaching their limits for what they can get away with for now
Tho I'm a little iffy since R6 on maxed usually hits like 100+ fps but lately goes between 50 and 80
only 100?
Which is weird since it hits 50 on maps that usually worked perfectly fine
Well I have it capped since my monitor isn't 144hz (yet)
I'm capped at 188
I probably need to get proper monitors at some point
Same
I only spent a bit on my main monitor
I'll just get some 1080p 144hz thing during Black Friday ig
Or unless some generous soul gives it to me
the other 2 are running at 60Hz
I have two of the same monitor
60 FPS that I think are in 2160x1080
Then again my friend's dad has like 6 total
I've burned the PSUs on the 60Hz ones
by trying to overclock them

oof
Ever had a computers power supply explode on you
yeah had the one on the circular saw of my grandgrandfather explode
Oof
this is too accurate of the mindset of people that think they know computers but really don't
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/577540861672554507/581252013866876938/1558630292929.png

hey kid... wanna buy a botnet?
hey kid.....wanna buy some pirated movies
Yeesh.
a weapon to surpass metal gear
Looks like a box for introverted gamers
around 5k USD , with the monitor
What's the difference with quick scan and full scan at windows defender ?
quick scan only checks the most important parts
while a full scan is what the name implies
a full scan of all components
whoops
Uhh
I should disconnect my case's card reader cable since it's very hard to reach now
Damn. I haven't seen a 2Gb card in years.
I haven't seen a floppy disk in years
Planning to build a pc a lot times ago, is casing important?
somewhat?
@subtle hawk what budget
@subtle hawk I have a true relic micro SD
a 64 MB one
and no that's not a typo
are you sure it's not MMC
@subtle hawk not quite, unless you want lots of cooling
going for very cheap and small cases will limit your cooling options
you just need to make sure your motherboard fits in it
also cable management
and ease of installation
yeah
I would say 50-70$ for a case is reasonable
unless you want fancy features
like radiator mounts
RGB
tempered glass
USB C
mine is like $30
but it's hard to install and cable management
I'm adjusting for VAT
20%
ah
VAT here is 7%
the best cases so far that I've worked with are server rack chassis
you can fit so much in such little space
or u can do wall mounted pc
no case needed and excellent cooling

or milk crate

Mineral oil
So how to fix problem with all flashdisk fille being shortcut ?
attrib /s /h /r -s -d
ah yes, the dreaded shortcut virus
yeah, and that's why I still remember that command
don't forget to change the current active drive to your target flash drive before running that command though
I've seen attrib -s -h -r /s /d
hm yeah I might remember the switches wrong
don't feel like booting up my pc to confirm it right now
I keep confusing because most DOS programs use / for option switches
yeah, yours is correct
because it will recursively remove system, hidden and read only flags
/s and /d are options
yeah, and iirc you can pass the target directory as an argument
like H:\ ?
ah yeah
I forgot that I use Japanese locale so all \ are rendered as ¥
I like posix paths more
me too, I'm used to think of \ as an escape symbol, so I get confused whether I need to type it once or twice when outside of coding
like just now

time to ditch chrome
https://9to5google.com/2019/05/29/chrome-ad-blocking-enterprise-manifest-v3/
Chrome's userbase collapses
(contrary to the title, the change is more a problem for privacy extensions than blockers)
we let's jump off chrome
because it's eeeeeevil
spooky
but in all seriousness you're overly dramatic
that change isn't as bad as it might look like
Ye, I mentioned that in the message after
From what I understand the change only prevents blocking connections
ever tried using free crunchyroll
I found a actual use for edge
since they blocked ad block on chrome yet not on edge
and dear god the ads on it are horrible
imagine 5 minute ad breaks every 3 minutes
Then just pay for CR
I would if I could
or throw away your morals and pirate
You're not supporting the release by watching on CR with ads blocked anyway
just say u use pihole cause we know you do
there is no hell greater than CR's ads
can confirm
after all
Nah, I take my pi down too often to bother with pihole
I made those
Tomato advanced has a dns adblock built-in, that's what I was referring to
tried watching the 1st episode of Gridman without ad block
I had zero idea what the fuck happened in the episode do to all of the god damn ads
oh that thing
wel that's just pihole built into a router ROM
since all DNS blockers use the same principle
Close enough to it anyway
set up a non authoritative server and fetch the ad lists
then implement the blocks
Jup
Honestly tho my only contact with pihole itself has been telling people off that leave it open to the internet for some reason (either running on a server with a public ip or port forwarding)
that's their own problem
but yeah
DNS inflation attacks every time
I have my own custom DNS server too but I only use ad lists on the wireless VLAN
but mostly that DNS server is for me to tamper with authoritative records
Only time I've set up a proper DNS server is when I've messed around with AD... And that doesn't really count for me since windows sets everything up for you, practically
nah this was manual
on linux
even had to build a interface to change some rules on the fly
BIND, I presume?
ye BIND
React
Everyone has a favorite js framework, perhaps try a different one?

or
if you're into Typescript
so i just found out my friend met Austin Evans like 2 years ago
Found in #461381136661217283

I'm assuming you mean the memer Linus rather than the ones that swears like a sailor
Yes
So apparently amd is gonna overtake Intel this year
In both the enthusiast and casual market

better invest in AMD stocks before they explode
Rip
you can't peg it entirely on that tho
all the info came out over the 3 day weekend for the US stock market
So i found an ancient scanner at work and its going to become my secondary scanner now, its manual refers to XP as the most recent windows os. Should i be scared or offer a sacrifice for this mystical god?
scanners are typically simple enough
if you plug it in and windows update can't find the drivers on its own tho...
This thing is 22 kg and uses the longboi VGA looking port, its a literal dinosaur
@severe falcon u mean a serial printer port?
it says SCSI
Ah
The long 50 pin thing
Also its light for scanning is GREEN
Isn't that normal tho?
I assume that's the light the scanner uses to read from paper, not the indicator
in which case I'm more used to white than green
I've seen some of both
I mean its normal if your scanner doesnt scan in color
Air compressors > canned air
Canned air sucks
I was meticulously cleaning my keyboard earlier and it’s probably the most expensive thing I’ll clean with canned air
Just use a leaf blower
That actually sounds like a good ides
I just have to hope my blower can start cuz its bulb is torn open
I wouldn't risk using a leaf blower on a PC
compressed air is risky enough
but keyboard? not a bad idea
I discharge everything properly and hold the fans when I can so as not to run the bearings lol
Canned air on the other hand blows
Oh id probably just disconnect the fans and dust filters and only blow them
I used compressed air on my rads and fans all the time
Can’t keep it pressed for more than five seconds until the can cools up and congratulations you have frostbite
(holding the blades ofc)
With compressed air I can just go to town on everything
Also bruh having used my scanner, i wouldnt let a single piece of paper near my comp ever
The amount of static electricity my scanner makes is insane
le mao
The office printer though, will shock you so hard it stings for like a min after
I've determined that mpv is the best solution for playing youtube music
mpv "<playlist-url>" --no-video
so much less memory / CPU utilization than having a youtube tab open
VLC is reee tho
can't render modern subtitles correctly
artifacts up the walls
still for something like music I guess it works
the main thing I use mpv for is watching anime
so those two things are my priorities in a player
I'm using plex for my media consumption
too much resource utilization for me. If I watched on devices with weak decoding hardware frequently tho I'd certainly use it
plex is a godsend for smartTVs
do you guys here know any reason why my monitor can't decode my dtv receiver's audio for some reason
Never used anything but a TV with a dtv receiver before... Any particular reason you're using a monitor?
my tv (which is actually a dorm's tv) has 1280x1024 display
so everything is stretched
I see. Pretty sure you can force an aspect ratio on either the TV or the box that will fix that
nope, my tv only have letterbox for 4:3
for 16:9, it's just full screen stretch
but my receiver does have letterbox
So
any news on that Huwaei lawsuit?
I'm pretty sure Huwaei winning that lawsuit is their only chance of staying afloat
df???
Huawei has virtually zero chance
you don't win a case in a US court as a foreigner unless you have a staggering amount of evidence to prove your innocence
well Huawei has virtually zero chance because its Huawei
not because its a foreign company
I was saying to begin with
But yes Huawei has an even worse chance with the paranoia being riled against them
(which may or may not be founded)
it's not
all that paranoia is just propaganda
this trade "cold" war is getting ridiculous
A lot of the paranoia was around long before this trade war got ugly
Though it was mostly confined to the intelligence and IT communities
I've abandoned the idea of privacy with the dawn of the new internet era
a small sacrifice
if you ask me
I'm still pro-privacy, but I'm more worried about the filter bubble than ad tracking
I mean no privacy is bad
but expecting to be a complete ghost is something that's also ridiculous
I don't think anyone expects that unless they know nothing about how the internet works
We just all have different levels of what inconvenience we will accept for improved privacy
the zuck trials lmao
What's making me laugh the most about the anti-china propeganda tho is all the EGS/Tencent hate
By people who use steam on a daily basis no less
go
Huawei has had a shady history of IP theft, sanction violations, and their products come with real Espionage and security concerns
hell there's even allegations of them working with the fucking Taliban
If the CCP can ban any western corporation at the drop of hat for "being a threat to cultural stability of China"
I don't see what is wrong with the US banning a corporation that's a actual national security concern
the IP theft is part of their history yes, no deying that
but the whole espionage thing isn't something only they do
you can p much point the finger at any major corporation and sure enough they do it
either for corporate reasons
or because of national security
Cisco has been caught with their pants down a few times if you want to use a similar company
^
real NSA hours
or the meme that is facebook
And I heard stories that after Cisco stopped doing it voluntarily, the NSA started intercepting shipments from them and adding the backdoor in transit
I could see the UK doing something similar
Failbook, you meant to say.
Not untrue. Shady bastards.
sometimes they do it with the company in agreement
sometime covertly
Just gotta pick which countries you're willing to trust
End of the day, if someone really wants data on you they will get it
Privacy and security measures are just deterrents
More like, they already pwnt yer hardware, before you even bought it.
Just like locking your house at night doesn't prevent a robber from breaking a window
^
now to go to the topic at hand
Huawei ban
Huawei is focusing on telecommunications gear
their mobile market is not that big compared to that
Yep
they supply the hardware for a lot of countries
for example my country 80% of its telecommunications gear is from Huawei
5G is the main thing that would be affected by this ban tbh
be it relay towers, distribution nodes, trancievers, modems, etc
yeah
Most other technologies have at least other vendors to turn to. 5G doesn't have many alternatives outside Huawei
the race for 5G is very fierce
well for now
quallcom and intel should have their stuff ready soonish
does 5g even matter
what exactly is it anyways
but again they only provide the chips
it's up to manufacturers like netgear and the like to create sollutions
so its like
4g
but better
Yes, more or less
Next generation of cellular networks
Speaking of I'm surprised AT&T is getting away with their deceptive "5GE" marketing smokescreen
That just smells of a lawsuit to me
this entire trade war I would dub is as The 5G War
Sure, but the tech field is probably the most visibly affected
Fabs are cheap in China, and a lot of critical IP comes from the US
Neither one can do great without the other
^ so much this
you can have the blueprint but you'll never be able to make something without factories
you can have the factories but you'll never be able to make something without the blueprint
I would probably phase my stance on the trade war as, there are very valid reasons for it, ranging from Chinese subsidies on shipping, to forced technology transfers, but I completely disagree with how the US is handling it and the stated reasons for the US aka the trade deficit
Sure, neither side has been playing fair for a while. What do you expect from non-alied counties trading?
exactly
I mean
the main reason Chinese companies can basically sell their goods practically anywhere for dirt cheap prices
is because it costs them basically nothing to ship them almost anywhere
since the Chinese government subsidies their shipping costs
it's more like chinese companies make money by having a low profit margin
but have insane quantity of sold products
unlike US where it's the opposite
they can produce at a insane quantity and basically ship that insane quantity of goods anywhere for almost no additional costs
you can buy a huawei phone for cents and replace it just as easy
but an iphone
well
how much does the parts in a iphone even cost to produce and purchase
very little probs
not much
I would say 300-350$ aprox?
with a retail price of over 1000$
Apple's business model is to basically sell everything at a insane mark up
I'd say more like 200-250, but ye
Apple's business model relies on making their customers into zombies that buy what apple says they need
^
which exec was it that said "Customers don't know what they want, so you need to tell them what they want"?
it was some apple suit but I don't remember which one
basically sums up apple's marketing model completely
but yeah main reason why Chinese companies can export these large amount of cheap goods and keep them at a fairly cheap cost is that most Chinese companies have their shipping costs subsidized
I'd say its the cheap labor as much as the subsidies
I mean
the subsidies play a really major part
shipping large amounts of goods tends to be a very expensive process
and if you need to pay barely anything for shipping you're cutting the price you need to charge to make profit by a large margin
sure but that money for the subsidies has to come from somewhere
Thinking about upgrading one of my speedlite flashes. This Canon 580EX is pretty solid but still sort of falls behind every now and then
I should get another 680 for my 1D
oh
no
that's heresy
passive cooling

that's not passive cooling
there's a fan on it
@subtle hawk are you a fan of it?

LOL
Hey it’s not stupid if it works
Odd.
Oh the joys of SFF
i laugh when people say that once something is on the internet, its on there forever. I have found alot things of that DO NOT EXIST on the internet at all WHEN THEY USED TO
it's pretty hard to ensure removal is the point of that adage
GDPR has helped to an extent
i mean im trying to find someone who i KNOW is on facebook so i can send their profile pic to someone else and there is literally only one grainy image of her on google and i cant even find her facebook
tfw i just found it by telling google to exclude a single word and the new top result is the right one and it didnt exist on the first 11 pages of the last search
excluding words tends to be a lot more effective than most people seem to think
yeah but the weird thing is that it was a word that only showed up on 2 results so idk wtf google is high on rn
> I believe the correct answer would be "kaboom"```

incredible
this has to be a joke
I wish it was a joke
I should hop over to /g/, they're probably having a field day with this

Vesa. What the ...
That's a joke right
A $1k stand?
unfortunately it is not
and you know macf##s will buy it
What's a vesa
Looks like Fuze's cluster charge
VESA is a standardized mounting system for monitors
apparently their fancy monitor doesn't come with it by default
or well
it did until they realized they could charge money for it
the year my mom some how went through 3 mac pros
dear god all of that wasted money
so
one had a issue that no one could re create
and my mom only experienced
so my dad just took it
and it randomly died one day after the warranty ended
1st one I can't remember what happened to it
and the 3rd one she still has
o right that 1st one is still at her office while the 3rd one is at her home office
@subtle hawk remotely detonated explosive hockey puck dispenser you mean

ngl, the kz zsn design is pretty sick
btw
does anyone know of Bluetooth earbuds or IEMs that can support 2 devices at once
@subtle hawk I heard Jabra earbud can support multi devices but I can't confirm which model. Not so familiar with jabra earbuds
Maybe jabra elite 65T?
From the datasheet, It say up to 8 device's
yes they can
but it's not that easy to use
like u need the app to change inputs and outputs
as well as their priority
i only tried the Jabra bluetooth handfree in IT fair once , can directly pair with 2 phone without setting.
I need to pair between my macbook and phone
and be able to take phone calls
while also having the connection from the pc
have another laugh

"Man why is my python program taking so long, running a triple nested loop takes 6 seconds but a double nested loop takes like 15"
maybe dont have the double nested loop find the max and min twice on the same line, ya doofus
do some people really use that to code ? that is so awefull to use
no
nano is terrible
if people are using a TUI editor to write code, you can bet it will be vi(/m) or emacs
vim and emacs have steep learning curves, but once you do learn them they're much faster to use than an IDE
nano on the other hand is like writing code in notepad
i like notepad++ for coding smal things for uni. but for this driver we are kinda forced to use nano
why would you be forced to use nano @unkempt oxide
why cant matlab be at least half intelligent and have a feature where you can 'zoom in' and only show 1 of the subplots so you can actually almost see the actual numbers for the data?

anyone know any weird smoothing/blurring algorithms? my heightmap isnt feeling too good
call the game Minecraft and it works
well if i just make the height factor small, it kinda looks like city terrain
Amazon is selling the 1TB Intel 660p M.2 SSD for $100 right now.
Can someone lend me $100
That's so cheap
Well its the smoothing that i need, i was just wondering if anyone found something obscure so i dont have to use Gaussian blur
Just wait till i start applying terrain color maps on top of it and blender starts crying
you could use TIFF format
both Blender and GIMP can handle that with float pixel value
Uhhh

I could buy 13 mac pro stands for that!
Or 2 displays+stand+VESA mount combos
are we going to call grands pro stands now
I thought that was a PLC at first
I could buy 115,000 Pro stands for the cost of a F-35B

anyone know a good android qr code reader that doesnt instantly pull up whatever the code says when it sees it?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tohsoft.qrcode.pro i think this is the one i use
it says QR Scanner Pro in the app, lol, not Code, so I got a bit confused but yeah, that's the one
oh, it's not free, i must have got it when it was free though
honestly it's pretty weird that all android phones don't come with a builtin qr decoder in the camera app
@zinc meadow but does it automatically go to whatever the code says or is it just a smol pop up at the edge of the screen?
it opens a screen where you can either copy the url to clipboard or open in browser
i dunno if i would pay for it though
there's a free version if you take off the .pro in the url but i have no idea how obnoxious the ads are then
oh yeah, if your camera app has Google Lens that also recognizes qr codes
speaking of qr codes, how does it "read" it? i know how the data is formatted into the pixels, but what exactly figures out that what its looking at is a qr code?
probably some fourier transforms and convolutions are involved
this is probably a much simpler explanation http://www.aishack.in/tutorials/scanning-qr-codes-1/
tldr seems to be that the 3 big squares in the corners are relatively easy to find
welp i know what im reading at work while i wait for my scanner to either finish or scream at me
new idea for windows 11: allow me to literally deny all processes from using internet so i can actually play multiplayer games without randomly getting 800 ping
@severe falcon well there's not going to be a win11 so your idea best left as win10 feedback
||not that it will be implemented anyway||
w11
what happened to WiNDoWs TEn iS tHE lAsT wINdOwS
@severe falcon limiting the network connections won't improve the ping
use wires
make sure your ISP connection is not damaged
make sure the modem and router is in good shape and up to date

Hii eveybody,
where can I (on windows 10) see what driver software status my CPU has?
(I am trying to find out if its the newest and if I need to update)
ah oki. Yeah I do. Thanks for the info :3
related to motherboard
closest thing that exists to a 'cpu driver' is microcode, which should automatically be handled by windows too
@subtle hawk you forgot one: make sure your isp is not a greedy monopoly thats legally ripping you off and providing the worst service in the us
the description fits all US providers tho
can't wait til more municipalities start building their own networks
Bruh i havent seen higher than 30 Mbps and our service is 100 Mbps
And we legally cant do anything about it
And this is the same isp that provides 1 Gbps for the businesses in the city, so they def have the capacity to give us actual service
i just upgraded my internet speed cause I was paying non-rate plans (US ISP BS)... and I think the $14 modem I bought off eBay to replace the janky ISP one I was using is dated...
as in, I need a modem that can do the higher speeds i switched to
Jesus what is going on with my internet
somehow I'm still able to use discord without issues, hell even use voice chat and I'm able to download shit from discord just fine
yet I can't even get on my web browsers
o thank god its finally starting to go back to normal
RETURN TO ME 1 GB/S SPEEDS!
or leave me the second you arrive
yeah i have no idea why that happens, i can completely lose internet and no one can hear me on discord, yet i can hear them crystal clear when i should barely be getting BITS per second
I was able to literally talk and listen to everyone crystal clear when this started
now I'm just getting 40 KBPS with a a jump time to time to 100 MBPS
might as well see if it can get one gyazo screenshot through
dear god this is so fucking weird
I can somehow browse discord with speeds like that
I should of probably cropped that, gonna just delete that
might as well see if I can get a second one through

anyone know of some kind of USB switcher? i am gonna have 2 computers at work and i only want one keyboard and mouse
nvm its literally called a usb switch
synergy
my synergy levels are through the roof cuz im only needing 2 comps so i can run dual sanners
the new scanner im getting has a lightning fast 130 pages per min, and has enough replacement parts for 2.4 million pages
(synergy is a program that lets you control two computers from just one of them)
this message is sponsored by synergy
usb switch honestly sounds easier
anyway, who here goes back to personal programs youve made and given it "bad" inputs and accidently discovered it somehow works?
cuz my random noise image maker assumes the input is a power of 2, so i gave it something else and it did weird stuff but still worked
also my work comp: intel i3 dual core at 3.3ghz and 4gb of ram somehow runs my python programs significantly faster than my home comp: amd 6 core 3.5 ghz and 12 gb of ram
python is single threaded
that's why
amd is bad at it until very recent zen architectures
Well yeah but even then the amd should be running it faster though right?
and lets not talk about how long my rpi takes to run it
Like my work comp runs in about 4 seconds, my desktop is about 7, and my rpi is like 19
though in thinking about this, i just realized how i can make the other similar program run faster
can I use that program to benchmark my laptop and pc
My program?
I dont have the updated version with me rn but yeah, i just need to change a few things and you need numpy and pillow
ah that's okay
Ok
sad story
Ryzen 3000 looks good at least
I still might get navi, if only because nvidia hates linux and my current cards are old
I use wayland, Yamato
while nvidia's proprietary drivers are good these days, they lack wayland support
(among other things)
and the open source nvidia drivers are still a joke last I checked
Wayland
you do love to make your life hard don't you
I've only ran into two apps that don't play nice with wayland: Virt-manager (GUI for libvirt, sometimes has cursor issues) and steam
everything else runs better than on xorg from my experience
you do you I guess
I still maintain I don't make things that hard on myself
I know a few friends that user gentoo
that's what I'd say is overcomplicating things
I kust don't see a point in running something not ready for primetime just to make a point
for example I use all 3 major OSes for their strengths
Fucking bgp hurts my head
windows for board support and compatibility
macOS for its good power management as well as being a *NIX family member
linux for its reliability and performance
linux for system administration stuff
you can sysadmin from all 3
if everyone was good at it I wouldn't have a job
considering the last snippet of code i posted, i have negative programming skill
its python
does this give you cancer @subtle hawk?
yes
python is now the most paid prog language
not even close
linux is easier to sysadmin on single machines, windows is easier across a network
python has a lot of jobs yes
(idk whether to bless or curse AD)
but almost none that pay as much as for example C/C++
AD can be bless or curse
that's a lie @subtle hawk and you know it

COBOL pays well IIRC ;)
the US government still uses cobol
you can deploy and maintain a fleet of linux systems with just a few lines of code

ye
everything being a file means you can even do it with rsync lul
y'all system ad and developer here?
TIL that the state got involved and made all companies like the one i work at use the same software/database program and now we dont get to use our custom, super fast browser database
I'm an unemployed graduate atm shou ;p
just dont get tired on applying and u can sure get a job
Thats what i did months ago
and yea
Fuk even here im still alone

and our old, ugly looking database works 10x better than the fancy expensive one we have to use
looking for entry-level information security jobs is surprisingly troublesome
seems everyone wants experienced peeps, and isn't willing to train
COBOL is a ancient language used for security systems from military contracts
as well as bank systems and mainframes
what did you expect @subtle hawk
nobody wants to take a risk
ye
I'm just being salty
i am the risk, because i know more about the new database than the people who taught the class that management took
@severe falcon well the old one was probably made by data engineer while the new one isn't
i mean from what i heard, our old one was made by the outsourced IT guy we have
it has this folder, where you put the pdfs in and it automatically gets added to the proper area of the database, meanwhile i had to write a script to automatically put the new pdfs in the new database
one takes one min of my time, the other takes about 45 mins of my comp having to run the script for 100+ pdfs
and either the program or windows itself eats any special key inputs like [enter] or [tab] so half the time is just the mouse moving to click
also i found a training manual for the new database and they forgot to include anything to help people in my position out
OR they never included any of that stuff in the actual thing
in other news i will very soon see the power of 130 pages per minute, and just how fast things go wrong at those speeds
it finally worked
@subtle hawk oh so you want the program?
i just got done writing a recursive program and i redirected the output to a file and i accidently a 47.3 MB notepad file
that file never opened btw
👀
and now i have to number theory cuz i dont think im getting the right numbers
nvm im just still an idiot
yeah, I want it
"why is the max 542 when i only have 256 initial calls to the recursive function?"
because you have 256^2 calls, you dumbass
ahaha
ok this will make an image file in wherever you put this file, and you need the numpy and pillow libs
well this isnt the recursive one
oh
im still writing that one
pig is using it as a benchmarking program i think, it runs in 3 secs on my work comp, the recursive one runs in 15 secs
this work field will kill me
can only do maintenance during morning (1am-5am )
then u straight duty afterwards
fuk
my laptop
dang
my pc
so yeah as I expected since my laptop has gen 7 i7
i7-7500U to be precise
but the numbers are not that relevant though since it was run in different python version and os
i have discovered rainfall
i also just figured out how to make it show up better and BOI
yeah that sounds awesome
but this is literally just awfully simulated nature and it did THAT
this is that fractal
depending now how many cycles you let it run for you get a more detailed snowflake
yeah, koch's snowflake is how you model fractal mountains
beautiful little thing
also that benchmark related https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/500102597521178644/588405664154386543/chbo26ighw331.jpg
I just now noticed
in latest windows
well the terrain generation i use is basically a non self similar fractal
also i need a little optimization help
cuz the rainfall algorithm is recursive but i can make it run faster if i save the paths that have already been found
but i have no idea how to make that happen
well i know how to do this with pointers in C, is there a way to do "pointers" with python?
no
well this is what the "list" would be like
looks like a binary tree
kindof but there could be up to 8 nodes going to a single one
and there are multiple trees, but i wont know how many
like that fractally blue pic i sent, the brightness of the pixel is directly related to the number of nodes above it in the tree (except the data for the tree doesnt actually exist in my program)
i was thinking of a list of lists of different sizes, but the fact that multiple nodes can [word for reverse branch] to one node means that wouldnt work
then execute this in the program
demo
load benchmark
run
its also 65,536 nodes so help
also my pc's ryzen 7 2700 is run at stock clock
but that's only like 300mhz below my laptop's turbo clock
@subtle hawk u need to press Z to start it?
yes

press z on each menu
literally O(1)
that reminds me of the sigmoid function i discovered for neural networks
there
lol
the CPU didn't even sneeze
and latest dev build is a lot faster
if this benchmark is single threaded
then it explains why I'm destroying the scores
look at this beautiful sigmoid function
because the CPU is OCed to 5.5
oh lol
hm so amd is still behind intel on single thread performance

is single thread core based or hyperthread based?
cuz that might explain why my work comp is working faster, its hyperthreaded and my desktop isnt
all of my tests I run are on HT
I should put a windows server image on my main server
so that I can flex with having to scroll through the cores
i can scroll thru cores if i zoom in like 16x
I can probably get this down to under 4 seconds
if I remove a lot of the PCIe devices
so do either of you know of any kind of algorithm that uses upsidedown trees?
