8.1
And it's quite locked down since some of the admin privileges are still taken away
Again, former work laptop
yeah its probably the drivers
Alright time to format my portable nuke then download the drivers to there
Portable nuke meaning USB with DBAN
No I used it to wipe an old hard drive
just reinstall the entire OS
I plan to do that when I have the time
it would probably be a lot better for it
Kinda busy rn, but maybe in a few weeks
So upgrade to 10, downgrade to 7 or stick with 8.1?
10
your better off with 10 yeah
that thing can run on a toaster
Alright.
aren't they ending support for 7 soon
yis
Next year, yes.
damn I remember using that on my 1st desktop
Used a P4 machine with XP ever since I've been born
Until it suddenly burnt out that is
my parents gave me a shitty little dell for christmas despite the fact we're Jews
I still have the manual for the mobo
It advertised an OC utility in there
Back when every Intel chip was unlocked I suppose
eventually my brother slapped a cheap GPU in there
and it managed to run Fry Cry 3 on max
kinda surprising for that shitty tin can
Nice
eventually moved onto my 2nd PC which was a monster
then I got my current PC back in 2016 which is also a monster
Honestly, looking back maybe I shouldn't have bought a PC in summer last year
Prices were ridiculous back then but I was impatient
bitcoin miners drew the prices so god damn high man
lucky I got my PC just before everyone tried to jump on the band wagon
I bought my parts right at the peak of that miner craze
outside of the GPU
that came in later
wonder how long my desktop is gonna last me
My original system had a Pentium
the Quadro I yeeted out of the workstation worked as a temporary GPU juuuuuuuust fine
Few months later I managed to grab a 2200G along with a mobo as part of a sale
noice
o god a quadro
Somehow 3.9 ghz at 1.4V still isn't stable enough?
That's what it defaulted to when I set manual multiplier in the BIOS
I heard Ryzen Master does the same
AC7 would work for a good while with that OC
so it won't die
But like 2 weeks ago it started crashing mid-game
yeah clock it down
Reinstalled game, still wouldn't work
Yeah I turned it back to original settings and now it works just fine
I need to turn mine down one multiplier
it's running right at the edge
5.3 GHz
it can do 5.4 but only for benchmarks
Damn
damn bruh
Well I won't touch BCLK ever that's for sure
I really don't bother messing around with overclocking
5.3 works reliably for daily use
Guess you're quite lucky with the lottery too
nah
this is one of the worst binned CPUs
I'm getting it so high purely from delid + good hardware
ever have a power supply explode on you
14 year old me trying to build my first computer just to watch it explode into sparks
oof
I had some crappy 850 watt power supply my dad had
that was the day I learned to only buy modular power supplies
hmmmm
replacing the blown caps was a piece of cake doe
ye
isn't that ultra dangerous
I knew what I was doing
so it's all gucci
well it's dangerous af if u dunno what you're doing
I suppose
especially with the bigger supplies
ever watch the retro nerd?
since the charge the caps have can nuke ur heart and nervous system
actually no not the retro nerd
what was the channel I was thinking of
the 8 bit guy
I saw some of his vids
yeah
but only here and there
interesting to watch him restore old computers
I can't be arsed to do that
outside of that one intel 8086 system
used it to learn more about pc signaling and cpu instruction sets
probably
tfw I'm still stuck with non-modular
Houston we have another problem
A phone of mine keeps on turning wifi off and on by itself.
Phone
None of the other phones or devices in my house have the same issue
Like in settings I can actually see it turn off the wifi setting by itself
maybe check power management apps or something
or anything that has permission over wifi turning on or off
Okay what the hell
Wifi seems to be back
But now it would say "Google Play Services has stopped" incessantly and all google-related apps would crash
@subtle hawk pretty much, yes
You sound like my friend that I’m 50% sure is actually SCP 106
Okay I factory reset and somehow the wifi problem persisted.
What the hell is wrong with this ROM?!
@subtle hawk did nimi pull a linbot in game news or did you manually do that?
she's sentient
Oh dear
nothing wrong with running a unshackled AI
well about that
if you see a predator drone circling around your position I won't say I told you
That’s if he sees the predator drone coming
Skynet says "Hi!"

dam son
guys
why do ISN needs to be randomized and why can't it start with 0?
been researching for a while, can't find a definite answer...
do you mean IP?
pretty sure it cant be alot more numbers than just 0 and i think all the reasons are so it doesnt interfere with local router addresses or they are just reserved
hmm, so it's to avoid local interference, i see
but is there a reason why it can start at 0?
well from what im reading 0.0.0.0 is very special and i guess 0 is just reserved
that makes sense
it's just that a source is see is saying "The ISN can be any number from 0 to 4,294,967,295" but my professor is say it can't be 0
so i'm kinda confused, thanks for the help anyways
first off, what does ISN stand for?
cuz IP is only 0-255 for each one so i think we arent on the same page
well it CAN be 0 for the isn, but it has to be generated randomly because of security
i see, so i guess the point that my professor was trying to convey where "it can't be 0" was for security reasons...
if it was 0 each time, someone could hijack the connection in the middle of the packets and then send the wrong info. it also has to be random because they dont want to reuse sequence numbers in case there were collisions between seperate sessions
yeah it was first made for the collisions reason but then security became a big thing
Soon!

what's your build?
And today in "stupid things to do in Arduino": calling noInterrupts() and then wondering why none of your time-based stuff is working
Stupid question but does a graphic card driver (software) a must for a PC?
I have a Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti

1080 GTX
Not bleeding edge any more but she'll last me for a few more years.
just wondering since i am a noob at PC in general
@dusky linden if you're on windows 10 there's a chance windows update already installed it for you
but to be sure do try to install it manually
nah i just installed it already
just checking since i don't want to clog up my PC with un needed stuff

you probably downloaded from this link: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/140565/en-us ?
instead of this: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/146343/en-us
so i take the 430 yeah?
if you intended to get the 430 one, then yeah
oh wait i can use the razer app to automatically dl
razer wtf
im high
i mean nvidia
i do want to make my keyboard look
cool
but im too dumb for it
and holy everything looks so sharp now
It does weird things with their headphones and system sounds
And yes, I know, using Razer headphones
I'm using a Corsair with a ton of macro keys for the MMOs I don't play
i wanted a corsair k75 but the shop only had a k70

not rlly no

Let's see what the grader makes of this...
Have to include invalid requests as well as valid requests, and I might be getting a bit carried away...
Next up... Putting all this in a React app, just in time for the ~new~ version of React to drop and all the old documentation be no longer available!
TIL if my phone is on wifi, but the wifi cannot access the internet, the phone will refuse to use data until i turn wifi off
Odd, you'd think it would hand over without a fuss
It actually shows both the wifi with a ! to indicate is borked and 4G is next to it doing nothing
Also going from the highest limited data plan to the lowest unlimited data plan is a downgrade
Because now i physically cannot use usb tether or mobile hotspots and the internet is literally cut at my house due to the storm this morning
Ow
I'm with you on tethering, moving out on my own (finally) in the next couple years and going to make sure whatever phone plan my fiancee and I get includes mobile hotspot and tethering
Yeah cuz there is an unlimited plan(the most expensive one) that allows you to use tethering and hotspot, but it also has a bandwidth reduction after 20 GB
so WOT decided to be the first thing to tell me my internet returned, but it still claims i have no access and windows troubleshooter is ADAMANT that i MUST login to the special redirect webpage to access the internet. only that webpage doesnt exist. and i already have access. computers are frickin weird
Get windows 10
ill do it later
u still use that ancient launcher?
U assume i even play WOT? It got to uodate only because it was the thing that told me my internet came back

TIL "application/application/json" is a valid content type that can really screw up passing data to a Heroku endpoint
interesting
but I couldn't find that on https://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/media-types.xhtml or RFCs
is "application/application/json" non-standard then?
I blame Heroku
I'm honestly surprised neither Heroku nor Webstorm caught it as an invalid content type
I think it saw "application/json" (which is valid) and said "Yep! That's good!"
Or it's just blindly passing headers without verifying them
more like your app framework @obtuse dawn
since all heroku does is route the requests to your app
All I've really learned from this assignment is how much I dislike React at the moment, truth be told...

what's a good phone to buy?
a phone that works
My friend said its better buy the pixel 2
im looking at both a flagship and a mid range
s9/10 has flagship atm, then pixel 3a at mid
dont you love the imprecision of floating points?
Also i have discovered that my desktop can keep time better than my phone, cuz my phone will get off track in a week if it doesnt update with utc
you can't define hella thicc
But i did define it, as positive infinity
Also anyone else playing Risk of Rain 2?
the extra c is because 2 c's cant contain it
new pixels look like they might be a good bargain if one wants to stay away from having to import from China
they seem reminiscent of the Nexus lineup to me

I need a little help
I got a new phone recently
Its Chrome keeps wiping the address whenever I click on url bar and idk how to make it not
How do I stop it from auto clearing my current url when I clicknon the url bar?
It's a Pixel 3
The browser doing it is Google Chrome, which doesn't do it on my original Pixel
@trim forge
it's a new change
the current URL is right below
it even gives u buttons to change or copy it
@subtle hawk ah thanks, didn't see/realise that
@subtle hawk 🦊
I do, yes
Spec: Core 2 Quad Q8300, 8 GB DDR2, 2x80 GB hard drives, Nvidia GeForce GT 610
Discreet GPU
The power supply is a proprietary form factor, so upgrading it is not really a thing I can do
Speaking of PCs, need to dust out my tower today lol
It’s been like 3-4 months now since my last cleaning(?)
It seems to be just a taller version of an ATX PSU
It's a "midtower"
I... bought a new case cause my old case was nasty
and by "midtower," I mean it's a 35 pound, heavy metal behemoth
Lol I know that feeling Revy
I hate these older Optiplexes so much lol
I got a Phanteks P600s... I underestimated how heavy my shit is
My main PC is an ITX system
At least the Optiplex has some plastic in it
Oh no, you underestimate this shitty Optiplex
It is so fucking heavy
The plastic is nothing, most of the case is just metal
Only the trim is plastic
My case is all steel with one side being tempered glass
I’m curious to see it
the only plastic are the removable filters
My uni loves Optiplex pc’s
Just look up Optiplex 760, that's the model
we have a plethora of these
Both of the 760's side panels are metal
In every single classroom
Surplus optiplex and other office PCs are a great entry into PC gaming
and each of them is like a couple pounds
It's also not one of those "great entry" Optiplexes, sadly @stone wave. Proprietary PSU means that you're limited to 75W TDP graphics cards, and the form factor is microBTX not microATX, so there's very little room to put in a GPU
How heavy?
My case alone is ~30 lbs. and probably 40 with the actual hardware in it.
https://www.amazon.com/Phanteks-Eclipse-Hybrid-Performance-Chassis/dp/B07N1NNJ52/
oof yeah
maybe a slim gtx 1050
It might actually bottleneck a 1050 lol
for a lot of games
Core 2 Quad's not as good as it used to be
I used to have a Dell Vostro with a Q8300 and a GTX 750 Ti
and lol the CPU bottlenecks
It wasn't actually too bad but I wouldn't recommend it over a Sandy or Ivy i5
I haven't weighed this PC, I just know it's heavy
What I normally see are ex-office/campus/hospital units usually 4-8GB RAM, Ivy Bridge i5 with no storage
around $250-300 I think they were
This one, I just picked up for free from uni some years back
I keep it around for fun but it's not a serious machine
It's basically a mutt that was kitbashed together from a few different uni Optiplexes
Two Optiplex 760s and an Optiplex GX620 died to create this one
I used to have a P4 Optiplex running as a VOIP server
that thing was stupid heavy and used more power than it was worth
I think mine was a prescott
Yah, this one's Prescott
64-bit Prescott, actually
I have HT disabled though since Windows ME and older don't really do multiple CPU threads
Windows ME
It runs better on this hardware than 98
tower form factor
Windows ME with good drivers is actually very stable

Can't use 2000 here, a lot of my games don't run on it
oof
u know most dos games still run on windows up to XP
luckily all the retro shit i ever feel like playing has been ported over to run on modern shit
if not there's always retroarch
The irony is that a lot of these games run better on Linux using Wine, than in modern Windows
I do, there's DOSBox for actual DOS games
dosbox
and ScumVM
ewwwwww
for some other ones
If I were after sound quality, I wouldn't have gone with the sound card I did lol
It's just that a lot of this stuff does not run well in emulation or in Wine
That's why I have this old PC
if you just throw it in the emulator and hope it runs
no
just like in wine you need to configure it
Yah, I know
The Pentium 4 machine:
P4 531 3GHz, 512 MB DDR, Radeon 9200, 120 GB SSD
SSD you mean one of those flash cards?
No, an actual Crucial BX300
running at SATA 1 speeds
Yep
lol
at that point a HDD is the same
I'd have just gone for a compact flash card and adapter
considering the bus is the bottleneck
I turned my useless M.2 SSD into a flash drive
The SSD does create a noticeable performance uplift, but a lot of the slowdowns in Windows ME/9x aren't related to storage I/O operations anyway, so in the end
Not much has changed
What are the specs on that system anyway 🦊
it's fun when you roll up with a 256 GB USB and be like "I heard u need to transfer something"
I just bought a 3 pack of Corsair LL120 fans... cause apparently I hate money.
Time to compare PC specs
only 3
because that is always a fun thing to do
I took out the phanteks and the default corsair fans
I was going to say "oldish means i7-6700"
and replaced everything with LLs
only 1 gen and the specs between the 6700k and 7700k are like the same
oh also im running the shit on a z170 board
9900K wants to speak with you @gloomy tinsel
It's not even strictly better since it doesn't have soldered IHS
9900K is lazy and stupidly overcosted, but at least it's double the cores
7700K was just 6700K, minus soldered IHS, plus slightly higher stock clocks
i RMA'd my AIO cause it got recalled
do we go gaming pc or all of them
flagship
Flagship system
in terms of what
otherwise i feel like you gonna link half a dozen systems and 3 servers
The one you use mainly
so I take gaming
ayit
Main PC:
Ryzen 5 1600
ASRock AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac
16 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX
490 GB worth of SSDs
MSI Radeon RX 460
Not a gaming system really
16gb ram
It runs Fedora 29 across an LVM group that spans all the SSDs
because of course, since I run Linux I have to mention it
That is standard practice, yes?
i7-8086K @ 5.3 GHz (8700K @ 5.0 for more stable play)
32 GB Trident Z RGB 3000 MHz
Samsung 970 PRO 500 GB and 850 EVO
2 WD Reds 3 TB in a RAID 0
Asus Strix 1060 6 GB
MSI Gaming X 1080 Ti
Nvidia Founders 2080 Ti
I actually like the 8086k for the throwback name.
nah
it's a gaming rig
what VMs
and the mobo can only hold 2 at once
Is your PSU the North American power grid?
Damn
so I shuffle between them based on what I need
I also wrote a small virus like program to take over GPU handling from NT
lol
and force programs like discord and chrome to use the 2nd GPU for hardware acceleration
bcz there's too little ppl running dual non SLI/Crossfire GPUs for Microsoft to add full GPU switching support
outside of Nvidia Optimus and their own hardware detector
that only works with APUs
You know, I considered downgrading to an R5 2400G for multiple GPU memes in an ITX form factor
but, not worth it
get a dual tower cpu cooler like the noctua d15 and use it in an itx build
those always look funny to me
I don't have room for that in my case
I should upgrade to a lian li case and finish that custom loop for this system
i'd imagine, a dual tower dual fan cooler is like the size of an itx board almost
I'm in the "ITX should mean you have a tiny case" camp and so I have an ITX cube that measures about 1 foot
Too expensive for me
I almost went with an ITX build in a NZXT Manta
(the Manta is the size of a mid tower)
I can't justify a Corsair One, not when I don't do that much GPU intensive stuff
to each their own I guess
Besides I prefer AMD GPUs
gud, gonna need to order one then
lol
Too big for me
fit both my and my gf's system in it
2 gamers 1 computer
yamato crossing the beams!
watch /r/ayyymd and /r/intel get sooooo triggered
I could probably get away with sharing the storage by using the NAS
I carried over my old GTX 750 Ti into my Ryzen PC, so for a time I had a Christmas tree build. Before it died
🤔
and I don't mean all purple
but have the RGB arranged like the stones in the infinity gauntlet
I haven't seen that, no
lemme get that pic from my phone
I don't have RGB, it would distract me
Too much
I can snap my pc and half the universe is gone
From all the electricity you used up?

also got a vertical mount cable thing and some cable combs on the way
fired up a game, now I should see how much it draws
so please pardon the mess
My PC isn't anything much worth taking a picture of
Yamato triggers a local brown out.
It's just one of these cases

If Navi proves good, I might finally upgrade from my RX 460
when you say Navi my mind reads it as NaviKing
🤔
unlimited-power.gif
lol
I don't think I've even broken 150W on my system
650W
Oh, laptops. We can compare those too 🦊
my laptop... is old
laptops be sipping 60W
2014 (I think) x1 carbon
2015 MacBook pro
My laptop is new but doesn't feel very new, if that makes sense
mine isn't even FHD
Elitebook 735 G5
Ryzen 7 Pro 2700U
Runs Ubuntu 18.04, with Anbox for AL
Anbox is cool but also really bonky
my laptop doesn't even run AL over Nox at a reasonable level for me to bother with it
Anbox is nice in that it's not an emulator, it's just an Android runtime that runs on top of Linux
so it's super fast and efficient
I run AL on my phone
I mean it is a phone game
it is!?
I hate how the game goes loading... every single time i tap something
when im on my phone that is
it only shows loading then it waits for the server to send the payload
Could be a lot of factors
- Bad router
- Interference from neighboring routers
- Phone just being bad
- Bad ISP
either way when im at home i just use my pc so its not a big deal
Consumer grade routers are almost universally bad
not rlly
i cheaped out on mine if im honest
so no tomato or any fancy firmware on it
I totally do. I got a used R6300v2 for like $60 and put DD on it, and it is fantastic
The stock firmware is bad bad bad though
I'm talking brand new
without reflashing
if u want smth good u have to pay up
I personally have a monstrosity of a network solution
I do too lol
custom PFsense router with a cisco managed switch
The main router here is a Pepwave Surf SOHO, and the R6300v2 acts as a dumb AP to cover the other half of the house
That Surf cost like $200 I think
All I'm using is a Motorola MB7220 modem, Linksys EA6100 router.
I don't remember, it's been there for a while
Very basic
as for wireless I got some ruckus access points
doe the far distant outdoor one is a cheap router
put in AP mode
There are also a buttload of unmanaged switches for stuff
the ISP is a pain in the ass sometimes
how many ethernet ports you need? cause if you're using multiple switches might as well go to a rank mountable one
bcz their engineers look at the pfsense router and are like "wtf is that we can't manage this"
Not practical to do one big rack mounted switch due to the layout of everything
Would have to drill a lot of holes in walls to make that work
im using Comcast
pay respects
i dont even want to know what happens if i try to setup pfsense
cause they told me my router might cause problems when i went out to buy my own
and im like smh
yeah
they say that to keep you leasing their router
i was actually leasing one from them cause i was a lazy fuck
and their router is shit
well ye
ISP routers are always shit
so do mine
they all reset at 3 AM
the APs atleast
the router and switch are one 24/7 duty
my current setup runs fine 24/7
like when it reset
the connection stays dropped
until i hard reset the modem
i was like this aint worth $10 a month or whatever
sounds very comcast like
Mine runs 24/7, except for the one powerline Ethernet connection that sometimes hiccups. Not much that can be done about that though
Some devices here still require 2.4 GHz
otherwise, would've moved entirely to 5 GHz by now
All the APs and routers here are dual-band, so I just have a separate SSID
And was it a small tower you put in your house?
a tower like a toaster or a tower like a christmas tree
that's a little much isnt it
lots of gud stuff
I'm really not that excited for the first wave of 5G mobile devices
they used one of their upcoming flagships to demo a speed test
i think i might be in the minority but i dont use enough mobile internet to care all that much
I'm sure they'll be super fast, but I also have that suspicion that battery life will be trash at first
🤔
When we speak of concurrency, are we talking about multiple radios? That's still going to be extra power draw
ppl think that 5G is something the consumer will benefit from in the first place
nah nah nah the first ppl that will profit from it is providers and manufacturers
so more users in a given spectrum
concurrency for the infrastructure
not the brick that u call a smartphone in ur pocket
hey now my phone isn't a brick
(yea it is cause its got a big ass otterbox defender case on it)
most techtubers and sites show how great 5G is gonna be for the user
at corporate meeting like these we get to see the other side
as an end user im just like eh
like compared to how much companies had to spend for 4G and LTE upgrades
this will cost pennies
thats nice
watch the big 3 still nickel and dime us here in the US
in the stage 1 the handshake and initial protocol establishment will be done over LTE
as well as voice calls, SMS, etc
then 5G takes over for the actual transfer
in stage 2 it will all rely on 5G
Speaking of SMS, yo Google where's my RCS
Nowhere
Probably right next to my Columbia...
sweeden should start testing of 5G city deployments soon
TL;DR 5G is more juicy if ur a provider than a consumer
Still somewhat good news for me, cause in large emergencies mobile networks tend to get overloaded.
5G won't
And I live in a major city that can be prone to large natural disasters every ~75 years.
since it will be able to hand off to LTE if needed
(San Francisco)
u have florida man
Many people don't have landlines now a days, so the only communication happens over their phones or at a computer. And no wifi or internet when there's a blackout.
So everyone hops on their phones if something big happens.
Then RIP
imagine the network exchange node in SF dies
worse than fire or earthquake
we had our killed by fire
no internet for the whole country for a month
damn
well we had some but it was like back in dialup age
Beep beep boop
till the backup node was set up
landlines in my area went down, and stayed down for 2.5 weeks, fine for me cause i don't use DSL or a landline but the local businesses which rely on the landlines for credit card readers...
yeah
smh
bust out a Square card reader
all readers nowadays use GSM
then again ppl here still prefer cash over card
I saw a few Windows XP machines in a business recently. It hurt my soul
u haven't seen anything till u see a ATM running COBOL code
Don't get me started on COBOL
wow...
Did you hear about the French airport shutdown a few years ago that was caused by a Windows 3.1 bug
also I wanna speak to the genius that thought that re-entering the PIN after each operation is a good idea
not suprised
they should back-grade to a super oldschool IBM setup
the ones that call the vendor when shit needs replacing
lmao
military hardware still runs stuff closer to DOS than to modern stuff
Yah
I mean scientific gear still looks at USB like it's some alien technology
i did work for a travel agency their shit is all text based
I'd imagine NASA is all about that reliability
analog communication is very reliable
Serial ports are rugged and simple to implement
unlike digital witch is very picky with signal strength and integrity
if you had to deal with satellites then it's even more so
RS-232 is digital, not analog. It just sends one bit at a time 🤔
from old analog ones you can gather data even if you're not straight on point with the frequency
I still have a couple of systems with RS-232 serial ports
I don't actually use them myself
I think the Optiplex has one
for the newer ones you have to keep the frequency locked on or else ripp all data

Man running AL on Android Q is actually really nice with the new gestures. I don't have to reach for the top to go back anymore just swipe from the left or right
u running a pixel?
3XL ye
but there are more devices than the pixel series
Look on Google's website if interested
Back up your account before you even think about upgrading though. you have to reinstall AL for it to work on Q
i'll wait till Huawei pushes it to me i guess
I think a few Huawei phones are in the beta program
I know OnePlus is supported
The new back button will be some getting used to. I'm used to swiping from the left for menus and now that's a back gesture.
i still prefer physical buttons tbh.
It's nice but I'm digging the new gestures. The app switching gesture needs some refining as it's difficult to access it from the home screen
Personally, I never bothered to learn all the new features since android 8
I enjoy playing with them and seeing if I can implement it in my usage
One of my favorite features of Android is Android Beam. Every phone has it yet no one knows about it. It's SUPER useful
It's useful when needed I guess
I've only used it once tbh
I don't transfer stuff from my phone much
It's not just for pictures. You can use it for the play store, chrome, any file.
If a friend it trying to show me an app and they're right next to me, the quickest and easiest thing to do is to tap phones and I have the app
oh, i didnt know that
Yea. Super useful. I blew a few people's minds from that
I knew about it because I had a Galaxy S3 and that was an advertised feature on the phone. Then Android implemented it for all phones
All you have to have is NFC, which every phone has now
amazing
i use my nfc for public transport
but i still prefer physical credit cards for purchases for some reason
I use Google pay all the time. It's easier since chip readers suck ass in the US
my phone doesn't
and I have been testing Android Q for kernel compatibility
as well as ease of build
one
just null the drive
a.k.a write all 0s or 1s across the entire drive
or just random garbled data
dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/sdX
@unborn flicker if you're trying to avoid tools that read data without damaging the hdd, just once is fine. If you're really paranoid, you have to physically destroy the platter
(US military policy is to detonate thermite inside any computer with top secret data that's getting retired, but just taking a hammer to the platter and turning it into a bunch of tiny piecesis enough to stop literally anyone)
that being said few people have the tools or skill to recover data that has been overwritten at least once
That reminds me of the instructions to the us bombariers in ww2 planes. If they were crash landing or going to ditch in the ocean, their first task was to empty their service pistol into the bombsight
Except technically its not wiped
No i meant like im pretty sure they can still pull stuff off of it that isnt the random gibberish
Oh then who cares
Uhh so there WAS sensitive stuff on it? Cuz im saying that they can un gibberish it
No like im not saying they can decipher the code, im saying they can literally just find out what was overwritten no matter whats on top of it
Well yeah
My teacher said that forensics got the data off a laptop hard drive that was burned in a car fire
Im pretty sure the platter was actually broken and charred and they still got the info, but i think it was just deleted stuff
Yeah multiple passes is gonna be good
Anyone here heard of an EVC connector? Because until just now, I sure hadn't
And now a GPU has come into my possession, and it has one. It looks infuriatingly like a DVI-I port
I think I came across a Dell of some sort that had one.
It's mad, it looks just like a DVI-I port but it isn't physically compatible
yeah
h
i wish i could use Huawei wihthout sacrificing my soul to the CCP
their probably stolen tech is insane
I have a cheapo Meizu phone rn
Really good processor for the price
But the software side is shite
Very bad memory management
And still stuck at Android 7
Like I literally cannot play AL and then switch to Discord without the former closing on me when I switch back
oh that lmao
I dont like Huawei chipset
i just split screen that
Multi-window doesn't work either
Don't know why it sucks for gaming

One of my classmates got a Mate 20 Pro for his birthday and it looks amazing
lucky bastard
Impressive how they manage to pull off Samsung-style edge display
Buy a P30 pro and you just became a stalker, or maybe a paparazzi
they probably just got the displays from Samsung idk
but like
the low light camera on that thing is insane
Chinese phones are like a copy paste of an original phone (ideas)
Still can't believe how I managed to snatch the Nokia 8.1 for absolutely dirt cheap for my brother last december
yeah but as far as im concerned, the high end Huawei phones have yet to be rivaled in most regards
And by cheap
but why drop twice as much for a mate 20 pro when you can get idk a pixel 3a
I mean 43 bucks.
Huawei P30 vs Samsung S10
New in box, full warranty.
S10 5G model when
apparently that thing is even bigger than the S10+ so that kinda defeats the purpose
Isnt S10 5G?
No there's a specific 5G version
Have they been trolling us this whole time
Gotta start somewhere.
Fold
Seriously I've been wondering for the longest time ever since the notch first came out
i hope Huawei's fold phone flops since they probably got most of their tech from Samsung anyways
Making people to broke in like a second
Why phone makers couldn't just punch a hole in the screen for a camera
And voila
Infinity-O
honestly i'd take an ugly ass notch depending on the type of infinity o
like the S10+ punchout is just unacceptable
Still freaking love the A80's camera.
How many MPs does the rear cameras have?
Once again like all mechanical cameras durability gets called into question.
idk the details of cameras
i honestly couldnt care less about phone cameras
just as long as its not Nintendo 3DS quality
Observe.
what the hell
That's Samsung for ya
but will it pass the bend test
can they invent a new type of screen glass so jerryrigeverything can stop saying "scratches at a level 6 with deeper grooves at a level 7" every single video
That type of screen is sapphire
make it mainstream smh
By now it's essentially a running gag lel
rip
More phone makers need to include preapplied screen protectors
idk what type of screen thing i have but its like a weird film thing
Just the acrylic kind
probably offers no protection whatsoever but it feels really nice
"tempered glass", yes
Mine is a blue light filter tempered glass
nice
Cool
honestly i sometimes wish the S8 wasnt curved since tempered glass is hard to use
throwback to my S5 when the tempered glass was easy since it was a flat screen
and being able to remove battery
Aaah
At least the S10
is not curved
The good ol days
Good ol' days of a removable battery
good old days of chunky bezels and ugly OS
Ha ha
I still remembered when mom first bought her first smartphone
It was truly mindblowing
HTC Wildfire S
damn
Did HTC went bankrupt?
Oh shit
meh another notch phone
Okay but like
no notch lmao
just like in the leaks, triple cameras, motorized hidden front camera

inb4 ray tracing announced
Navi might as well support DXR
anyone got a rough idea of the oneplus 7 price?
$700 US for OP7 Pro @shadow valley
Regular OP7 not available in USA. UK price: 500 GBP (about $650 US)
